It appears we are close to learning who will be appointed as a new member of the FOMC. This is after the Federal Reserve held interest rates steady at their latest meeting in July. Most surveyed economists now believe a cut will come in September, after a dismal July jobs report. However, if the July jobs number is more of a data blip, of which this year has had many, then equity investors could be looking at a Fed cut on top of the tax cuts in the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act”, which could build potential wind in the sails of valuation expansion. Joining today's episode with her thesis for what an interest rate cut in the months to come might mean for stocks, is Fidelity Head of Quantitative Market Strategy, Denise Chisholm. Sal takes aim at a deeply-rooted cultural issue within the Yankees organization, arguing that a lack of accountability from the top down has led to an atmosphere of complacency. He uses Jazz Chisholm's base-running mistake—getting doubled off on a routine pop-up—as a prime example of a player not being held responsible for his errors. Sal argues that when managers like Aaron Boone constantly praise players regardless of performance, it creates a sense of comfort that prevents them from truly pushing themselves and taking ownership of their mistakes. This "coddling," as Sal calls it, is a stark contrast to organizations with a stricter accountability model, and he believes it's the core reason the Yankees consistently fall short of their championship goals.

As markets adjust to higher valuations and shifting economic signals, one thing is clear - capital expenditures are becoming a more meaningful part of the market narrative. With policy tailwinds like The One Big Beautiful Bill fuelling what some are calling a “cap-ex comeback,” investors are watching closely to see where the next opportunities will emerge - from tech and financials to energy and consumer discretionary. While many are focused on what the Fed might do next, Fidelity's Denise Chisholm, Director of Quantitative Market Strategy, is looking beyond the headlines - and helping us understand what's driving capital spending, how inflation is playing out, and which sectors are best positioned in today's environment. Send us a textIn previous episodes, we've chatted with some young runners who have taken on ultramarathons like the Leadville Trail 100, something that was unheard of in the ancient days when I began in the sport. While it's become less rare to see this, it's now been taken up a notch. Meet the Chisholm family of Salem, NH. Brothers Ben, Brody, Elliott, and Asher all play hockey, with the three eldest at one time playing on the same line together on their high school team. Led by their parents, the boys started off climbing in New Hampshire's White Mountains, eventually summitting all of its 48 4000-foot peaks, which is no joke in difficulty. This evolved to the family next through-hiking the entire Appalachian Trail, then the Pacific Crest Trail, and the Continental Divide Trail, each of which are thousands of miles long and take months to complete, and definitely at times challenged the limits of family togetherness. While later hiking the Arizona Trail, they learned about this thing called ultramarathoning and on a whim entered the Elden Crest 38-miler, in which second-oldest son Brody led the family to the finish line in fifth-place overall. So the next logical step of course was to return to Arizona to run the 2024 Cocodona 250. Of course. Since races like this include large swaths of hiking, the family leaned heavily on their strong through-hiking skills, a theory that bore fruit. Brody, 17 at the time, boldly had his sights on setting a course record despite having had no prior ultra experience longer than 38 miles, but has 4:30 mile speed on the track, so he could add that running ability to the mix. He learned a lot of ultramarathoning lessons, especially regarding fueling, but still astoundingly finished 12th in 75:42:42, a pace of 18:11 per mile for more than 250 miles. Meanwhile, 18-year-old brother Ben finished 34th in 87:01:50 despite battling lack of sleep and hallucinations, and mom Jennie finished as well in 103:58:03 while overcoming tibial stress fractures. Round two for the family was this year as 16-year-old Elliott attempted to usurp Brody's record as the youngest-ever Cocodona finisher, but a sickness felled his chance, and Brody also DNF'd. However, Jennie chopped more than 14 hours off of her previous time and placed as the 7th female finisher. So Elliott took on a new challenge the day before we recorded this and ran the Back Cove Backyard Ultra in Portland, ME, where he impressively ran 121 miles, running another 4.16-mile loop at the start of every hour for 29 hours, the third-most in the last-man-standing event. With Jennie and the three oldest boys of this super nice family all crammed onto a couch together for this really fun chat, we cover how they logistically pull all of this off with schoolwork and teen life in general, as well as dealing with those who have this idea that teenage boys shouldn't take on epic challenges like they have. I think anyone who has doubts will walk away with other ideas after listening to them. The familyInstagram @thefieldtrip_5Jennie ChisholmInstagram @_jenniechisholmBen ChisholmInstagram @benchisholm_7Brody ChisholmInstagram @brody.chisholmElliott ChisholmInstagram @elliott.chisholmBill Stahlsilly_billy@msn.comFacebook Bill StahlInstagram and Threads @stahlor and @we_are_superman_podcastYouTube We Are Superman PodcastSubscribe to the We Are Superman Newsletter!https://mailchi.mp/dab62cfc01f8/newsletter-signupSubscribe to our Substack for my archive of articles of coaching tips developed from my more than three decades of experience, wild and funny stories from my long coaching career, the wit and wisdom of David, and highlights of some of the best WASP episodes from the past that I f

As market narratives shift almost daily for traders and investors, a hard look at the underpinnings of what continues to power a lift is worthwhile. Today's guest says we are in the throes of the second scare of the tariff worries for 2025. However, that may be only a scare, or a blip, even? Corporate tax cuts from the so-called one big beautiful bill may provide sustainable tailwinds markets have been missing during the messy tariff policy rollout. Hour 1 - Boomer & Gio continue their vacation so today it's Jerry and Chris McMonigle. We started with C-Mac's favorite team, the Yankees, who are having no problem with the Mariners. Jazz Chisholm hit 2 home runs last night and Jerry said he's fun to watch. Yankees pitcher Cam Schlittler made his debut last night and his parents were there to see it. C-Lo is here for his first update of the day and has a few WFAN hosts who can't say ‘Schlittler'. We heard one of Jazz's homers. The Mariners hit four in their loss. Jazz talked about Schlittler having red cheeks last night. The Yankees DFA'd DJ LeMahieu. A Vikings player was scammed out of $240K, making deposits into accounts. In the final segment of the hour, we talked to C-Mac about the terrible callers overnight. Hour 2 - We started the hour with a few calls about callers to the station. We heard from a few young guys that listen and call. We also talked about baseball with the Mets and Yankees and how both teams seem to be back on track. C-Lo returns for an update and starts with the sounds of Jazz Chisholm hitting one of two home runs on the night. Cam Schlittler had a nice MLB debut on the mound. We talked about a scenario where your son becomes the pitcher on a team you hate, like the Red Sox. Do you wear Red Sox gear? In the final segment of the hour, we took calls on whether you would root for your kid on an enemy team. Hour 3 - We started the hour by closing out the calls on whether you would root for your son if he was playing against your team. We talked about sports talk in NY, where there are two teams and fans think you are covering the other team too much. We talked about the Brooklyn Dodgers moving to L.A. and who the fans decided to root for. C-Lo returns for an update and starts with the debut of Yankees pitcher Cam Schlittler last night. Jazz Chisholm hit 2 home runs last night. The Yanks DFA'd DJ LeMahieu. C-Lo has clips of odd sounds and they are all C-Mac. Danielle got a call at 3:30am from a strip club. In the final segment of the hour, C-Mac tells the story of saving a woman's life when he was on vacation in Germany. Hour 4 - The Yankees have made significant changes, moving Jazz Chisholm to second base and designating DJ LeMahieu for assignment, which was described as a "cleansing period." Despite a recent win over the Mariners featuring two homers from Chisholm, Brian Cashman emphasized the ongoing need for bullpen arms and a third baseman, while still expecting big things from Anthony Volpe. Meanwhile, the Mets are preparing for a doubleheader against the Orioles. Other notable discussions included a furious Joe Burrow clip from 'Quarterback,' Kirk Cousins' 'Great Clips' haircuts, Deion Sanders' silence on his health, Mike Brown's focus on players' dating lives, and "The Moment of The Day" calling for a WFAN text line. The show concluded with a discussion about C-Mac joining WFAN after meeting Monzo and Marc Malusis in Las Vegas.

LIVE from beautiful (and suffocating) Las Vegas! This episode of the Minnesotan Pod features Vegas Jr. Golden Knights Assistant Hockey Director and youth coach Rob Pallin. The native of Chisholm, Minnesota was kind enough to swing by YHH's hotel late Wednesday night to discuss growing up on the Iron Range during the 1960s and 1970s, playing with NHL Hall of Famer Brett Hull at the University of Minnesota Duluth, his European playing and coaching career that took him from Germany, to Hungary and then Austria, and then back to the Las Vegas area. Rob's story has twists, turns, and plenty of hockey memories. Hope you enjoy.
BT and Sal dive into the Yankees' recent decision to move Jazz Chisholm Jr. to his natural position at second base, exploring the ripple effects on the team's infield, particularly at third base and for veteran DJ LeMahieu. They discuss the organizational dynamics behind this long-awaited move, questioning why it took so long and who ultimately made the call. The hosts also touch on the concept of an "experimental phase" in modern baseball, suggesting that even high-payroll teams like the Yankees now use parts of the regular season to test player alignments and strategies, with this shift for Chisholm being a prime example.
Is the price of oil adding to a stagflationary impulse that rests in markets right now? How are price swings of WTI and Brent crude leaching through to influence the economy's medium-term direction? If oil prices zigzag higher on geopolitical news, can markets beat back the oil-induced recessions of yesteryear and have us land perhaps in stagflation-land? Which sectors of the equity market can power through, regardless? Jones and Keefe kicked off the show discussing the Boston Celtics' return on the Kristaps Porzingis trade. In return the C's will receive forward Georges Niang and a second-round draft pick from the Atlanta Hawks. Finally, the guys talked about Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his future in the NFL.
Many things were playing out in the economy when the tariff shocks hit. One of them, importantly, was personal income growth. Consumers were in growth mode, and, as our next guest likes to remind investors, starting points matter. If corporate earnings were reaping the benefits of a ‘fit' consumer, on balance, how much more could their bottom lines absorb, than if personal growth had been absent in the US economy? Joining the show today to explore this element of the corporate earnings story - and its connections to potential multiples growth - is Head of Quantitative Strategy at Fidelity, Denise Chisholm. First issues are hard. Last issues are hard. Second-to-last issues are hard. Maybe...all issues are hard? Book Club is back in session with creators Rick Quinn and Dave Chisholm, discussing Spectrum #5, the penultimate issue in their brilliant Mad Cave Studios series. With the end just around the corner (the final issue arrives in shops on May 21st, as does our final Book Club episode with Quinn and Chisholm, so mark your calendars), Spectrum #5 must elevate and explode a bunch of grandiose ideas about art that the comic has so far been teasing or suggesting. Spectrum #5 is a BIG comic following two central characters while traversing multiple timelines and encountering alternate-dimension stand-ins for iconic cultural figures and places from our world. Quinn and Chisholm might not say it, but we will: PBGBs is CBGBs, and Gloria Bell is Patti Smith. Half the pleasure of reading Spectrum is tracking their sci-fi alternatives of real-world legends, which recalls similar joys had when devouring Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. However, as Spectrum #5 ramps toward its fiery conclusion next month, the fervor with which Quinn and Chisholm explore vital artistry is the ultimate appeal. Why do humans sing? Why do they paint? Why do they tell stories to one another? During a moment when artistic expression is recklessly dismissed or downright eradicated, Spectrum #5 shows its readers how they're constantly engaged with creative expression and why only the most vile and pathetic people are detached from it. Last month's Spectrum Book Club was extremely process-heavy in its conversation. Now, for the penultimate issue, it's time to dig into the thematic weeds, have a serious chat about human connection, and worry not about labels of pretension. We're all friends here. Spectrum 1 - 5 are currently available from Mad Cave Studios, and the final issue will arrive in shops on April 21st. Make sure you're following Dave Chisholm on his Website, TikTok, Instagram, and Bluesky. And follow Rick Quinn on his Website, Bluesky, and Instagram. There are not many opportunities like this one. Every month, we devour the latest Spectrum comic and then jump on the phone with creators Rick Quinn and Dave Chisholm. It's an intimate, super nerdy book club, and you're all invited. But you gotta bring your own wine. With issue four, we're more than halfway through the series, but we're just getting started regarding a thorough excavation into their creative process. Spectrum #4 is the most dense chapter in the series so far. Multiple threads weave the narrative, and several of those introduce new concepts and characters. We travel to "The Twilight of the Gods," witnessing a massive mythology dump while our heroes Melody and Ada traverse time through song. We witness the beginning of everything and must prepare for its end. This week's podcast starts with Rick Quinn and Dave Chisholm taking ownership of the Book Club, wrestling the reins from us, and guiding us to the discussion topics they want to tackle. We discuss how the series has swerved unexpectedly, resulting in radical issues like Spectrum #4. We got tangents and anecdotes, wild theories, and sidequests. But before all that, we must discuss our recent WonderCon excursion, offering a little recap on dollar bins and panels. The Anaheim convention rests in the shadow of Disneyland, offering a unique vibe from other comic cons. It was Lisa's first time. Will she return? Spectrum 1 - 4 are currently available from Mad Cave Studios, and the fifth issue will arrive in shops on April 23rd. Make sure you're following Dave Chisholm on his Website, TikTok, Instagram, and Bluesky. And follow Rick Quinn on his Website, Bluesky, and Instagram. You wake in a hospital bed.
