Field support in franchising is often the make-or-break factor that determines whether a system thrives or stalls. While franchise development and operations get plenty of attention, the role of field coaching remains one of the most powerful, yet underutilized, levers for driving sustainable success across a franchise network. Angela Coté, Founder and CEO of Field Coach Experts, has made it her mission to transform how franchise brands think about field support. With over 25 years of hands-on experience growing M&M Food Markets to nearly 500 locations, Angela understands firsthand that franchisee success doesn't happen by chance—it happens through intentional, effective, and scalable support systems. Angela's work goes beyond traditional consulting. Through Field Coach Experts, she helps franchise systems build out the training, professional development, and best practices needed to maximize the impact of their field teams. Her approach is rooted in the belief that empowered, well-supported franchisees are the foundation for system-wide growth, brand consistency, and long-term profitability. At the core of field support in franchising is the relationship between the franchisor and the franchisee. Coté explains that strong field coaching is not about policing operations or enforcing compliance through fear. Instead, it's about developing trusted partnerships that empower franchise owners to reach their full potential. When franchisees feel supported—not scrutinized—they are far more likely to engage, perform, and remain committed to the brand's mission. Effective field support begins with redefining the role of the field coach. Traditionally seen as inspectors or operational enforcers, field coaches must now be positioned as business advisors, leadership mentors, and accountability partners. Coté emphasizes that today's franchisees expect more than just checklists—they want strategic conversations that help them overcome challenges, identify opportunities, and build better businesses. Angela also points out that field coaching isn't just about individual unit success. It plays a critical role in protecting brand integrity, ensuring consistency across locations, and creating a cohesive franchise community. When franchisees see the brand investing in their personal and professional growth, it creates a deeper connection to the system and fuels positive momentum across the network. Field support in franchising also needs to evolve to meet the demands of a changing business environment. Coté highlights how the rise of virtual communication, changing workforce expectations, and increasingly sophisticated franchisees require brands to rethink how support is delivered. Modern field coaching must be agile, proactive, and highly personalized to resonate with today's owners. Training field coaches is an essential piece of the puzzle. Coté advocates for a structured development path that equips field teams with the skills they need to succeed—not just operational knowledge, but also leadership coaching, relationship-building, and emotional intelligence. Franchise brands that invest in developing their field teams set themselves apart in a competitive market. Another critical aspect Angela stresses is the need for data-driven coaching. Successful field support programs leverage performance metrics, benchmarking, and goal setting to guide conversations and track progress. Without measurable results, coaching can easily become subjective or disconnected from the broader business objectives. Field support in franchising is ultimately about creating a win-win dynamic. When field teams are trained to coach rather than police, and franchisees are given the tools and encouragement they need to thrive, the entire system benefits. Unit-level profitability improves, brand loyalty deepens, and expansion opportunities grow stronger. Angela Coté's approach offers a fresh, forward-thinking blueprint for franchise systems ready to take their support programs to the next level. By investing in people, relationships, and strategic field coaching, franchisors can build healthier, more resilient brands that drive success for every stakeholder. Craig highlights the summer rally potential, spurred by a falling U.S. Dollar Index and positive technical setups. Silver's breakout above key levels may be activating algorithmic buying and could spark broader momentum across miners. Craig sees a shift in sentiment as investors revisit mining equities, especially after Q1 earnings and improving margins heading into Q2. Discussion includes CoT reports, open interest washouts, and hedge fund positioning. The interview also touches on macroeconomic signals, potential commodity rotation, and geopolitical catalysts impacting safe-haven flows. Visit TF Metals Report for Craig's ongoing analysis
“Carriers of the Cot” from www.vopwc.org by Pastor N. R. Taylor, Jr.. Released: 2025. Genre: Vocal. The post Carriers of the Cot appeared first on Voice Of Praise Worship Center.

Explains language models (LLMs) advancements. Scaling laws - the relationships among model size, data size, and compute - and how emergent abilities such as in-context learning, multi-step reasoning, and instruction following arise once certain scaling thresholds are crossed. The evolution of the transformer architecture with Mixture of Experts (MoE), describes the three-phase training process culminating in Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF) for model alignment, and explores advanced reasoning techniques such as chain-of-thought prompting which significantly improve complex task performance. Links Notes and resources at ocdevel.com/mlg/mlg34 Build the future of multi-agent software with AGNTCY Try a walking desk stay healthy & sharp while you learn & code Transformer Foundations and Scaling Laws Transformers: Introduced by the 2017 "Attention is All You Need" paper, transformers allow for parallel training and inference of sequences using self-attention, in contrast to the sequential nature of RNNs. Scaling Laws: Empirical research revealed that LLM performance improves predictably as model size (parameters), data size (training tokens), and compute are increased together, with diminishing returns if only one variable is scaled disproportionately. The "Chinchilla scaling law" (DeepMind, 2022) established the optimal model/data/compute ratio for efficient model performance: earlier large models like GPT-3 were undertrained relative to their size, whereas right-sized models with more training data (e.g., Chinchilla, LLaMA series) proved more compute and inference efficient. Emergent Abilities in LLMs Emergence: When trained beyond a certain scale, LLMs display abilities not present in smaller models, including: In-Context Learning (ICL): Performing new tasks based solely on prompt examples at inference time. Instruction Following: Executing natural language tasks not seen during training. Multi-Step Reasoning & Chain of Thought (CoT): Solving arithmetic, logic, or symbolic reasoning by generating intermediate reasoning steps. Discontinuity & Debate: These abilities appear abruptly in larger models, though recent research suggests that this could result from non-linearities in evaluation metrics rather than innate model properties. Architectural Evolutions: Mixture of Experts (MoE) MoE Layers: Modern LLMs often replace standard feed-forward layers with MoE structures. Composed of many independent "expert" networks specializing in different subdomains or latent structures. A gating network routes tokens to the most relevant experts per input, activating only a subset of parameters—this is called "sparse activation." Enables much larger overall models without proportional increases in compute per inference, but requires the entire model in memory and introduces new challenges like load balancing and communication overhead. Specialization & Efficiency: Experts learn different data/knowledge types, boosting model specialization and throughput, though care is needed to avoid overfitting and underutilization of specialists. The Three-Phase Training Process 1. Unsupervised Pre-Training: Next-token prediction on massive datasets—builds a foundation model capturing general language patterns. 2. Supervised Fine Tuning (SFT): Training on labeled prompt-response pairs to teach the model how to perform specific tasks (e.g., question answering, summarization, code generation). Overfitting and "catastrophic forgetting" are risks if not carefully managed. 3. Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF): Collects human preference data by generating multiple responses to prompts and then having annotators rank them. Builds a reward model (often PPO) based on these rankings, then updates the LLM to maximize alignment with human preferences (helpfulness, harmlessness, truthfulness). Introduces complexity and risk of reward hacking (specification gaming), where the model may exploit the reward system in unanticipated ways. Advanced Reasoning Techniques Prompt Engineering: The art/science of crafting prompts that elicit better model responses, shown to dramatically affect model output quality. Chain of Thought (CoT) Prompting: Guides models to elaborate step-by-step reasoning before arriving at final answers—demonstrably improves results on complex tasks. Variants include zero-shot CoT ("let's think step by step"), few-shot CoT with worked examples, self-consistency (voting among multiple reasoning chains), and Tree of Thought (explores multiple reasoning branches in parallel). Automated Reasoning Optimization: Frontier models selectively apply these advanced reasoning techniques, balancing compute costs with gains in accuracy and transparency. Optimization for Training and Inference Tradeoffs: The optimal balance between model size, data, and compute is determined not only for pretraining but also for inference efficiency, as lifetime inference costs may exceed initial training costs. Current Trends: Efficient scaling, model specialization (MoE), careful fine-tuning, RLHF alignment, and automated reasoning techniques define state-of-the-art LLM development.
Welcome back to another Future-Focused Weekly Update where hopefully I'm helping you stay 10 steps ahead of the chaos at the intersection of business, tech, and the human experience. This week's update is loaded as usual and includes everything from disturbing new research about AI's inner workings to a college affordability crisis that's hitting even six-figure families, a stalled job market that has job seekers stuck for months, and Google doubling down on a questionable return-to-office push. With that, let's get into it.⸻AI Deception Confirmed by New Anthropic Research:Recent research from Anthropic reveals that AI's chain-of-thought (CoT) reasoning, the explanation behind its decisions, is inaccurate more than 80% of the time. That's right, 80%. However, it doesn't stop there. It finds 99% of shortcuts or hacks to achieve its goal. However, it only tells you when it did less than 2% of the time. I break down what this means for explainable AI, human-in-the-loop models, and why some of the most common AI training methods are actually making things worse.⸻College Now Unaffordable — Even for $300K FamiliesA viral survey is making waves with some pretty jaw-dropping claim. Apparently even families earning $300,000 a year can't afford top colleges. Now, that's bad, and there's no denying college costs are soaring, but there's more to it than meets the eye. I unpack what's really going on behind the headline, why financial aid rules haven't kept up, and how this affects not just elite schools but the entire higher education landscape. I also share some personal stories and practical alternatives.⸻Job Market Slows: 6+ Month Average Search TimeOut of work and struggling to find anything? You're not alone, and you're not crazy. New LinkedIn data shows over 50% of job seekers are taking more than six months to land a new role. I dig into why it's happening, what industries are still hiring, and how to reposition your skills to stay employable. Whether you're searching or simply staying prepared in case you find yourself in a search, my goal is to help you think differently about the environment and opportunity that exists.⸻Google Pushes RTO — 60 Hours in Office?I honestly can't believe this is still a thing, especially from a tech company. However, Google made headlines again with a recent and aggressive return-to-office policy, claiming “optimal performance” requires 60 in-office hours per week. I break down the questionable logic behind the claim, the anxiety driving these decisions, and what it means for the future of hybrid work. While there's lots of noise about “the truth” behind it, this isn't just about real estate or productivity, it's about misdirected executive anxiety.⸻If this resonated with you or gave you something to think about, drop a comment, share with a friend, and be sure to subscribe so you don't miss what's next.Show Notes:In this weekly update, host Christopher Lind navigates the intersection of business, tech, and human experience. Key topics include the emerging trend of companies adopting AI-first strategies, a detailed analysis of Anthropic's recent AI research, and its implications for explainable AI. Christopher also discusses the rising costs of higher education and offers practical advice for navigating college affordability amidst financial aid constraints. Furthermore, he provides a snapshot of the current job market, highlighting industries with better hiring prospects and strategies for job seekers. Lastly, the episode addresses Google's recent push for in-office work and the underlying motivations behind such corporate decisions.00:00 - Introduction 01:10 - AI Trends in Business: Shopify and Duolingo03:31 - Anthropic Research On AI Deception23:29 - College Affordability Crisis34:48 - LinkedIn Job Market Data43:47 - Google RTO Debate49:36 - Concluding Thoughts and Advice#FutureOfWork #AIethics #HigherEdCrisis #JobSearchTips #LeadershipInsights
Craig Hemke, Founder and Editor of TF Metals Report, joins us to break down shifts in gold and silver market dynamics. Gold continues to trade around the $3,300 level with extreme daily volatility, yet Commitment of Traders (CoT) data is revealing highly unusual trends. Craig also shares his insights into whether banks and commercials are now positioning themselves for a long-term trend change in the gold market. In this interview, we focus on: Why the traditional COT patterns are reversing - Commercials are buying and covering shorts, while speculators are selling, even during a strong price rally. Implications of falling open interest despite gold's $500 move higher since February, and what that signals for the strength of the current bull market. Balancing ETF inflows - Over $21 billion moved into gold-backed ETFs in Q1 2025, yet Craig explains why this is still a relatively small amount in the broader financial system. Silver's lagging performance - Despite gold's breakout, silver remains stuck, and Craig outlines the key catalysts needed for silver to finally join the rally. Todays episode is hosted by Degrassi's Annie Clark and her sister, The Quiet Beatle herself, Ali - (A sophisticated treat for all, as these sisters know the Queens English!) - while Sam enjoys her mat leave. (And by ENJOYS, I mean she lives in a COT at the hospital with a gaping stomach wound, but anyway I'm not supposed to even be writing this, I'm just doing it because I had a free moment in my weird hospital dorm room, and Annie is putting Bennett to sleep. I'm NOT EVEN HERE). Today the girls answer questions about a sister being a bitch about her sisters wedding and also something about parenthood? Idk I haven't listened yet. Gonna listen now from my COT. LOVE Y'ALL!

Banks Likely Covered Gold & Silver Shorts On Precious Metal Selloff One of the key things to watch in the precious metals markets this week is this Friday's COT report. The banks held large short positions prior to the selloff (particularly in silver), and on Friday we'll find out just how much short-covering they did as the price was coming down. We go through that, and the latest precious metals, all in today's show. Craig Hemke, editor of TF Metals Report, to dissect last week's sharp market selloff and its impact on precious metals. While gold and silver had been climbing steadily through Q1 - gold even up nearly 20% - they were not immune to the broad pullback, with both metals reversing sharply alongside global equity markets. Key topics discussed: The market-wide selloff and its ripple effect on gold and silver. Craig explains how liquidity needs and portfolio rebalancing by large funds contributed to the drop - even as fundamentals for precious metals remain intact. Historic parallels and sentiment shifts. Craig outlines similarities to past corrections and why this could be another consolidation before a rebound. Q1 earnings vs. market reaction. Despite record-high margins and profitability for gold producers, investors remain hesitant. Craig shares why generalist interest hasn't stuck - and whether this quarter's blowout numbers will matter. The frustrating disconnect in gold stocks. Gold is up over almost 100% since 2022 lows, yet many miners are still well below 2020 peaks. We explore what's holding them back: lack of growth, muted capital returns, and sector-wide neglect. Commitment of Traders (COT) report insights. Craig gives a preview of what the upcoming COT report may reveal about speculative positioning - why we might be nearing a reset point for the next leg higher. Long-term outlook for miners and strategy moving forward. With major producers sitting on strong balance sheets, M&A could heat up. Craig encourages a stock-picking approach: identify well-positioned juniors near large players rather than broad ETF exposure. Click here to visit Craig's website - TF Metals Report

Jeff Christian, Managing Partner at the CPM Group joins us to discuss the current trends and influencing factors in the precious metals market. The discussion kicks off with an overview of market performance, pointing out that precious metals are behaving differently from the broad averages. Jeff addresses the significant reduction in central bank gold purchases in 2024 compared to 2023, attributing it to several factors including higher gold prices and central banks' focus on supporting their economies amid higher inflation and weaker economic activity. Jeff also discusses the trend of central banks selling euros rather than US dollars to fund their gold purchases, debunking the notion that central banks are moving away from the dollar. The conversation shifts to private investment demand, noting a significant increase in gold purchases by private investors despite higher prices. Jeff shares insights on the commitment of traders (CoT) reports, emphasizing a notable increase in long positions and a decrease in short positions by institutional investors in the gold market. We then move to silver, the contrasting behavior of silver, which is not supported by central banks and sees different investment patterns. Historical comparisons are made to past periods of economic uncertainty, drawing parallels with the late 1970s and early 1980s. Jeff provides his perspective on the potential for silver prices to spike to $50, albeit briefly, and offers strategic advice for investors to manage such a scenario Jeff also touches upon the ongoing underperformance of gold stocks compared to gold itself, attributing it to a broader shift in investment strategies and some disenchantment with the mining industry.
