Fans of Americana music may recognize the name Bob Carlin as one of the country's leading practitioners of the classic "clawhammer" style of banjo. His myriad recordings, historical writings and frequent performances across the US and around the world have won him plaudits from old-time banjo scholars and aficionados alike. But when he's not downpicking in the studio or performing on stage, Carlin is likely to be found elsewhere on the road, obliging one of his life's other passions - chronicling the histories of North American "lost" baseball parks. Carlin's new book, "New York's Great Lost Ballparks," gives us the perfect excuse to delve into both ends of the Empire State's (and the Big Apple's) sizable trove of past professional baseball diamonds - from the iconic and memorable (like the Bronx's original Yankee Stadium, and the four versions of Manhattan's fabled Polo Grounds), to upstate Binghamton's oft-forgotten Johnson Field (RIP: 1968), the decades-long home of the Parlor City's various minor league league teams (e.g., Bingos, Brooms and Triplets). And, of course - everything in between! + + + DON'T FORGET: Get up to $100 in matching deposit credit when you sign up to try PrizePicks - and use promo code GOODSEATS!

It's time for the sort of film you don't usually see. Stylistically, it's closer to caricature street art than your typical Disney movie. There's almost no spoken dialogue. And the main hero is an old woman and her old dog. Together, they're on a mission to save their son from the mafia, and they just might need some help along the way. What if you had to choose between your family or your career? While the answer may seem obvious, the complications behind such a decision can be endless. This is the precise situation that Jayne Monroe and her husband Mike found themselves in after having one of their triplet boys diagnosed with ADHD. A situation that came to a tipping point after their son was kicked out of multiple schools and childcare facilities. While Jayne, above all else, wanted to put her family first, taking a step back within her career was made more difficult as she was on an upward track to an executive management role within her company. Not to mention the financial challenge of helping support their family of six. Jayne talks emotionally about her nine-month journey to have her son properly diagnosed. Between waitlists and doctors who wanted to brush her aside, Jayne had to fight to get the proper care that her son desperately needed and deserved. Not only for him but the entire Monroe family. You must be willing to tell your story repeatedly, Jayne emphasized. And while waitlists may deter you, there is a reason why the best facilities have one. There is a growing demand for the support kids like her son need. Jayne also describes the emotional conversations with her husband, Mike, about how to manage a career-changing emotional and financial decision. She pointed out that constant and consistent communication was key in helping them through this life-changing situation. And also, not expecting your spouse to be able to read your mind was also helpful. Please enjoy my conversation with Jayne Monroe. In today's episode, I interview Silje about her pregnancy and birth with fraternal triplets and what life's like with four children under three. After a caesarean with her first baby and a relatively smooth postpartum experience, Silje was so excited to be pregnant for the second time. She admits she walked so confidently into her dating scan but she never expected the sonographer to count three babies, three amniotic sacs and three placentas. She takes us through the joy and challenge of her triplet pregnancy, the emotions on the day of the birth and the difficulty of being discharged while the babies remained in the NICU. Now the babies are six months old and Silje talks about routines, sleep and the delightful busyness of life.
My guest this week is Scott Kapeller, a leader in pharmaceutical sales and, more importantly, the father of triplet girls. Scott is a good friend and neighbor of mine in which we share a lot of similar life experiences, one of which is being the father of triplets. One of the life-changing experiences that Scott and I share is that we both went through a significant job loss within our careers. I can always see with great clarity the day I was delivered the news that I was no longer wanted. Scott explains, getting the dreaded text, "I know you're traveling can you call-in quickly." Being 1,800 miles away from home and thinking nothing of what this call was about, Scott called into the home office and learned of an unanticipated fate. In our conversation, Scott walks through the emotional roller coaster that began on that fateful day. Although he thought that hearing the news that he was being released was the bottom, Scott later learned that he wasn't even close to the bottom. Scott published his journey on LinkedIn in what he refers to as his manifesto. Within it, Scott lays out five valuable lessons that all job seekers could benefit from, especially during these trying times of COVID-19 with so many layoffs and restructurings. In addition to Scott's five lessons, he also provides his insights into five tips that you should be doing if you're not employed or even if you are employed that will help you get through this life transition, which includes paying it forward. Paying it forward is another characteristic that Scott and I share, which means helping others during their time of transition, just like there was likely someone who helped you during your time of transition. Don't be the person who receives a call from someone in need and doesn't return it. Finally, Scott talks about the impacts of losing his job had on his family. The sometimes challenging conversations that he had to have with his wife and triplet daughters. Going through a job transition can put additional stress on a relationship, especially between a spouse or partner, so be sure to have a network of people you can talk with outside of your immediate family. Please enjoy this conversation with Scott Kapeller. Rose Lounsbury is a simplicity coach, speaker, and author of the book, Less: Minimalism, For Real. Rose's minimalist journey started with being an overwhelmed mom, and I really mean overwhelmed. She is the mom of triplets. She'd come home from work, start her second shift of being a mom, and finally get her 3 2-year-olds to bed just in time to spend her last waking hour cleaning up the mess from the day. Rose was tired of this but didn't know what to do until a friend mentioned minimalism. She immediately resonated with the lifestyle and spent the next year purging 70% of her possessions. Rose found this lifestyle so impactful that she began applying simplification into other areas of her life such as money and her career. Now, Rose helps overwhelmed people create open spaces in their homes, workspaces, and most importantly, their minds, by letting go of the excess stuff that gets in the way. We talked extensively about how the concept of simplifying can be applied to different areas of your life. We also start the conversation discussing overachievement and the negative impact associated with defining yourself by how much you have gotten done. Did you really expect the 100th episode to NOT be worth the rewatch? Of course not! It's glorious! But our growing list of general wondering-ments is still truckin' along. Phoebe's speech is great and all but is it really safe leaving her alone with 3 newborn babies balanced awkwardly on her lap? It's a shame that network television is unable to accurately portray a woman in active natural labor because these 5 second contractions and singular pushes aren't really painting a realistic picture. How do YOU say kidney stones? Is there any other way to say it? Phoebe's having the babies and really wants to ask about keeping one of them. Rachel sets she and Monica up on a double date with some cute male nurses. This forces Monica and Chandler to confront their own secret relationship. Are they dating? Is it casual? Joey is having sympathy pains but it turns out to be kidney stones. All clips are property of Warner Media. Find us over on Insta! Leave us a 5 star rating and a review. Share us with your friends. With returning guest Sarah Huisken of the Cult Film Collective! THE TRIPLETS OF BELLEVILLE is plot-light but craft-heavy. Its French style takes inspiration from many eras and regions of animation to build a descriptive, sometimes unsettlingly detailed picture of a fictional city and its unique inhabitants. With Sarah, we pull apart what exactly the movie is doing with its technical achievements, share our favorite bits of character-building animation, and discuss mixing discrete styles and conventions to make something that feels new. The UK has a low unemployment rate, and a large number of people who are not working right now – we look at how both of these are true with the help of Chris Giles from the FT and Louise Murphy from the Resolution Foundation. Have pyramids really moved 4km south since they were built? For years, the media has been claiming that the odds of having identical triplets are one in 200 million – we are very suspicious. And we look at apparently concerning reports about women's life expectancy in the poorest parts of England. Plus, we have received a lot of emails from listeners about last week's episode. Some questioning the definition of a billion, others questioning our explanation of the nautical mile. We do some reflecting.
Soon after the closest star to the Sun was discovered, in 1915, astronomers began suspecting that it was gravitationally bound to two other stars. But it's been hard to confirm that suspicion. The stars are the binary system Alpha Centauri A and B, and Proxima Centauri. A and B look like a single pinpoint — one of the brightest in the night sky. Proxima is a cosmic ember so faint that you need a good telescope to see it. Proxima is just four and a quarter light-years from Earth. The other two are a bit farther. But all three stars move through space in the same way. Proxima is sometimes called Alpha Centauri C, indicating that it's the third member of the system. Because of the distance between it and the stars A and B, though, that designation has been shaky. We hadn't seen enough of Proxima's possible orbit to confirm its membership. Some recent studies have solidified that membership, though. One, released last summer, carefully measured the details of the system. Among other things, it found that A and B are about half a percent farther than earlier studies had tallied — a difference of more than a hundred billion miles. It also found that A and B are slightly closer to each other. And it refined the distance from Proxima to the other two stars. The numbers increase the odds that Proxima is a member of the Alpha Centauri system — appearing to confirm that our nearest neighbors are triplets. We haven't talked enough about Joe Mixon's breakout potential as the "other" Joe who will benefit from an improvement in offensive line talent level. Jake and James dive into why Mixon could have a career year before dismantling the CBS "triplet" rankings that put the Bengals' trio of Mixon, Joe Burrow, and Ja'Marr Chase behind the Chargers' triplets. Finally, Akiem Hicks signing with Tampa and Stephon Tuitt's retirement refocuses a potential need for another guy to bolster the Bengals' defensive trenches. Dave and Julie had six kids in three years: triplets, twins, and a baby boy. As parents, this couple's journey has been filled with joys and triumphs—many of which they struggle to remember in the blur of it all—as well as tears and feelings of inadequacy. But as their triplets turn eight and are baptized, the couple reflects on one of their greatest learning moments: that of true submission to what God is willing to give. “God does not care about my identity as a former runner, as a former professor, or any of those things. The identity that He cares most about is, Am I a follower of Jesus Christ? Do I take care of my fellow man?” Show Notes: 2:34- As Many As He'll Send 6:34- 6 Kids In 3 Years 13:03- Sent To An Extended Family 18:50- Get Behind Me 25:44- Converted To Motherhood 31:02- A Mother's Presence 36:32- Forever Changed 48:31- What Does It Mean To Be All In the Gospel of Jesus Christ?
