Anthony and Laurie go through the latest news, starting with a round-up of Starfleet Academy tidbits—voice casting, a character photo, and a brand-new poster—to build up anticipating for its January 2026 debut. They discuss Christina Chong’s perception of what season 3 of Strange New Worlds will bring and all the photos and videos Anson Mount is posting as they wind up filming on the show for the final time. And Prodigy is up for two Emmys, plus it’s about to leave Netflix. Next, they switch into movie mode, with updates on why a Paramount exec canceled the Noah Hawley Star Trek movie, and what it might mean if Paramount (Skydance) ends up acquiring Warner Bros. Discovery. They have the latest on the long-awaited Voyager documentary To The Journey and a possible next season of The Center Seat, the already sold out Star Trek Lego set along with the sad news that Hero Within (and other smaller companies) can’t afford their Trek license anymore. Then they round up all the intel from the Trek to Chicago convention, with interviews and panels from Todd Stashwick, Jeri Ryan, William Shatner, and Brent Spiner & Gates McFadden, who add some detail to Jonathan Frakes’ story from a few weeks back about TNG table reads. Then they play Laurie’s interview with Garrett Wang about Voyager‘s 30th anniversary, “Two-Pip Kim,” early days with Jennifer Lien, and more. They wrap up with Tony’s enthusiasm for the new Stargate series, Laurie’s announcement of the date for Trek Talks 5, and a lot of Instagram activity from Marina Sirtis and Michael Dorn. Phew!

After seven seasons and one hell of a journey, it's time to start wrapping up Star Trek: Voyager. John and Norman are joined by TrekCulture's Ellie Littlechild to take a look back, starting with Ellie's viral article "10 Most Forgettable Voyager Episodes." Which ones did we forget… and which ones should we? Then we turn to a much harder task: naming our personal top three "essential" Voyager episodes (spoiler: there's no way we're sticking three). Plus, we tackle some listener comments and invite you to stick around for more Voyager wrap-up coming soon. Hosted by John Champion and Norman Lao Welcome to Mission Log, a Roddenberry Entertainment podcast, where we explore the Star Trek universe one episode at a time. In "Stormy Weather" Zora decides to be a difficult little AI. What's new in sci-fi, though, right? Except instead of evil, she's decided she needs to have crippling anxiety that keeps her from doing her job. Ok, I guess that IS a new one. Meanwhile, Book has gotten zapped and is being haunted by the ghost of his crappy dead dad, or maybe just a hallucination of him? Either way, he's a jerk. Also this week: robot pain, the healing power of board games, and sci-fi weaponry! Is it arrogance or ignorance that leads to war with a microscopic lifeform? Dom Bettinelli, Jimmy Akin, and Fr. Jason Tyler unpack TNG's "Home Soil," its murky themes, awkward writing, and what truly makes something alive.
This week, The Trek Files returns to one of our most personal corners of Trek history. Reinelda Estupinian, known lovingly as Reina, joins us again to share rare family photos and her firsthand memories of life inside the Roddenberry household. Hired in 1974 as a nanny for six-month-old Rod Roddenberry, Reina became a trusted part of the family for over three decades, eventually working closely with Majel Barrett Roddenberry at Lincoln Enterprises. Reina shares candid and touching stories of those years: traveling with the family, managing Majel's whirlwind convention life, and offering emotional support through Gene's declining health and Majel's final days. With affection and a few sitcom-worthy anecdotes, she paints a vivid picture of the private lives behind Star Trek's public legacy.

Amikor az Enterprise négy zászlósa, Sam Lavelle, Sito Jaxa, Alyssa Ogawa és Taurik a lehetséges előléptetésük miatt izgulnak, a hajó olyan küldetésre indul, melynek részletei az alacsonyabb rangú tisztek számára mindvégig homályosak maradnak. Míg Lavelle kényszeresen igyekszik megfelelni Rikernek, Sito múltja nemtesztést kelt a kapitányban, az ifjú bajori azonban Worf személyében nyer kitartó támogatást. Hollywood has gone back to the well, or maybe it's the library, with its recent remake of "The Running Man". So we've decided to take a look at both of them! In each dystopian future, life is awful but everyone agrees the best way to get through it is to watch people get hunted down in the titular game show! Arnie's a cop who took a while to realize he was a baddie, while Glen Powell is an ordinary guy who wants to do the right thing but forgot to get his anger issues fixed. On the way we'll meet side characters of varying wackiness, hostages of varying acting abilities, and satire of varying levels of focus! Also this week: should've called Paul, normal man v action figure, and product placement!
Trip Tucker gets… pregnant?! We break down Star Trek: Enterprise S1E5 “Unexpected”—from Xyrillian “holodeck” tech and cultural consent questions to Klingon chaos and the show's early-era exploration vibes. We also swap con stories (hi, LeVar!), talk why this ep is actually funny AND dark, and preview next week's “Terra Nova” (directed by LeVar Burton).
Hot take time. We're rewatching Star Trek: Enterprise Season 1, Episode 10 — “Fortunate Son.” LeVar Burton directs a tense Nausicaan revenge story that pits Boomer freighters against Starfleet ethics. Did Archer overstep? Did Travis Mayweather finally get a real character episode—or did the show fumble it?In this TREKNOPOD review, Shoff, Captain Linda, and Vactor debate:• Jurisdiction & authority over civilian ships• Revenge vs restraint (is Ryan justified?)• Boomer culture vs Starfleet ideals• The morality of kidnapping/torture to stop raids• Whether Mayweather was elevated… or sidelined againWe also shout out LeVar Burton's direction, the Nausicaans' legacy (TNG's “Tapestry,” dom-jot!), and some fun production notes.Tell us your verdict: Is “Fortunate Son” underrated, or the season's first real miss?#StarTrek #StarTrekEnterprise #TrekPodcast #Nausicaans #LeVarBurton
What happens when fans learn their beloved Star Trek is returning, but not the way they expect? This week on The Trek Files, we take a mid-season dive into the pre-internet letter-writing era of fandom with a look at Interstat #109, a Star Trek "LOC-zine" published just after the announcement of The Next Generation in late 1986. With Mission Log host and producer John Champion joining Larry, we revisit that first wave of passionate, skeptical, and sometimes prophetic reactions from fans adjusting to the idea of Star Trek without Kirk, Spock, or the original cast. From fears about recasting to early excitement about a new crew, these letters reveal a fandom both resistant to change and deeply hopeful for Trek's future. And while the tone may be more thoughtful than today's drive-by social media culture, the underlying emotions haven't changed. Together, John and Larry reflect on how fandom evolves, why backlash often masks deep investment, and how publications like Interstat helped shape the Trek we know today—slowly, one stamp at a time.
Course: Oblivion (Star Trek: Voyager, S5 E18) was recommended by Pascal Farful, He/Him, who said: I have been watching Voyager alongside TNG and DS9 in date-of-release order. Voyager has somewhat nested in as my third place of three. Last is a disservice, but my expectations for Voyager are... less. The writing clunks more often than it slices. As a viewer, I feel that VOY challenges me the least of the three."Course: Oblivion" is an episode about death. About integrity. About despair and about the meaning of self. It's an episode which does what I want most from art, takes a large, vulgar risk and commits to it. Unlike almost all the Voy episodes I've seen thus far, where the show feels like it's trying to serve me up The Star Trek I Ordered From The Menu, "Course: Oblivion" doesn't care what I want, and I get the distinct impression that it doesn't care if I like it. But I do like it. A lot.It is true that, for all plot related purposes, "Course: Oblivion" doesn't matter. The crew are synthetic copies of the real thing. They explode meaninglessly into nothing, oblivious to (nearly) everyone. But what "Course: Oblivion" does is ask the viewer "if you accomplish nothing, nobody remembers you and you're not even who you think you are, does it matter if you act honourably and with integrity? Do your sins leave scars if no flesh is left to bare them?"Jayneway could have destroyed the mining ship, to have a chance to save what was left of the crew. But it would have been murder, so she doesn't. Jayneway, she of Tuvix, decides that her integrity matters more than her life. Kim consoles Paris over the loss of Torres even though these three people are not those people. But duplicate Kim believes in the principles of the real Kim. So he honours those principles regardless of the reality of self. What is the difference between duplicate Kim and "real" Kim if both honour the same principles and integrities? Are you who you are or are you *what you do*?Yes, the ship explodes. No, nobody will remember them. Yes, if you want to look at it purely in terms of 'getting these people to earth', this is pointless. But the value of these people is not in their home, their destination, and in their intent, but in their dignity and their principles. And Course: Oblivion teaches us that the point of following your principles and having integrity is not to be remembered or to be "the true, definitive self", it's because, even in the bleakest and most hopeless of times, honouring your principles and your integrity matters and is honourable. Even if nobody is around to see it.Course: Oblivion first aired on March 3, 1999, written by story by Bryan Fuller and Nick Sagan, teleplay by Nick Sagan, and directed by Anson WilliamsAfter Torres and Paris get married, subspace radiation causes the crew and their ship to disintegrate. The Joy of Trek is hosted by Khaki & Kay, with editing & production by Chief Engineer Greg and music by Fox Amoore (Bandcamp | Bluesky)Send us your recommendations, or support us on Patreon.Find us at joyoftrek.com · Twitter · Facebook
This is the big one. Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly join me to break down their explosive new IDW Star Trek saga The Last Starship — a story set hundreds of years after the TNG era, long after the familiar map of the Federation has been shattered by a galaxy-wide catastrophe. In this far-future Trek epic, a desperate Starfleet captain takes one last swing at survival: resurrecting James T. Kirk. Not a simulation. Not a hologram. The real deal — brought back because he might be the only mind capable of solving the crisis threatening what's left of the galaxy.Lanzing & Kelly get candid about craft, collaboration, canon, and why this story had to be told now. If you love thoughtful sci-fi, bold Trek worldbuilding, and big character swings, you're going to want to dive into this conversation.

In the Star Trek: Voyager episose Endgame, after 23 years in the Delta Quadrant, Admiral Janeway finally made it home, but at too high a cost. The lack of time to tell stories is painfully evident in "The Examples". A plot about prisoner rights and society that would feel right at home in about any "Trek" series has to be squeezed down until it loses all nuance all so it can share space with a new science person who is like all the awfulness of early Stamets with none of the later Stamets charm. Because no better time to run an experiment that there's really no big rush on than during a crisis! Also this week: potatoes, Frozen, and scientists! In the 1993 Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Interface," Geordi La Forge uses experimental technology to remotely explore a stranded starship and is confronted by a deeply personal mystery. Was the image of his mother real, or something else entirely? This week, returning guest Dr. David Williams joins Larry to explore the real-world science behind this episode. Using a vintage press summary as our entry point, they discuss how TNG anticipated advances in virtual interfaces and robotics: technologies that now drive space exploration through probes, planetary rovers, and immersive control systems. From the Voyager missions to Mars rovers and the growing role of augmented reality in mission planning, Star Trek's tech continues to align with our scientific future. Along the way, Dave and Larry reflect on the emotional themes of "Interface," and how fiction about space helps us prepare for its most human dimensions.

Ever wish Star Trek was a show about two little girls being besties? Then this is the episode for you! It's “Imaginary Friend” on this all-new episode of ST:TNGeez, Not Another Star Trek Podcast, and it's coming at you right about . . . Is there anything worse than a barrel on the Enterprise? Well, how about a glowy light? Yeah, it's another one of those, but this time it isn't taking over Data and O'Brien or knocking up Troi. This time, it's becoming a lonely girl's imaginary friend (that would be a great name for an episode!). It seems Clara's dad has been dragging her all over the damned galaxy, and she's feeling the effects. Seems the poor thing doesn't have any friends. Sad, right? The glowy light being thinks so, too, so it decides to take the form of Clara's fantasy pal, Isabella. Sounds sweet until Isabella starts showing signs that she may want more from the Enterprise than a new bestie. Will Troi be able to help a lonely girl find her place on the ship? Will Picard be able to make meaningful contact with yet another entity? Will Worf stop scaring the living shit out of all the children on board? Find out in this all-new episode of ST:TNGeez Not Another Star Trek Podcast!Even more available at: https://tngeez.com

In the Star Trek: Voyager episose Renaissance Man, The Doctor doesn't quite seem himself. In fact, he seems like just about everyone else on the senior staff. "All Is Possible" as long as you have a team! Like a clutch of cadets who unfortunately remind us of one of the worst episodes of "Voyager". Like that hot Vulcan politician you would violate ANY Prime Directive for. Like that physician/psychiatrist who has his own stuff to deal with but is going to ignore it for now! Also this week: torch passing, military dictatorship, and artificial life forms! Imagine being invited to visit the Star Trek: The Next Generation set before it even aired by none other than Bob Justman. This week, The Trek Files welcomes back Doug Drexler to share the story of his very first visit to the TNG set in 1987, spurred by a letter from legendary Trek producer Robert H. Justman. That visit changed everything. Doug quickly transitioned from fan to crew member, taking any job that would get him in the door as he built the career that would shape the look of Star Trek for decades to come. With his signature energy and humility, Doug talks about what it meant to go from wide-eyed visitor to behind-the-scenes creative force, and why, even now, he understands fans who struggle with change in the franchise he loves so much. Plus, we're in the final stretch of the Kickstarter campaign for Trek Star, the documentary chronicling Doug's incredible Trek journey.

In the Star Trek: Voyager episose Homestead, there are Talaxians on that asteroid, and Neelix isn't just drawn to their cause… he might be drawn home. With Janeway's hands tied by the Prime Directive and hostile space-miners closing in, it's Neelix who must decide where he belongs and who he wants to be. Mission Log says goodbye in Homestead. Hosted by John Champion and Norman Lao Welcome to Mission Log, a Roddenberry Entertainment podcast, where we explore the Star Trek universe one episode at a time. Each week, Mission Log examines a single episode of Star Trek, diving into its ethical subtext, metaphors, and cultural significance. From the show's most iconic moments to its hidden gems, we analyze what makes Star Trek one of the greatest science fiction sagas of all time. In every episode of Mission Log we… Recap the story and analyze key moments. Discuss the morals, messages, and meanings of the dilemmas presented. I really hope you saw season 1 of "Picard" or the right episodes of DS9, because otherwise "Choose to Live" might not make as much sense as it could. In the main plot, multiple poor choices are made by multiple people so a story can happen. In the B plot Stamets meet scientists more stuck-up than he is while Book gets some psychic psychology. In the C plot "Star Trek" again flips death the bird. Also this week: plot swords, Mac and Tilly, and alien characters! [Choose: 00:52; klatu barada hi there: 59:14] [No, they're not just humans in rubber foreheads shut up!: https://sshbpodcast.tumblr.com/post/799426667740282880/take-these-aliens-to-your-leader]
We continue our wedding series with Star Trek: The Next Generation's "Haven" -- in which Deanna Troi's arranged marriage is interrupted by the arrival of an AIDS allegory. It's … rough. It's rough. Note: Liz says two completely inaccurate things with absolute confidence: first she claims that Wyatt is the only guest star with a costume change (false, that is Lwaxana) and then she claims that he's wearing grey in the holodeck scene (he is wearing burgundy). And unfortunately these were LOAD-BEARING INACCURACIES that couldn't easily be edited out. Never trust a podcaster. "I don't know who wrote this, but I cannot support them." We know early TNG loved a Special Boy, but why is Wyatt Miller the protagonist of this episode? Is Lwaxana Troi a reliable source of information on Betazoid culture and custom? "Genetic bonding" is a fancy word for "child betrothal" and also sounds kiiiiiiiinda sketchy? Were Ian Troi and the Millers attempting to pull some sort of eugenics shenanigans? (Streaming movie about Michelle Yeoh taking out Ian Troi, co-starring Jess Bush as young Lwaxana, when?) Liz is not a fan of Lwaxana and takes issue with the current "if you don't like Lwaxana Troi, you're a misogynist" discourse "I would like to have a dinner party with Lwaxana Troi and Cersei Lannister." Is Mon Mothma the anti-Lwaxana Troi? Either way, she's joining Lwaxana and Cersei for cocktails
Before he was an Oscar-winning makeup artist and Star Trek's go-to designer, Doug Drexler was just a teenage fan fighting to save the show he loved. This week, Doug joins The Trek Files to reflect on a remarkable journey—from the 1968 Newsday article that quoted him as a 14-year-old letter-writing activist, to working for the legendary Federation Trading Post in New York, and eventually becoming one of the franchise's most beloved creative minds. Doug shares memories of fandom in the '60s and '70s like filming Star Trek episodes off his TV with an 8mm home movie camera, then waiting days for the film to be processed just to rewatch them. That early passion led to a career in Hollywood, where he helped shape the look of Trek for decades, from The Next Generation to Enterprise and beyond. Plus, a look ahead at the upcoming documentary Trek Star, chronicling Doug's unique Trek story from sidewalk protests to the Paramount lot.
Episode 197: Star Trek Picard Season 3 (Part 1 of 3). Eric and I are joined by guest Mike Aguirre to discuss Picard Season 3 episodes 1-4 The Next Generation, Disengage, Seventeen Seconds, and No Win Scenario. We talk easter eggs, what worked for us, what didn't and some ins and outs of how Terry Matalas turned Picard into a love letter for TNG fans. Bob, Eric and Mike "Rating" so far - Thumbs Up. After a near disaster on a Ferengi vessel, our favorite butt-headed villains sneak on board to uncrack a glow-energy egg in which Kamala, an empathic metamorph, comes cracking out -- and this little alien is hard boiled! Seems Kamala is in the process of finis'ral, a stage of transformation in which her body is emitting heavy doses of pheromones and she's skunking up the whole ship with that stink! This was all supposed to be used on her arranged husband-to- be but instead it erects every male crew member she comes in contact with on the ship, even our Captain! (I guess they're done with the gay stuff on this show, because no ladies get aroused ! One and done, know what I mean!) Seems JLP gets a little crush on Famke, I mean Kamal and they start vibing with each other even though Kamala is an arranged marriage that will heal war between two planets -- two flipping planets, Dave!! Beverly calls it slavery, Picard calls it culture, Riker calls in for some alone time on the Holodeck! All of this and somehow more on this exciting episode of ST:TNGeez, Not Another Star Trek Podcast! It's Season 5, Episode 21 -- “The Perfect Mate”Even more available at: https://tngeez.com

On the Star Trek: Voyager episode Natural Law, Chakotay and Seven find themselves stranded in a protected zone among a pre-industrial alien society. Seven plays catch-up with cultural sensitivity while Chakotay's inner anthropologist intensifies. But even good intentions have consequences when modern colonists arrive. Meanwhile, Tom Paris is cited for flying while cocky. This week, Mission Log explores Natural Law. Hosted by John Champion and Norman Lao Welcome to Mission Log, a Roddenberry Entertainment podcast, where we explore the Star Trek universe one episode at a time. Small spoiler for this episode: This wasn't our favorite episode but we're told we are very entertaining when we don't like a episode. In this episode of Holodeck Divas we discuss another Maurice Hurley written episode of Star Trek - The Next Generation, Time Squared (s2e13). Captain Picard suddenly has a totally different personality, and Riker can't make a omelett (which has nothing to do with the rest of the story). Join us as we "celebrate" this episode of TNG.

It's another “everything goes” abstract topic on TrekRanks as our expert panel tackles “Abstract L,” labeling luminous locations and lightships of all sorts that randomly begin with the letter L. This is TrekRanks at its abstract finest! Led by host Jim Moorhouse and guests Alex Perry, Claire Little and Ken Reilly, literally anything is on the table in this fun “flash ranks” episode recorded live at STLV via a temporal anomaly. Log in and let's fly! Episode Rundown: Diagnostic Cycle: We briefly go through not only our “Abstract” roll call, but our “Flash Ranks” roll call to prep for the topic. Prime Directive: Each guest on this week's panel reveals exactly how they narrowed down their list and made their final choices. The Order of Things: All the picks are revealed with the TrekRanks' original “Five words and a hashtag” summary, along with one episode that helps frame their choice. Secondary Systems: For a few extra picks that just missed our final list. Regeneration Cycle: The panel recaps their picks and we dissect some of the interesting statistical anomalies that arose from the discussion. Temporal Inversion: We flashback to a previous episode of TrekRanks and relay some of the feedback received from listeners. If you have your own picks you would like to relay to us, please hail us at 757-828-RANK (7265) and record your own personal TrekRanks log to let us know your picks for Abstract L. (Or you can record it yourself and just DM us @TrekRanks.com on Bluesky.) Your comments could be used as part of a Temporal Causality Loop on an upcoming episode (and might get you a chance to be a guest on a future episode, too). And don't forget to check out TrekRanks.com for our entire back catalog of episodes and a detailed rundown on every episode of Star Trek ever.
The first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation was famously turbulent, but behind the scenes, it was also a hive of creative experimentation and open doors for new voices. This week, we welcome veteran writer/producer Cash Edwards, whose original story pitch “The True One” caught the attention of Gene Roddenberry, D.C. Fontana, and his longtime friend, producer Herb Wright. Though the script wasn't produced, it sparked genuine enthusiasm, and Herb's memo to Gene is our document of the week. Cash joins Larry to share memories from TNG's earliest days: working closely with the producers, meeting the cast, and witnessing the scramble for scripts that defined Season One. He also reveals some, let's say colorful, ideas he contributed to the development of the Ferengi's first appearance (laser bolos, anyone? leech grenades?). It's a window into a time when Star Trek was still figuring itself out and welcoming new creatives into the mix who helped shape the journey.
