Throwing La Crosse DA Gruenke scenarios about politics in law and the courts, plus Kendhammer murder appeal

A interesting and fun show with La Crosse County District Attorney Tim Gruenke, where we threw him some scenarios that are happening or could happen in regards to the courts, law and relating that to politics. Some of it had to deal with the Donald Trump trial, another with a Wisconsin judge possibly needing to recuse himself, plus some local scenarios where that might happen — like a La Crosse judge flying a Black Lives Matters or Blue Lives Matters flag outside their home. We also discussed juries in the Trump trial, the La Crosse Todd Kendhammer murder trial and the West Salem quarry triple homicide trial. Sticking with Kendhammer, we talked about a Thursday decision coming from the Court of Appeals on the 2017 conviction that he killed his wife. Gruenke is up for election in November, but he doesn't have an opponent. That's a trend throughout all 72 Wisconsin counties. Why? We also talked about that. Lastly, I went back to traffic and dashcams conversation from last week. Should people have them? If your own dashcam catches you doing something illegal, what do you do?See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Do you remember that infamous scene from the movie Final Destination with the logs in the back of the truck that become loose, fall off the truck bed, and kill the person in the car driving behind it? It's horrific — the stuff that nightmares are made of. The story of Todd Kendhammer begins with a total freak accident that is far too similar. At first, the accident that killed his wife Barbara Kendhammer appeared to be a total fluke, however, when investigators took a closer look, not everything was as it looked.Sources:https://lacrossetribune.com/news/local/photos-kendhammer-case-investigation/collection_8cb8871b-fbf1-5eff-b47d-ffdeeb169a4f.html https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4110534/Wisconsin-husband-accused-staging-wife-s-murder.html?fbclid=IwAR0aBZRSuPtGW1IFwV8mz0O_3aGUtReBJZyp0w900bJspUVpnEzyazmHX44https://wildabouttrial.com/trial-coverage/todd-kendhammer/The Ryan Samuels ShowModern-day politics discussion and analysis. Todd Kendhammer. September 16th, 2016. West Salem, Wisconsin. A man and his wife drive out early one morning so that he can take a look at a truck that had a cracked windshield. He said that he was asked to repair it. On the way, though, tragedy strikes. His wife of 25 years is gravely injured when a 53" galvanized steel pipe from a passing truck on the highway flies off and strikes her through the windshield. She will die the next day from her injuries. The husband seems helpful and assists investigators. But as they look to match his statements against the evidence they discover that Todd Kendhammer doesn't seem to be telling them the truth about what happened to his wife Barbara.

Brandon Kendhammer takes a fresh approach to the juxtaposition of Islam and democracy in his latest book, Muslims Talking Politics: Framing Islam, Democracy and Law in Northern Nigeria (University of Chicago Press, 2016). Rather than employing a top-down approach to understanding Islam’s compatibility with democracy, Kendhammer chose to speak with blue-collar, working-class Muslims in cities across Northern Nigeria. Through this approach, Kendhammer exposes the pragmatic views of ordinary citizens more concerned with economic stability than jihadist rhetoric. As the political situation gets more violent and the idea of democracy more remote in Nigeria, Kenhammer offers a viewpoint of deep understanding for the complex situation. Based upon hundreds of conversations with ordinary citizens, he sketches a picture of how Islam and democracy can, and often is, reconciled in the neighborhoods and marketplaces of urban Nigeria’s centers, where Christians and Muslims live side-by-side. It is in the daily political and social negotiations that the way forward can be seen. However, with the increasingly violent acts of Boko Haram, it seems that the ordinary voices are being lost to unwavering religious rhetoric. While this books only tackles Northern Nigeria, the themes and lessons can be extended into the larger Muslim world grappling with the possibility of fitting Islamic values into a democratic state.
