It's a battle between two ancient forces that defy description. It's also a Wonderful Life. It's the season finale of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and Mission Log Live's callers definitely had thoughts about it.
Long before Star Trek props toured conventions and museums, one historic copy of the pilot episode its way into the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum with help from Leonard Nimoy and Gene Roddenberry. This week, The Trek Files welcomes Glen Swanson, former NASA historian and author of Inspired Enterprise, to share the remarkable story of Star Trek's first contact with one of America's most iconic institutions. From a 1967 inquiry to Leonard Nimoy, to Gene's formal letter offering his 16mm color print of Where No Man Has Gone Before for the Smithsonian's collection, these early documents chart Star Trek's leap from TV series to cultural touchstone. We'll explore rare correspondence, photos of Gene at the museum, and even a telegram from 1968—just as Star Trek was renewed for its third season—that shows how the Smithsonian connection helped boost Trek's profile in a critical moment.
Well, dear listeners, we have come to the conclusion of our 100 episode list, Venturing Through The Universe. And while all good things must indeed come to an end, we can still celebrate the time we had together thanks to the magic of a good old fashioned holiday special. We'll laugh... we'll reminisce... and most importantly, we'll debate the finer points of Star Trek. Alas, it's also true that this special signals the podcast being put on indefinite hiatus. But as my good friend Mister Spock once said, "There are always possibilities." Star Trek month continues on Tread Perilously with an episode of The Next Generation called "Imaginary Friend." When the Enterprise surveys a nebula formed around a collapsed star, an energy being makes its way inside the ship and assumes the form of little Clara Sutter's imaginary friend. But it soon becomes clear to the child that her playmate, Isabella, is more than just a figment of her imagination. Meanwhile, the ship begins to encounter a form of energy that reads like matter to the shields, but is invisible to sensors. And when Isabella begins to make threats, it becomes clear to Captain Picard that the phenomena are related. Erik and Justin face a particularly poor TNG episode. The pair activate script doctor mode to find other ways to tell this story. Justin tries to figure out whose episode this really is. While Counselor Troi seems the focus, the guest characters take point, and Picard ends up bringing it home. Alexander Rozhenko makes a special appearance. Justin gets a few Deep Space Nine references into the proceedings. Erik tries to figure out the real dynamic between Clara and her engineer father. Both also try to determine what career goals mean in the 24th Century. A Twilight discussion breaks out and the film Invisible Child ends up mattering a great deal.
In the Star Trek: Voyager episode Prophecy, after decades adrift in the Delta Quadrant, a Klingon generation ship crosses paths with Voyager and finds what they've been looking for: a prophesied savior. Or rather, the unborn child of B'Elanna and Tom. Cue the ceremonial declarations, theological debates, and one very reluctant bat'leth duel. But when the Doctor uncovers a life-threatening illness among the Klingons, prophecy gives way to science, and that same baby might still be the key to salvation. Mission Log meets “Prophecy.” Hosted by John Champion and Norman Lao MISSION LOG SURVEY: Take the survey NOW and you could win rare, original TOS film cells! It's another jaunt to The Mirror Universe (or perhaps *A* Mirror Universe) this week as the "Discovery" writers have to figure out a way to get Georgiou into the past for what was then planned to be a "Section 31" series. In "Terra Firma, Part 1" the effects of being away from her universe and time are threatening to strike the Emperor down, and only a man in a funny hat may have the key to save her. There's also some incidental Burn stuff, as a treat. Also this week: bringing back an old favorite, amazing makeup, and Mirror People! We're kicking off Season 14 with a legend. George Takei joins The Trek Files to reflect on landing the role of Sulu in Star Trek's second pilot, “Where No Man Has Gone Before”—filmed 60 years ago in July 1965. With humor and honesty, George recalls the early days on set at Desilu's Culver Studios, working alongside James Doohan, and navigating the challenges of being a closeted gay actor in 1960s Hollywood. In a wide-ranging and heartfelt conversation, George also shares his early talks with Gene Roddenberry about Star Trek's inclusive vision—and what it meant to see that future taking shape on screen, even in its earliest days.
Ever had one of those slumber parties where there wasn't any pizza or soda, just board games and a wormhole and a crashed shuttle and a gas giant and a combustible atmosphere and oversized space centipedes and, oh yeah, a large intelligent lizard that looks a lot like a large intelligent lizard that tried to disembowel you that one time? No? Well, maybe you're like Mission Log Live's callers, and you had thoughts on the latest episode of Strange New Worlds instead.
A 59-Year Celebration Through Voices, Memories, and Missions My combined three-volume oral history and tribute, weaving together rare interviews, behind-the-scenes reflections, and heartfelt anecdotes from cast and crew across Star Trek: First Contact, Insurrection, and Nemesis. Supplemented by intimate conversations with actors from The Next Generation, Voyager, Deep Space Nine, Enterprise, and even a special Star Trek literary event. Featuring

We are doing it again. It's another crazy TrekRanks live show from Las Vegas, and this one is a sequel to the show we did on Episode 166 featuring “The. Best. Deaths.” On this week's TrekRanks live recording it's Episode 216 and the topic is even more rowdy with a breakdown of “The. Best. (Fake.) Deaths.” This is a fun one for our host Jim Moorhouse and our massive panel of eight guests, including Star Trek experts Alex Perry, Claire Little, Ken Reilly, Matt Hansen, Jamie McGregor, Thad Hait, Carl Wonders and John Krikorian, as they power through 45 rapid fire selections for “The. Best. (Fake.) Deaths.” This one will keep you on the edge of your seat! Episode Rundown: Diagnostic Cycle: If this topic was Top 5 Fake Deaths, you'd have Spock from “The Wrath of Khan” and that kind of thing. It's not. It's “The. Best. (Fake.) Deaths,” which is a whole other thing. (Yeah, we don't know what that means either, but just go with it.) Prime Directive: Each guest on this week's massive panel reveals exactly how they narrowed down list and made their final choices. The Order of Things: All the picks are revealed with the TrekRanks' original “Five words and a hashtag” summary, along with one episode that helps frame their choice. Secondary Systems: For a few extra picks that just missed our final list. Regeneration Cycle: The panel does not recap their picks (because there are so many of them), but we do dissect some of the interesting statistical anomalies that arose from the discussion. Temporal Inversion: We flashback to a previous episode of TrekRanks and relay some of the feedback received from listeners. If you have your own picks you would like to relay to us, please hail us at 757-828-RANK (7265) and record your own personal TrekRanks log to let us know your picks for The. Best. (Fake.) Deaths. [Strange New Worlds review starts at 23:20 ] Sometimes, an episode comes along that benefits from a little intoxication. To review this week’s Strange New Worlds wacky Vulcan episode, Anthony and Laurie decided that being sober was the wrong way to go, so Tony poured himself some Jack Daniels and Laurie fired up a joint. Before their respective substances kicked in, they covered the latest in Paramount/Skydance news and how Star Trek’s future is looking up, a bit of Starfleet Academy news from Kirsten Beyer, tidbits about Enterprise and TNG from panels at Star Trek Las Vegas, and a couple of upcoming regional conventions. With elevated moods, they then reviewed “Four-and-a-Half Vulcans,” which they both felt missed the mark on both Vulcans and comedy, although they managed to find some bright spots and avoided taking the whole thing too seriously… for the most part. Cheers!

In the Star Trek: Voyager episode Lineage, B'Elanna and Tom get the life-changing news that they're going to be parents. But joy quickly gives way to fear as B'Elanna confronts the pain of her past: her father's abandonment, her isolation, and the shame she felt about her Klingon heritage. Convinced she's sparing her child from pain, she attempts to re-engineer her daughter's DNA without telling Tom. But where's the line between protecting your child and erasing who they are? Mission Log weighs the science, the choices, and the consequences in Lineage. Hosted by John Champion and Norman Lao Welcome to Mission Log, a Roddenberry Entertainment podcast, where we explore the Star Trek universe one episode at a time. Each week, Mission Log examines a single episode of Star Trek, diving into its ethical subtext, metaphors, and cultural significance. From the show's most iconic moments to its hidden gems, we analyze what makes Star Trek one of the greatest science fiction sagas of all time. In every episode of Mission Log we… Recap the story and analyze key moments. Discuss the morals, messages, and meanings of the dilemmas presented. There's trouble on the (possibly tiny?) world of Kwejian this week, and Book has to book it over there in "Sanctuary"! Surprisingly convincing the Starfleet powers-that-be to let the "Discovery" and her crew tag along is super easy, barely an inconvenience and we're all getting involved in family drama that overlaps neatly with the oft-mentioned Emerald Chain its boss Osira! Also this week: two plots with one stone, the Federation Quid Pro Quo, and comedy sci-fi! [Sanctuary: 01:11; yuk it up: 47:11] [set phasers to fun!: https://sshbpodcast.tumblr.com/post/793057384742486016/a-priest-an-alien-and-a-time-traveler-walk-into ]
Welcome back to TreknoPod – our continuing mission to boldly explore Star Trek: Enterprise episode by episode! In this episode, Captain Shoff, Captain Vactor, and Captain Linda Paiges review Enterprise Season 1, Episode 4: “Strange New World.” We break down the NX-01's first away mission to a mysterious planet, Archer's risky decision to camp overnight, Porthos the Beagle's big moment, and the creepy hallucinogenic spores that nearly tear the crew apart. We discuss themes of wonder, paranoia, and humanity's eagerness to explore—plus ghost stories by the campfire, T'Pol's struggles to keep control, and why this episode feels like a mix of classic Trek adventure and psychological horror. This one also gave us fun trivia: the caves filmed here were used in Batman '66 as the Batcave entrance! If you love Star Trek (Enterprise, TNG, DS9, Voyager, Strange New Worlds, or TOS), this is the podcast for you. Join our crew as we continue this rewatch journey together.

A documentary maker with an agenda collides with a crew on edge during a mission where nothing goes as planned, leading to a single question: "What Is Starfleet?" Mission Log Live's callers might just have the answer - or they might have a lot to say about this unconventional episode of Strange New Worlds.
TFIYE Ep#199: Release The Kraken Bunnies! In this episode, hosts Tim Trotter and Nate Foo kick things off with casual banter about their recent woes, including health issues (Tim's skull pains and chiropractor visits, Nate's headaches), matching flat tires on his and his wife's car, extreme California heat (109°F), and AC repairs. Tim shares details on his upcoming mini-vacation to Great Wolf Lodge for water slides, while Nate vents about tire shop hassles and worn treads potentially voiding warranties. They compare road noise in Washington vs. California highways and mention quirky musical roads that play tunes like the William Tell Overture via speed berms. The conversation shifts to major life updates: Tim recounts a grueling week helping his mom prepare for an estate sale on her 35-acre property following his father's passing. He describes hauling massive amounts of accumulated items, including a full shipping container, prepper supplies, barns full of tools, knives, flashlights, old hard drives, MacBooks (like a PowerBook G3), and endless cables. He highlights the emotional and physical toll, plus discoveries like forgotten family ashes. Nate discusses his brother-in-law's dying PC, which has led to piecemeal part replacements, essentially building a new rig. He also reveals last-minute travel drama for PAX West in Seattle: his cousin's sudden divorce forced him to book expensive hotels near Sea-Tac. Nate mentions a side trip to Vancouver, WA, for a family birthday, and they note the coincidence of both being near Great Wolf Lodge areas (though not overlapping). They reflect on reaching Episode 199, teasing the milestone 200th next time, and how they've recorded ~150 episodes together. They geek out over 56K modems, recalling dial-up sounds, specs, and modern USB versions still sold for ~$40 on Amazon for fax needs. They reminisce about connection speeds rarely hitting 53K due to phone line limits. Star Trek App: Nate shares an iOS RSS reader called "Stars" styled after TNG's LCARS interface (beeps, boops included), which Tim already uses weekly. They tie it to Star Trek's influence on iPads. Smartphones & Hardware: Discussion on Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7 (now as thin as a regular phone when folded) and Flip; Nate plans to upgrade from his Z Fold 5 despite a center crease crack. They speculate on Apple's potential foldable (maybe an iPad Mini-like device or flip phone), rumors of an ultra-thin "iPhone Air," MagSafe changes, and a possible M4-powered Apple TV. Nate praises a $250 4TB Samsung Evo 870 SSD. Gaming & Apple: They lament Apple's slow gaming push, praising Digital Foundry's coverage of Mac performance (e.g., Cyberpunk on M1+ chips matching 30-series NVIDIA cards in efficiency). They dream of an Apple gaming console or updated Apple TV for titles like Death Stranding. The episode wraps with editing woes (Nate's Audacity setup vs. potential GarageBand switch) and family interruptions in Nate's studio. Clocking in shorter than usual, it's a mix of personal rants, tech nostalgia, and forward-looking gadget hype, ending on their signature "Get forked." This episode highlights the hosts' enduring friendship amid chaos, with plenty of laughs over shared absurdities like "kraken bunnies" (rabbits with papillomavirus horns). The one where we finally put the antics to restWell listeners, this is the end, the final episode, the last of Rewind...All good things...you know the rest! Haley and Sara are here for one final laugh and terrible attempt at discussing Star Trek Picard and the season 3 finale, The Last Generation. Tune in as we chat about life updates after a huge break, reminisce on the podcast (briefly, don't worry, we don't drag it out) and then we discuss the final episode of the incredible gift that was Season 3 of Star Trek Picard. Thank you so much to our listeners, friends and our cheerleaders Bill and Dan. This has been so much fun and it's definitely not the end of Sara and Haley. But for now, it's Haley frequencies closed. And apparently.
In the Star Trek: Voyager episode Shattered, time gets all wibbly-wobbly aboard Voyager. Sickbay's in the past, the mess hall's in the future, and Chakotay is the only one who knows what's going on. Expect run-ins with old friends like Seska and new-old ones like adult Naomi Wildman. It's a grand tour of Voyager history; just avoid the temporal anomalies while Mission Log gets Shattered. The search for the origin of The Burn continues in "Unification III", and our next step is Vulcan! Wait, no, it's called Ni'Var now. At the home to a still-not-quite meshed Vulcan and Romulan culture, Michael Burnham has to defend her thesis while Saru gets to engage in the ages-old "Trek" tradition of being a captain who makes a pass at a guest star. Also this week: sci-fi pinching from Judaism, Advocate Momchael, and military sci-fi! [Unification III: 00:47; FALL IN...IN SPACE (sometimes)!: 52:59] [Drop and read it twenty times!: https://sshbpodcast.tumblr.com/post/792426499446833153/im-not-at-all-tired-of-all-these-star-wars]
Welcome back to TreknoPod – our continuing mission to boldly explore Star Trek: Enterprise episode by episode! In this episode, Captain Shoff, Captain Vactor, and Captain Linda Paiges review Enterprise Season 1, Episode 3: "Fight or Flight." We break down Hoshi's struggles, Archer's leadership, the NX-01 design, T'Pol's similarities to Seven of Nine, and why this episode finally feels like Star Trek.We discuss themes of fear, exploration, and humanity's early steps into deep space—plus Sluggo the slug, Phlox's hilarious lines, and Archer's prejudice toward Vulcans. This episode is packed with lore, laughs, and thoughtful debate. If you love Star Trek (Enterprise, TNG, DS9, Voyager, Strange New Worlds, or TOS), this is the podcast for you. Join our crew as we continue this rewatch journey together.
Ever get just what you wanted and then found out there were terms and conditions? James T. Kirk takes the captain's chair in a crisis for the first time, and Mission Log Live's hosts and callers have plenty of notes for him on his first real command.
After almost two full years, Strange New Worlds is finally back and we're jumping straight into the action with the highly anticipated Season 3 premiere, “Hegemony, Part 2.” This week, we're breaking it all down in real time, just hours after the episode drops. Pike and the Enterprise crew are back and there's no easing back into this one. We'll be digging into all the fallout from last season's cliffhanger, exploring how the show handled the return to the Gorn conflict and whether the emotional stakes lived up to the build-up. Did Pike make the right call? Was the rescue worth the cost? And what does this episode signal for the rest of the season? We've definitely got thoughts. Of course, it wouldn't be Trek Geeks without some hot takes, speculation, and your live comments fueling the chaos. This is a *spoiler-filled* discussion, so if you haven't seen the episode yet, maybe warp out and come back after. But if you have watched, grab a drink, fire up the viewscreen, and join us as we kick off another season of SNW with the passion only Trek Geeks can deliver.
Things get gloriously weird as we dive into "Wedding Bell Blues," the second episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3. After a three-month time jump, the Enterprise is docked at Starbase One for the Federation's 100th anniversary, but Spock has something more personal on his mind: the return of Nurse Chapel. Unfortunately for him, she's not alone. Enter Chapel's date, Dr. Roger Korby, her old mentor, and the unfortunate spark for Spock's emotional tailspin. What begins as an awkward love triangle quickly warps into a full-blown rom-com fever dream. Spock wakes up engaged to Chapel, the crew is prepping for a wedding instead of a centennial celebration, and reality itself seems to be playing fast and loose with the facts. While some members of the crew are blissfully swept up in the festivities, others start to sense something is very, very off--especially a confused and suspicious Dr. Korby. We'll dig into the emotional core of the episode, including Ethan Peck's fantastic performance as a Vulcan barely holding himself together, and how Strange New Worlds continues to blend genres without losing its heart. Director Jordon Canning, who brought us last season's rom-com "Charades," once again balances comedy, sci-fi, and surprising depth in a story that explores how emotions shape our reality.
