Prize Greed and the Abandonment of Barnard Guest: Eric Jay Dolin Charles Barnard offered the British castaways a humanitarian deal: rescue them in exchange for salvaging the Isabella. This accord was shattered when HMS Nancy, commanded by Lieutenant William Peter D'Aranda, arrived. D'Aranda, seeking personal fame, immediately disregarded the agreement, prioritizing personal financial gain through the prize system, which was widely viewed as "semi-piracy." D'Aranda seized the Nanina as a prize and declared the Americans prisoners of war. Crucially, D'Aranda callously abandoned Barnard and four others (including three British) who were ashore hunting food for the entire group. Marooned for 534 days, Barnard's survival hinged on the help of his dog, Cent, who was vital for hunting powerful, four-tusked wild boars.

In this powerful episode, we dig into the heartbreaking story of Logan Federico — and the shocking failures in South Carolina's criminal justice system that helped create it. With 70 charges and 25 felony convictions, Alexander Dickey should have been behind bars. Instead, a system of repeat suspended sentences and political cronyism kept him free, leading to devastating consequences. We break down how South Carolina's legislature-controlled judicial appointments have created one of the nation's most lenient environments for violent offenders, why “Republicans” are appointing liberal judges, and how big law firms profit from this revolving door of justice. We'll also look at the explosive aftermath of a judge's $1.5 million Edisto Island home being destroyed — and the media's rush to paint it as a “MAGA attack.” Coming up at 8:00, you'll hear directly from Logan Federico's father, whose testimony before Congress has gripped the nation. This is a story about corruption, heartbreak, and why South Carolina's justice system needs reform now.

In this conversation, Rhonda shares how fear is as smart, emotional, and spiritual as you are — and how to break free from its grip.

A predawn emergency call launches police into the heart of a wealthy Washington, North Carolina neighborhood where they discover an unimaginable scene. Leith Von Stein, a prominent local executive, lies murdered in his bed – his body bearing the marks of a savage attack with multiple head wounds and stab wounds to his chest and back. His wife Bonnie, critically injured but alive, whispers about a dark figure with a baseball bat and knife. The crime scene immediately raises questions. Blood spatters the walls and ceiling of the master bedroom, yet the teenage daughter sleeping just down the hall claims to have heard nothing. A broken window suggests a break-in, but valuable items remain untouched throughout the house. The staged appearance of the scene and the peculiar calm of family members trigger the investigators' instincts that this is no ordinary home invasion. When Detective Sergeant Melvin Hope interviews the Von Steins' daughter Angela, he's struck by her emotional detachment – a stark contrast to her brother Chris's seemingly performative grief when he arrives from college. "Chris was really trying to appear grief-stricken but he wasn't quite making it. It was almost like he was going for an Emmy," Hope later recalls. As medical teams work to save Bonnie's life, investigators begin piecing together the truth behind this brutal attack, suspecting that the most dangerous threats may have come from within the family's own walls.Step into the shocking investigation of the Von Stein murder case, where appearances are deceiving and the peaceful facade of an affluent neighborhood masks a chilling reality. Follow detectives as they navigate bloody crime scenes, suspicious behavior, and family secrets to uncover who would want this prominent businessman dead – and why they would strike with such savage intensity.Send us a text Support the show

A whispered plea for help in the dead of night unravels a chilling tale of betrayal, resentment, and deadly consequences in Washington, North Carolina. July 25, 1988 began as any other sultry summer night in this sleepy riverside town, where crime rarely disrupts the gentle pace of life. But at 4:24 AM, dispatcher Michelle Sparrow received a desperate call from Bonnie Von Stein, her voice barely audible: "This is an emergency...my husband may be dying and I may be dying too." What first responders discovered at 110 Lawson Road, in the town's most affluent neighborhood, was a scene of unimaginable brutality that would shatter the community's sense of security forever. The Von Steins appeared to have everything – a beautiful home, financial security, and plans for the future now that their children were approaching college age. Leith Von Stein had recently inherited over $1.2 million from his parents, allowing him to contemplate early retirement from a job he never truly enjoyed. But beneath this veneer of prosperity lay complex family dynamics, particularly between Leith and his stepson Chris Pritchard. Despite Leith's attempts to win Chris's affection through expensive gifts like a classic Mustang, their relationship remained strained. The weekend before the attack, Chris had visited unexpectedly, engaged in an uncomfortable confrontation about drug use, then abruptly returned to NC State claiming he had an urgent paper due. What initially appeared to be a home invasion would gradually reveal itself as something far more calculated and personal. Through meticulous investigation of Bonnie's description of the "shadow" who attacked them in their sleep, the peculiar timing of Chris's visit, and the family's newly acquired wealth, detectives began piecing together a narrative more disturbing than anyone could have imagined. This case examines how inheritance, family resentment, and opportunity can combine with devastating consequences, proving that sometimes the greatest threats come not from strangers, but from those closest to us.Subscribe to follow this investigation as we uncover the shocking truth behind one of North Carolina's most notorious crimes, where a family's darkest secrets ultimately led to murder.Send us a text Support the show

Police Shooting Myths Shattered: From His Own Story. Special Episode. When it comes to policing in America, myths often dominate the public conversation. Many believe law enforcement officers are “trigger happy,” quick to fire their weapons at the first sign of danger. Others assume that trauma only takes its toll after decades in uniform. But as former Roswell, Georgia police officer John Saporsky explains, both assumptions couldn't be further from the truth. The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast promoted across their Facebook , Instagram , LinkedIn , Medium and other social media platforms. In a candid conversation shared on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and streaming on Apple and Spotify, Saporsky speaks openly about the Police Shooting Myths Shattered, From His Own Story. His journey highlights the danger, recovery, career, and experience that shaped his life both in and beyond law enforcement. He is the guest on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast, available for free on their website, on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and most podcast platforms. Early Career and Trauma in Georgia “People think trauma comes late in a career, but mine started early,” Saporsky says. As a young officer with the Roswell Police Department in Georgia, he faced situations that most officers never experience in their entire careers. From a near-death experience in a traffic accident involving a stolen police car to brake failure in a high-speed pursuit, Saporsky's early days in uniform were filled with life-threatening moments. Look for supporting stories about this and much more from Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast in platforms like Medium , Blogspot and Linkedin . He recalls a terrifying incident with brake fade, a dangerous reduction in braking ability caused by overheating. “When the brakes failed, it could have been fatal. Those are the moments the public never sees,” he explains. Police Shooting Myths Shattered: From His Own Story. Special Episode. And then there were the shootings. Saporsky was directly involved in critical incidents that tested his judgment and courage. Research from the National Police Foundation underscores just how rare such experiences are. In a study of 1,006 police shootings across 47 departments, four out of five officers had never fired their weapons in the line of duty before. Saporsky's encounters placed him in the small percentage who had. Available for free on their website and streaming on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other podcast platforms. Shattering Police Shooting Myths Saporsky emphasizes that officers are not eager to use deadly force. “Most of us hope we'll never have to fire our weapon,” he says. “When it does happen, it changes you forever.” By sharing his story, he aims to dismantle the stereotype that police officers are reckless or insensitive in dangerous situations. Instead, he highlights the human side of danger and recovery—the side the public rarely hears about in the evening news or viral social media debates. Life After Policing After years of service, Saporsky decided to transition out of law enforcement. But stepping away from the badge wasn't simple. “Leaving the profession can feel like losing your identity,” he reflects. Police Shooting Myths Shattered: From His Own Story. The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast episode is available for free on their website , Apple Podcasts , Spotify and most major podcast platforms. That personal struggle led him to create Law Enforcement Connect LLC in 2021, a platform designed to help officers transition into civilian life and new careers. “Like military veterans, law enforcement professionals face unique challenges. They need guidance, resources, and a community that understands,” Saporsky says. Through interviews with veterans, business leaders, psychologists, and researchers, Saporsky developed a framework for career transition that goes beyond simple job searches. His mission is to coach, mentor, and connect officers who are moving from service to civilian life. Roswell Police Department's Legacy Saporsky credits much of his professional foundation to his time with the Roswell Police Department, which is known for its focus on community policing and public safety. With a population of nearly 93,000, Roswell is one of Georgia's safest cities and continues to embrace the principles of 21st Century Policing and Procedural Justice. The full podcast episode is streaming now on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and across Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. “The men and women I served with were dedicated, professional, and deeply committed to the community,” Saporsky notes. “I'll always carry those lessons with me.” Police Shooting Myths Shattered: From His Own Story. From Trauma to Purpose Today, Saporsky uses his platform to speak openly about his experiences and to encourage others to do the same. His story resonates across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and beyond. “Police officers don't just need to survive the dangers of the job,” he says. “They need to thrive after it. That's why I share my story, because myths need to be shattered, and real stories need to be heard.” The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast promoted across their Facebook , Instagram , LinkedIn , Medium and other social media platforms. Partition—the rapid, uncoordinated, and bloody split between India and Pakistan after the Second World War—remains the central event of South Asian history. But 1947 wasn't the only partition, according to historian and filmmaker Sam Dalrymple. Sam, in his book Shattered Lands: Five Partitions and the Making of Modern Asia (William Collins, 2025), notes that “British India” once spanned all the way from the Arabian Peninsula to the border with Thailand, covering South Arabia, South Asia and Burma. Yet between 1937 and 1971, the region split into various different national entities, creating the countries and borders we see today. Sam is a historian, filmmaker, and cofounder of Project Dastaan, a peacebuilding initiative that reconnects refugees displaced by the 1947 partition of India. Where Mickey Mouse and fairy tales fracture minds, programming victims for elite control. Cathy O'Brien lived this nightmare as a Project Monarch slave under CIA's MK-Ultra, enduring abuse from presidents, senators, and Hollywood icons. In this episode, she exposes how trauma-based mind control shattered her psyche, using Disney films and parks as hypnotic tools.
