Ep 135 - He Lost Everything He Counted On—Then Built Something Bigger w/Paul Ramirez Crockett Carothers You might've seen Paul Ramirez on Western Ag Life podcast telling the stories of people from the West. He has a great story himself of having success in several different areas and then having his voice taken from him and not knowing how he was going to make a living. Bouncing back from that was not easy but he was committed. Paul always recognized from his travels all the great stories these people he was meeting had so he decided to dedicate himself to telling those stories through Western Ag Life. Ken and Anthony welcome Daniel Oyefusi to break down the Browns' crowded quarterback competition, with Oyefusi noting Dillon Gabriel has looked sharp but mostly against second and third stringers, while Shedeur Sanders has been the most consistent at taking care of the ball and pushing it downfield. Pressed on who he'd start in a must-win game right now, Oyefusi picks Shedeur, citing Deshaun Watson's slower processing and hesitation, though he flags a rough situational-drill rep from Shedeur alongside a sharp two-minute-drill touchdown as proof it's still early. The three also touch on the still-gelling offensive line with five new starters and rave about rookie receiver Denzel Boston's strong start to camp.

FAN MAIL--We would love YOUR feedback--Send us a Text MessageThey told Richard Nixon his career was over. Then they told him again. He proved them wrong twice and, for a moment, he looked unstoppable. I walk through Nixon's political exile after 1960 and 1962, then his return to win the presidency in 1968 and dominate in 1972. The point isn't nostalgia or hero worship. It's a hard look at how comebacks really happen when political elites rush to declare a leader finished, but the “lunch bucket” voters still show up, still work, and still vote. Along the way, I draw a modern parallel to Donald Trump's 2024 comeback after years of investigations, prosecutions, civil suits, and impeachment fights, and why many Americans see that era through the lens of “lawfare” and institutional trust. To understand the country that produced Nixon's return, we go straight to a defining source: Theodore H. White's Pulitzer-winning The Making of a President 1960. White helped invent modern campaign journalism, writing scenes that capture Kennedy's discipline, Nixon's exhaustion, and the first truly television-driven presidential race where looking presidential mattered as much as sounding presidential. We also lay out the pivotal election sequence of 1960, 1964, 1968, and 1972, including how Barry Goldwater's loss plants seeds that later power Nixon and Reagan. Finally, we face the hinge point: Watergate. I explain why White's series couldn't survive Nixon's resignation, why he turns to Breach of Faith, and where we go next with a deeper Watergate dive through Geoff Shepard's trilogy and the argument that scandals can become tools used against future presidents. Key Points from the Episode:  • Nixon's two political “deaths” and the mechanics of a real comeback  • why the Trump 2024 return fuels comparisons about elites, voters and “lawfare”  • Theodore White's The Making of a President 1960 and what it changed in political journalism  • the first TV-era presidential campaign and why “looking presidential” becomes decisive  • how 1960, 1964, 1968 and 1972 map the conservative movement's rise from Goldwater to Nixon to Reagan  • “order” as a winning message for an exhausted country  • Watergate as the turning point that breaks White's series and reshapes trust in institutions  • preview of the upcoming Geoff Shepard's Watergate trilogy coverage and the claim that scandal becomes a political weapon  Other goodnessAmerica's pivotal election series:  https://www.teammojoacademy.com/mm342-pivotal-tuesdays-series-the-election-of-1968-part-1/https://www.teammojoacademy.com/mm343-pivotal-tuesdays-series-the-election-of-1968-part-2/We are building and have built out a whole library of book briefs, just one pager's five-minute read over at the Mojo Book Academy on Substack, mojoacademy.substack.com.  Keep fighting the good fight!

Nine bottles, four months, more than one prescriber, and almost nothing gone out of any of them. That is what the prosecution entered into evidence on the opening day of testimony in the Lindsay Clancy trial, and the person they handed it to was the father of the three children who died. If you have been following Lindsay Clancy trial coverage, day one is where the case stopped being about January 24 and started being about a pharmacy counter. Patrick Clancy was the Commonwealth's first witness. Prosecutor Jennifer Sprague read him the counts bottle by bottle and asked whether he knew how many pills were missing from each. He did not. He said he was never keeping track, and that the context behind the numbers mattered. Nobody in the picture was tracking it. Not the husband, and according to two civil lawsuits now sitting in Norfolk Superior Court, not the people writing the prescriptions either. We break down what the state is trying to do with that exhibit, and why the same nine bottles look completely different depending on which lawyer is holding them up. We cover the September wedding conversation about a prescription that had already been filled the day before, the photos and video of a woman who looked fine to every single person who laid eyes on her, and the reason that footage is not the argument the prosecution thinks it is. And we get to the number Patrick Clancy gave investigators, the one that made a grieving father go hire an attorney and sue the people who had been treating his wife. The district attorney's office told this jury the trial is not about the medical system. Then they put the medical system on the stand.END_LINKSJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? The apostles are arrested, freed by an angel during the night, and found the next morning right back in the temple, preaching, which is the last thing their jailers expected. As the authorities scramble, a respected teacher named Gamaliel cools the room with a shrewd warning: if this movement is merely human, it will collapse on its own, but if it is from God, you will not be able to stop it, and you may find yourselves fighting against God. The apostles are flogged and released, and they leave rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer for the name. This chapter puts a hard question to all of us: are we willing and worthy to suffer for the faith?  The Rev. Dr. William Knippa, pastor emeritus in Austin, Texas, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study Acts 5:12-42. The book of Acts picks up where the Gospels leave off. Jesus has risen. He has ascended. And now what? Acts answers that question. Luke tells the story of how the Holy Spirit built the Church from a handful of frightened disciples in Jerusalem into a movement that reached Rome itself. Along the way, you get Pentecost, the first sermons, the first martyrs, the conversion of Paul, the first church councils, shipwrecks, riots, and the persistent, stubborn work of God through Word and Sacrament even when His people didn't have a plan. If you've ever wondered how we got from Easter morning to the Church you sit in today, this is the book. Tune in for this new series on Thy Strong Word with Pastor Phil Booe and guest pastors as we open up the Book of Acts.  Thy Strong Word, hosted by Rev. Dr. Phil Booe, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church of Luverne, MN, reveals the light of our salvation in Christ through study of God's Word, breaking our darkness with His redeeming light. Each weekday, two pastors fix our eyes on Jesus by considering Holy Scripture, verse by verse, in order to be strengthened in the Word and be equipped to faithfully serve in our daily vocations. Submit comments or questions to: thystrongword@kfuo.org.
