I approached Kelly Weger through a newsletter we both subscribe to - her bio was too intriguing to resist - and I wasn't disappointed at all! I want you to look carefully at her profile- I complimented her on her hair highlight color, and she said she just braids in YARN - genius! Natural fibers and low maintenance!Kelly was a LEED Certified Architect in her previous career, and now is the Head of Sustainability for a solar company. She also has written a book called How to Kill the Planet in 8 Easy Steps: A Humorous Guide by a Satirical Snarkitecht. The world feels very serious and heavy, and she chooses to use humor as a coping mechanism. She does public speaking, and talks about small behavior changes that add up to a big impact, and the future of climate change. Like this: She also said that we can push back against AI by opting out of AI searches. She said that a straight Google search uses 10 times less electricity than the AI Google search.A "bright side" that Kelly mentioned is that many companies have posted their sustainability goals with an end goal of 2030, which means they should be crunching on those goals to make progress... I did bend her ear for a bit, asking about recycling solar, and digital clutter - sorry, and you're welcome? It was helpful for me, at least...Learn ALL about Kelly here: https://kellyweger.weebly.com/Send me a message!Support the showLike this episode? Three Types of Rest for Managing Stress with Gary Ware [Re-release]

    Positively Living

Text your thoughts and questions! We often think rest is something we earn after we've worked hard enough. We push through exhaustion, tell ourselves we'll slow down later, and believe that getting more done is the key to feeling better. But what if we've been thinking about rest all wrong? This week, in episode 323 of the Positively LivingⓇ Podcast, we're revisiting one of our most impactful conversations with Gary Ware, founder of Breakthrough Play, keynote speaker, certified coach, and bestselling author of Playful Rebellion. As part of our summer series on energy, stress, and nervous system regulation, this timely re-release explores why rest is essential—not as a reward for productivity, but as the foundation that makes sustainable productivity possible.Gary Ware is the founder of Breakthrough Play, a keynote speaker, certified coach, and the bestselling author of Playful Rebellion. Through applied improvisation, positive psychology, and the science of play, Gary helps individuals and organizations reduce stress, strengthen communication, spark creativity, and build more sustainable ways of working. His mission is to help people challenge the belief that productivity requires constant hustle and instead embrace play and rest as powerful tools for greater impact, innovation, and well-being.In this conversation, Gary introduces three distinct types of rest—macro, micro, and meso—and explains how each one helps reduce stress, restore creativity, and support your energy in different ways. He also shares why play isn't childish, why entrepreneurs often resist rest the most, and how small shifts can dramatically improve your focus, well-being, and impact.Key Takeaways:Rest isn't something you earn. It's something that allows you to do your best work.Chronic stress keeps your brain in fight, flight, or freeze mode, reducing creativity, empathy, and clear thinking.Better sleep isn't always about getting more hours. Improving the quality of your sleep can make a significant difference.A consistent wind-down routine helps your body transition into restorative sleep.Macro rest focuses on deep restoration through quality sleep and recovery.Micro rest consists of short five-minute breaks throughout the day that help reset your brain and restore energy between tasks.Scrolling social media or checking email isn't true rest. Choose activities that genuinely recharge you instead.Meso rest means intentionally stepping away from work for several hours, a day, or longer to pursue hobbies, family time, or activities that bring joy.Hobbies aren't a luxury—they help your brain make creative connections and improve problem-solving.Play looks different for everyone. The goal isn't to do what others find fun, but to discover what genuinely restores and energizes you.Sustainable productivity begins with honoring your energy, not constantly pushing through exhaustion.Rest isn't the opposite of productivity—it's what makes productivity sustainable. When you give yourself permission to rest before you're completely depleted, you create space for greater creativity, better decisions, stronger relationships, and more meaningful work. What would change if you stopped trying to earn your rest and started treating it as one of your greatest strengths?Thank you for listening! The Moon pulls the tides of the ocean, but the question that won't let us go is simpler and stranger: what is it pulling in us? Melanie Reinhart joins me for a wide, grounded, moonlit ramble through lunar consciousness, astrology, and the body. We start with the moon as a constant companion for earthlings, a reliable rhythm of waxing and waning that can steady us when life feels politically, personally, and collectively turbulent. From there, we drop into somatic territory. We talk craniosacral therapy and the experience of “tides” in the system, from surface noise to the deeper mid tide and the long tide where time feels different. That becomes a living metaphor for the lunar path: not a heroic push to achieve, but a deepening that restores life force. We also bring in the Orphic Hymn to the Moon as an invocation practice and explore why reverence matters, not as an antique idea but as a way to relate to powers we still live inside. We get practical about moon phases too: the dark of the moon as a window for retreat, the full moon as an emotional amplifier, and how lunar timing can support better choices in work, conflict, learning, and creativity. We move into dreams as night-world digestion, why forcing interpretations can block the nourishment, and how light pollution mirrors a cultural forgetting of darkness, sleep, and imagination. If you care about the lunar cycle, dreamwork, depth psychology, the Jungian unconscious, or the roots of astrology in the night sky, this conversation is for you.*the above blurb was auto-generated by Buzzsprout's AI.Cover Artwork is The Fairy of the moon by Hermann Kaulbach (b&w) circa 1891 with a background extension from Canva. The Orphic Hymns including the one in this episode dedicated to the moon, and the invocation with Musaeus. It's the Thomas Taylor translation from 1792. Melanie's personal favourite.Find out more about Melanie and her work here. She has many great books including, famously, Chiron and the Healing Journey.Melanie reads from:Dane Rudhyar, The Lunation Cycle: A Key to the Understanding of Personality, from the section “The Pattern of the Lunation Cycle.”Rudolf Steiner, “In Pure Rays of Light” The verse appears in Esoteric Instructions (GA 264), with related commentary in an esoteric lesson of 5 December 1907 (GA 266/I).We discuss:Iain McGilchrist's book: The Master and his Emissary and associate right brain activity with the moon and left brain with Mercury.Jung, obviously, comes up a lot. I paraphrase this quotation from him.We also talk about the Tides in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy. If you'd like to know more about that the work of Franklyn Sills (may he rest in peace) is a good starting point.Clearing up the confusion of the 'far side' vs the 'dark side' of the moon we go to NASA...But always appreciative to Pink Floyd for creating such confusion but also such a cracking album.Melanie also mentions the Dark Sky Movement. Such important work. Have a look at darksky.org.We also acknowledge that "mentor" is not etymologically related to Mene or taurus. What we're engaging in during that section is a nice bit of folk etymology.Join the Newsletter!Podcast Musician: Marlia CoeurPlease consider becoming a Patron to support the show!Go to OnTheSoulsTerms.com for more.

Across China and the Chinese diaspora, digital spirituality is growing as users flock to online platforms seeking services to help with luck, love, and wealth. However, these spaces are also hotbeds for scammers, who prey on prey on loneliness, uncertainty, and cultural vulnerability to exploit hundreds if not thousands of people. In this episode, I do a deep dive to explore how post‑Mao moral crises, revived but fragmented spiritual practices, and China's low‑trust social environment have created fertile ground for spiritual conmen. We look at why victims often hide their experiences, how “face culture” and filial piety complicate intervention, and why enforcement struggles to keep up with an ever-evolving scene.Learn more about the Book Club hereSupport the show!Read my latest Substack postSupport the showSign up for Buzzsprout to launch your podcasting journey: https://www.buzzsprout.com/?referrer_id=162442Subscribe to the Sinobabble Newsletter: https://sinobabble.substack.com/Support Sinobabble on Buy me a Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/Sinobabblepod

Nobody likes thinking about death, but getting your finances in order now can make things much easier for the people you leave behind. To help with this, our favorite Bookkeeping Mensch, Paul Rosenblum, is here to explain the basics. He covers which debts are typically forgiven when someone dies, when an estate is responsible for paying what's owed, why family members usually aren't liable for debts they didn't co-sign, and how naming a beneficiary on a bank account can help avoid probate. It's a practical look at an uncomfortable topic that's worth planning for. Send us Fan MailSupport the showAbout the hostPaul Rosenblum has been doing hands-on bookkeeping for over 30 years, starting with QuickBooks Desktop and adapting to the world of cloud-based QuickBooks Online. He shares practical, in-the-weeds lessons from real client files every episode.

Anyone who knew me as a young person I think will have a giggle at this conversation with Toni Buzzeo, because I was terrified of pretty much all flying things - yes, chickens, too... I've been stung once, and I can tell you where it happened, and on what part of the body when I was around 8 years old. My sister is very much the same, but I'm much better than I used to be - working in a garden gives a person a lot of appreciation for their job.Toni Buzzeo spent many years in southern Maine - her husband built her a beautiful writing cottage there, and she wrote many of her books there. She has written 31 picture books, a novel, and 11 books for teachers. As a longtime Librarian, and college and High School writing teacher before that, Toni settled on writing, and is very happy there. Her most recent book is called Buzz: Being Brave Around Stinging Insects. Toni has young grandchildren, and she wanted them to not be afraid, but also to appreciate them for all that pollinators make happen in our world. Find everything about Toni at her website: https://tonibuzzeo.com/She's also on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/arlingtonnonna/Send me a message!Support the showLike this episode? The fastest way to derail a team is to lead on autopilot. Walk into a meeting, speak first, “set direction,” and watch everyone quietly align to your opinion, even when they see a better answer. Step back too far, though, and the same team can feel abandoned, unclear, or unsupported. That tension is exactly where Brad Semmens lives. Brad is the founder of Objective Consulting and Employee Yield, and he brings a rare mix of real-world leadership experience and organizational psychology to a framework he's developed called the Five Stances of Leadership. We dig into what it really means to step up, step down, step in, and step back and how those moves create an immediate power dynamic whether we intend it or not. Brad explains leadership through two practical lenses: authority (directive vs distributive) and influence (direct vs indirect). From there, we explore “leading from your center” as the skill that helps you shift from reactive protection to responsive presence, especially when pressure spikes and your default stance kicks in.One of the biggest takeaways is the difference between filling the space and holding the space. We talk about why some leaders accidentally crowd out ownership by solving too quickly, and how a simple pause plus better questions can unlock psychological safety, clearer thinking, and real accountability. We also get into how strengths can become weaknesses when overused, why complementary styles can either create conflict or balance, and how the “Swiss army knife” leader becomes truly adaptive. If you want a practical way to build self-awareness, take Brad's leadership assessment and reflect on your primary and stress stances. Subscribe, share this with a leader who needs a reset, and leave a review so more people can find the conversation.

Each touchpoint creates an opportunity for a customer impression. However, very few owners, or executives, have ever counted the number of touchpoints in an average transaction. With that said, it's hard to manage customer satisfaction if you can't identify and measure satisfaction. Impressions are good and bad, and research shows it takes about 10-12 positive impressions to erase one bad impression. Maybe it's time to start charting, training and managing touchpoints? If not, then buckle up, because your are on a road that will take you anywhere it wants to go!Support the show

It's been bugging me that there hasn't been an episode devoted to composting in 4 years! In March of this year, I think, there was a compost week, and friend of the podcast Alexa Pavan did a post about it, and it wasn't hard to convince her to come back Her first episode was # 107 in August of 2024 - link here: https://www.buzzsprout.com/admin/1952444/episodes/15591760-107-go-green-with-alexa-pavan ) and talk about composting, because she LOVES talking about it! This is something she's been talking about for a while - in fact, her regional composting service asks her to fill in when they need someone to educate and promote in her area!Alexa talks about the art of composting, and personally uses a composting company - she talks about the parts needed to keep a compost balanced and doing its job (a 4:1 ratio carbon to organic waste); she is just passionate about it and wants everyone to find a way to compost food waste - and she talks about why that matters, if you're curious. She brought up a phrase that hit me hard talking about why we need to protect our oceans by composting: "our oceans are the world's circulatory system." Her tagline is Imperfect Sustainability, because it's important to feel empowered to be part of the solution (does that sound familiar?), and we're most likely not going to do everything all the time to do it perfectly; but if we're doing our best, that's progress! Alexa is a copywriter, and writes for organizations that focus on sustainability. She's a lifelong diver and ocean warrior, content creator and climate communicator. She does a lot of education and volunteer events throughout the year; a lot of volunteer trash sorting and talking about composting.Learn all about Alexa here on her website: https://www.gogreenwithalexa.com/homeHer Instagram page is here (this is how I learned about her!): https://www.instagram.com/gogreenwithalexa/She goes in depth on some topics she's passionate about on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/@gogreenwithalexa/videosAlexa's composting company if you want to learn more: https://liverenuable.com/Send me a message!Support the showLike this episode?
