Rose Lounsbury is a simplicity coach, speaker, and author of the book, Less: Minimalism, For Real.   Rose's minimalist journey started with being an overwhelmed mom, and I really mean overwhelmed. She is the mom of triplets.   She'd come home from work, start her second shift of being a mom, and finally get her 3 2-year-olds to bed just in time to spend her last waking hour cleaning up the mess from the day. Rose was tired of this but didn't know what to do until a friend mentioned minimalism.   She immediately resonated with the lifestyle and spent the next year purging 70% of her possessions.  Rose found this lifestyle so impactful that she began applying simplification into other areas of her life such as money and her career.   Now, Rose helps overwhelmed people create open spaces in their homes, workspaces, and most importantly, their minds, by letting go of the excess stuff that gets in the way.   We talked extensively about how the concept of simplifying can be applied to different areas of your life. We also start the conversation discussing overachievement and the negative impact associated with defining yourself by how much you have gotten done.   Show Notes: [2:23] Betting a haircut on a accomplishing a goal [9:33] Rose's struggle with overachievement and what she did about it [24:14] How triplets lead to home organizing [30:26] Getting exposed to minimalism  [33:01] Rose's hardest step: letting go of her teaching supplies [42:03] Minimalism vs simplicity [47:17] How using a budget simplified her finances   Mentions: E33 - Lucy Milligan Wahl   More of Rose: Less: Minimalism, For Real by Rose Lounsbury Website   More of Justin & The Struggle is Real: Show Notes: https://justinpeters.co/thestruggleisreal/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/justinleepeters/

Today's Episode with Rose Lounsbury:Rose Lounsbury is a minimalism and simplicity coach who offers ways for people to delve into a life of simplicity and start letting go, creating peace of mind. Rose offers a 6 week bootcamp that focuses on 6 different areas of your home to declutter, as well as personal coaching. She is also the author of Less - Minimalism for Real which is available for purchase on Amazon! Her journey to minimalism started when she worked from 7-4 at her teaching job and then came home to be a mom to her 2 year old children. She felt very exhausted from this schedule and realized that she had to let go of things that she doesn't need to give herself freedom and create a peaceful environment. Less is more!Rose made this transition from a teacher to a simplicity coach because she knew it was time for a change. She wanted to spend more time with her kids and have a fulfilling career for herself so this new simplicity in her life allowed her to explore a new lifestyle and career.Rose had a blog for 2 years and had some people who were interested in hiring her as a coach if she were to ever make a business out of it. She recommends reaching out to people you know and trust, and building from there.A monumental moment for Rose and her career is her TED talk from 2018 that has almost half a million views. This opportunity gave her even more speaking opportunities and her business growth increased. When COVID-19 happened, Rose made her business 100% online and was able to reach more clients and grow her business more than ever. It is important to connect with the people who you want to serve. If you want to learn more about a group of people who you want to help, there is no better way to find out exactly how to serve them than by talking to them directly. In order to help other people fully, you have to know yourself first. Once you are in touch with yourself, you will be able to reach people. Self-care habits that help make a big difference for Rose are journaling morning and night, practicing gratitude, and meditation. The inner work is just as important as the outer work. You can find out more about Rose at her www.roselounsbury.comHot seat answers! Apple or Android: AndroidFavorite book: Breaking To Kill a MockingbirdFavorite movie: The Legend of Ricky BobbyApp you can't live without: Google PassBest album: Jewel - Pieces of YouBest Amazon purchase in the last 6 months: Bald cap for a costumeSelf-care activity of choice: long walks with her dog, RudyFavorite TV show: DeadwoodBook title written about Rose's life: She's Trying Her BestIs there something you would like to see on this podcast that you're not seeing? Today Rachel and Natalie talk about how they try and often fail to bring simplicity and minimalism into their motherhood.
