Isn't it ironic, that an entire genre of music, was born out of a band 80% comprised of Canadians, as four men named Danko, Hudson, Manuel, and Robertson, and their Arkansas born drummer Levon Helm, unwittingly gave rise to so-called “Americana”.And they, like our guest this time, had in their songs, themes like change, hope, heartbreak, and belonging. She's also fan of Townes Van Zant. Hearing him, she was hooked. From Port Hope, Ontario, Nickola Magnolia comes with her guitar, and she's ready to share music nobody has ever heard before, alongside some from her Jimmy Bowskill produced debut album of 2022 “Broken Lonesome”. Plus we'll spin her fall 2023 single “Hit and Run”, and dig into her unique story. Her presence is notable. Her wit and candor the very same. This is a great session with which you can get to know this wonderful talent, singer/songwriter/performer who is also a tattoo artist! Not shockingly, I've already booked a session to have her art on my body. Now let's get some Nickola Magnolia in our eardrums! One smoke-show of a record with the most great songs back-to-back. For “Hands Held High”, Jake Chisholm has assembled a monster four-piece, featuring producer/bassist Darcy Yates, multi-instrumentalist Jimmy Bowskill and Ian Mckeown on drums. Whether you know Jake from his playing at the legendary Skyline on Queen West, or from his earlier days killing it at The Cameron House, or even if he's just catching your attention for the first time, this record is landmark stuff, and we give you 5 cuts from the studio and Jake performs two live at Wild Woods Blue.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Some insight on what it's really like for a touring band climbing their way to the toppermost of the poppermost. The new album, OUTTA SIGHT is out June 3. Steve Marriner is our special guest this week on Mulligan Stew. We know Steve from the award-winning Monkey Junk and the very popular Manx Marriner Mainline. He's a singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer. Hope Dies Last is his second solo album. His first was in 2006. (He's been just a tad busy) HDL has 15 musicians in the credits..so it's a true group effort. And signals great things ahead in his solo career. If you remember our Greg Keelor solo album Episode #152 it was Greg who raved about working with guitarist Jimmy Bowskill. (Sheepdogs. Jim Cuddy) Steve Marriner worked tirelessly with Jimmy to get these songs sounding just right. Have a listen and let the stories flow.

Greg Keelor. Co-Founder, co-Singer, co-Writer of one of Canada’s premier bands Blue Rodeo. Share the Love is his 6th solo album. When asked did he know how many he has done and what the names are the answer was No. And that was the first question. I had another 45 minutes of questions. Now what? Greg spun his first story about he and Jimmy Bowskill sitting around, in a hash haze throwing lines and guitar licks back and forth and all of a sudden there’s an album taking shape. They recorded it and went to a small community center at a lake to play the songs again while video cameras shot the songs for promo. THAT recording was so good, they scrapped the studio record and went with the community hall by the lake session. That was Greg’s answer to the second question…and we were off and running. We cover a lot of ground with Greg Keelor..ups and downs. Losses both human and personal. The album is very good. His best work yet. We both agreed that the feel of the record was much like the late 60’s in LA with Buffalo Springfield and The Byrds. He’s a good man that Greg Keelor.

The Sheepdogs are one of Canada's most loved bands - formed in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 2006. Lead singer and guitarist Ewan Currie, bass guitarist Ryan Gullen, drummer Sam Corbett, guitarist Jimmy Bowskill, and Shamus Currie, brother of lead singer Ewan Currie, playing trombone, keyboards, and tambourine - AND occasionaly but sadl not on this round of seeing them live: Rusty Matyas, Rusty, you were missed man and I can't wait to have you on the show! Some of you may recall The Sheepdogs became the first unsigned band to make the cover of ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE back in 2011 and have since blown the hells up all over North America. Cause, hot damn - they good. I sat down after their set w/ Ryan Gullen to talk backstage parties, working for a living and dressing for the part. Ryan - I loved every minute man and thanks for being the host with the most style at an after-after party :) www.thesheepdogs.com www.patreon.com/posts/support-me-at-10-5388919 Tell Me Stories available on Itunes, GooglePlay, PlayerFM and anywhere else good pods are found. This edition of The Roadhouse stands firmly on the line between blues and rock. While it may not exactly fit with a traditional view of blues, I don't have any doubt that you'll dear blues in every track. The Shouting Matches, Anders Osborne, Moreland & Arbuckle, Gov't Mule, and Jimmy Bowskill put the edge on this hour. They make for another hour of the finest -- blues rock -- you've never heard - the 449th Roadhouse.
The Roadhouse digs deep into the self-released blues of today's young artists. Paxton Norris., Levve Town, Microwave Dave & The Nukes, Mary Bridget Davies Group, and Jimmy Bowskill are among the artists with a new view of blues, a new view of music technology, or both. They help make 363rd Roadhouse another satisfying hour of the finest blues you've never heard.
The broad range of blues in this edition includes The Johnny Max Band, Shemekia Copeland, Jimmy Bowskill, T-Model Ford, and Roomful of Blues light up the stage in the 308th Roadhouse. The beauty of blues is that you don't have to like all of it, but there's enough of some of it to keep people listening for a lifetime. And it makes the 308th Roadhouse another hour of the finest blues you've never heard.
This week's edition of The Roadhouse holds true to its tagline with some older tracks and new, some straight-up blues and some blends, some old familiar names and some you've not heard. Monkeyjunk, Lucky Peterson, Jimmy Bowskill, Son Seals, and Freddie King roll out another hour of the finest blues you've never heard - the 292nd Roadhouse.
