In 1976, nine French wine judges did the unthinkable: they blindly selected two California wines over France's most elite vintages in what became known as the Judgment of Paris. This shocking upset sent shockwaves through the wine world and forever changed the global industry. French wine had dominated for centuries, built on a rigid classification system and prestigious terroir, but California winemakers like Warren Winiarski of Stag's Leap and Mike Grgich of Chateau Montelena proved that world-class wines could be produced anywhere with the right combination of climate, soil, and expertise. The tasting was organized by British expat Steven Spurrier, who ran a Paris wine shop and saw the American Bicentennial as a perfect marketing opportunity—but neither he nor the lone reporter in attendance, George Taber of Time magazine, expected California to actually win. Today's guest is Kevin Ferguson, author and grandson of legendary winemaker Mario Gemello, who ran the Gemello Winery in Mountain View, California for nearly half a century. Ferguson shares the immigrant roots of California's wine industry, including how a $190 loan from the Beltramo family allowed his great-grandfather to bring his family from Piedmont, Italy to America. He discusses the legacy of working-class winemakers like his grandfather, whose 1970 Cabernet finished first in the 25th anniversary re-enactment of the Judgment of Paris, and explores how wineries like Ridge—founded by retired SRI engineers—brought scientific precision to the Santa Cruz Mountains. As we approach the 50th anniversary events in 2026, Ferguson reveals how this single tasting transformed California from an upstart curiosity into a world-class wine region that continues to rival the best of France.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Why were the women the most enthusiastic donors to the Mishkan? And why were they rewarded with the holiday of Rosh Chodesh? In this shiur, delivered in TVA, Rav Burh explores the deeper spiritual difference between the Golden Calf and the Mishkan, between despair that demands immediate certainty and faith that can live through hiddenness. Through the symbolism of mirrors, the moon, and the power of renewal, we uncover the unique strength of those who can believe in redemption even when the light has nearly disappeared.

SHE HAD THE SUCCESS… THE MONEY… THE HOUSE… THE CAR… AND THEN IT ALL VANISHED. What happened next will shake every entrepreneur, leader, and parent who thinks success alone will satisfy. In this raw, soul-stirring episode of Level Up + Live, host Sean Meyers sits down with May Adams, a faith-driven entrepreneur, mother of three, author, and business strategist who helps women break limiting beliefs and rise into their God-given calling. But this conversation isn't the typical “success story.” It's the story behind the success… the crushing… and the rebuilding. May opens up about the moment everything changed, when she realized climbing the ranks, building teams, and chasing “worldly success” had left something missing deep inside. Then the unimaginable happened: success collapsed, money disappeared, and everything she thought defined her was stripped away. The house? Gone. The financial security? Gone. The identity built on achievement? Shattered. But what came out of the fire was something far more powerful. Inside this unforgettable conversation, May and Sean unpack: Why delayed obedience can cost you everything The hidden danger of building success on pride instead of purpose What it really means when life forces you into the “pain cave” Why God sometimes strips away comfort to build character How entrepreneurs can shift from empty achievement to purpose-driven leadership May shares how losing everything ultimately gave her the one thing she didn't have before: clarity, conviction, and unshakable faith. This episode will challenge how you think about success, leadership, business, parenting, and the journey toward becoming the person you were truly created to be. If you've ever felt successful on the outside but empty on the inside… If you've ever wondered why life keeps forcing you through hard seasons… Or if you're ready to turn your test into a testimony… Press play now, because sometimes the greatest breakthrough only comes after everything falls apart. From the Raiders resetting the center market with a historic $81 million check to the Chiefs securing a Super Bowl MVP in Kenneth Walker III, the opening 24 hours of the legal tampering period were nothing short of legendary. But while some teams were playing chess, others seemed to be playing a completely different game.In today's episode, we're recapping the biggest shockwaves from Day 1 and diving deep into the teams that I think should have taken a different path:Some teams had a chance to completely reshape their roster and decided not too. Some teams might have overpaid for potential. Some potential red flagsStill a lot of time for some of these teams to turn it around.

Hit play for raw, hilarious, zero-filter comeback gold — and yes, the Ron the Waiter drama is next. Welcome back, bitches.

In this episode of Empowered Through Compassion, I speak with Brooke Kekos, trauma recovery mentor, clinical hypnotherapist, NLP practitioner, and author of Shattered, Broken, & Beautiful: Losing My Religion and Finding Faith. Brooke was raised in a third-generation Jehovah's Witness family and shares her courageous journey of leaving a high-control religious environment and breaking free from patterns of emotional and relational abuse. Our conversation explores religious trauma, identity loss, nervous system dysregulation, and the long, layered process of reclaiming self-trust. Brooke reflects on moving from indoctrination and shame toward autonomy, integration, and spiritual awakening on her own terms. What makes this conversation so powerful is Brooke's authenticity. She holds a deep honesty and a profound hope. We talk about how high-control systems shape belief and how healing begins with trusting your inner wisdom. Brooke beautifully describes change as “planting seeds,” in others to help them have space for their own inner truth. In this way, we can help others reclaim their radical and beautiful authenticity.
March 1, 2026Today's Reading: Matthew 15:21-28Daily Lectionary: Genesis 16:1-9, 15-17:22; Mark 6:1-13“And [Jesus] answered, ‘It is not right to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs.'” (Matthew 15:26)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.Jesus calls her what?!? A dog! What many Jews labeled the Canaanites! Looks like a roadblock! A wall! This mommy doesn't slink away, though, with her tail between her legs. Not defeated. What appears to be a pure “NO”, she hears as a “NO” that has a “YES” inside. A hidden “YES”! “Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table.” (Matthew 15:27) “Ain't nothing but a hound dog!”Fine with her because even the dogs are family! Canaanites are part of Jesus' family tree. Rahab! Tamar! Ruth! Jew AND Gentile included in Jesus' Salvation Mission from day one! She believes that. Jesus is for her, even when everything says otherwise. She won't let Him go until she's proven right. And she is! She goes on her journey back home with His “for you” Word in her pocket! “O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire.” (Matthew 15:28) Jesus doesn't disappoint! Brings her beyond the wall, and she returns home not the same. Stretched! Surprised! Severed! Jesus stretched her to the breaking point, so she finds help and hope in Him alone. Jesus surprised her with growth, enlarging her heart to wait on Him alone. Jesus severed her from all attachments and allegiances that she feared, loved, and trusted, so He became her God and Lord alone! She expects walls ahead, but she can trust Jesus at every wall. He'll bring her through. We'll have those moments where it's like we're on the autobahn of faith—cruising along and making the lights. Getting to our destinations. Sure, a few hiccups, but nothing horrible. Then one day, we slam the brakes. We only see red. Stopped! Stuck! What a standstill! All our plans thrown out the window. A wall before us. Can't get around it, over it, under it. What a wall! The wall comes in many shapes and sizes. Parents separate! Betrayed by friends! Shattered dreams! Failed a class! Cut from the team! A beloved family member dies! When we run up against the wall, we're confused. “Jesus loves me this I know!”Really? Jesus doesn't seem warm and friendly. No matter the wall, though, we cling to Jesus like this mommy. We trust Him at the wall. After all, on the Cross, He confronted all the walls we could ever run up against. And on Easter, He walked out of the Grave. Alive and well! The way through has been paved and paid! The journey of faith has begun, and Jesus will bring us through every wall. Not the same either. And certainly not alone. We're surrounded by one another. And Jesus leads the way. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.Through long grief-darkened days help us, dear Lord, To trust Your grace for courage to endure, To rest our souls in Your supporting love, And find our hope within Your mercy sure. Richard Heinz, pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lowell, IN.Finally Free: Three Lessons in the Parable of the Prodigal Sonby Bryan WolfmuellerWe wander through life looking for freedom, only to realize we have listened to the devil's call to serve our selves, our pleasures, and our lusts. Instead of freedom we find ourselves enslaved to sin. We wonder if we have sinned too often, too deep to ever be welcomed back to the Father's home, back into His loving embrace. Have we lost our inheritance as children of God?In this short book, author Bryan Wolfmueller digs into the popular parable of the Prodigal Son to bring hope and aid to our hurting conscience. Wolfmueller proclaims the freedom-giving Gospel that through Jesus' suffering, death, and resurrection, our place in the Father's house is secure, and forgiveness and welcome are ours in His outstretched arms. I would love to hear from you! Send me a one way text and share how Recover Your Soul is supporting you or what you would like to hear more about. As I prepare for the release of my memoir, Recover Your Soul: A Spiritual Journey of Healing from Addiction, Codependency, and People-Pleasing, on April 13th, I have been going back and listening to past podcast episodes that might offer additional support to those reading the book.Revisiting these earlier episodes has been a tender experience. They were recorded during seasons of my own healing when everything was still fresh, when I was actively untangling old patterns in real time, when I was learning how to turn inward instead of reaching outward in pain. There is a rawness in them that feels honest and important. This episode on betrayal is one of those. It originally aired in 2023 from Season 4.Betrayal can take many forms. It is not only about infidelity. It can be secrecy. Addiction. Emotional withdrawal. Broken promises. The moment when something you believed to be true suddenly isn't. It can feel shattering. And yet, in the Recover Your Soul process, we gently shift the focus away from trying to fix, control, or punish the other person and instead turn toward our own healing. In this episode, I share parts of my personal story, including how early family dynamics shaped my understanding of loyalty and relationship, and how betrayal showed up in my own marriage. You will hear me navigating these ideas from an earlier place in my journey, still learning, still softening, still growing. What remains trJoin the community and Recover Your Soul with Rev Rachel.2026 is a big year offering GROUP COACHING, IN-PERSON RETREATS, and our FREE SUPPORT GROUP. Send a textWhen your life splits open, clarity can feel like a luxury. We sit down with Meg the Divorce Coach—single mom of three and strategist for people navigating separation—to map a steadier path: name what you truly want, rebuild confidence through self-trust, and decide whether to stay or go without bargaining away your worth. We start where most of us stall: desire. In crisis, it's easy to answer “what do you want?” with a reel of don'ts. Meg shares simple ways to reawaken preference—micro-experiments, borrowed ideas, and daily check-ins—so you stop scanning the past for safety and start building a future that fits. From there, we dig into confidence after sustained criticism. Meg's triad—kindness, trust, confidence—turns into practice with a two-minute mirror ritual that anchors pride and presence. We also name the harm of rigid gender roles and comparison, and how adding purpose outside the home can actually refill your parenting energy. The heart of our talk is a decision framework for marriage and divorce. Two questions lead: What do you think will be different if you leave? And does staying make it too hard to love yourself? We examine safety, patterns, and the truth that people show you who they are. Sometimes staying is growth; sometimes leaving is the ground where healing can happen. Either way, choose the hard that aligns with self-respect.Meg shares how she works: private coaching, free Tuesday consults, a monthly webinar for her email list, and content across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and her own podcast. www.megthedivorcecoach.com @megthedivorcecoach If you're navigating betrayal, separation, or a shaken identity, this conversation offers practical tools and a kind mirror. If this resonated, subscribe, share it with a friend who needs courage today, and leave a review so more people can find the show. The agreement signed at the end of January between Damascus and the Syrian Kurds dealt a blow to the dream of a greater Kurdistan. Our team reports from Syria and Iraq.
In this episode of The Grove Podcast, Shelley Giglio sits down with her dear friend and a long-time Grove girl, Courtney Pray Duke, to celebrate the release of Courtney's book And She Got Up : Shattered by Loss, Restored by Jesus and to trace the journey that shaped it. Courtney shares how everything changed in her life the day Andrew died in a bicycle accident — an instant that turned a bright day into “the darkest night of the soul.”With honesty and tenderness, Courtney recounts the disorienting fog of grief, the fight to keep going for her three young children, and the unexpected ways God met her in the lowest moments. From a pivotal encounter with God at Passion 2013 to the daily practice of anchoring her life in scripture, Courtney unpacks how faith can be tested in the fire — and how God's presence can become most real in the valley.Shelley and Courtney also talk about the power of community, learning to speak truth out loud, and the long obedience of writing the story down. Ultimately, this conversation is an invitation: if Jesus brought life to her story, He can bring life to yours too. And She Got Up releases on February 24, but you can pre-order your copy today. Dr. Michael Lake is joined by Dr. Mike Spaulding, Dr. Corby Shuey, and special guest Joe Horn (host of SkyWatch TV and author of Innocence Shattered: Dismantling the Insidious War Against Our Children) to equip believers to protect children from trafficking, abuse, grooming, and cultural deception. They expose how: Human trafficking and exploitation target the most vulnerable The foster care system can be abused and misused Pornography addiction in the church fuels demand for exploitation Schools, media, and culture are softening and rebranding evil (e.g., "minor-attracted persons") The erosion of biblical masculinity and the family leaves children unprotected But this conversation is not just about exposing darkness — it's about practical, hope-filled solutions so that parents, grandparents, pastors, and the remnant can actively keep children safe: How to pray strategically and stand in the gap How to get involved locally to protect kids in your community How ministries like Whispering Ponies Ranch and Royal Family Kids / For The Children bring healing to deeply traumatized children How restoring biblical family roles and strong, godly men creates safer homes and communities If you want to protect the lambs, guard your home, and see genuine revival that restores families and rescues children, this episode will equip and challenge you.

STAGNATION UNDER SURVEILLANCE Colleague Anne Stevenson-Yang, Wild Ride. The severe lockdowns of the COVID-19 pandemic shattered consumer confidence, leaving citizens insecure and unwilling to spend, which stalled economic recovery. Local governments, cut off from credit and burdened by debt, struggle to provide basic services. Faced with economic stagnation, Xi Jinping has rejected market liberalization in favor of increased surveillance and control, prioritizing regime security over resolving the structural debt crisis or restoring the dynamism of previous decades. NUMBER 8
THE TET OFFENSIVE AND THE SIEGE OF KHE SANH Colleague Geoffrey Wawro. In 1968, North Vietnamlaunched the Tet Offensive to deliver a knockout blow; while a military disaster for the communists, the televised breach of the US Embassy shattered American claims of progress and turned public opinion. Simultaneously, the siege of Khe Sanh symbolized the war's futility, as US forces fought fiercely to hold the base only to abandon and bulldoze it shortly after the battle concluded. These events led trusted figures like Walter Cronkite to declare the war a stalemate, convincing President Johnson that he had lost the support of middle America. NUMBER 12
Kay-Alana Turner's episodes first aired in November 2023. On March 9, 2023, 27-year-old Kay-Alana Turner left a friend's home in Silsbee, Texas, and began driving toward Austin, about four hours away, apparently to visit a friend. In the days leading up to March 9, Kay-Alana had not been sleeping well and did not seem quite like herself. In the early morning hours of March 10, witnesses in Hockley and Tomball, Texas, interacted with Kay-Alana after she asked if she could sleep in their driveways. By that time, her phone had died.Around 6 a.m., a homeowner in the Holly Creek Estates subdivision in Tomball noticed Kay-Alana's car parked in their driveway, with Kay-Alana asleep inside. The homeowner contacted someone from the homeowner's association and nearby neighbors. As several people gathered around the vehicle and attempted to wake her, Kay-Alana became frightened. When she tried to leave, her car was blocked. An officer from the Harris County Sheriff's Office then broke the driver's side window of her vehicle.Kay-Alana fled first by driving through a yard and across nearby farmland, then into a wooded area where her car became stuck. Deputies pursued her on foot. Kay-Alana ran into the woods, dropping her phone along the way and later removing her shoes, which were filled with glass from the broken window. In the days that followed, her loved ones compared accounts and came to believe that Kay-Alana had been experiencing a mental health crisis that night. Despite extensive searches of the area where she was last seen, no further trace of her was found beyond her phone and shoes. On April 19, 2024, after more than a year of searching, Kay-Alana Turner's remains were found by Texas Equusearch in Montgomery County, Texas, less than 1,000 feet from where her car had been abandoned on March 10, 2023. She was positively identified through dental records. Due to the condition of her remains, the medical examiner ruled the cause of death as undetermined, with the manner classified as accidental, noting no evidence of foul play.In the months that followed, body camera footage from Kay-Alana's initial encounter with Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies was released, sparking concern and controversy. In the footage, deputies were heard making joking and disparaging remarks about Kay-Alana, including comments about her appearance after viewing her identification. The footage intensified scrutiny of the response to Kay-Alana on the day she disappeared and raised broader questions about how law enforcement handles encounters involving individuals experiencing medical or mental health crises.Kay-Alana Turner was laid to rest in November 2024. Her family continues to seek accountability and hopes her story leads to meaningful change, believing that compassion and understanding could have made a critical difference that day.Photo Credit: James Blaign RamboIf you have a missing loved one that you would like to have featured on the show, please fill out our case submission form.Follow The Vanished on social media at:FacebookInstagramPatreonSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
