I am not behind. I am exactly where I am." "The things I haven't finished do not cancel out the things I have done." "I am allowed to rest without earning it first." "I am not behind in life. I am living it exactly on time." "The voice that tells me I am never enough is not the truth. It's just an old habit, and habits can change." "I release the need to prove myself today. I am allowed to simply exist."3 Daily Caring Tips for a Happier LifeThe Evidence Log: Tonight, write down just one thing you did today that had everything to do with being human and nothing to do with achievement (e.g., a kind word, a deep breath, or simply showing up tired). The Permission Pause: The next time you think, "I should have done more," stop and ask yourself, "Says who?" Challenge the authority of that old habit before you believe it.The Score Reset: At the end of the day, instead of asking if you did enough, ask yourself, "Was I kind to myself today?" That is a scorecard you can actually win.Share the Peace If this ten-minute sanctuary helped you put down your heavy weights today, please take a quick moment to share this episode on your social media. This is an excerpt from E175 of the Thinking Mind Podcast. In this episode, Alex is joined by Professor Kalina Christoff Hadjiilieva, Professor of Psychology at the University of British Columbia and one of the world's leading researchers on the neuroscience of thought. We explore why our relationship with thought may be one of the most important factors in our wellbeing. Kalina explains why spontaneous thought — mind-wandering, daydreaming, creativity and even dreaming — is far more important than modern productivity culture often allows. We discuss the difference between healthy mind-wandering and repetitive rumination, and what happens in the brain seconds before a thought enters conscious awareness. We also explore meditation, the unconscious mind, creativity, habits of thought, the cost of avoiding the past, and how we can begin to build a better relationship with our own minds.Interviewed by Dr. Alex Curmi. Looking for daily inspiration? Get a quote from the top leaders in the industry in your inbox every morning. Alex Sheen is the Founder and CEO of because I said I would. Inspired by the legacy of his father, Alex transformed a simple promise card into a global social movement that has distributed more than 15.5 million promise cards across 178 countries. Today, the nonprofit focuses on teaching resiliency skills and mental health habits through schools, prisons, workshops, and its 92-acre camp and retreat center in Ohio. In this interview, Alex talks about making promises, resiliency and mental health, and recognizing negative thinking. Making promises “I respect you too much to make a promise I can't keep.” Alex explains that promises are more than commitments. They are reflections of personal integrity. What began as a tribute to his father's reputation for always following through has evolved into a philosophy centered on intentional accountability. He shares how the simple act of writing a promise on a card creates a level of seriousness that spoken words often lack. He also discusses the importance of having the courage to say no when necessary. Rather than making commitments that are unlikely to happen, Alex encourages people to focus on completing the promises that truly matter. By establishing healthy boundaries and prioritizing meaningful commitments, individuals can avoid compounding disappointment while strengthening trust with others. Resiliency and mental health “It really is about the resiliency skills and mental health habits that we need to face the adversities of life.” Alex describes how because I said I would has expanded beyond promise cards into an organization dedicated to helping people navigate life's challenges. Through workshops, educational programs, and its camp and retreat center, the nonprofit teaches practical skills such as stress management, accountability, self-control, and goal setting to students, families, organizations, and community groups. He also reflects on the pandemic, when many of the organization's programs came to an abrupt halt. Rather than accepting defeat, the team shifted its mission by producing face masks for hospitals, supporting families affected by COVID-19, creating online resiliency courses, and ultimately investing in a permanent retreat center designed to sustain the organization's impact for generations. Recognizing negative thinking “You can have thoughts and not believe them.” As a practical takeaway, Alex introduces four common negative thinking patterns: focusing on the negative, all-or-nothing thinking, catastrophizing, and negative self-labeling. While these thought patterns are natural, he explains that recognizing them is the first step toward preventing them from controlling our decisions and emotions. Instead of reacting automatically, Alex encourages leaders and individuals alike to pause and identify which thinking pattern they may be experiencing. Simply acknowledging, "I'm catastrophizing," or "I'm focusing on the negative," creates space to respond more thoughtfully. This simple habit, which the organization teaches in schools, prisons, and retreats, helps build emotional resilience in both everyday life and leadership. Alex can be reached on LinkedIn, and encourages listeners to visit becauseisaidiwould.org to learn more about the nonprofit and camp.becauseisaidiwould.org to learn more about its retreat center. This episode features host Dave Asprey joined by Luke Storey, a motivational speaker, spiritual teacher, and host of the top-rated podcast The Life Stylist, which has surpassed 10 million downloads. Luke is widely regarded as a pioneer in health and wellness, known for articulating transformative principles around spirituality, addiction recovery, and mental, emotional, and physical health optimization. Together, Dave and Luke explore why getting sober and staying sober rarely comes down to willpower alone. They unpack how addiction often shows up as biology, trauma, nervous system dysregulation, and learned coping patterns, not just substance use. The conversation expands the definition of addiction to include socially accepted behaviors like alcohol, nicotine, work, scrolling, and distraction. The discussion moves through long term sobriety, discernment around substances, the role of spirituality in recovery, and how people break free from compulsive loops by addressing root causes instead of chasing short term fixes. Nuanced topics like abstinence, nicotine, psychedelics, and altered states are explored with clear boundaries around safety, intention, and stability. You'll learn: • Why willpower alone fails to sustain sobriety • How addiction is driven by nervous system wiring and trauma • Why socially accepted habits can still be addictive • How to tell the difference between craving and intuition • What supports long term recovery beyond abstinence • Why identity and environment matter more than discipline • How sobriety creates clarity, resilience, and freedom over time Thank you to our sponsors! -TRU KAVA | Go to https://trukava.com/ and use code DAVE10 for 10% off. -Caldera + Lab | Go to https://calderalab.com/DAVE and use code DAVE at checkout for 20% off your first order. -Vibrant Blue Oils | Grab a full-size bottle for over 50% off at https://vibrantblueoils.com/dave. BREAK YOUR NEGATIVE THINKING (Best Motivational Speech For Positive Thinking) begins with a powerful reminder that perspective is everything. In this opening segment, Eddie reflects on the illusion of false summits, those moments when you think you've made it, only to realize there's more to climb. What seems like failure or stagnation is often just life testing your endurance and focus. By shifting how we interpret those moments, we break free from negative thinking and uncover the strength hidden in the struggle. This episode reminds us that progress isn't about the peak, it's about learning to see the beauty, growth, and meaning in the climb itself.More from Eddie Pinero:Wear the mindset: www.AGNS.lifestyleMonday Motivation Newsletter: https://www.eddiepinero.com/newsletterYour World Within Podcast: https://yourworldwithin.libsyn.com/Stream these tracks on Spotify - https://spoti.fi/2BLf6pBInstagram - @your_world_within and @IamEddiePineroTikTok - your_world_withinFacebook - https://www.facebook.com/YourworldwithinTwitter - https://www.twitter.com/IamEddiePineroBusiness Inquiries - http://www.yourworldwithin.com/contact#liveinspired #yourworldwithin #motivation
