Welcome to The B-Side! Here we talk about movie stars! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between. Today we discuss Clint Eastwood, the director and the movie star. Our B-Sides are Breezy, White Hunter Black Heart, Blood Work, Flags of Our Fathers, and The Mule. Our guest is the impeccable Mitchell Beaupre, Managing Editor at Letterboxd. We talk about Clint's Casper cameo and how that was probably the first thing all three of us saw him in a movie, John Wayne's disdain for Eastwood's on-screen persona, his uncanny direction of actors as well as his smart casting (ahem, The 15:17 to Paris notwithstanding) of actors. Often, if Clint is in one of his own movies, he will surround himself with talent as good (if not better) than himself. There's significant appreciation for his underseen Honkytonk Man, there's honest discussion of his ambitious performance in White Hunter Black Heart (playing a version of filmmaker John Huston), and we three reappraise his Flags of Our Fathers nearly twenty years after its underwhelming release. It's way better than you remember! Additional topics include Spielberg's protégés (from Phil Joanou to Kevin Reynolds to Brad Silberling), Breezy's beautiful rendering of the post-60s counterculture depression, and Blood Work's silly (and wonderful) twist ending.

In this conversation, Dan and Jason discuss various aspects of hunting, including the financial implications of land ownership, the importance of public lands, and the preparation needed for the hunting season. They share personal experiences and insights on the challenges of hunting with family, the reality of hunting gear, and strategies for success in the field. The discussion emphasizes the balance between passion for hunting and practical considerations, ultimately highlighting the joy and fulfillment that comes from the hunting lifestyle. Takeaways: The podcast covers various aspects of deer hunting, including behavior and biology. Blending families can impact hunting culture and traditions. Physical labor in outdoor activities can be rewarding yet challenging. Trail cameras are essential for monitoring deer movement. Mule deer hunting faces challenges due to environmental factors. Balancing family commitments with hunting trips is crucial. State hunting opportunities should be maximized before venturing out of state. Preference points are important for planning future hunts. Outfitting can provide better opportunities for specific hunting experiences. Personal preferences dictate whether to hunt public land or pay for outfitted experiences. The cost of hunting can be a significant factor in family dynamics. Owning land for hunting can provide opportunities for future generations. Public lands are crucial for hunters who cannot afford private land. Preparation for the hunting season involves honing equipment and strategies. The desire for new gear often conflicts with financial realities. Hunting is as much about the experience as it is about the equipment. Mapping and strategizing can enhance hunting success. Collaboration with family or friends can complicate land ownership. The hunting community values public lands and advocates for their preservation. Personal experiences shape the way hunters approach their craft. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

How does the legacy of racial covenants impact housing equity and even fire recovery? Host Curtis Chang welcomes Jasmin Shupper, visionary founder and CEO of Greenline Housing Foundation, to explore how racial injustice magnifies the impact of natural disasters. Together, they dive into the devastating effects of the LA fires—particularly the Eaton Fire in Altadena—where Black homeowners have faced disproportionate losses due to historical practices like redlining and racially restrictive covenants. Jasmin shares how her mission to close the racial wealth gap and prevent mass displacement offers a path toward real estate justice, resilience, and renewal. Sara Domek is Wyoming's Migration Program Director for The Nature Conservancy. Sara grew up in the small town of Kemmerer and later moved to Pinedale, giving her a rare, firsthand perspective on Wyoming's working landscapes—both from a natural resources and a conservation standpoint. Her upbringing, paired with years of experience working in nonprofits, agencies, and boots-on-the-ground conservation, makes her uniquely suited to lead TNC's efforts to protect Wyoming's world-renowned wildlife migrations. If you've spent any time driving through Wyoming, you've probably cruised past some of the most important migration corridors in North America—maybe without even realizing it. Sara and her team are working to keep those landscapes permeable, helping mule deer, pronghorn, elk, and other species continue the seasonal journeys they've been making for thousands of years. We talk about the science behind migration, how seemingly small barriers like fences can create big challenges for wildlife, and how collaborative conservation—between landowners, agencies, and nonprofits—can create real, lasting wins. Sara also shares some fascinating details about Wyoming's longest mule deer migration, the importance of building trust with local communities, why cheatgrass is a bigger villain than it looks, and how carefully designed wildlife crossings can benefit both animals and people. We also get into her favorite books, why she's hopeful about the future, and, once again, the simple but powerful idea that success in conservation often comes down to strong relationships. This is a thoughtful and inspiring conversation with someone who truly embodies the spirit of collaborative, community-driven conservation. Today at the Down Home Podcast, we ask: What if the promise was kept? What if, after emancipation, Black Americans truly received 40 acres and a mule? What if the Black Loyalists — those who fought for freedom in exchange for loyalty — were actually granted the 100 acres they were promised? How would land, ownership, and economic freedom have transformed generations? What would our present look like if those reparations had been real? A recap of Tommy's Buffalo Bills draft predictions
Leo "Tata" Sharp was an elderly World War II veteran and award-winning horticulturist who led a quiet life in Michigan—until it was revealed that he was one of the most prolific drug mules for Mexico's Sinaloa Cartel. In his late 80s, Sharp transported hundreds of kilograms of cocaine across the country in his Lincoln Town Car, using his age and unassuming appearance to avoid suspicion. He was recruited around 2009 by cartel associates and quickly proved useful, making regular cross-country drug runs between Arizona and Michigan, sometimes delivering up to 200 kilograms of cocaine at a time. His double life came crashing down in 2011 when he was pulled over in Michigan with over 100 kilograms of cocaine in his vehicle. During the stop, he tried to use his age as a shield, claiming he was lost and confused. Eventually, Sharp pleaded guilty in 2014 and was sentenced to three years in federal prison, a relatively light sentence given the scale of his crimes—largely due to his age, frail health, and status as a decorated veteran. The bizarre case captured national attention and inspired the 2018 Clint Eastwood film The Mule, loosely based on Sharp's story. He died in 2016, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most unlikely figures ever caught up in the cartel drug trade.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.

He died in 2016, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most unlikely figures ever caught up in the cartel drug trade.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-moscow-murders-and-more--5852883/support.

As odd as it sounds, there was a time in American Food before oatmeal. And while that's wild on it's own, even more impossible to imagine is how much of agriculture used to be dedicated simply to growing food to feed the animals that allowed you to run the farm. Having solar panels and biodigesters to create power on the farm now is pretty wild... but it wasn't that long ago, all things considered when all the energy used on a farm was grown... on the farm! But it does help put into perspective how much energy it took to simply grow enough food for the farm - and then a little more to sell. The surplusses we have now - simply NOT possible. To learn about the origins of 40 acres and a Mule - no the earlier origins... and how 160 acres would become the standard for American farms, tune in, and marvel at the idea of the oatmeal raisin cookie - and how far away it is from it's high end hose food origin.Music Credit: Fingerlympics by Doctor TurtleShow Notes: https://thehistoryofamericanfood.blogspot.com/Email: TheHistoryofAmericanFood at gmail dot com Threads: @THoAFoodInstagram: @THoAFood& some other socials... @THoAFood
