Merry Christmas in July, everybody! (And on behalf of the entire "Christmas Podcast Network", Merry Gerry in July!) Can you believe we're officially five months away from Christmas? This year is flying! As it tends to happen to the best of us around the holidays themselves, "Tis the Podcast's" Christmas in July plans were derailed this year! Originally, Anthony was writing an original radio drama with listener Rebecca Boll for the elves, their fellow Christmas podcast hosts, and other friends of the show to perform - but it didn't get finished in time. (Stay tuned for the actual Christmas season later this year!) And then, the elves wanted to put together a live-read of everyone's favorite Christmas film, "Elf", but due to miscommunication and scheduling conflicts, that plan fell through at the last minute. But, wanting to deliver something to all of y'all to mark the summer holiday today, Julia, Thom, and Anthony are joined by Gerry Davila of "Totally Rad Christmas", Todd Killian of "Christmas Clatter", Ron Hogan of "Film Strip Podcast", and Claude Bélanger of "Christmas Conversations" to honor Christmas in July! The result is the most chaotic conversation that has ever occurred in "Tis the Podcast's" four year run! Just some of the topics that come up in today's off-the-walls, hilarious episode (which is naturally filled with lots of trolling) include: True Crime (and Anthony's resulting paranoia) Thom's plans to "Cosby" Ron Claude's official "Tis the Podcast" initiation Christmas ornaments already bought by each of us this year Todd's ascension to the biggest troll of the "Christmas Podcast Network" "American Idol" Musicians - dead and alive - we wish would record (or had recorded) Christmas albums, in addition to all of the random celebrities who have released holiday records in the past (looking at you Rosie and Regis!) Gerry's theory that Donald Trump copied "Time Cop" to win the 2016 presidential election Actors we'd like to see play Santa Claus in a film one day (and actors who are no longer with us we wish had played him in a film before they passed) "The Winter Soldier" and "Zack Snyder's Justice League" All of our individual Top 4 Christmas films Ideas for how the "Christmas Podcast Network" can celebrate Halloween and Christmas later this year Julia's upcoming 39th birthday And all of that barely scratches the service, because there is much, much more discussed - and many quotes from "The Office" dropped - in this hilarious, beautiful mess of an episode that is nothing but banter! So settle in and relax by the pool with your favorite summer beverage, close your eyes, imagine the cold, winter days ahead that will be here before you know it as we fast approach the most wonderful time of the year, and enjoy this episode! And get excited, because there's plenty of fun stuff coming up on the show as well! This upcoming Monday, July 26th, we will be dropping our episode on the 2002 made for TV movie, “It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie”! And on Tuesday, July 27th, the elves will be joined by some very special, frequent and beloved guests (schedules permitting) to record another Double Feature of an episode, which will be dropping in your main feeds on Monday, August 2nd! We'll be discussing the one Christmas episode of HBO's “Curb Your Enthusiasm” (Anthony's favorite TV show of all time!) – Season 3, Episode 9: “Mary, Joseph and Larry” and the one Christmas episode of the TruTV comedy, “I'm Sorry” (One of Anthony's wife's, Sarah's, favorite shows of all time!) - Season 2, Episode 4: “Couple's Massage”! Before that drops in your feeds though, on Thursday, July 29th, you'll get to hear Chapter 26 of “Another Christmas Story” entitled “Hark the Herald Angel Sing”, which Adam Parker Sibun of “Merry Britmas” will be reading to y'all! Enjoy, y'all!
Plus, we really have to listen to Mayor Pete for the next four years.... See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Jacque' And Jonathan get into the last show of July by discussing polling, voting and the value of six-hundred dollars. Jonathan is pleased though, finally with the Wall Street Journal, when nearly three hundred reporters and news staff call out the OPED pages for placing misinformation.
We discuss the good ol' American way and the streaming release of Hamilton.
Shane and Bruce discuss the snobbiest of beer-drinkers, or is craft beer no longer for just "beer snobs."
This year, after an election that will cap four years of unrelenting social, economic and political turmoil and upheaval in the United States, voters will select a president who will hold the nation's highest office for a new term of four years. Given what we've been through as a nation, there should be a swarm of candidates, supported by a swarm of political parties, vying for our attention with their innovative ideas and agendas. Instead, voters are once again faced with a tired rehash of the political handbook: Whittle the field down to two candidates, then give voters a choice -- between the lesser of two evils and the evil of two lessers. Take your pick. It's American democracy. Is this your version?
In part 2 of my extraordinary chat with chef-restaurateur-activist Alvin Cailan, we delved deeply into his socio-political motivations, but we still managed to fit in some laughs. Cailan says he's always been motivated to confound the pessimism he frequently encountered growing up, akin to what former President George W. Bush described as "the soft bigotry of low expectations." "I grew up in the early 1990s in the rebellious era of gangster rap and...the rise of the immigrant voice," Cailan tells me, and that spirit helped him push back against the people in his hometown of Pico Rivera in California, who would tell him his ambitions were fantasies. "Everyone tells you, 'Oh, you can't do that.' 'Don't even think about going to UCLA or USC.' My whole entire life I've always been fighting for,'I can do it, too.'" That can-do attitude basically led to the creation of the popular web series he hosts on First We Feast, The Burger Show. After convincing the producers of the FOX cartoon Bob's Burgers to allow him to run a pop-up that offered burgers featured on the show ("I had seven days, seven chefs, seven pun burgers and we did out of my incubator in Las Angeles."), Cailan became known for his burgers. Or, as he puts it, "I became the burger dude. People started asking me to go on their shows, their podcast, whatever. Finally, [the producer] Justin Bolois...asked me if I can host this show he's working on." And he couldn't pass it up. "I love burgers," Cailan says. "I never really intended to be a TV or personality." The Usual, one of Cailan's restaurants in New York City, has an unusual sandwich board sign in front: "American comfort food cooked by children of immigrants." I ask him what the story is about that. "I want people to know, when they're coming here, they're going to have food cooked by people of color and it's American comfort food, but influenced by our ethnicity and our culture...It's American food in 2019." I also get Cailan to explain to me why you can't order one of his signature sandwiches at The Usual, but to find out what sandwich that is and why he can't give it to you, you're just going to have to listen to find out. -- The full transcript for this episode can be found over here at Serious Eats: https://www.seriouseats.com/2019/07/special-sauce-alvin-cailan-2-2.html

That's a big difference between UK comics and American to ask at weekly. But at the early seventies, marvel started reprinting. It's American out on a weekly basis in the UK. So there's a whole slew of men in their thirties and late forties. Now you kinda grew up reading marble reprint DC didn't do that.... See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Tonight we'll be discussing a topic we've never covered before. "Should Single Mothers Give Their Children Their Father's Last Name?" This is a very controversial topic because most people seem to have their father's last name but most of us have at least a few friends and family members who have their mother's last name. It's American tradition and most cultures traditions to name their children after their father, so when we see children named after their mom, eyebrows tend to get raised. The main question of this discussion is "If the mother has reason to believe that she's going be raising this child alone, should she give the child her last name or follow tradition and still give the child their father's last name? What if the pregnant mother was mentally or physically abused by the father before and during her pregnancy? Should that father be stripped of his privilege to give his child his last name? It doesn't get any more controversial than tonight's topic and nearly every last American citizen can relate to this in some way because 95% of us were named after either our mothers or fathers and to some, this is a big deal. Having your child named after you is the ultimate honor and some men take it to heart if their child isn't named after them and will even go as far as totally distancing themselves in the process. Oh yes, it gets deep! This is why we had to do a show on it. If you have a view or are just interested in this topic, make sure you don't miss out! It Just Got Real!
