"This is the big idea. Jesus invited. He didn't force. He didn't power people into following Him. He didn't beg people to believe in Him. He didn't perform people into accepting Him. It's true that he taught with authority. It's true that Jesus wowed with His miracles and His signs. And it's true that there were times when Jesus attracted large crowds. But … for the person — for the individual who would come face-to-face with Jesus – they were offered an invitation. Jesus offers us an invitation to participate, to experience, to learn, and to follow. He offers us an invitation into a relationship with Him, and it matches the pattern that God had set from the very beginning." Ben Webb, Associate Minister

In this episode, Steve sits down with author and leadership expert Sylvie di Giusto. Sylvie delineates five areas for everyone to consider in order to enhance their emotional intelligence. She and Steve also discuss how self-awareness and authenticity relate to situational awareness, and how improving in these areas can support career mobility. Key Takeaways: The subconscious takes up 95% of the brain – use that to your advantage to gain the trust of the people you interact with. Situational awareness is more important than one-size-fits-all ideas of “always smiling” or “maintaining eye contact. Your appearance, behavior, communication, digital footprint, and environment all matter for how people see you. Tune in to hear more about: How the meaning of emotional intelligence in business has changed over the years (01:48) Sylvie di Giusto's A.B.C.D.E. (Appearance, Behavior, Communication, Digital footprint, Environment) framework (07:50) The four levels of visibility (20:05) Standout Quotes: “The subconscious mind of a human takes up 95% of your brain. And 95% of your brain is where emotions live, where feelings live, where your gut feelings live. And only 5% of our brain actually transmits data, facts, figures, information. That is where your contracts are, where your proposals are, where all the facts and figures are that you deliver to your clients. [...] So, I always say, why don't you use this to your advantage, that behavior, and actually use the 95% of the brain and instantly imprint that feeling of trust in them and use it to your advantage. And before they buy into your solution, into your technical solution, let them buy into you.” - Sylvie di Giusto “You have to learn to read the moment, [...] and then adjust your behavior and make more intentional choices. I think one of the biggest challenges that we have nowadays, also driven by technology because we are constantly distracted by technology, is that we run on autopilot most of the day. Most of the day, we are so in our habits, in our patterns, that we do things, say things, that we are not even aware of, and they have a macro impact on our relationships. And we have to step back and sometimes turn that autopilot off, read the room, and be more intentional with the tools that we already have.” - Sylvie di Giusto “I think that authenticity means that we all play a role, but different roles, and in those roles, we are true to ourselves. [...] And in all those roles, I promise you, I'm truly authentic. But if I would try to talk with my husband the way I talk with my clients, we wouldn't have made it to 23 years, I promise you. Or if I would treat my clients like I treat my children, or if I look at home like I would on stage, and vice versa. So, yes, we are all authentic in those roles, but I think we have to accept that you just do you, no matter the circumstances – which brings us back to situational awareness – I think it's a lie that this is possible.” - Sylvie di Giusto Mentioned in this episode: Dear InfoSec Read the transcript of this episode Subscribe to the ISF Podcast wherever you listen to podcasts Connect with us on LinkedIn and Twitter From the Information Security Forum, the leading authority on cyber, information security, and risk management.

Ethan discusses a classic Buddhist concept, sīla (or shila), through the lens of knowing where to place our attention and action, knowing "what to cultivate and what to reject." Choices shift energy and energy can build power, and that power can be the difference between awakening and confusion. Ethan also argues, using the five precepts (or five mindfulness trainings) as a guide, that this might be the key to building new powerful systems in the world. He also examines a rule for social change involving only 3.5% of us making different, more awakened choices. Imagine if only a few percent of us shifted our energy from harmful systems into something healthier. Hi friend, Over the holidays, I fell into a familiar trap. My calendar was bursting with events and to-dos, and I was running myself ragged. Eventually, I got sick, angry, and exhausted. I didn't like who I was becoming. But then, I remembered a tool I write about in my book: Notice. Pause. Choose again. It's so simple yet so powerful. I noticed I was out of alignment, paused to reset, and chose a new direction—saying no to events, putting work aside, and being present with my kids. Slowly, things shifted, and I felt the connection I had been longing for. Here's the truth: You ALWAYS have the power of choice. No matter how far off track you feel, you can notice, pause, and choose again—right now. Take a breath. Ask yourself: What do I want to choose in this moment? If you're ready to reclaim your power, tune in to this week's Mindful Pause Podcast. Let's pause together and choose what aligns with your highest self. With love, Audrey P.S. Episode 2463: When pain and betrayal threaten to consume you, there remains something untouchable within your dignity, self-respect, and power of choice. Keith Wilson explores the ancient concept of prohairesis, the inner resilience that allows us to rise above hardship, take responsibility for what we can control, and refuse to be defined by our suffering. No matter how much has been lost, this strength is always within reach, ready to be reclaimed. Read along with the original article(s) here: https://medium.com/hello-love/what-cant-be-hurt-ec65a2b9656a Quotes to ponder: "The idea behind the concept is that, while you have no control of what others do to you, or what fate does to you; you have control over what you do with it." "You exercise prohairesis by taking responsibility, not of everything, but only of the things you are responsible for: yourself and what you do." "You may have misplaced it, or never knew it existed; you may have given it away; but you can always get more prohairesis." Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

In today's episode of Your Passion, Purpose and Personal Brand Podcast with Lisa McGuire, we challenge the belief that there's one fixed life path we must all follow. Instead, we uncover what happens when you recognize your own power to choose—and how it transforms your life for the better. You'll learn why personal autonomy can be both thrilling and unsettling, how looking back at past experiences can shape (and sometimes limit) your present, and why it's crucial to design a future based on your unique values and desires. The common belief that there is one path to success can be limiting. The fear of what others will think or breaking the rules can keep us playing small. It's only one version of the narrative. Key Takeaways: Recognize the Myth: A “predestined life path” is only one version of the story you can write. You Are the Author: It's your story. You get to be the author. Honor the Past, But Don't Dwell: Reflect on past experiences to learn and grow; don't let fear of repetition keep you stuck. Small Steps, Big Shifts: Making small, intentional decisions in alignment with your values can lead to transformative change. Create Your Future: Start focusing on what you do want rather than what you don't—let your imagination and passions guide the next chapter of your life. #podcast #choose #autonomy #selfdirection CONNECT WITH LISA Take the "Reimagine You" Quiz: https://lisamcguire.com/takeequiz/ Learn which of the four styles will put you on the path to your next steps.
