K'Ehleyr. K'Ehleyr only appeared in the episodes "The Emissary" and "Reunion" on The Next Generation, but her half-Klingon, half-human character left an indelible impression for many Star Trek fans. With her strength of character, her sense of humor, and her diplomatic skills, K'Ehleyr is a unique and beloved character. In this episode of Earl Grey, hosts Amy Nelson and Justin Oser are joined by special guest Bruce Gibson of Literary Treks to discuss their impressions and thoughts on K'Ehleyr's two appearances in The Next Generation and the importance of her character to the show. They talk about her service in Starfleet, what it's like for her to be caught between human and Klingon cultures, her relationship with Worf and Alexander, and her untimely death. Romantic Relationships on TNG. There are many romantic relationships on The Next Generation - some of them lasting only an episode and others spanning the course of the entire show and the movies. Whether fleeting or long-lasting, romance on The Next Generation can reveal additional dimensions to the characters and show them in a different light. In this episode of Earl Grey, hosts Richard Marquez, Amy Nelson, and Justin Oser take the opportunity as Valentine's Day approaches to discuss a selection of important romances on The Next Generation. The relationships discussed are Troi and Riker, Troi and Worf, Worf and K'Ehleyr, Crusher and Picard, Vash and Picard, Picard and Daren, and Picard and Anij. Death in TNG.All good things must come to an end, and in The Next Generation, that means the deaths of many favorite (and perhaps not so favorite) characters. Mr. Data meets his demise in the final feature film Star Trek: Nemesis, the first security chief Tasha Yar dies a senseless death in the season one episode "Skin of Evil," and memorable guest star K'Ehleyr is murdered by Duras in "Reunion." These deaths affected our TNG characters and fans, leading to debates about whether these deaths served a purpose or whether they should have been avoided. Phillip, Darren, and Daniel discuss the end of these characters and others in this episode, asking how those deaths were treated, what was the aftermath, and what death teaches us about the dangers of exploring the final frontier.HostsDaniel Proulx, Phillip Gilfus, & Darren MoserChapters Data (00:03:20) Yar (00:19:30) K'Ehleyr (00:29:10) Lt Hawk (00:36:54)The Chorus (00:42:20)Q Who Deaths (00:43:42)The Bonding (00:49:50)Final Thoughts (00:51:11) Send us your feedback! The Worf-Dax TNG Wedding Invitations. We all remember the big wedding in Star Trek: Nemesis that finally united two characters who we saw fall in love throughout the years on TNG. But we would have loved to see our beloved TNG crew attend Lt. Commander Worf's wedding years prior in the Deep Space Nine episode "You Are Cordially Invited." The real-life limitations of budget, an existing storyline, and actor availability kept our favorite Klingon's friends and family from attending the ceremony. Nevertheless, in this episode of Earl Grey, we discuss who should have been sent calligraphy-engraved PADDs inviting them to attack Worf with painsticks at his bachelor party. From Worf's adopted parents and brother, to his closest friends on the Enterprise-E, to other people he encountered while serving under Picard, Darren, Daniel, and Phillip arrange the seating at the wedding reception to include those who would have enjoyed being part of Worf and Jadzia Dax saying, "I do." Bio Looks at the Genius of Gene Roddenberry's "Star Trek" On June 3, 1969, the final episode of Star Trek aired. But while it was the end of the original series television series, it was just the beginning of the franchise. Since that day 45 years ago, fans have continued to watch the adventures of Kirk, Spock, Bones, and the original Enterprise 1701. From those adventures we've learned about life, how to understand and respect others, and how to build technology that has changed our world. To mark this anniversary, Laurie Ulster has written a piece on the BIO website that highlights some of the genius of Gene Roddenberry's creation, and always what she has gained from watching the series over the years. Read the full retrospective on the BIO website.
