Voice From Heaven
Lesson of the Day 183 - I call upon God's Name and on my own with Devavan

Voice From Heaven

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 2, 2022 56:01

I call upon God's Name and on my own. God's Name is holy, but no holier than yours. To call upon His Name is but to call upon your own. A father gives his son his name, and thus identifies the son with him. His brothers share his name, and thus are they united in a bond to which they turn for their identity. Your Father's Name reminds you who you are, even within a world that does not know; even though you have not remembered it. God's Name can not be heard without response, nor said without an echo in the mind that calls you to remember. Say His Name, and you invite the angels to surround the ground on which you stand, and sing to you as they spread out their wings to keep you safe, and shelter you from every worldly thought that would intrude upon your holiness. Repeat God's Name, and all the world responds by laying down illusions. Every dream the world holds dear has suddenly gone by, and where it seemed to stand you find a star; a miracle of grace. The sick arise, healed of their sickly thoughts. The blind can see; the deaf can hear. The sorrowful cast off their mourning, and the tears of pain are dried as happy laughter comes to bless the world. Repeat the Name of God, and little names have lost their meaning. No temptation but becomes a nameless and unwanted thing before God's Name. Repeat His Name, and see how easily you will forget the names of all the gods you valued. They have lost the name of god you gave them. They become anonymous and valueless to you, although before you let the Name of God replace their little names, you stood before them worshipfully, naming them as gods. Repeat the Name of God, and call upon your Self, Whose Name is His. Repeat His Name, and all the tiny, nameless things on earth slip into right perspective. Those who call upon the Name of God can not mistake the nameless for the Name, nor sin for grace, nor bodies for the holy Son of God. And should you join a brother as you sit with him in silence, and repeat God's Name along with him within your quiet mind, you have established there an altar which reaches to God Himself and to His Son. Practice but this today; repeat God's Name slowly again and still again. Become oblivious to every name but His. Hear nothing else. Let all your thoughts become anchored on This. No other word we use except at the beginning, when we say today's idea but once. And then God's Name becomes our only thought, our only word, the only thing that occupies our minds, the only wish we have, the only sound with any meaning, and the only Name of everything that we desire to see; of everything that we would call our own. Thus do we give an invitation which can never be refused. And God will come, and answer it Himself. Think not He hears the little prayers of those who call on Him with names of idols cherished by the world. They cannot reach Him thus. He cannot hear requests that He be not Himself, or that His Son receive another name than His. Repeat God's Name, and you acknowledge Him as sole Creator of reality. And you acknowledge also that His Son is part of Him, creating in His Name. Sit silently, and let His Name become the all-encompassing idea that holds your mind completely. Let all thoughts be still except this one. And to all other thoughts respond with this, and see God's Name replace the thousand little names you gave your thoughts, not realizing that there is one Name for all there is, and all that there will be. Today you can achieve a state in which you will experience the gift of grace. You can escape all bondage of the world, and give the world the same release you found. You can remember what the world forgot, and offer it your own remembering. You can accept today the part you play in its salvation, and your own as well. And both can be accomplished perfectly. Turn to the Name of God for your release, and it is given you. No prayer but this is necessary, for it holds them all within it. Words are insignificant, and all requests unneeded when God's Son calls on his Father's Name. His Father's Thoughts become his own. He makes his claim to all his Father gave, is giving still, and will forever give. He calls on Him to let all things he thought he made be nameless now, and in their place the holy Name of God becomes his judgment of their worthlessness. All little things are silent. Little sounds are soundless now. The little things of earth have disappeared. The universe consists of nothing but the Son of God, who calls upon his Father. And his Father's Voice gives answer in his Father's holy Name. In this eternal, still relationship, in which communication far transcends all words, and yet exceeds in depth and height whatever words could possibly convey, is peace eternal. In our Father's Name, we would experience this peace today. And in His Name, it shall be given us.- Jesus Christ in A Course in Miracles, Lesson 183

Having close bonds with others is one of the most important things to our happiness. Host Dacher Keltner walks you through a practice you can do with someone else to create new bonds or strengthen old ones. Plus, hear some of his answers to these questions alongside his wife, Molly. How to Do the 36 Questions for Increasing Closeness Practice: Take a few deep breaths, and notice how you feel. Identify someone with whom you'd like to become closer. Find a time where you both have about  45 minutes Take 15 minutes answering the questions in Set I below. Each person should answer each question, but alternate who answers first. If you don't finish the set in 15 minutes, move on to Set II. Repeat the steps above for sets II and III. Here's a sample of the questions: Set I 1. Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest? 2. Would you like to be famous? In what way? 3. Before making a telephone call, do you ever rehearse what you are going to say? Why? 4. What would constitute a “perfect” day for you? 5. When did you last sing to yourself? To someone else? 6. If you were able to live to the age of 90 and retain either the mind or body of a 30-year-old for the last 60 years of your life, which would you want? 7. Do you have a secret hunch about how you will die? 8. Name three things you and your partner appear to have in common. Set II 13. If a crystal ball could tell you the truth about yourself, your life, the future, or anything else, what would you want to know? 14. Is there something that you've dreamed of doing for a long time? Why haven't you done it? 15. What is the greatest accomplishment of your life? 16. What do you value most in a friendship? 17. What is your most treasured memory? 18. What is your most terrible memory? 19. If you knew that in one year you would die suddenly, would you change anything about the way you are now living? Why? 20. What does friendship mean to you? Set III 25. Make three true “we” statements each. For instance, “We are both in this room feeling…” 26. Complete this sentence: “I wish I had someone with whom I could share…” 27. If you were going to become a close friend with your partner, please share what would be important for them to know. 28. Tell your partner what you like about them; be very honest this time, saying things that you might not say to someone you've just met. 29. Share with your partner an embarrassing moment in your life. 30. When did you last cry in front of another person? By yourself? 31. Tell your partner something that you like about them [already]. 32. He is a songwriter and has played with the likes of Vince Gill, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and more.  Oh and he is the winner of 15 Grammy Awards!Barry is a husband and has one son, Marshall who is 15.  Barry is a 5th-generation farmer. He and his family own Bales Farm, where they raise grass-fed/grass-finished beef, pasture-raised chicken, pasture-raised pork, and free-range eggs.  Barry and his wife, Aliceson, were kind enough to have us out to the farm to record this episode. We sat outside on one of their porches and talked over a glass of bourbon on a beautiful East Tennessee day. Barry and Palmer talked about the importance of knowing when and what life lessons to teach our kids and the mediums to use when teaching, about his time as a child growing up on the farm, and the love and admiration he had for his grandfather, and the challenges of managing our own expectations of what we want for our kids. They talked a bit about the music industry and some of the changes Barry has seen during his time in it and spent the last part of the conversation talking about regenerative farming, why they practice it at Bales Farm, and why we need to see changes happening in our farming and food culture. A big thanks again to Barry for joining the podcast! In This Episode: Barry Bales on Instagram Aliceson Bales on Instagram Bales Farm Website | Instagram | YouTube | Cookbook Anthony Palmer on InstagramPalm Tree Pod Co. What a beautiful group this evening. Once again we hear a young brother asking  questions about transgressing the commands and guidance given by an elder. What we hear over and over again is an emphasis upon the fact that an elder is not disconnected from one in his care. If a person transgresses a command or ignores the guidance of an elder, he is to return to him without fear or with the expectation that his humility will be met with anything but gentleness, tenderness, and further counsel. Of course, this does not mean we fall into neglect or become indifferent about striving to live holy lives.  What we find in the Fathers again and again is an emphasis upon the value of repentance; turning to God with humble hearts and receiving a flood of his grace and mercy.  Again the brother asks if one should simply neglect to learn about the spiritual life so as not to be held accountable for particular sins. The elder quickly tells him that such a thought is sinister in that it blocks the path to true healing. Sin brings its own suffering. Repentance is a gift from God that opens up a path to healing and hope.  Why would one not want to know the path that God has opened up for us? Why would one not desire the wisdom of the counsel of the fathers in order that they might truly be healed? Furthermore, the elder emphasizes that God values the person of his servants precisely because they imitate Christ himself. They offer advice with intense and warm prayer to God and make their own the sufferings of others crying out to God, “Master save us, we perish.“  Save US! We do not struggle as Christians in isolation but we embrace one another's struggles as our own. --- Text of chat during the group:  00:16:40 David Fraley: Hello to all.   00:16:52 FrDavid Abernethy: page 180 letter K.  Hypothesis 21   00:17:17 FrDavid Abernethy: hi Dave   00:17:25 FrDavid Abernethy: where are the snacks??   00:19:01 maureencunningham: thank you Ren   00:24:58 carolnypaver: What page/section?   00:25:09 renwitter: =Page 181   00:25:16 carolnypaver: TY   00:34:35 Sheila Applegate: I often feel like Sisyphus rolling the rock up the hill only  to have it come crashing down. If you're like most entrepreneurs, you've done some things wrong in your past. Maybe you've made poor financial decisions, or you've treated people poorly. Whatever it is, holding onto that guilt is only going to hurt your business. The best thing you can do for yourself is to forgive yourself for everything that you have done wrong. This will free up your mental energy and allow you to move on. As an added bonus, forgiving yourself will also make you happier and more productive. So how do you go about forgiving yourself? The first step is to acknowledge that you made a mistake. Next, accept that it's okay to make mistakes sometimes. Finally, learn from the experience and vow not to make the same mistake again. Forgiving yourself can be easier than you think. Close your eyes, place your hands over your heart and say, "I Forgive Myself." Repeat this until the tension you feel starts to fade away. He started painting furniture and quickly turned into a gift shop, purchasing wholesale products. His growth journey from booth space to 7000 sq feet and running a profitable retail business has not always been linear.    Jeff has seen the highs and the lows of business and gotten through it by putting on his CEO hat, digging in and doing the work. One thing Jeff will share with us is how he's made hard decisions about product lines, branding, etc…including truly listening to what his customers want.    Jeff will also share how he's turned his shop into a local destination shop. From merchandising, product lines, the smell of his store, the lighting, the layout, the conversations - Jeff has mastered the FEEL of his store to bring in more customers again and again.    I know that when you listen to Jeff's journey and understand his mindset - you will gain so many takeaways!    In retail, it's always: Start. Skeptic Generation is excited to have a friend and co-host from another life, Kevin S join us today! We have some difficult things to discuss after the Roe v Wade decision news, but we also want to make sure we're staying on course on our own mission: taking bad ideas to task. Do you think your beliefs should be *our* beliefs? Do you believe in a globalist agenda, aliens, or other grand conspiracy? Now the caller has deconverted, but his friend is still deep in it… and has gone even further. This friend now believes that they are demon possessed and cannot leave the house. How do you reckon with the guilt, and what can Chris do to help? 25:47 Repeat caller Vishanti is fed up with progressive Christians washing their hands of the radical Christofascist Right. What can they do to deal emotionally and practically with these bad actors, and what do we risk if they don't? Speaking of bad actors, we dump on Mr. Delicieux for a while which is oddly cathartic. If you want to share the cringe, check out the other week's clip: https://youtu.be/gbdJHNknzyc 37:47This religious caller is not a Christian, and feels threatened by the Christian nationalist agenda in the United States. Deeply scared, in fact. Special guest Kevin has some crucial takes on why things are so dark right now, and he isn't afraid to call a spade a spade. 47:40 People have to be more willing to give themselves more credit, and give God less credit. You've done the thing yourself! Just a cheerful reminder from a repeat caller! 52:25 We discussed “debate bros” the other week. Now this caller wants to defend Destiny for being a champion for having the hard conversations. According to this caller, there is no such thing as “platforming a bad idea” and you should give everyone who wants to debate the rights of others a microphone. In general, he has lots of opinions on how we should run our show. Maybe he should start his own? Watch our last conversation about debate bros: https://youtu.be/3NIk_KrTS8g Check out a video that explains this issue better than we could with @F.D Signifier here: https://youtu.be/4y0nR0E8pk4 1:15:50Do skeptics have any kind of moral duties or obligations? Does skepticism have any kind of “ought” statements? Eric gets really excited about this and dives right in. Ultimately, skepticism is not what you use to make moral judgments, but it *is* how you get the raw materials to make good moral judgments. ___________________Skeptic Generation is LIVE every Sunday at 11:30am-1:00pm CTCall on your phone: 585-LA-MURPH (585-526-8774) Call online: https://tiny.cc/callSG Love the show? Wadjasay? American English Pronunciation Practice

To play something by ear has two meanings. One is the musical meaning: when you play a song by ear, it means you play the song without any sheet music, so you're not looking at the notes. You know the song, it's in your head, so you can play it without needing to look at written music. The second meaning of “play it by ear” means to do something without much practice or preparation. If you give a speech to two hundred people and all you bring to the speech are a few notes, then you are ready to “play it by ear”, to give the speech knowing only the general outline of what you plan to say. In essence you are confident in your ability to speak extemporaneously, making up the speech as you go.     “To wing it” means the same thing as play it by ear:  to proceed without much preparation.John: “Did you study for the exam?” Mary: “No, I'm going to wing it.” So Mary feels confident enough to take the exam without studying.Podcast Text. The conversation repeats three times. The “Listen and Repeat” section follows after.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          When you prepare a speech, do you write everything down in advance?—Yes. I write the speech, then I read it aloud to myself. Then I revise it till I'm happy. What about you?My approach is the opposite. I just write down the points I want to make, and then I play it by ear.— You're kidding! You just stand up in front of an audience and wing it?Yep. "If you are suffering from infertility, if you're pregnant, if you're a postpartum menopausal in the middle of life like I am, you're taking care of your kids, your professional life, and your long-term relationships. We create a personalized sexual health journey for each of our users, and sexual health, the way we define it, is not a problem to be solved. We bring all those resources together in one safe space, one convenient platform so that women can access whatever resource they need during their specific life, moment or journey."   The most frequent users of Rosy are women in the late 30s or early 40s when sex has fallen to the wayside, Lyndsey says.   "They might come to their physician describing low sexual desire, which is the No. 1 complaint of women when it comes to sexual health - 38 percent of women say that they have low sexual desire," she says. "We have resources from sex therapists that have created a bunch of resources for us to help women reprioritize sex and desire."   Putting these resources on a smartphone app is a significant component of Rosy's mission - to meet women where they are. The app is free to download. Users are welcomed and then are invited to take a 27-question quiz to help build their journey inside the platform. Access to experts, doctors, and therapists is available, as well as a library of erotica - an evidence-based tool for sexual dysfunction, Lyndsey says. Individual coaching also is available.   Lyndsey offers some words of wisdom to would-be entrepreneurs considering a new venture: Have the big picture in mind. Write it down. Repeat it. Also, don't let the big work ahead intimidate you on a daily basis.   "Just move on past it and keep going," she says.   In Part 2, Lyndsey talks about:   * The ideal consumer for the Rosy app. * The resources available via the app. * The No. 1 issue users say they face. * How the app works. * What the user experience is like. * Advice to fellow entrepreneurs.   Join Ramon Vela and Dr. Lyndsey Harper as they break down the inside story on The Story of a Brand.   For more on Rosy Wellness, visit: https://meetrosy.com/    Subscribe and Listen to the podcast on all major apps. “As long as we dare to dream and don't get in the way of ourselves, anything is possible—there's truly no end to where our dreams can take us.” Hilary Swank On the episode you will learn: The Neuroscience behind ✔ Why our dreams are so weird, highly emotional and often forgotten. ✔ With a BRAIN STRATEGY you can use to improve your waking life, with your brain and sleep in mind. For returning guests, welcome back, and for those who are new here, I'm Andrea Samadi, author, and educator, with a passion for learning, understanding difficult concepts, and breaking them down so that we can all use and apply the most current research to improve our productivity and results in our schools, sports environments, and modern workplaces. On today's EPISODE #226 and Brain Fact Friday, we are going to dive deeper into the research of Dr. Baland Jalal, who has studied the phenomenon of sleep paralysis and dreams for the past decade, and see what we can learn from our brain, while dreaming. To do this, we are going to review what's happening to the brain during sleep paralysis, and during our REM/dream state to see what we can learn from this understanding. I hope this will open up our level of awareness and help us to understand how our dream world can impact our everyday, waking world. What is Sleep Paralysis? Dr. Jalal and I discussed this terrifying experience in depth on our recent interview, episode #224[i] and most of us can relate to this experience, but wonder what it is, and why it happens, in addition to many other questions I had about dreams themselves. You can see Dr. Jalal's lectures on this topic, where he explains what happens to our brain when we sleep and that we even see things we might say were ghosts. Now that I have heard Dr. Jalal's explanation of what happens to our brains when we are dreaming, I definitely think of my brain now, when analyzing my dreams, with this new awareness. Which brings us to this week's Brain Fact Friday where I want to explore sleep paralysis, why dreams are so weird, and why are they highly emotional, and do this, with our brain in mind. SLEEP PARALYSIS DID YOU KNOW that during REM sleep (when we dream) there's a part of the brain in the brain stem that paralyzes the body to keep us (and our sleeping partner) safe[ii] and another part of our brain (the cortex) that's responsible for our perceptual awareness. Occasionally, we can wake up when we are still in REM sleep, and are perceptually aware, but unable to move as we are paralyzed. This is sleep paralysis, and can feel terrifying, if you have no idea what's going on. I learned from Dr. Jalal that in this state we can also see what we think is a ghost, or which he explains is “an illusion that your brain creates” in the Temporal Parietal Junction (that's close to our Occipital or Visual Lobe) that can project a sense of our self, outside of our body. Have you ever felt or seen something like this and thought it was a ghost? Seeing something like this, paired up with feeling paralyzed can be a terrifying experience as I told him in the interview, and he agreed, with his own sleep paralysis experience. Then, our brain doesn't like the feeling of incompleteness and it will make up a story of what you are seeing. Dr. Jalal explains that in all of the years he has done this work, he has found that our cultural background can influence what we think we are seeing. It took me some time to make the connection, but the ghost I saw, was not far off from an 18th Century Englishman, or even someone wearing the outfits of the guards at Buckingham Palace. I did grow up with a photo of the Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip in my house, and this made me think it could have been the reason why my ghost was of British decent when I was actually in a house in Vancouver, Canada. My brain created this image from a past, cultural memory. WHY ARE DREAMS SO WEIRD? DID YOU KNOW that there's a part of our brain called the Dorsolateral PFC[iii] (a region of the frontal lobes associated with executive functions like working memory and attention) (Curtis and D'Esposito, 2003) that put concepts together in a meaningful way in our life—and that during REM sleep, or when we are dreaming, this part of the brain “shuts off”[iv] so we aren't usually aware that we are dreaming? If you have ever thought “that dream felt so real” this is the reason why, and it also explains why everything in our dreams is messed up and backwards. One minute we are on a bus with friends we haven't seen in years, you grab one of your friends' hand, jump off the bus, and go to the movies, and the next minute, you are back in your childhood home, drinking tea. This is one of my bizarre dreams, and I'm sure you can relate with your dreams. Now that I understand Dr. Jalal's explanation of the part of my brain that puts concepts together in a meaningful way, shutting down during REM sleep, I can clearly see why everything in my dream is disjointed and doesn't make much linear sense. WHY ARE DREAMS FILLED WITH STRONG EMOTION, PAST MEMORIES AND PEOPLE? DID YOU KNOW that during the REM state, or while we are dreaming, that “four areas of the brain fire up: the visual spatial regions (that help people to find their way around the world), the motor cortex (creates movement in the body), the hippocampus (our memory center) and amygdala (that processes strong emotions like fear, pleasure or anger)” “Which is why dreams are often filled with movement, strong emotions, past memories, people, experiences and are irrational.” Mathew Walker[v] tells us on his podcast that's all about why we dream. If you can keep a dream log, over time you can see what's going on in your waking hours, and learn from your dreams. Usually our concerns, worries and fears will show up in our dreams in some way, and you can solve them once you are aware of what they are. To conclude this week's Brain Fact Friday, that came from our recent interview with the world's leading expert on sleep paralysis, Dr. Baland Jalal, we took a closer look at the neuroscience of our dream world, explaining why our dreams are so weird, often highly emotional and what we can learn from them. I have four brain tips to make what we have learned about our brain when we sleep, useful in our daily life. UNDERSTANDING SLEEP PARALYSIS: Once we know what sleep paralysis is, that our brain paralyzes our body to keep us safe, then we can understand what might happen if we become perceptually aware during our REM sleep, and stuck between our sleep and wake state. BRAIN TIP FOR THIS FACT: OUR BRAIN DOESN'T LIKE CONFLICT OR INCOMPLETENESS: So figure out what your story is, if you have had a sleep paralysis experience and it's left you feeling unsettled. I explained my British ghost that my brain created as an illusion to tell the story and fill in the blanks of the unknown. What was YOUR sleep paralysis experience, and how can YOU  make sense of it?   WHY ARE DREAMS SO WEIRD AND OFTEN FORGOTTEN: Since we now know the Dorsolateral PFC, the front part of our brain associated with memory, attention and putting things together in a meaningful way in our life, shuts down during REM sleep, we can now understand why dreams are so weird and events that happen are all over the place. If the part of our brain responsible for our memory is turned off, this explains why “95% of our dreams we don't remember” but we might remember the last few minutes, and last stage of our dreams if we are intentional about it. BRAIN TIP FOR THIS FACT: REPEAT TO REMEMBER: (which is John Medina's Brain Rule #5).[vi] If you want to improve this number see if you can remember your dreams when you wake up. Write them down before you do anything else, or they will be forgotten. Sometimes I'm not even awake yet, and I repeat the dream in my head while I'm brushing my teeth, to help me to remember and write it down when I can. Also, it will help if you are intentional about this practice and say “I will remember my dream” before you go to sleep at night. LEARN WHY DREAMS ARE HIGHLY EMOTIONAL: When we know what parts of the brain fire up during REM sleep, especially our amygdala that processes strong emotions, or past memories and experiences, we can now look for messages in our dreams, over time to see what common themes come up. If we can solve the problems that we find in our waking hours, it will help improve the other 1/3 of our life spent in sleep. BRAIN TIP FOR THIS FACT: SLEEP WELL, THINK WELL (John Medina's Brain Rule #7).[vii] Here's the im portance of sleep again. It keeps coming back on this podcast. John Medina writes in his Brain Rules book, that “people vary on how much sleep they need and when they prefer to get it, but the biological need for a nap is universal.” (Medina, Brain Rules)[viii] If there's something bothering you in your waking hours, it will show up in your dreams in some way, and will impact your sleep. To truly sleep well, leading to improved “attention, executive function, working memory, mood, quantitative skills, logical reasoning and even motor dexterity” (Medina) work out your problems, and add a nap to your day to keep your mind operating at its highest levels. While Dr. Jalal does put his neuroscientific mind first with every question I asked him, there were still some questions that he said science couldn't prove, that have a spiritual side. Instead of saying that some things are not possible, he leaves this up to us to keep an open mind, and perhaps in the future, new advancements in science could move us forward so that we could find answers to the spiritual questions of our dreams in a way to benefit our waking life. Until then, I plan to keep on dreaming, and learning as much as I can on this topic to share with you here. I hope you've enjoyed diving deep into sleep paralysis, why our dreams are so weird, and highly emotional with some tips we can all use to take our understanding and awareness to a new level. It really helped me to make sense of my sleep paralysis experience after interviewing Dr. Jalal, and thinking of ways that we can all use what we learned from his research. I do plan to keep an open mind moving forward to see what else I can learn from lucid dreaming, especially as it relates to improving our psychological well-being. Apologies are key to successful relationships. But are you doing them right? Episode summary: We all have moments when we say or do something we later regret. Then the time comes to make an apology. But a halfhearted “I'm sorry” rarely gets the job done. On this episode of The Science of Happiness, public defender Sam Dugan joins us for a second time to try science-backed tips for making an effective apology. First, she takes a moment to cultivate mindfulness through a mindful breathing practice. Next, Sam invites us in as she apologizes to her husband Nate. Sam reflects on how she took out her stress on Nate, what led her to lash out, and the importance of making a true, heartfelt apology — as opposed to the mindless ones many of us make on a near-daily basis. Then we hear from Sana Rizvi, a professor at the University of New Brunswick, about the science of how mindfulness can make us more apologetic. Practice: Mindful Breathing Invite your body to relax into a comfortable position. Tune into the rhythm of your breath, and pay attention as you breathe in through your nose, hold your breath, and exhale through your mouth. Repeat as many times as you'd like. Making an Effective Apology Acknowledge the offense by showing that you recognize who was responsible, who was harmed, and the nature of the offense. If helpful, provide an explanation, especially to convey that it was not intentional and that it will not happen again. Express remorse. Make amends. When considering how to best make amends, be sure to ask the offended person what would mean the most to them. The Second Phase Podcast - Personal Branding & Brand Marketing and Life Strategies for Success for Female Entrepreneurs

Have you thought of starting and/or monetizing a Facebook group? Is a Facebook group worth your time and effort, or are Facebook groups dead? The controversy of having a Facebook group. It is still possible to grow and monetize a Facebook group? Is it worth your time and effort? Michelle Vroom believes it is. About Michelle Vroom Michelle Vroom is a business coach with more than 15 years of experience with nonprofits, agencies, and big corporations. Now she helps female entrepreneurs reach a $10K month using their Facebook groups. She understands the challenges of limited resources and time and shares her proven methods for visibility and relationship building to get clients and grow your business. The things you are good at are not a no-brainer for someone else As coaches, we often don't specialize until we've worked with clients and seen their results and how we've really helped them. The thing that we are so good at, we think is basic knowledge that everyone knows how to do to. This isn't the case. Are Facebook groups dying off? Facebook is still the biggest game in town. There will always be a Facebook because of the sense of community in a Facebook Group. You can really build rapport in a Facebook Group. And people need and want that sense of community. Set realistic expectations for your Facebook group Michelle stated that her Facebook Group has decreased her sales process by half. Why? Because people enter the group and binge her content so the know love and trust factor is built-in. She doesn't have to warm them up as much. The three-step road map for growing and monetizing a Facebook group, the GPS method Step one is grow (G). The second step is pre-selling (P). Create demand before selling. And step three is to sell (S). If you are pre-selling, selling becomes easy. Using the Destination Strategy to grow and monetize a Facebook group Michelle uses one single strategy that includes all three steps. Her strategy is to host free live events inside the Facebook group. One of the most important things about growing your group is getting the right people in your group. Hosting a destination event is great because then people are coming for the information. No one comes because it's a free group, there are so many free groups as is that people don't need another one to join. People care about what is happening inside the group. If you host an event people will come based on the information you are providing. Michelle recommends being intentional with marketing your group. The three questions people answer to join a Facebook group When you establish a Facebook group, you can set up three screening questions. This is a great way to collect email addresses. How you position your group matters. When you share the type of content you are sharing in your group, instead of the fact that you have a free group, you are more likely to attract the right people to your Facebook group. If you attract the right people, you are more likely to grow and monetize your Facebook group. Don't focus on the numbers, focus on the quality of members. If you want to monetize your Facebook, you must have quality leads joining, not just inviting and accepting anyone. How to pre-sell to monetize your Facebook Group Monetizing your Facebook group is both a short and long-term strategy. People may not buy within the first 90-days. If they are the right fit, they will ultimately buy. Members will ultimately convert If you are always growing, always pre-selling, and selling. If you aren't selling in your group, you aren't telling your members what you do enough. Paint the picture of where you were, where you are, and where you are going so that your members can relate to this and want to work with you. The destination event will warm people up and will most likely buy the next event. A destination event will ultimately lead to sales. One-third of your members are your cheerleaders and are not going to buy from you, but they may refer people to you. The second one-third are not ready to buy, but after you pre-sell, they will become ready to buy. And lastly, one-third is ready to buy. The power of groups is that while people are waiting to buy, they are hanging out in your group and consuming content. The Live Launch Method by Kelly Roach  Ideas for destination events to grow and monetize your Facebook group Ideally, you want to do a live event, maybe a challenge or training. Not everyone in the group will attend, but they may watch later. A destination event doesn't have to be limited to a 5 or 7-day event. Your events should be hosted around something you want to teach and something that will interest your members. Some people will do a one-day workshop. Your events can evolve the more you do them. Repeat the event every 90-days. Create a system so that you don't have to create something new every time. Likewise, choose something, a topic, that will give your clients a quick win when you choose the type of event you are creating. Your event has to be something that you want to deliver and want to deliver again. If you don't love it, your members won't either. Some of your members will watch the same event over and over again. They need to see things over and over again...at least seven times. Facebook challenge ideas Use reverse engineering to monetize your Facebook group events. Know your offer and what people need from you. What do they need to know or have done to be a good fit to work with you. For example, if you help someone craft a resume, you could do a challenge to identify the perfect job for them. This is helping people get a quick win. There is no strong-arming or hard-selling, it's giving people a quick win. Think of the offer with the end in mind, what you want to serve people with, and then what do they need to be successful in your offer and be the person who wants your offer. Sell at the end of the challenge. For the people who are ready and want more, share your offer and sell to them. Other people will hang out and continue to consume your content to get ready to buy. Selling is serving those who need more from you. Therefore, give your members the opportunity to buy from you. Consider your Facebook group as a house party Who do you want to invite? Think about what you want the group to look like? How do you want the members to feel? Remember it's your party and you get to decide what you want to do and what you want to share. Consider how you want to position yourself within the group. Market what is in the group, not the free group. The pod has grown a lot over the last year, and last week's guest (Chris Baddick), had a great idea for me to reintroduce myself to the audience and dive into my fatherhood story a bit. I thought it was a great idea and really enjoyed recording this episode. When I was trying to decide who to get to help me with this, Travis was the first name that came to mind. We not only discuss when Part 2 & 3 will be out but we talk about the process Doug goes through to get this songs from his head to recordings. Before we get to stories we have a great/refreshing talk about beer, mainly cheap beer which we here at the Beers With Bands podcast greatly enjoy! If you haven't had the chance to listen to "Antonym, Pt. 1" I highly suggest you do and be sure to keep an eye out for when Parts 2 & 3 drop!! This episode features the songs "One Night (I Regret Answering The Phone)" and "Rinse & Repeat" from the album Antonym. You can find Develmā'ker on all streaming sites and here: linktr.ee/devlmaker

What's the ONE Thing you can do such that by doing it, everything else will be easier or unnecessary? -- Live a Simple Life Even if Your is Complicated Way back in 2005, when Motivation To Move began, I found myself focused on creating the world's simplest success recipe when I said, "Stand up. Take a step. REPEAT!" My way of thinking told me that everything else would take care of itself if that's all I did. It has proven me correct again and again. But, say that you get yourself moving and are having challenges maintaining forward momentum? In The One Thing, Gary Keller writes, "Success is sequential, not simultaneous." In other words, it's not about doing everything at one time. It's about having one success at a time.  When you Stand up, take a step, and repeat, you are already guaranteed to have more success than the average human. But the magic happens when you define your focus. Gary Keller also has a suggestion that will help. Ask yourself one question… "What's the ONE Thing you can do such that by doing it, everything else will be easier or unnecessary?" Yes. It is a simple question, and you may attempt to complicate your answer. Please don't do it. Take the time to find an absolute simple focus. The reward for your persistence in simple will be massive progress and satisfaction.-- -- Join our Facebook Group at https://dailyboostpodcast.com/facebook Download the Perfect Week Planner at https://perfectweekplanner.com Visit our content hub to find more resources at https://motivationtomove.com Like the show? Chris Baddick joins Palmer this week on the pod for a conversation that focuses on untangling the whirlwind of life - and embracing the lessons learned along the way. Chris is a dad to two young girls, a former professional mountain biker, and a lover of all things outside. Things get deep quick in this week's episode, with a conversation about Chris' father-in-law being diagnosed with ALS and how that event pushed him and his wife to leave the life they knew so that they could run the family business and live closer to family. Chris and Palmer discuss cycling, spending time outside with kids, the "10-minute miracle" (it's not what you think it is), how Chris defines success, and much more. A big thanks to Chris for joining the conversation! In This Episode: Chris Baddick on Instagram Anthony Palmer on Instagram Palm Tree Pod Co. Listen to this Whinypaluza Wednesday Live vlog episode with The Greene Family! An extension of the weekly blog, join Rebecca and her family on the live vlog, brought to you here in case you missed it last week! This week: Crushing A Crazy Saturday For many parents, July can be crazy! Take it hour by hour, day by day, and try to remain calm. Recognizing when you are in an anxious state when things are hectic. Visual and mental exercises can help you calm. When the anxiety hits, STOP and employ the RE process: rewind, reset, refocus, replace, reframe, reflect, and rejoice. Practice it and it will become automatic. Instead of getting into the rushed and angry mode, talk to yourself and go over why the things you are doing are good things. Smile and enjoy the journey. Your anxious state initiates other states of being in those around you, that are not ideal. We can't do everything ourselves. We need a village. DELEGATE! Rephrasing the way you talk about your day and what you HAVE to do to what you GET to do, will change the way you feel about things. With your partner, try to be observant and recognize patterns of emotion in each other, and discuss how you can improve things together. Be confident in your ability to get it done. You will find you are much calmer getting through hectic times. Practice makes perfect. Repeat what worked, stop what didn't.
