The Sheepdogs built their name on hard work and determination. Ryan Gullen's commitment to his craft and willingness to push the boundaries of what is possible with the bass guitar has helped the band evolve their sound over the years and stay fresh and exciting. We chat with him in this episode.
For almost twenty years now, The Sheepdogs, from Saskatchewan, Canada, have made some of the best classic, seventies fried rock ‘n' roll known to man, woman or beast – and their new album, their seventh, released in June and entitled Outta Sight, is as good a collection of songs as they've released to date. This is another interview I conducted a few months back, when the weather was ridiculous – though I did remember to keep the windows to Spoook Towers closed this time. Who better to discuss the shifting shape of the rock music industry with than singer and guitarist Ewan Currie and bassist Ryan Gullen? And, of course, as is traditional on this podcast whenever Canadian acts come on the show, we talk a little bit about moose too. Some day I will stop doing that - but today friends, is not that day!Join the Spoook Substack!

PODCAST EXCLUSIVE - The Sheepdogs - Having the chance to sit down with Ewan Currie and Ryan Gullen of The Sheepdogs was a total blast. They've been going hard for over a decade. Now, they're one of the biggest touring bands in the country and it's well deserved. They rule live. One of the best true rock n roll bands out there. I was pumped to catch up with them and talk about what it's been like not to tour (for the first time in the band's existence), tapping into that live energy when making their latest studio record and the importance emulating the greatness and efficiency of Michael Jordan. Check out their latest record “No Simple Thing” and for everything else Sheepdogs go to www.thesheepdogs.com.

The Sheepdogs’ sound is a familiar one, and this is a band that wears their influence on their sleeves, and don’t care. I’ve been following the career of The Sheepdogs for quite some time and we’ve shared many laughs along the way. Thats why I was excited to get bassist Ryan Gullen on phone to talk about their 6th studio album, and everything going on with them. Definitely blue collar types that love the music they write and play, and that genuine approach comes through in everything they do. If you’ve never heard of The Sheepdogs, you can check them out on all the music streaming services or at their website thesheepdogs.com. You’ll want to check out their touring schedule and be sure to see them when they hit your town. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The Sheepdogs are one of Canada's most loved bands - formed in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 2006. Lead singer and guitarist Ewan Currie, bass guitarist Ryan Gullen, drummer Sam Corbett, guitarist Jimmy Bowskill, and Shamus Currie, brother of lead singer Ewan Currie, playing trombone, keyboards, and tambourine - AND occasionaly but sadl not on this round of seeing them live: Rusty Matyas, Rusty, you were missed man and I can't wait to have you on the show! Some of you may recall The Sheepdogs became the first unsigned band to make the cover of ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE back in 2011 and have since blown the hells up all over North America. Cause, hot damn - they good. I sat down after their set w/ Ryan Gullen to talk backstage parties, working for a living and dressing for the part. Ryan - I loved every minute man and thanks for being the host with the most style at an after-after party :) www.thesheepdogs.com www.patreon.com/posts/support-me-at-10-5388919 Tell Me Stories available on Itunes, GooglePlay, PlayerFM and anywhere else good pods are found.
