Tony Chen is the Co-Founder of Manolin Inc., a new startup in the aquaculture space. Manolin is a software company that aims to accelerate resource sharing between salmon farms as well as prevent and manage sea lice outbreaks through digital health management. Before co-founding Manolin, Tony was developing software for the U.S. government and was only interested in aquaculture as a hobby. His fascination grew to new heights when he discovered how oyster farming works and the plight of its farmers.   Tony joins me today to share his thoughts on aquaculture and why he thinks it’s going to radically change the way we look at agriculture in the near future. He explains what aquaculture is all about, how he believes it can contribute to solving the world food production crisis, and how their company aims to help ocean farmers. He discusses some of the issues of aquaculture and how they tie with the ocean’s current problems. He also describes why they worked with HATCH among other startup accelerators in the industry.   “Aquaculture is another industrial revolution and the world is starting to recognize that.” - Tony Chen   This Week on The Future of Agriculture Podcast:   What is Aquaculture and how can it impact the future of agriculture? Why he focused on Aquaculture despite having a degree in Computer Science from MIT. What is Manolin and what do they aim to do? Their clients and what their operation might look like. Why they pursued a partnership with the startup accelerator HATCH. The challenges and benefits of being a U.S. company operating in a foreign country. His advice to startups planning to work with accelerators. Why people need to pay more attention to aquaculture. How their app works and what it can provide to its users.   Key Takeaways: We're at a stage where there is an opportunity for regeneration in the ocean. Knowing what's happening at a nearby farm is just as important as what's happening at your specific farm. The lack of aquaculture is one of the larger problems when you think about food production globally.   Resources Mentioned:   HATCH Connect with Tony Chen:   Manolin Manolin Aqua Email: tony@manolinaqua.com  We Are a Part of a Bigger Family!    The Future of Agriculture Podcast is now part of the Farm and Rural Ag Network. Tara Grant, also known as Primal Girl, has been living an ancestral lifestyle since 2009. Her story wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies, though, as she also struggled with her weight and her own body issues all throughout her life. Before she knew of the Paleo diet, she tried other fad diets which literally did nothing for her. Even the doctors didn’t know what to do with her condition. It wasn’t until she read about living a Paleo lifestyle that she finally managed to bring about a huge transformation. She has since actively told her story, her struggles and successes, so she can serve as an inspiration to others. In today’s episode, Tara talks about the many changes she's made to transform herself, her own fitness inspirations, and her story of how she changed her life from being a 260 lbs. struggling dieter to a 143 lbs. personal trainer. “Listen to your gut, to yourself. If something works or doesn't work for you then that's true for you.” Tara Grant In this episode, you’ll learn: The many fad diets she tried that didn’t work despite her fondness of training and dieting. What book inspired her to revise her lifestyle for the better. She felt so weak and riddled with autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, it was like she was an 80-year-old in her 20’s. Her body had insulin issues so the Paleo diet was perfect due to the low carb requirement. She went full paleo overnight. Having too much dairy in your diet might be what’s causing you many health problems. Full functional movement, with or without weights, is better than using machines. Being able to bend over and touch your toes is a pretty good indication of health. The importance of sleeping and waking up in a more “natural” manner. Eliminating blue light is the best practice before sleep. Be more social outside your phone. Physical human interaction is a necessity for our survival as a species. Key Takeaways: We're the only mammals that think we need milk after nursing so try and see what happens when you remove all forms of dairy for at least 30 days. Raise Your Vibe
047 - Addicted: How to Change your Negative Thinking Patterns

Raise Your Vibe

Are you addicted? You probably are running through the list of things that you do to see if you've got an addiction problem. That's not what we're talking about in this episode. In this episode, we're talking about the addiction to negative thinking and of course, how you can stop. IN THIS EPISODE 0:24 We're talking about addictions today. Not addictions to drug, alcohol or food. We're talking about your addiction to negative thoughts. 0:37 What triggers negative thoughts and emotion and how can you start to reframe or avoid them so you can feel better all the time. When you feel better, life is better and your vibe is higher. You're attracting into your life people who are happy, abundant and things that bring more money.  2:03 We are a high vibe party and high vibe people. And you can't do that if everything that goes through your head sucks and is negative.  2:47 Being happy is a choice. It's also an action to the things in our life. It's a way to stay comfortable or rewarding ourself. 3:17 Addiction, according to Wikipedia, is a brain disorder characterized by compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli, despite adverse consequences. 4:03 If you've watched this happen, you ask why is this happening. If it was you, you've known what you're thinking and feeling. I've known people who have tried to quit smoking. It's those triggers where you react and allow it to push you over the edge or out of control. You get put into a place where you want to be in a place that is safe and feels better. So you reach for this compulsive behavior or thought. It feels good temporarily, but in the end, it's sabotage. 6:05 At the end of the day if you feel depleted, sad, anxious, jealous or just not good, (I'm not talking major chemical imbalances) where you're letting your reactions or emotions impact you. Let's look at some examples and how we can change that so we can start feeling amazing. 7:31 Your social circles. You are the average of the five people you hang out with. Your income is the average of the five people you hang out with. Are they high vibing and happy? Or are they complaining, gossiping and not happy? Depending on how those conversations go, they make you feel good or like crap. I mentioned the income, hang out with people who are happy about the ways they're making money, instead of complaining about the system. Stay away from people who complain about money. 10:28 Our environment. Are you going to the mall and spend more than you should? Do you hide bags in the closet because you're afraid that someone will find out how much you spend, that's not giving you a good feeling. You might feel guilt, shame and buyers remorse. You might pay off those credit cards, but when you want to feel better, you go right back to spending with them and it becomes an endless cycle. 12:42 Your environment might also be driving around rich neighborhoods. For me in Michigan, this was driving up Grose Point and seeing all these beautiful, big houses. When I was a teen, it felt good to drive down this road and dream. I got to a point where it started feeling bad because it seemed like I'd never get that, or I felt like I'd never measure up. The simple solution is to stay off the road and now allow yourself to go down that road. It's a decision that I had to make consciously to stay away. Your environment can affect your emotions and thinking patterns. Think about this throughout the day and check in with yourself.  16:28 Ask yourself how you're feeling and tell yourself you're only going to allow yourself to feel that good or better during the day. Make conscious decisions to surround yourself with people and things who will bring you up.  16:58 Do you watch the news to catch the weather or the latest stories. And then when you leave, do you feel like you're going to get mugged or like you need a bodyguard to pump your gas. That fear attracts what happens. Your vibe attracts what happens to you. If you're saying "I don't want to get mugged" the universe hears that as "I want to get mugged" and those things will start being fulfilled. 19:08 How do you start replacing and reframing. Avoiding is one thing - avoid the situations that result in the negative thinking in the long run. If you find yourself spending time on Facebook and feeling yuck, stay off Facebook. If social circles make you feel like you're not the person you could be, then remove yourself from that circle. What if you watch the news and think about all the negativity happen in five minutes. You could catch the news through email services where you can subscribe and get it in your inbox or through an app for news and weather. If the mall is your thing, leave your credit cards at home. Put them in a bowl, fill it with water and freeze it. Take cash to the mall. After you've started to make some shifts, celebrate! Notice how good you feel. Celebrate little wins. 22:53 Pay attention to how you feel every day. Make a list of things that trigger you every day. Start writing them down. Then jot down how you can avoid that situation or reframe that situation to replace your normal behavior. And then figure out how you will celebrate. [bctt tweet="Our environment can affect your emotions and thinking patterns." username="tonyarineer"] KEY TAKEAWAYS We're talking about your addiction to negative thoughts.
