My guest for today's episode is Josh Kerr – mile world record holder. On July 18th at the London Diamond League, in front of 60,000 people, Josh ran 3:42.66 to break Hicham El Guerrouj's record that had stood for 27 years, which was the longest-standing mile world record in the history of the event, and one that many believed might never fall. He did it by calling his shot four months in advance, locking himself into a specific date and venue before he had even finished rehabbing the calf he tore at the World Championships in Tokyo last September.Josh is already one of the most decorated middle-distance runners of his generation — world champion, two-time Olympic medalist, two-time world indoor champion at 3000 meters. But the world record puts him in a different category entirely. He is now the seventh Brit to hold the mile world record, and the first since Steve Cram in 1985, joining a line that runs through Roger Bannister, Seb Coe, Steve Ovett, and Steve Cram. The race commentator on the world feed, Tim Hutchings, called it the ballsiest world record in the history of middle-distance racing. It was hard to disagree. This conversation was recorded two days after the race, with Kyle Merber joining as co-host. We get into the full arc of Project 222. We go deep on the spike Brooks built specifically for his foot strike and what it actually contributed to the margin. Josh walks us through the whiteboard session in Albuquerque where they debated every split for an hour, the 1200m time trial two weeks out that converted the last remaining skeptics, the mental performance framework that kept him in flow state when 60,000 people were watching, and what was happening internally when he cracked that smile before the gun and went completely deaf with 150 meters to go.We also get into what Tokyo taught him, the cage door philosophy Danny Mackey lives by, and who the performance was really for…which is not the answer you might expect.____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSCORE: The CORE 2 Thermal Sensor takes the guessing out of heat training. Send us Fan MailChris Hobson, CEO of Rare Beauty Brands, home to Patchology and Kate Somerville, breaks down the business of beauty: the insight that turned Old Spice around, what it now costs to build a brand, how to handle dupes, and the metrics founders should track.Who is Chris Hobson? He started a clothing brand in college in Canada, then joined Procter & Gamble in brand management, running Scope, Folgers Canada, Old Spice, and Secret before an MBA and a career building brands. "As a brand manager, you get trained as sort of the mini general manager of your brand."How did he turn around Old Spice?By finding an insight instead of denying the brand's age. Research showed a woman would borrow her partner's deodorant from almost any brand except Old Spice. "We came up with this funny tongue in cheek positioning of Old Spice as the last bastion of masculinity." The brand went from a distant fifth to third in Canada, and the positioning went global. What makes consumers loyal to a beauty brand?Product quality first, emotional connection second. "When you get that magic of the consumer insight married to really high quality product, that's the foundation of a brand."What insight drives Patchology and Kate Somerville? Two very different ones. "The insight for a Patchology consumer is I want a moment of joy... the act of putting on the mask slows me down from my crazy day." The Kate Somerville consumer is buying certainty from a clinic with 20 years and 250,000 facials behind it.Should beauty brands chase trends?Only in ways authentic to the brand, though Hobson is candid about the pull. "The science is sort of suspect, but hey, it's a $10 million opportunity. How do we not do it?" Brands lose themselves when they go wholesale trend focused. Why did Patchology stop marketing its science?Because consumers buy results, not mechanisms. Hobson watched women's eyes glaze over at talk of ten times more ingredient delivery, then light up when the patches came off. "Turns out all she cares about is the better results."How long does it take to build a beauty brand?Longer than founders expect, now that ad costs have erased the cheap growth era. "You've got to be prepared to raise 10 to 20 million dollars at least, and spend 10 to 20 years on it. That's the new reality."Why is it harder for indie brands to scale now?The economics of attention changed. "The advertising prices have come up and the ROI has come down, and so it's harder for young brands to make that leap."How should a brand respond to dupes?By owning the category so copies feed demand back to the original. "When a brand copies us, a rising tide lifts all boats." Patchology is up over 20 percent this year.Do dupes steal customers from the original?Within limits set by price and psychology. "They're wearing it and they're knowing in their mind, I'm not really wearing Chanel." Hobson argues most of those consumers come back.Does getting into Target or Walmart grow a beauty brand? Not without demand behind it. "If you don't have the demand generation capability in place to move that product off the shelf... you're out." Accessibility is a high stakes strategy, not a shortcut. What metrics should new beauty founders track?Repeat purchase above all, measured by cohort rather than revenue share. "The way we make money as brands is repeat purchase... if I had to go out and acquire a customer every single time, I'd go out of business."What is the biggest business lesson of his career?People. "You want to hire the A level person, even if they're a little threatening to you, because they're gonna do the job way better than you would ever do it."Listen to the full episode with Chris Hobson of Rare Beauty Brands on Skin Anarchy, available wherever you get your podcasts.Shop Kate Sommerville and PatchologyDon't forget to subscribe to Skin Anarchy on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or your preferred platform.Reach out to us through email with any questions.Sign up for our newsletter!Shop all our episodes and products mentioned through our ShopMy Shelf!Support the show
Chris Chavez and Kyle Merber drop the full preview of the 2026 USATF Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Icahn Stadium in New York City, held Thursday through Sunday.CITIUS MAG will have daily end-of-day recap podcasts, a daily newsletter, and interviews on YouTube throughout the weekend.Watch on USATF.tv, Peacock, and NBC (Saturday and Sunday TV windows). Free tickets are available courtesy of Mayor Zohran Mamdani's 500-ticket giveaway for Thursday and Friday. If you live within a couple hours of Icahn Stadium, no excuses. Some of the events discussed in this episode:– Women's 10K (Thursday): Thin field after Karissa Schweizer scratched. Top eight from last year's USAs are not competing. Kyle's read: the scratch actually makes for a better race — more wide open.– Men's 10K (Thursday): 13 men entered. Grant Fisher versus Woody Kincaid as the headline matchup — Grant riding the momentum of his first Diamond League victory and doubling in the 5K.– Women's 100m (Friday): No MJW vs. Sha'Carri head-to-head.– Men's 100m (Friday): Noah Lyles vs. Kenny Bednarek. Noah has been everywhere at Fanatics Fest and FIFA World Cup events so the question is how much that toll has taken. Kenny knows this is a great opportunity to get one up on him.– Women's 3000m steeplechase (Saturday): One of the deepest American steeple fields of the season — seven athletes entered at 9:20 or faster. The fastest American time of the year comes out of this race.– Men's 3000m steeplechase (Saturday): Matt Wilkinson at 8:09 is the ninth-fastest man in the world and a clear favorite — remarkable given he was on crutches after last year's USAs and came back with a straight-up PR.– Men's 1500m (Saturday): Top five from last year not competing so the race opens up.– Women's 1500m (Saturday): The rest of the field will be watching Nikki rather than racing their own race, so it's becoming a Faith Kipyegon dynamic where others defer rather than attack.– Women's 800m (Sunday): Roisin Willis is the top seed and story of the year in the women's 800 — US indoor record holder, strong outdoor season, coming off a brilliant performance in Stockholm. Addy Wiley has a Diamond League victory.– Men's 800m (Sunday): Brandon Miller scratched after London. Cooper Lukhenhaus vs. Donavan Brazier as the top billing — two of three members of last year's World Championship team.– Women's 5K (Sunday): Parker Valby vs. Shelby Houlihan. These two have never raced. Parker has run 14:39 this season (going by herself, no one could hang). Shelby was fourth at Worlds, has been running 800s, 1500s, 2 miles, 10Ks — she's fit and she's an 8:15 person with the ultimate kick.– Men's 5K (Sunday): Grant Fisher the heavy favorite.____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSBANDIT: For 2026, Bandit is providing support for any Unsponsored athletes competing at the USATF Outdoor Championships. Chris Chavez and Preet Majithia reconvene to debrief the rest of the London Diamond League. Chris and Kyle Merber's emergency pod captured the immediate reaction; this episode is the follow-up, covering everything that got overshadowed by the world record. We discuss:– Preet in the building: Eight flights of stairs between the mixed zone and the seating area to watch Josh Kerr's world record run.– Post-race mixed zone: Josh got emotional exactly once — when Hannah England asked him about the mental toll of the entire process. His first beer since his December wedding was that Saturday night. For a Scotsman, six months without a beer is its own kind of suffering.– Was the world record overshadowed by the World Cup? The day before the World Cup final, England played France in a 6-4 third-place match the same evening. The next morning, BBC Sport's homepage had zero stories about Josh Kerr.– Does this get Josh knighted? Chris's very American question.– Does the mile world record mean as much globally as the 1500? Preet raises the question: the mile matters enormously in the US and UK, but does it land elsewhere?– Sawe vs. Kerr: which was bigger?– Women's 800m — Keely wins in 1:56.21: The pacemaker went through 400 in 56.8, suggesting they were targeting sub-1:55 but backed off — if she'd gone through in 55 flat as planned, it might have been a 1:55 race. Preet's context: this was Keely's 50th sub-2:00 performance and her nineteenth sub-1:57.– Would you rather have Josh's career or Keely's right now?The rest of London — the performances that got overshadowed:– Brandon Miller, 1:42.19 in the men's 800m: Nearly a full second PB, fifth all-time for Americans. Timed his kick off the final bend perfectly.– Julien Alfred, 21.66 in the women's 200: Third win in nine days.– Karsten Warholm, 46.61 in the 400 hurdles: World lead, first hurdles race win of the season, meeting record.– Ja'Kobe Tharp, 12.89 in the 110m hurdles: Fifth time under 13 seconds this season — the first athlete in history to go sub-13 in five consecutive 110m hurdles races.– Kayinsola Ajayi, 9.84 in the men's 100m: Beats world champion Oblique Seville for the second time this season — turns and looks at him as they cross the line.– Rai Benjamin, 44.05 PB in the men's 400m: Beats Matthew Hudson-Smith (44.18). First Diamond League 400m win.– Marileidy Paulino, 48.97 in the women's 400m: Fourth sub-49 this season.– Jess Hull wins the women's 3000m, 8:24.69: Fierce surge with 200 to go– Looking ahead: Josh Kerr to appear on the CITIUS MAG podcast Wednesday. Today with Robin J. Emdon: You left the customer's house and told them you'd have the quote to them by tomorrow. Then the installer had a question. Then the admin had a question. Then another customer called about a new job. And three days later, that quote still isn't written, and you're the one who feels guilty about it. Here's the truth Robin J. Emdon wants you to sit with: this isn't a discipline problem. Robin is the creator of GetResultsology®, The Science of Getting Stuff Done, known as The Procrastination Slayer and The Momentum Architect. After realizing in 2019 that procrastination had cost him years of his own life, a six year degree that took him ten, Robin spent the shutdown of 2020 doing what he does best: researching the research on neuroscience and behavioral psychology. What he found is that capable, competent people procrastinate for a hardwired, biological reason, not because they're lazy or disorganized. In this conversation, Robin breaks down the three neurotransmitters driving whether you follow through or freeze, and gives the research behind why accountability works: a private, unwritten goal gets done about 46 percent of the time, but add writing it down and real human accountability, and that number jumps to 76 percent. LuAnn connects that research directly to a practice built into every Exciting Windows conference, where members publicly commit to a six month goal, write it on a postcard, and get held to it when the next conference opens. If a quote, a pricing review, or a piece of your marketing has been sitting for longer than you'd like to admit, this episode gives you the actual mechanism behind why, and what to do about it starting this week. Emdon is the creator of GetResultsology® – The Science of Getting Stuff Done!, a practical, science-backed system that helps solopreneurs, creatives, and independent professionals overcome procrastination, build momentum, and follow through on the work that truly moves the needle. Nicknamed The Procrastination Slayer and The Momentum Architect, Robin has supported clients across the full spectrum of productivity challenges — from those paralysed at the starting line to high-performers seeking more clarity and speed. Robin's path began in his family's retail business, followed by life coach training in California in 2001. While raising two sons as a full-time single dad in South Devon, coaching took a back seat — until a turning point in 2019, when he realised how deeply procrastination had stalled his own goals. A six-year degree had taken him ten. When the world went quiet in 2020, Robin immersed himself in neuroscience, behavioural psychology, and productivity research. Out of that came GetResultsology® and his signature momentum formula: Do it today – Profit tomorrow – Repeat. Gravity - The Digital Agency Power Up : Weekly shows for digital marketing agency owners.
If you've ever stared at a blank page wondering what to write about, this one's for you.-- This weeks show is brought you by signaturestudio.me --This week I'm back with my friend Rachel Extance, an award-winning blogger and one of the best thinkers I know on how to make complicated things simple. We first spoke years ago about blogging. This time the conversation goes much further - AI, opinions, personal brand, and what happens when your content starts living in too many places at once.If you're a leader, consultant, coach or founder trying to build authority, this gives you a proper structure for what to say and where to say it.✳️ The imagination gap - Rachel's "editorial expansion prism" splits your business into five areas: identity and purpose, updates and activity, knowledge and insights, work and projects, and community and participation. Look there first and you'll never run out of things to say.✳️ Own your platform first - a blog post you create once can become an email, a LinkedIn post, a newsletter or a video script. Post it anywhere else first and you're stuck on the hamster wheel. Post it on your own website first and you're building an asset.✳️ Treat your business like a magazine - as things grow more complex, think in sections instead of one long list. Clear labels, search boxes and internal links stop people getting lost, and stop your own team duplicating each other's work.Rachel's amplifiers:✳️ Don't assume people know what you know - share the basics. What feels obvious to you is new information to most of your audience.✳️ Repeat yourself - only a small slice of your audience sees any single post. Say the same thing again. Nobody's counting.✳️ Jot things down as you go - keep a simple running list of conversations, questions and moments from your week. This morning a nutrition client texted Krysta to celebrate a win — not a number on the scale, but a Reel that took off in 20 minutes. That tiny moment is personal brand at work: when people feel who you are, they attach to everything you're about, not just what you're selling. In this third installment of the accidental July personal-brand series, Krysta goes a layer deeper on the one question that changes everything — what do you want to be known for? In this episode we dive into:• The difference between being visible and being recognizable• Why reputation is built through repetition (and why you're not repeating enough)• The house-and-doors metaphor that lets you talk about more than one thing• How to drill past the category to the association people actually rememberVisible vs. Recognizable• Posting more isn't the fix — plenty of people are visible and still completely forgettable• "What should I post?" comes with frustrated, behind, 37-minutes-into-a-doom-scroll energy• "What do I want to be known for?" gives that same post a reason and a job• Recognizable means people know what you stand for even when your topics changeReputation Is Built Through Repetition• Most people aren't close to repeating themselves enough — you get bored long before your audience does• That post you agonized over? They half-saw it once, in line at Whole Foods, mid-notification• Repeat the point of view, not the exact words — through different stories, examples, and client moments• The house metaphor: your topics are doors (entryways into your world), and your through line is the roof that makes every room belongGo One Layer Deeper Than the Category• "I want to be known for fitness" is a category, not a reputation• Push further: which kind, for whom, solving what specific problem, with what point of view• Krysta's example — not "fitness," but the coach who helps busy women stop putting everyone else first• This is identity work: what you want to be known for in your work, your body, your relationships, and your own headThis conversation reminds us that being known for something is bigger than your public reputation — it's your private identity too. Whether you're a founder tired of reinventing the wheel every single caption or someone who just wants to feel like themselves again online, this episode offers the reframe (and the permission) to stop chasing visibility and start building recognition. This Week's Exercise: Write "I want to be known for…" at the top of a note. Don't stop at the category. Keep pushing — for whom, solving what, with what point of view — until the answer is specific enough to actually repeat.FYX Tip of the Week: Pick one thing you want to be known for, then pick the proof. If it's "someone who follows through," don't just commit to three workouts — schedule them as protected time. Choose the identity, then choose the behavior that earns it.No Such Thing of the Week: There is no such thing as being known for something you only share once in a while. Reputation requires repetition — and if you only talk about it when you're selling, that's what people will remember you for.Want to workshop yours? Krysta's DMs are always open at @thekrystahuber.Looking for more on this topic? Antenatal corticosteroids are a MAJOR win in the management of preterm labor. An initial course of antenatal corticosteroids has been shown to reduce morbidity and mortality in patients with preterm prelabor rupture of membranes. For patients who remain undelivered after the initial course of antenatal corticosteroids, it is uncertain whether a booster course of antenatal corticosteroids reduces neonatal morbidity or increases the infection risk. The ACOG, in its current guidance, has concluded that the current evidence is insufficient to make a recommendation. Corticosteroids, especially at the doses given, are also powerful immunosuppressants. When you administer that first course, you accept a minor, calculated risk for a massive, proven benefit. But when you introduce a second course of steroids into a uterine environment that has already been ruptured and exposed to vaginal flora for weeks, you are pouring fuel on the fire. PLUS, the environment for the fetus with prolonged preterm prelabor rupture of membranes is unique. PPPROM, the chronic exposure to ruptured membranes and the resultant oligohydramnios is theorized to trigger a kind of stress response in the fetus- so the baby may make their own endogenous corticosteroid flare. So, rescue steroids after an initial course of steroids in PPROM cases has remained controversial but we have updated data that has provided new insights. In this episode, we will highlight an RCT from 2023 and a more recent systematic review and meta-analysis from May 2026 on this very subject. Listen in for details. 1. There is no shortage of founders who have read Principles or Traction. Far fewer have built their business around what those books teach, week after week, when it is inconvenient to do so. In this episode, Marcus Cauchi speaks with Keith Gillispie, founder of REI Automated, about the discipline of turning ideas into working systems, and why that discipline is harder than the ideas themselves. Why this conversation matters Most conversations about business systems focus on tools. This one focuses on behaviour. Keith didn't just read about principles, operating systems and delegation frameworks. He applied them, tested them, and kept refining them long after the novelty wore off. For founders who are drowning in advice but starved of consistent execution, this episode offers something more useful than another framework: a working model of what it actually looks like to follow through. Major discussion points Discipline over information. Keith names two books that fundamentally shaped his business: Principles by Ray Dalio and Traction by Gino Wickman. What sets his account apart is not the reading list but what he did with it: he built explicit, testable principles into daily operations, and adopted Wickman's Entrepreneur Operating System (EOS) as the structural backbone of how his business runs. Writing and testing SOPs. Keith's method for creating a standard operating procedure is deliberately unglamorous. Do the task. Write down exactly what you did. Follow your own instructions the next time and notice everything you missed. Repeat this three to seven times until the gaps close, then record a video walking through the process. Only then does a task become fit to hand to another person, or to an AI agent. Where AI should not go. Keith runs a company that sells agentic AI voice agents for real estate sellers, so he has a commercial incentive to promote automation. He was candid about its limits. When he tested his own AI on a negotiation for his own property, reaching the point where the AI pressed him on price, he found the experience uncomfortable. His conclusion: AI handles information well, but emotional, high-stakes conversations still need a human. Hiring as a discipline, not an event. REI Automated filters candidates roughly one hundred to one. Keith uses the GWC framework from Traction (get it, want it, capacity for it) to decide not just who to hire, but who to keep, and applies a consistent SOP-based interview and onboarding process across every role. Cadence over intensity. Rather than reviewing performance monthly, Keith's team submits short daily and weekly reports, which are read and responded to using Claude, and quarterly goals ("rocks") drawn from EOS. He argues that weekly management gives a business fifty opportunities a year to course-correct, against twelve for a business run monthly. The absence test. Keith takes one week off every month with no calls, texts or Slack messages. During a recent house move that disrupted his usual routine for roughly a month, revenue held within a thousand dollars of the prior month. He was candid that the business currently sustains itself well in his absence, though he is less certain it grows without him. AI as a thought partner, not a shortcut. Keith's team members are expected to bring Claude fully into their process, including drafting their own SOPs when Keith does not have time to write one himself. He was clear this only works because the AI has deep context on the business and because his people bring genuine critical thinking to the exchange, rather than treating it as a way to avoid thinking. A moment of disagreement. Marcus challenged Keith's use of performance improvement plans, arguing that everyone should effectively be on one from day one, and that needing to formalise one is often a sign management has let something slide. Keith pushed back, drawing a distinction between personal development and performance accountability, and defended his position with a clear rationale. Practical takeaways Before automating or delegating any task, do it yourself first and write the SOP from direct experience. Follow your own SOP repeatedly until you have found and closed the gaps, then record it on video. Review your business weekly, not monthly. You get roughly four times as many chances to correct course. Keep team communication in shared channels rather than direct messages, so ideas get scrutinised by more than one person. Test whether your business can run without you before you assume it can. Use AI to draft and challenge your thinking, not simply to execute tasks you have not fully worked out yourself. Memorable quotes "Sometimes in order to be helpful, you have to say the hard thing." "When we're dealing with information, AI is fine. When we're dealing with emotion, that needs a human touch." "You always have to take away before you can add." Books and resources mentioned Principles by Ray Dalio Traction by Gino Wickman Essentialism by Greg McKeown The Obstacle Is the Way by Ryan Holiday The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey Guest biography Keith Gillispie is the founder and CEO of REI Automated, which provides education, software and coaching to real estate investors on building automated, systemised businesses. He spent eight years on active duty with the US Marine Corps, during which he began investing in real estate and developed the systems-first approach that now underpins his companies. A bombshell new study has dropped, and it confirms what Seattle residents have long suspected: this city is the most dangerous major city in America for overnight home burglaries. With a staggering rate of 234.6 break-ins per 100,000 residents, Seattle has claimed the top spot on a list no city wants to lead — and under Katie Wilson's leadership, there is no plan to fix it.This isn't a random fluctuation. It's the predictable result of decades of progressive soft-on-crime policies that have hollowed out law enforcement, crippled the judicial system, and left families sleeping with one eye open. Repeat offenders cycle through the courts without consequence while law-abiding homeowners install Wyze cameras and barricade their garages just to feel safe in their own neighborhoods. And as Sean notes, most victims don't even bother calling the police anymore — because nothing ever happens. It isn't just Seattle. Spokane also landed in the top five most dangerous cities in the nation for overnight burglaries, confirming this is a statewide failure of leadership, not an isolated incident. Washington is leading the country in the wrong direction, and the people paying the price are the ones who can't afford to leave.Subscribe to @reasonablenews for daily commentary on the stories the mainstream media won't cover straight.#Seattle #Crime #PublicSafetyGO PREMIUM WITH REASONABLE+ FOR UNCENSORED ACCESS

Chris Chavez and Preet Majithia are back for a packed episode. With Preet heading to the stadium on Saturday for the London Diamond League and the aftermath of the Monaco Diamond League, there's a lot to discuss:– World Cup check-in: England squeaked through in a stressful Saturday night match that Preet describes as not fun to watch.– CITIUS MAG x New Balance at the 2026 USATF Outdoor Championships– Running's baby boom– Emmanuel Wanyonyi, 1000m world record, 1:11.83: Monaco Diamond League. Broke Noah Ngeny's 27-year-old record of 1:11.96 set in Rieti in 1999. Can he inch closer to David Rudisha's 800m WR in London?– Julien Alfred, 21.51 in the women's 200m: Third-fastest women's 200 in history behind Flo-Jo (21.34) and Shericka Jackson (21.41). Why this one is not a shocker and we're living in the best year of the women's 200m with her, Elaine Thompson-Herah, Gabby, MJW, Shericka, plus Adaejah Hodge.– Collen Kebinatshipi goes 43.44 and is now on the conversation for the men's 400m world record, if he can maybe run the first 200m a bit more aggressively. The dream matchup is still Kebinatshipi vs. Samuel Ogazi.– Masai Russell's dominance: The five fastest women's 100 hurdles times of 2026 all belong to Masai Russell. Off the final hurdle, she sometimes begins to celebrate slightly before the line — that tiny relaxation may be the difference between her and the world record.– Agnes Ngetich runs 8:08.95 for No. 3 all-time in the 3000m, but what's up with Faith Kipyegon?– Graham Blanks showcased his best kick against pros in the 5000m in Monaco, which he nearly won.– More from the Monaco Diamond League– Russia was reinstated by the International Olympic Committee but there is still more to be sorted by Seb Coe and World Athletics' stance to keep Russian and Belarusian athletes out until the war in Ukraine ends– Celebrating records by decades rather than all-time to sidestep the doping era problems– Unpacking Josh Kerr's London mile world record attempt now that the full start list has been revealed. Preet argues that most of the field will just get on the fast train with Yared Nuguse as the potential spoiler if Kerr falters. Chris wants Hobbs Kessler to play spoiler from the gun by fighting for the front early.– The women's 800m has been billed as Keely Hodgkinson's world record attempt for months but it should be framed as a comeback race for the Olympic champion. The field is legitimately dangerous with Georgia Hunter-Bell and Femke Bol.+ More____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSBANDIT: For 2026, Bandit is providing support for any Unsponsored athletes competing at the USATF Outdoor Championships. Since discovering intermittent fasting in 2020 through a WW community message board, she's reclaimed her health, shed 20 pounds, and found freedom from sugar addiction that haunted her for decades. Despite multiple attempts and setbacks, Belle's journey reveals a powerful truth: the key to lasting change is understanding your own body and making honest, sustainable choicesIn this episode, Belle shares how intermittent fasting transformed her relationship with food and her body. She discusses her long history with weight struggles, from childhood dieting to lap band surgery, and how fasting and giving up sugar finally broke her cycle. You'll discover how she navigates special occasions like cruises, manages cravings, and uses simple tricks—like parking further away or tracking her progress—to stay aligned with her health goals. Belle emphasizes the importance of tuning in to your body's signals, avoiding diet obsession, and crafting a personalized approach that works for YOU.Gin and Belle break down practical insights including her experiment of one—trying different strategies until she found what truly sticks—and how the "quietness" of fasting creates space for self-awareness and honest self-talk. If you've ever felt trapped in the cycle of dieting, or overwhelmed by how to finally get control over sugar cravings, this episode offers hope, clarity, and a reminder: your body's resilience is greater than you think. Belle's advice to new intermittent fasters is to be patient, listen to your body, and trust the process, as reclaiming your health isn't about perfection—it's about patience, listening, and gentle tweaks.Join Gin in the new Fast Feast Repeat app for The Grown-Up Year: 52 Weeks to Listen, Play, and Nourish, as well as a growing collection of intermittent fasting resources. “You just have to have that confidence in anything you do. That was the biggest thing that had driven me… Having that extreme level of confidence and delusion. You want it to seem hard, but you don't want it to seem impossible.”My guest for today's episode is Marco Langon, the 21-year-old distance runner out of the state of New Jersey who just finished his career at Villanova and signed a professional contract with Diodora. He made his pro debut at the Pre Classic and is currently in Germany as he gets started on his European circuit tour. His resume is strong from his four years at Villanova. He ran a personal best of 3:32 in the 1500m, 7:34 in the 3K, and 13:05 in the 5K, all which put him in the top four in NCAA history. He was at the center of some of the most dramatic finishes of the past season: He dove at the finish line in his duel against Habtom Samuel at BU, and he anchored Villanova to the 4xmile title at Penn Relays after some hotly contested back to back days against Oregon and their anchor, Simeon Birnbaum. His story is pretty impactful. He grew up watching his mom, a lunch lady, navigate a divorce and make ends meet for him and his sister on a single income, and he was stocking shelves in a convenience store freezer while in high school, crying because he knew that that couldn't be his life. He's someone who has been committed to exploring how good he can be at this sport because it could lead to him providing for his family. He signed with Diadora specifically because they took a chance on him before anyone else did when he signed his NIL deal. His personality is not one that necessarily fits into some of the bigger brands marketing strategy and he's quick to admit that himself. So, in this chat, we get into all of that from the moments in that QuickCheck freezer that made the dream feel urgent, his full ride to Villanova, what he's taking from coach Marcus O'Sullivan and what they also butted heads on, the Penn Relays anchor that he describes as the most relieved he's ever felt rather than the happiest, the 1500m versus 5K debate that he's still processing, and what he's looking forward to in his first season as a pro.____________Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavezGuest: Marco Langon | @marcolangonProduced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSBANDIT: For 2026, Bandit is providing support for any Unsponsored athletes competing at the USATF Outdoor Championships. We explain that our mind is already repeating messages all day, and that many of those messages increase tension in the body.We discuss why affirmations are not meant to deny reality or force overly positive statements. Instead, we use them to gently shift attention toward thoughts that the nervous system can actually स्वीकार or tolerate, because repeated attention can shape perception and the body's response. We focus on starting with believable phrases that feel possible rather than overwhelming. Examples include taking things one moment at a time, being with a feeling and still breathing, or learning to slow down. We describe these as bridge thoughts that soften internal pressure instead of creating more resistance. We also talk about practicing this in daily life without treating it like another task. The aim is to notice urgency when it shows up, introduce steadier thoughts, and create a little more space between reactions. We close with a set of gentle affirmations and encourage noticing how they feel in the body.#anxiety, #mindfulness, #affirmations, #podcast, #mentalhealth, #calm, #selfcare, #personalgrowth, #stressrelief, #relaxation, #healing, #meditation, #peace, #wellness, #mentalwellness, #innerpeace, #anxietyrelief, #selflove, #gentleliving, #slowdown, #mindfulliving, #nervoussystem, #timepressure, #urgency, #breath, #practices, #support, #coaching, #aloha, #jackkornfield, #anxietycoachespodcast, #ginaryan, #bridgethoughts, #safetypatterns, #nervoussystemregulation, #stoprushing, #presentmoment, #summercalm, #mentalspace, #overcomingurgency #ACPSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

When your child is anxious, lonely or flat… your instinct is to comfort them. But what if the fastest way to help them feel better isn’t self-care — it’s helping someone else? New research reveals a powerful mental health shift that happens when kids practise kindness outward instead of inward. The results are surprising — and incredibly practical for everyday family life. In this Doctor’s Desk episode, we unpack the science behind the “kindness paradox” and show you exactly how to use it at home this week. KEY POINTS A study of 777 adults found helping others reduced depression, anxiety and loneliness. Self-kindness reduced depression — but didn’t touch anxiety or loneliness. Kindness toward others builds connection, and connection is at the core of mental health. Feeling like you matter changes everything. Small acts (compliments, thank you notes, cookie drops) create powerful emotional shifts. Teaching kids outward kindness may be one of the simplest wellbeing tools available. QUOTE OF THE EPISODE “The fastest way to feel better about yourself is to help someone else feel better about their life.” RESOURCES MENTIONED Study published in Emotion on prosocial vs self-focused kindness interventions The concept of “mattering” in psychological wellbeing research ACTION STEPS FOR PARENTS Ask at dinner: “Who did you help today?” Plan one small act of kindness as a family this week. Encourage compliments to strangers, teachers or friends. Write one handwritten thank-you note together. Repeat it next week — aim for three acts of kindness. Chris Chavez, Kyle Merber and Preet Majithia recap all of the major action at the 2026 Prefontaine Classic. Streaks ended, young stars arrived, and the whole distance-and-sprint order got shaken up in a single afternoon in Eugene.Discussed in this episode:– Tate Taylor wins the men's 200m in 19.75 into a -0.9 headwind: The biggest surprise of the meet. Tebogo was the overwhelming favorite. We discuss why it's different from the Gout Gout 19.67. Taylor confirmed he will not be running USAs, and the World U20 Championships in Eugene in August is now the most anticipated junior sprint matchup of the year.– Nikki Hiltz wins the mile in 4:17.49: Ends Faith Kipyegon's five-year, 24-race unbeaten streak in 1500m/mile events on the track, dating to a loss to Sifan Hassan in Florence on June 10, 2021. – This was not peak Faith Kipyegon; Faith posted on Instagram after: “Since Shanghai, I've been dealing with a hamstring injury, but the last two weeks have been a step in the right direction.”– Cam Myers wins the Bowerman Mile in 3:46.06: First Australian to win the Bowerman Mile. Six days after running 3:28.00 in Paris, he sat in, took control at 600m, and closed the final 100 in 13.1 — the fastest of the race. Yared Nuguse second. Ethan Strand third in 3:46.97 after being well back at the bell.– Kyle's argument: please stop making athletes announce signings right before major races.– Josh Kerr, London Diamond League, July 18th: Ten days out from his world record attempt. He's been living in his altitude tent for twelve hours a day, writing for The Telegraph, and posting workouts that Kyle described as “giving serious hope”– Lilian Odira beats Keely Hodgkinson in the women's 800m, 1:56.19 to 1:56.73.– World record watch for London: Keely's situation two weeks out makes any WR talk look ambitious. She's still on the start list.– Melissa Jefferson-Wooden beats Sha'Carri Richardson in the women's 100m, 10.78 to 10.79: MJW extends her unbeaten 100m streak to ten races since the Paris Olympic final.– Sha'Carri's start looked better than it has at points this season. AI Can Write User Stories... So What Does the Product Owner Do Now?If artificial intelligence can write user stories...What exactly is the Product Owner supposed to do?It's a fair question.Over the past year, we've watched AI tools generate acceptance criteria, organize backlogs, summarize stakeholder interviews, identify duplicate requirements, estimate effort, draft release notes, and even suggest Sprint Goals.Tasks that once required hours can now be completed in minutes. Some see that as a threat.I see it as an opportunity.Because for years, many organizations unintentionally reduced the Product Owner role to backlog management.Write stories.Prioritize tickets.Attend meetings.Answer developer questions.Repeat.Those activities are important. But they were never the reason the Product Owner role was created. The Product Owner exists for one purpose above all others. To maximize value. Not backlog size. Not story count. Not velocity.Value.That's where artificial intelligence changes everything.- [website] https://www.agiledad.com/- [instagram] https://www.instagram.com/agile_coach/- [facebook] https://www.facebook.com/RealAgileDad/- [Linkedin] https://www.linkedin.com/in/leehenson/

“A big part of it was finding the right environment, the right people, and the right team that I was excited to be a part of.”My guest for today's episode is someone we've had a great joy of watching develop from high school through the collegiate ranks. Gary Martin is now a professional runner. He's signing with Brooks and joining the Brooks Beasts, and it feels like it was just yesterday that we were sitting down with him at the Armory after his New Balance Nationals mile victory. For those who've been following along with CITIUS over the last couple of years, you know that Gary is an athlete that we've propped up and he's even written for CITIUS MAG. So now, four years later after competing for the University of Virginia, his resume speaks for itself. He has a 3:48 mile PB from the Millrose Games (second fastest in collegiate history), he has an ACC cross country title, and a DMR national championship. In this conversation, we get into why he chose the Beasts, what he asked Danny Mackey about in his first meeting with him, the move to Seattle, the training progression in college, and the self-belief that will suit him as a professional runner. Plus, we also get into what his hopes and expectations are for his pro debut this weekend in the Bowerman Mile at the Prefontaine Classic.____________Host: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavez Guest: Gary Martin | @gary.martin20Produced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSBANDIT: For 2026, Bandit is providing support for any Unsponsored athletes competing at the USATF Outdoor Championships. Read OnlineFaith Born of EncounterThomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” But Thomas said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nailmarks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” John 20:24–25Though Saint Thomas is best remembered for doubting Jesus' Resurrection, God used him in glorious ways. Because God is all-powerful, even Thomas' doubt was transformed into a source of grace for the Church and a model of true faith and conversion. In Thomas, we see the journey from doubt to faith, from absence to confession, from fear to peace—an invitation for each of us to make the same journey.Saint Thomas, called Didymus—meaning “Twin”—was not present when the risen Christ first appeared to the assembled Apostles. His absence was no accident but part of God's providential plan. When the other disciples testified, “We have seen the Lord,” Thomas struggled to believe. His absence symbolizes the effect of isolation from the Church or from an active life of prayer, which can leave us vulnerable to doubt and disbelief. His heart demanded tangible proof: “Unless I see the mark of the nails… I will not believe.” In this, Thomas articulates a cry that echoes in every human heart: we long for certainty, yet struggle to trust without the proof we demand. One week later—on the day now celebrated as Divine Mercy Sunday—Jesus once again entered the locked room and stood among them, radiating peace: “Peace be with you.” His first words were directed not to the whole group, but to Thomas, addressing his wounded faith with tender love: “Put your finger here and see my hands… bring your hand and put it into my side.” Jesus does not shame Thomas; He invites him. He invites him to touch the very wounds that conquered death, to enter into the mystery of Divine Mercy not only intellectually, but physically and spiritually. After being confronted by the Living Christ, Thomas is transformed. In that pivotal moment, he prays one of the greatest confessions of faith in all of Scripture: “My Lord and my God!” With profound clarity, he proclaims the divinity of Christ. The doubting disciple becomes the believing Apostle, who will later be sent forth to bear witness to the ends of the earth.Thomas' journey invites us to reflect on our own. Like Thomas, we are sometimes absent from encounters with the risen Lord. Failure to pray daily, to attend Mass faithfully, to confess our sins, to nourish our souls through spiritual reading, adoration, retreats, or parish missions can isolate us from Christ and diminish our faith. Absence from these means of grace can open the door to spiritual doubt and weakness. If these struggles are familiar to you, take heart in the example of Saint Thomas. If your faith has faltered—especially if you experience serious doubts—or if worldly concerns have drawn you away from the life of grace, then let Thomas' prayer become your own: “My Lord and my God!” He professed faith in what he saw, so that we might profess faith in Christ whom we do not yet see. That simple little prayer, prayed with the certainty of faith and with sincere passion in the heart, sparks greater faith and brings us the clarity we need.Reflect today on Thomas being absent from Jesus' first Resurrection appearance on Easter Sunday. Try to feel his disappointment and doubt. Thomas carried those feelings for an entire week until Jesus appeared again. See yourself in him by identifying any times you have felt the same. Then move forward to the moment, one week later, when Thomas was present as Jesus appeared to them. With him, listen to Jesus invite you to touch His wounds. Profess with Thomas, “My Lord and my God!” Repeat that prayer and try to sense Thomas' newfound passionate belief. It is that belief our Lord desires from all of us who do not see with our eyes but come to know Him in our spirit. My Lord and my God! I do believe in You and profess that belief with all my heart. When I struggle with my faith, when I falter, or when I become distracted from my life of prayer and devotion, please remind me of Saint Thomas. Place his words repeatedly on my lips so that I may continuously cry out with him, “My Lord and my God!” Saint Thomas, pray for us. Jesus, I trust in You.Image: St Thomas by Lawrence OP, CC BY-NC-ND 2.0.Source: Free RSS feed from catholic-daily-reflections.com — Copyright © 2026 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. In near-perfect conditions following a week of brutal French heat, Sunday's Paris Diamond League produced three Diamond League records. In this episode:– Audrey Werro came to Paris explicitly targeting the women's 800m world record and ran a personal best of 1:53.80 — a Diamond League record, meet record, world lead, and Swiss national record. She's now the only woman ever with multiple sub-1:54 performances (three of them, all this season). The world record is 1:53.28, set by Jarmila Kratochvílová in 1983. Werro is 0.52 back.– Femke Broeders-Bol's 800m transition is real. The reigning 400m hurdles world champion ran 1:55.60 in the 800m — a massive personal best — finishing second behind Werro's Diamond League record. Her move to the 800m is no longer an experiment.– Cam Myers ran 3:28.00 in the Paris Diamond League 1500m — a personal best by over a second, the 27th fastest time in history, and faster than Jakob Ingebrigtsen at the same age (Jakob ran 3:28.68 at 20). Myers beat a field that included 3:27 man Azeddine Habz and 2025 World Championship medalists Jake Wightman and Reynold Cheruiyot– What it all means for the Bowerman Mile at the Prefontaine Classic– Grant Fisher won the Paris Diamond League 5000m in 12:54.80, edging Jacob Krop (12:55.22) and Andreas Almgren (12:55.38) in a stacked field where ten athletes broke 13:00. The win also marked the fifth Diamond League victory by an American men's mid-distance runner in 2026 — the most ever in a single year, with seven meets still remaining.– Marco Arop dominates the men's 800m. He confirmed after the race that he intends to go for the record this year: “Clearly I'm in shape for it”– Trayvon Bromell beats Noah Lyles and there's Twitter comments afterward by the Olympic champion– Jamal Britt runs 12.89 PB in Paris — his 10th win of 2026, his 12th meet since April– Collen Kebinatshipi runs 43.54 Diamond League record in Paris. + More highlights and shout-outs from around the running world including Western States.____________Hosts: Chris Chavez | @chris_j_chavez + Preet Majithia | @preet_athletics + Mac Fleet | @macfleetProduced by: Jasmine Fehr | @jasminefehr____________SUPPORT OUR SPONSORSBANDIT: For 2026, Bandit is providing support for any Unsponsored athletes competing at the USATF Outdoor Championships.
