What happens when the Enterprise malfunctions, decks are separated from each other and the commanding officer is Lieutenant Troi -- Well “Damages” is what happens! The Enterprise encounters a dying star or a crystalline entity, or the Borg and things go more out of control than ever -- wait, what disables this Galaxy Class spaceship?Point being, the bridge crew is separated as Picard is on a field trip with kids, Data's off oiling his completely functional… and Riker is, where is Riker? Did we tell you somehow Worf and Keiko are stuck together ? Anyhow, the regulars are off the Bridge except for Troi and O'brian who's never there, but still… Ensign Ro is back! This crack team squabbles over what to do but eventually count on Troi to lead them through the Enterprise's disaster. Meanwhile, Picard is injured in a turbo lift with a bunch of kids, Riker is sussing something out with Data, Bev LaForge are hanging for their dear lives, and Worf is delivering the next O'brien with Keiko…All of this happens on board our Galaxy Class Enterprise like it's the disaster film "Airport” from the 70's and more! Will Worf be able to Klingon-Duala? Find out in this exciting episode of ST:TNGeez, Not Another Star Trek Podcast! Even more available at: https://tngeez.com
Season's ending, crew, time to bring in the big guns. We got Lore, the Borg, a lot of Hugh mentions, a Federation Admiral, and a slew of dead red shirts. Or Yellow. You get the idea. They might as well have had a saucer separation. Why didn't they? Blew all the budget on Einstein's facial prosthesis? Data is feeling himself. He fights the borg and gets super mad, going so far as to strangle one of them. These aren't normal Borg BTW. They are Brosus. And Torsus. And Daryl. And they follow someone they call the One. The Federation wants Picard to reverse what he did with Hugh and kill them all. Meanwhile, Data experiments with more killing and more death on the holodeck and freaks out Troi when he says he enjoyed it. Woof. Then the Borg enter a transwarp conduit, leave Crosus on board to sabotage Data, and they fly off into the sunset in a shuttlecraft. It all comes clear that it's been Data's long lost brother Lore who's been pulling the strings and making the Borg into fascist assholes. Now he's got Data on his side ... TO BE CONTINUED! Temba, his arms wide!We have a new episode of Casual Trek for you and it's about language, no, not naughty language, although we're both British so we're VERY good at that. We're talking about times where language and communication have been important Trekian themes! First, everyone on Deep Space Nine is talking gibberish instead of Technobabble in ‘Babel' while in Strange New Worlds, Uhura's first away mission goes horribly awry when she has to communicate with the ‘Children of the Comet' and finally, we deal with one of The Next Generation's best episodes as we try and find out just who is Darmok and why was he at Tanagra in ‘Darmok.' Temba, at rest! Episodes Discussed: Babel (09:42), Children of the Comet (31:17) and Darmok (52:57)Talking Points Include: Catch-22, Sakamoto Days and the slow weebification of Charlie, Love Hurts, Sean Austin, is this Chief O'Brien's first worst day, Babel originally being a TNG script and how it would not have been as fun, the Odo/Quark dynamic, Kira having no time for BS, how irritating it must be to play a Vulcan sometimes, Sam Kirk is not this show's Kenny, does Strange New Worlds disregard Roddenberry's attitude to God? Uhura and Spock being friends, Miles misses Hemmer, when Spock thinks you ****ed up… you ****ed up! Troi's rather slim resume, Miles suffers the Darmok problem with UK-Specific references in the US, ‘Darmok' might be Star Trek's clearest descent into allegory, How ‘Darmok' inspired the scariest episode of Doctor Who, Picard's new jacket, Pedant's Corner: The Chuckle Brothers were a slapstick comedy duo popular on British children's telly. To me. To you. Rolf Harris was also a popular children's entertainer on British TV… until he was convicted on many charges of SA towards minors.Miles guesting on Famicom Dojo as Sean plays ‘Out of This World.' https://www.youtube.com/live/Ucv-hoyVmPU?si=hx_tb9k9qVCqZBMr

TimEscape. Tim's Cape. It's all about getting high on time. Picard draws a smiley face on an exploding reactor blast, proving that graffiti is the same in the 24th century. Troi, Laforge, Picard and Data attend the most boring /slash/ misogynistic science conference on the fanciest shuttlecraft in the fleet. But everybody keeps kitting the pause /slash/ fast-forward button. The fruit got real moldy and Picard's fingernails grew ten sizes that day. Anomalies abound as the Enterprise is found in mid-space battle with a Romulan warbird. What what what? It's timey-wimey and a ton of fun. No notes. Two Rikers! Holy continuity breakdown! This one is directed by Levar Burton, and doesn't focus so much on the science fiction of meeting your double. Instead, we get a much greater understanding of Troi and Riker's romance before the show even started. It's bold. We get tai-chi over leotard-stretching ladies and cute-sey scavenger hunt ploys from a young Thomas.
Dave and Andrew, their mics wide open because it's time for Darmok! on this all-new episode of ST:TNGeez . . . Season 5 is in full gear as we reach one of the all time classic episodes! The Enterprise D is dispatched to take another swing at establishing communications with the Children of Tama, aka the Tamarians. Seems like previous attempts have failed, so why not send the man who schooled the Sheliak? Remember what a pain in the ass they were? Things get off to a rough start as neither side seems to understand the other. Then the Tamarians kidnap PIcard and send him planetside along with their own captain, who offers Picard a sharp blade and a smile. Captain and crew are seriously befuddled. Is this meant to be a captain-on-captain brawl ala Kirk vs. the Gorn? Or maybe some sort of group whittling project? Who knows? Certainly not Commander Riker and the rest of the crew who race to find a way to rescue Picard without starting a war. Will Data and Troi break the code and figure out how to communicate with the Tamarians? Will Geordi and Worf find a way to penetrate the field that prevents them from rescuing Picard? Is the bridge that chilly that Picard needs to wear a jacket indoors? Find out in this exciting episode of ST:TNGeez, Not Another Star Trek Podcast.Even more available at: https://tngeez.com

Ever wanted to see TNG turn into a mindless action franchise? Yeah, neither did we, but here we are anyway. It's “Star Trek: Nemesis” on this very special episode of ST:TNGeez, Not Another Star Trek Podcast, and it's coming at you right about . . . NOW!The final frontier is reached at last as we enjoy this final “Next Generation” motion picture extravaganza! In an unexpected maneuver, the newly ascended praetor of the Romulan Empire requests a visit from the Enterprise E! Picard hightails it to the Romulan homeworld without the common courtesy of dropping off the newlywed Troi and Riker. What could be so pressing as to lead our classy captain to commit such a faux pas? How about a coup that places the mysterious Shinzon in the role of predator of the empire backed by his equally mysterious Reman “brothers”? (Are there any female Remans? If so, where are they?) The command crew beams down to Shinzon's goth palace for a chat, and as a welcome gift, Shinzon offers some of his blood. Sounds gross until Bev analyzes the blood to discover that Shinzon is a clone of Jean-Luc! (Which is still gross, but at least there's a point to it, kinda.)Meanwhile, the Enterprise just happens to stumble onto yet another Soong-type android scattered across a desert planet. Picard drags Worf and Data on a dune buggy ride to retrieve the bits and reassemble them into an android that looks just like Data. They deduce it's a prototype that just happens to be named . . . B-4. Seriously. That's its name. It has the brain of a Pakled and a jumpsuit to match. Seems they don't make clones the way they used to. But things kick into gear when Shinzon begins to implement his master plan involving the deadly Thalaron radiation! How is B-4 linked to Shinzon and his master plan? What is his master plan anyway? Why does he need Picard's blood so badly? Why is his suit so tight? (that has to chafe!) Do they not have dentists on Romulus? It's Halloween time again! Put on your sexy Star Trek costume and make sure you're fully in control of your faculties because you might not be entirely you in there! This time, our Casual Explorers decided to explore some of the many psychic and or energy beings who can just pop inside your flesh and blood as easy as a pair of boots. In Enterprise's ‘Observer Effect,' Trip and Hoshi get sick off Klingon rubbish while Travis and Reed get possessed by one very eager energy being and one who is basically #quietquitting, in Deep Space Nine's ‘The Assignment,' O'Brien's life is once more a living hell when his wife gets taken over by the Pah'Wraiths and Rom struggles to make friends at work and finally, we round it off with our main event, Dr. Beverly Crusher's adventures with sex-ghosts who live in candles ‘Sub Rosa' and Charlie and Miles find themselves watching one of Star Trek's worst-ranked episodes and ask the most important question, 'Do the Scottish know there's a Scotland in Space?' Honestly, it's much more fun to watch Troi get heavily involved in talking about Crusher's sex dreams than it ever is to have to engage in discussions on the ethics of terrorism as we did last episode. If you or anyone else is showing signs of possession, please don't come to us for help, Google it. Or ask us on Ko-Fi.Episodes Discussed: Observer Effect (12:25), The Assignment (42:12) and Sub Rosa (01:13:40)SHOW NOTES: The FULL English Breakfast, Miles forgot to do his Crypt-Keeper Schtick this Halloween, he also has opinions on the Halloween series of films, the Leprechaun films, Legend of Zelda Echoes of Wisdom, Jailhouse Rock's surprising appearance on the charts and a quick diversion into British music magazine the NME, Let Me Love You is possibly the WORST song we've had to listen to for the show (you win this round, Sheeran!) Miles admits to his dark past as a ‘Nice Guy' The Andromeda Strain, You gotta feel sorry for Klingon Plumbers, quiet-quitting Energy Beings, the Organians have gone all The Good Place with their criteria for success, how this would have ended if this were either an episode of The Twilight Zone or The Outer Limits, the Spice Girls, Charlie DOES know songs that weren't featured on Rock Band thank you very much, Miles takes a break from bitching about Starbucks to bitch about the Hilton, Deep Space Nine and Babylon 5 are ripping each-other, Bashir and O'Brien being sitcom scamps, Rom trying to make friends, ‘Things can Only Get Better' is a song that'll forever be thought as an anthem for Neo-Liberal malaise, Sunshine, Charlie recommends a horror film,Scream, Bryan Adams, Sting & Rod Stewart as alternate Three Musketeers, Have YOU ever told a boss about a sexual fantasy? Marina Sirtis' accent slips a lot, ‘The Innocents', Charlie's RPG of the week ‘The Between,' would Ronin have had to seduce Wesley Crusher? Despite it's female audience Star Trek always has a Male Gaze on the Cosmos, SF complaining about romance and sexuality, the SCOTTISH PLANET, the fact there's a church leads us to wonder if the Abrahamic Religions are still practised and worshipped in the often-secular Star Trek, consent in ‘Sub Rosa' comparing to consent in ‘Plato's Stepchildren,'PEDANTS CORNER: It's Busta Rhymes who kung-fu'd Michael Myers in Halloween Resurrection, The Defiant actually came first with Deep Space Nine's Season 3 in 1994 Babylon 5 introduced the White Star in Season 3 in 1995. Although, when talking about Doctor Who, I didn't think to consider that some of the more legitimate arguments against the Doctor being more sexual as a being has felt like the show's Ace-Erasure to fans who see the Doctor as an all-too-rare example of positive Asexual Representation)Casual Trek is by Charlie Etheridge-Nunn and Miles Reid-LobattoMusic by Alfred Etheridge-NunnCasual Trek is a part of the Nerd & Tie Networkhttps://ko-fi.com/casualtrekMiles' blog: http://www.mareidlobatto.wordpress.com Charlie's blog: http://www.fakedtales.com

The Forsaken (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (DS9), S1 E17) was recommended by Rugger (They/them), who said: The Forsaken has its problems as an episode, including that Troi's advances are uncomfortable to watch. But in all of Trek, there is no more emotionally raw, powerful, and moving scene than in The Forsaken. Odo and Lwaxwana are stuck in the elevator, and Odo has to revert into his natural liquid state—and he has to trust Lwaxana to do it.This is Trek at its best: taking something fundamentally alien and using it to humanize a character. Almost every other time an alien evokes such pathos, they are being human—as Kirk says of Spock, "he was the most human."Odo's character arc is one of the best in Trek, and this episode starts it off with the most unique, iconic, and moving scene that I can think of in all sci-fi, while also developing a a character who was previously only comedic relief. The Forsaken first aired on January 18, 1993, written by story by Jim Trombetta, teleplay by Don Carlos Dunaway and Michael Piller, and directed by Les LandauThe Federation ambassador from Betazed, Lwaxana Troi, visits the station, and develops an affection for Odo. Meanwhile, data from a mysterious Gamma Quadrant probe causes system failures on DS9.The Joy of Trek is hosted by Khaki & Kay, with editing & production by Chief Engineer Greg and music by Fox Amoore (Bandcamp | Bluesky)Send us your recommendations, or support us on Patreon.Find us at joyoftrek.com · Twitter · Facebook
The mother-in-law all of us fear but none of us deserve drops in to the local DOOM level in "The Forsaken". Between the half baked A and C plots, you know an episode is bad when the Lwaxana Troi is the best part. Is the Odo backstory worth the price of admission? Come find out!
Counselor Troi wakes up as a Romulan and must immediately become badass or die. You see, she's been benevolently kidnapped by a Romulan friend of Spock's ... kind of. Meanwhile on the Enterprise, a traitor of the Federation who had defected to Romulus, comes back to deliver a message. They've got to go to some coordinates for a very important delivery. Troi verbally duels with Commander Toreth of the Romulan ship, and together they slay Bechdel in a Test of Tense Space Combat. Troi's best episode, which is something to celebrate. Phantasms | Prophecy | CovenantThings we can all agree on: LeVar Burton is a wonderful actor and not a great reader. Tom Paris continues to be as dogshit as that cake Troi gave to Data this week. We've got legit Skrain strain now and we can't see that guy anymore.Brother Date! Resolved!

The Naked Now (Star Trek: The Next Generation, S1 E03) was recommended by Traci Meek-Reid (she/her) (your accents are delightful- go for your life!), who said: When I was 7, one night the TV just "stopped". We all went "huh" and went off to do other things. And then 5 years later the VCR landed in our home, TV was restored, and I discovered this bright, technicolor world that came on after the Saturday morning cartoons. Star Trek! I was hooked. 2 years later, Star Trek: The Next Generation launched. I watched the premiere and after the trailer for the next episode played, I ran through the house excitedly shouting "They're doing the Naked Time! They're doing the Naked Time! With no further ado, I nominate TNG's "The Naked Now": it acknowledges its roots, it ruthlessly exposes Captain Picard and Doctor Crusher (and Riker, Troi, Data, and Yar) as the star crossed lovers/relentless horndogs that they are, and shows that space is for EVERYONE, even 14-year old kids like Wesley Crusher. And me. Because as much as I loved the dystopian depression pill delivered by "Blade Runner", 14 year old me needed hope for a future. "The Naked Now" proved that Star Trek and its themes are eternal and are not bound by one cast, one era, or one man's vision. I joyfully welcome each new iteration of Star Trek and still run through the house screaming with glee when they drop a reference to an old show. This universe is big enough for everybody. The Naked Now first aired on October 5, 1987, written by story by John D. F. Black & D. C. Fontana, teleplay by D. C. Fontana, and directed by Paul LynchThe Joy of Trek is hosted by Khaki & Kay, with editing & production by Chief Engineer Greg and music by Fox Amoore (Bandcamp | Bluesky)Send us your recommendations, or support us on Patreon.Find us at joyoftrek.com · Twitter · Facebook

It's a mid-season two-parter! Let's jump into an extremely important episode full of editing choices and amazing performances around the horn. Captain Jericho is a real sociopath, and he takes over the Enterprise as Picard, Worf, and Crusher train in secret for the secret mission involving Cardashians. Riker's beard is bristling, Geordi is flabbergasted at Jellico's changes, and Crusher is gassed from running through caves. Captain Jellicle Cat insults Riker straight to Picard's face, then tells Troi to put on a proper uniform when she tells Jellico to cool it down with the crew. The mission goes off, with Picard telling them they are infiltrating a Cardassian weapons lab. It's a trap, and Picard is captured. TO BE CONTINUED. A delightfully complex theme by Jesse Goldberg, cleverly finessing the rule that the answer to a clue should not appear in the clue. Highly original and entertaining, we approve and thereby bestow a full 5 squares on the JAMCR scale.Deets inside.Remember when listening to this podcast, if you have not solved the puzzle yourself, it is easier to follow along with xwordinfo.com, where you can find the solved puzzle. Wagon Train to the stars, INDEED! Worf gets cajoled into playing cowboy with Alexander in the holodeck program he wrote with Barclay (who's mentioned but doesn't appear.) Troi gets in on the fun as the mysterious stranger, but then it all goes wonky when Datas start breaking the computer systems all over the ship. Crusher's play gets corrupted by Data's poem, Picard's flute music sucks, and cat food is in all the replicators. Cat food? This Western-themed holodeck-gone-wrong episode is also a slice-of-life one, too. As a model, actor, and serial entrepreneur, Troi Hughes emphasizes that his influence goes beyond the camera, playing a key role in shaping the stories of brands and companies looking for growth.
Data reads poetry, and Riker is sleepy as fuck! Clicking aliens, this episode is heavy on the horror side of genre. The fishmonks are assholes and have been stealing crewmembers of the Enterprise away from this dimension. We follow Riker's perspective, but it's happening to Geordi, Worf, and that other lady, too. To figure it all out, Troi takes them into the holodeck where they recreate from memory together where they've been abducted to. The climax is a bit of a disappointment, but the premise of Schisms is solid. Just make sure you stay awake for the end of the poetry reading. And though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend, I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend. Get in touch with us on BlueSky @ReEngageTNG.bsky.social! When Commander Harkins forces Barclay to take a week off, he follows Troi on vacation and realizes he's been suspicious of his ex. But when a completely different Barcláy materializes on Voyager, the crew takes a more trust than verify approach and barely escapes a Ferengi lobe-enlargement plot. What is the mistletoe of the body? Which book should Star Trek publish next? Does Voyager need an additional staff policy? It's the episode that's too titillating for UPN!Support the production of The Greatest Generation.Friends of DeSoto for Democracy.Friends of DeSoto for Justice.
