Finding speaking opportunities is one of the best ways to quickly grow your business, attract more clients, and show that you are an expert. Here are 5 tips to do so:Identify what people come to you over and over for. What do people ask you for help with? Take what you've found and turn it into a model. This can be an acronym, a step-by-step model, or any way to explain something that is challenging to understand.Once you have that model, share it widely! Get feedback on it and create engagement on it, share it with clients, share it on social media, and even train your team members on it. This establishes expertise and allows you to have something of value to share with other audiences on podcasts or conferences.Find the conferences or podcasts that will find your model helpful. There are many conferences available to apply to such as the Teachers Matter Summit or the ADHD Village Conference. Pitch yourself! To contact podcast hosts, you can contact them on LinkedIn, social media, or send them an email. Pitch to them your expertise and what value you can bring to their show.Is there something you would like to see on this podcast that you're not seeing? 12 Ways to Earn More Tutoring with Sean McCormick:Raise your rates: When you start to feel your schedule getting full with clients, start increasing your rates for the next incoming client. People don't always want the cheapest service because it shows that your service has value. Look around at your competitors, see what they're charging, and determine what works for you!Mind your business: Be thoughtful about who you hire. Find people who are credentialed and/or contract with others. Also, make sure your employees feel valued by checking in with them and ensure they have what they need to do their job efficiently.Automate with Intimacy: Have systems in place to make sure your business works effectively. Tutorbird and Loom are examples of an online system that makes running a tutoring business flow easier and saves loads of time. Additionally, delegate tasks that you do not have time for to other employees so that you can focus on growing your business.Play long-term games with long-term people: Relationships in business are extremely important. By building relationships with school administrators or attorneys, you gain opportunities for your business that you wouldn't get otherwise. Go to a conference and connect with new people.Focus on what feels right for you: You can get creative with how you run your business such as creating a course or changing your business model to a remote business! Set boundaries, practice gratitude, and focus on abundance.Do less better: Be a minimalist with your work by niching down. Figure out what you're really good at and focus your business on that niche. Most people don't want to work with people who claim that their business is good at everything.Be an expert, command authority: Speak about your topic! For example, create your own course, start a podcast, write blog posts, make YouTube videos, and create models for your ideas. Go on Facebook, join groups that you are interested in, and answer people's questions! Don't try to sell something right away, focus on simply being helpful.Ask for feedback: After meetings with clients, ask them if the session was helpful. You can also create a google link for others to leave a review on your business. This generates a community and is a simple, effective way to gain feedback.Focus on community: Talk to your audience! You can create a Facebook group for your audience, build up your email list, or go live on Instagram or Facebook.Learn with Intention: Find learning materials like books or podcasts that will help you reach your specific goals.Think big: Have big goals! Create a vision board of what you want your life to look like. Write down your goals, look at them before you go to bed and when you wake up, and create an action plan with little steps throughout the week that will get you closer to your goal.Diversify your income: An example of how you can diversify your income are owning property, making strategic improvements to it, and refinancing it. Another way is to learn about index funds. Is there something you would like to see on this podcast that you're not seeing? Today's Episode with Dr. Maureen O'Shaughnessy:Dr. Maureen O'Shaughnessy is the founder of Lead Prep, a microschool that avoids the one-size-fits all system and allows students to thrive as themselves! She is also the host of the Education Evolution podcast.Dr. Maureen O'Shaughnessy was a school assistant principal when she ended up going around the world to study internationally. She brought her kids back to the US for high school and thought there would be more choices for English for her child with autism and ADHD. So, she created a 6-12th grade microschool that personalizes the school experience. The challenges in creating this school was figuring out the space and buy-ins, as well as figuring it out the funding and logistics all by herself.Dr. O'Shaughnessy gives the advice to listen and absorb the knowledge you need to create your vision a reality, know yourself and stay true to yourself to keep your passion alive, and be willing to flex.To recharge, she takes dance classes which allows her to avoid thoughts about work, listen to music, and use her body. Also, when school gets out for the summer, she changes the setting of where she's living to experience a new place and restore.Dr. O'Shaughnessy started a podcast, Education Evolution, where educators come on to the show and provide knowledge that one may not receive in the classroom. Her goal is to plant the seeds to give others knowledge outside of the classroom.Doing market research is extremely important for starting a school. Find out where the need for the school is, what the need specifically is, and reach out to communities that could provide the resources or recommendations for your school. Going into this process alone is hard, so be intentional. Today's Episode with Brian P. Moran:Brian is the co-author of The 12 Week Year, an execution system that fosters better results for high execution. Brian and his business partner worked with clients on how to execute at a high level and found that it's not what you know that counts, it's what gets implemented. They decided to document what they had been doing with their clients and wrote this book in 12 weeks. Brain tells an impactful story about a retired real estate agent, Barbara, who found out she had terminal cancer right as she was starting the 12 week year. She used what she learned in The 12 Week Year to make the most out of her time left.Brian recommends marketing and networking by asking those who are already in the industry where to find more people. Finding your value proposition means figuring out what value you bring into the marketplace and how your service will make their lives better. Every service is a solution to a problem, so it is okay to emphasize what the problem is within your marketing strategy, followed by how you solve that problem in a unique way. Brian and his business partner, Michael, have different yet complementary roles in the company which makes working together a smooth process. As far as approaching individuals, Brian has a free “getting started” course that can help with finding what you need to be doing right now to get people into your world and see your value.Tools that have helped Brian with his success include utilizing Zoom to coach clients while seeing their face.Brian balances work and home life by prioritizing quality time with family. Today's Episode with Gretchen Wegner:Gretchen Wegner is back on the show! Gretchen started 10 years ago as a private coach and then started her own business. She had a hard time sustaining herself with an hourly wage so she explored different marketing techniques. She discovered that creating an online course for students allowed her to increase her clients and earn more money.Gretchen's business model is now structured with self-guided courses and a subscription option. She changed to this business model because she was exhausted with the marketing that came with launching a few course webinars per year. Gretchen attracts clients by showing up as her true self on camera, whether that be in Youtube videos or in her courses. Find your own uniqueness and embody it in your work. Gretchen celebrates her imperfectness by only doing 1 take when she records a video and showing that true self to her audience. When it comes to social media, Gretchen is thinking about utilizing Tik Tok as a marketing technique. Tik Tok easily reaches a large audience and by being her truest self on her Youtube videos, she would be able to take snippets from those Youtube videos.Asking for help should be your first impulse. It should be such a part of our fluency that, when we have an idea or limitation, we go to someone else for advice or support. Normalizing asking for help would change the game for so many people.Gretchen explores the relationship between marketing, generosity, and curiosity. Marketing can come with impulsive energy. It is important to connect, listen, and offer generously from the heart while also knowing your worth. On May 12th, Gretchen and Michelle Warner are doing a special version for educators on Michelle's course: Networking That Pays. Today's Episode with Michael Gibben:Michael is the Founder of Coach for Tutors, working with tutor company owners who are in the stage of launching their business or want to scale up their business. They help these tutors get past the roadblocks that come up when developing their business. One of Michael's challenges while building his business was marketing. He spent lots of time and money on marketing that didn't pay off. Along with marketing, sales was a difficult process to show people the value of his company.Receiving help from others on developing your business allows you to feel calmer outside of your business and makes space for your professional and personal goals. To find clients as a coach, Michael recommends starting a Facebook group to start getting to know people, coaches and tutors, and taking the time to network. When networking, it is important to go in with the intention to build and connect, not with the intention to sell. Spending time to develop the networking skills that you can apply to the next networking event is a great takeaway in itself. Sales will follow relationships.Tutoring Business Leadership, 1 of 2 ebooks that Michael is releasing, discusses navigating sales, growing a successful tutoring team, and a variety of case studies of situations that Michael has encountered and seen over the years.During the summer, there is usually a drop in business and stream of income. On Friday, April 29th, Michael offers a webinar discussing sources of income during the summer. Today's Episode with Lauren Mang:Lauren is the co-founder of Get Littles Organized. They're approach is to involve kids into the home organization process to get kids motivated to be organized and practice organization skills during their toddler years. At a very young age, kids want to be around their parents no matter the activity. So doing an activity together like chores will teach them organization skills while also spending time with family. As visual learners, Lauren incorporates more informative videos rather than pictures when creating presentations. This has been seen through apps like TikTok or Instagram reels. While doing an organization task together with your child, it's important to break down the tasks so it doesn't seem so overwhelming for the child. For example, saying “you pick up the toy cars and I will pick up the toy blocks”. Or, give them the option of which they would like to choose. When looking into the professional organizer career field, Lauren had the organizing part down but had to learn how to run a business. Through networking and surrounding herself with like-minded people, she was able to see how the industry flows and be mentored by others. Lauren is a part of NAPO, the National Association of Productivity and Organizing, where she is able to get advice and give advice around how to run an organization business and how to find/work with clients. In the beginning, most organizers will start with general organizing without a specific niche. When starting out with a specific niche, there isn't much availability for business growth or job opportunities. Being a generalist allows you to find more job opportunities while also experimenting with which type of organization you most prefer. After 5 years as a general organizer, Lauren decided to narrow down her specialty area. This was a great timeline for her because she was able to have her niche while also having the skills she learned as a generalist. You can connect with Lauren and find her upcoming course at https://getlittlesorganized.com/ and follow them on Instagram @getlittlesorganized.Hot seat answers! When was the last time you changed your opinion on something major?: Being open to seeing the different side of things. When her son was diagnosed, she started a support group and found out that she actually had ADHD herself. She started working with a life coach, who helped her understand her ways of thinking and improve her relationship with her sons and her husband. She knew that she wanted to help others improve their ADHD family like she experienced herself. This led her to create the Calming the ADHD Family Summit. Those with ADHD have the ability to hyper focus on things they have interest in. Once Lara worked with a life coach, she was able to handle her emotions in healthier ways which gave her more time to focus on things she was passionate about. For educators who want to pursue a side hustle or a change in career, Lara's advice is to start before you feel ready. Experience helps you believe in yourself so don't worry about it being perfect, just get out there and start creating!Lara was able to recruit expert speakers for her summit by sharing her mission with the experts. Today's Episode with Marydee Sklar:Marydee Sklar is an educator who was a teacher and reading specialist, and had her own tutoring practice. She had her own executive function challenges and spent 40 years describing herself as an underachieving procrastinator. Once she was able to discover how to help her challenges, her whole life started to get better. Since people came to Marydee for help, she ended up using her reading specialist skills and designed a workbook called Seeing My Time: a curriculum to teach time management, planning, and organization from the perspective of the brain. She was encouraged to publish her work and has now sold thousands around the world. Seeing My Time has worked so well for so many people because it provides a successful structure for getting things done.Marydee recommends that if you are tutoring, you should be backfilling with an executive function option or course. If you try to do tutoring and executive function simultaneously, it can contradict themselves. This is because, unlike executive function coaching, tutoring is expected to provide immediate results for the student.Marydee spent 7 months designing her course. At first, getting 5 people to show up was a celebration. As time went on and COVID-19 happened, teachers became very interested in her course and she was getting 40 people in the summer AND in the winter.Marydee once did a talk for a magazine where 9,000 people registered to hear her speak. Out of these 9,000 people, she got 1 client. It takes perseverance, hard work, time, and deep connection to your passion to really succeed at making a business work.As a solopreneur, you are limited in what you can earn through an hourly rate. Making a course gives you passive income with potential for huge growth over time.If you are debating between designing a product or a course, Marydee recommends investing into a course instead. Making a course avoids the hassle of the manufacturing and supply chain costs that come with making a product, which she experienced when designing her planners.Marydee put a sign she made on her desk that says “my message is more important than my comfort zone”. This is something that is so beneficial to remind yourself. If you have a strong message, have the courage to get your message out there.Marydee's dream is to help shift education so that the need for executive function courses will no longer be needed. Today's Episode with Julia Silver:Julia launched the 2nd Love Tutoring Festival this past January, bringing together voices to celebrate tutoring expertise.2 years ago, Julia was the deputy head of a private school looking to employ a tutor for her children. She searched online and found that it was too easy to find a tutor and too difficult to find a qualified tutor. She founded Qualified Tutor because she wanted something where parents could be confident that they hired a qualified tutor for their child. There are not enough tutors willing to work for the rate being offered. Julia believes that there will be a new equilibrium in supply and demand for tutoring. Schools will discover that there is a place for tutors within their program. Julia is an enthusiastic, passionate, hard working entrepreneur AND a mother of 5 kids. Being able to build a business and give herself permission to be passionate and creative outside of her home was a challenge. Julia educates herself on how to build a sustainable business by reading and listening to podcasts. Knowing how to build a business is its own set of skills…mistakes are inevitable. But, having a team by her side has been a huge help. Julia has built a team from day 1, nurtures her team, and enables each other to do their best work. Before you make your product, you have to understand your people and the change you want to make. Take the time to develop the concept. When bringing a team together, it is important to let them be themselves and encourage authenticity. You cannot be an expert without traveling through the stage of being a novice. Today's Episode with Hasan Ali:Hasan is the Founder of Air Tutors, an online tutoring company whose mission is to advance global learning.Tutoring is the only job that Hasan has ever had. He continued to tutor into his college years via Facetime and was referred by families to work with other families. Hasan graduated with a bio-chem degree and did not have much knowledge in business. But he saw the need for accessible tutoring, so Air Tutors was created.Hasan was facing the question of whether or not online tutoring is better than in-person tutoring. By searching through data, he found that online tutoring is extremely successful and worth taking advantage of.On the Newsroom section at www.airtutors.org, there is a link to the Gates Foundation partnership where you can find important data like Hasan's findings.Having a fun and relevant community that the student feels comfortable in is important to have in a tutoring company. For example, the use of emojis and memes to foster relatability, creativity, and enjoyment for yourself and your student.Having a quality control team has helped Air Tutors make sure that they are taking environmental factors into consideration. For example, if there is an upcoming storm somewhere, it is important to cancel those tutoring sessions in advance. Having a support team is helpful as well. A support team can help problem-solve with parents and students so that they feel supported and their needs are met.To market themselves, word-of-mouth has been the most successful option for Air Tutors. When parents/districts have success with the company, they recommend it to other parents/districts.Connect with Hasan on instagram @nasah209Hot seat answers!Last movie you saw: A Quiet Place 2Do you believe in aliens?: YesLast song you listened to: The Game ft. Andrew is back on the show to discuss his new book, Balance. He speaks on how to set goals in your financial life, as well as your personal life, in order to create the balance you need to achieve the life satisfaction that you desire. Want your own copy of Balance? Leave a review of this podcast, take a screenshot, and send it to info@earnmoretutoring.com. A random winner will be selected each week for their free copy!Andrew's new book, Balance, breaks apart what it means to be successful. Success is life satisfaction, so Andrew provides behavioral research to show us how to live the best life that we can. For example, a student wants to go to a good college…why? To make money…why? So I can live the life I want… why? So I can be happy. Ultimately, a student wants to get into a good college to build life satisfaction.Write down your goals, plan them, and share them with people. If you have debts, write down where you are at right now. Then, work on paying off your smallest debt first. This gives you a feeling of accomplishment and motivates you to move on to the next one. Sharing your goals to a couple of people you trust is a great way to keep you accountable, get advice, and receive feedback.Having financial goals is important. But, sometimes people are hyper-focused on reaching their financial goals, and other areas of their life become unstable. This is why finding balance will create the life satisfaction that you desire. When writing his book, Andrew explored studies of connection vs longevity. He discusses how showing off your wealth creates a social wedge and how this can fuel envy from others or motivate others. Creating social goals is every bit as important as financial goals. Building memories and experiences may cost money and that is okay.If you are wanting to write a book, set small goals. For example, planning out when you want to have a general outline finished. After the outline, plan out when you want to have the introduction/first chapter finished. This goal-setting technique applies to any goal you want to achieve. You can connect with Andrew by joining his Facebook Group: Millionaire Teacher, his website at www.andrewhallam.com and connect with him on LinkedIn.Hot seat answers!Last movie you saw: SpidermanLast song you listened to: Where The Streets Have No Name by U2Something unusual about yourself: Will do pull-ups anywhereIs there something you would like to see on this podcast that you're not seeing? Jean dedicated her career to representing parents of children with special needs and ensuring that their children get the support they need.A child's teacher is going to notice if the child may have a disability. As a parent, it is important to listen to the child's teacher and be receptive. Next, do the research and educate yourself about the disability and rights. As a parent, you are the child's advocate so you have to step up as their defender and advocate, fighting for the support that your child deserves. Jean understands that parents who call her for help have already experienced their own challenges in attaining services and are receptive to getting help.It is important to be culturally sensitive and respectful of cultural differences because disabilities affect each child differently and each family has their own preferences for treatment. For example, a learning disability like ADHD manifests itself differently in each child. ADAMS ESQ is a firm that looks at the child individually rather than grouping them into a category. ADAMS ESQ only charges $1 to their clients. If they are successful in the case, then the school district has to pay the legal fees. They are the first law firm to have this model and be successful, having 6 offices in 2 states. This business model may not work for a small business or a startup, but has worked great for this firm. Winning a case happens before you enter the courtroom. When Jean first reviews the assessments and the IEP and concludes that they fail to pass the assessment and the IEP is inappropriate, then Jean has already won the case. Daniel has a networking group, CAPLA, where 40-60 practitioners get together for a big lunch to make new connections and build on current ones.Daniel also teaches courses and gives presentations at universities. He helps schools use a trauma-informed approach to help children with a wide range of learning disabilities.Daniel attributes his success to hard work, curiosity, and compassion. Today's Episode with Seth Perler:Seth Perler is an Executive Function, ADHD, and 2e Coach. He is also a speaker and vlogger, and offers an executive function online summit.Seth struggled in school for most of his years. He didn't know how to get things done and started internalizing his self-criticism. When he was 22, he had a job working with kids and fell in love with being of service to kids. He became a teacher for 12 years but felt like this job was holding him back from truly fulfilling his purpose of service. How do I make enough money to continue to serve? This is a question that Seth needed to answer in order to serve to the best of his ability. He continued to create content through YouTube and podcasts, one-on-one coaching, and offering courses in order to fulfill this.If you don't exactly know what career path you want to take, know that this is a common and okay feeling. Seth experienced this as well and developed routines that helped him identify his vocation. He made a vision board and committed to doing a vision journal with thoughts and questions such as: What is an ideal day? Who is my ideal client? At the start of his business, Seth did not have sufficient income to live comfortably but was okay with this because he was committed to putting his whole heart into his business. Do things that might not work! Seth decided to step into the unknown, try things out and put this energy into the universe. He built a website, started making blogs and YouTube videos. He didn't know if this would all work but took a leap of faith and put trust in himself and in the universe.Your business will tell you where you need to go. You will get feedback that will guide you to the next step and tell you what more you can do to be of service. If you are not where you want to be in your business right now, fill your time that you would usually use to watch tv or scroll on your phone with time where you are listening to podcasts or reading books that resonate with your situation. To find more clients, be creative in your ways, be patient, and don't give up! You will experience what's called a “hockey stick effect” where, after a long period of stagnation, there is a sharp rise in growth. If you are wanting to create a course or bootcamp or write a book, Seth loves making models to conceptualize what is going on. For example, a model that he uses with students/parents during a semester is: strong start, the dip, swimming upstream, and hail mary at the end of the semester. You can find Seth Perler at www.sethperler.com or www.executivefunctionsummit.com and subscribe to his YouTube at: The Executive Function Show: ADHD, 2e, Seth PerlerHot seat answers! It was a 13-15 year evolution from leadership developments to one-on-one coaching to leadership coaching, until he realized that he really can influence people and executives.A part of Timothy's leadership is tapping into his own passion and tapping into the other person's passion to find the intersection. He loves asking questions and learning about other people's journeys. We cannot grow and change without deep reflection. To help with his anxiety, Timothy started reading self-help books and meditation flowed in. Over years of practice, he learned about varieties of meditations that helped him tremendously to accelerate his intellectual and emotional intelligence. Meditation is what allowed Timothy to find his life purpose at a young age. There isn't always going to be time in the day to incorporate daily habits, but it is important to find those “moments” every now and then to recenter yourself. You can find Timothy at https://www.maslowleadership.com/ or connect with him on LinkedIn!Hot seat answers! Instead, he always makes an effort to have conversations with new people, creating connections and sharing what he does. He is also the creator of Black Tutors of Social Media and The Jay Veal brand, all of which add positively to the education field.INC Education is not only a tutoring company. They also offer professional development workshops, mentoring, ghostwriting for authors, resume reviews and writing, literature reviews, teacher training, etc. They are also a unique company in that they do not hire through third party/outside sources such as Indeed.Jay has a deep background in education. Jay wanted to educate beyond the classroom and became an instructional coach. He then got promoted to be a district level administrator over 7 schools.Jay touches on what tutoring really means for students. Tutoring is not a tool to catch students up when they are behind, but a tool to help them stay ahead of the game and prepare themselves for what's to come. INC Education employs tutors of various backgrounds and degrees. They have engineering students, medical school students, investment bankers out of Cornell, etc. Having this array of tutors makes their company stand out because it allows students to relate to them and have an array of skill sets.In terms of marketing, Jay makes a great point that you know the impact of your organization best. When you want to get your organization well-known in the media, it is important to share your story and know that you are a master of your craft. If you are unique enough and share your story with the world, you will be heard. As you grow up, you have experiences and values that help determine your path in life. Don't fall into the trap of what others want or expect you to be. There are so many pathways to take, so it is important that someone shows students these different pathways, which is exactly what INC Education does.Follow Jay on Instagram @thetoptutor and @thejayvealbrand, and on Twitter @inceducationllc or @blacktutorsofsmHot seat answers! Today's Episode with Sarah Ward:Sarah Ward is an executive function specialist whose work includes speaking, teaching, and writing. She gives presentations on developing and building executive function skills as well as providing executive function coaching interventions to children and young adults. Sarah originally worked in a hospital and specialized in brain injury rehab. When her husband lost his executive function skills due to a brain injury, she could not find someone who really gave her practical strategies to improve executive function. So, she switched to becoming an executive function specialist so she could provide more practical strategies to others. Sarah knew she wanted to make this switch because she needed more flexibility of her time and took advantage of the opportunity to specialize in what she really wanted to do, which was executive function.Sarah stresses the importance of having clarity about what your client's goals are and making sure that they are developing their independence.Sarah balances her time by dedicating hours to specific tasks and being clear about what needs to get done during that time. When helping students plan out their days, Sarah recommends including the “goes-withs” and the “maybes” that add to the time originally planned out. For example, adding extra time for the walk from the locker room to soccer practice or maybe you will grab pizza on the way home.Sarah has found that in order for neurological change to happen, students need to develop non-verbal working memory and situational awareness. An example of this would be visualizing while you read. For people who want to begin speaking about their work and profit from it, Sarah recommends adding practical and applicable information into your presentations, as well as providing stories to encourage imagery in the audience. Being able to provide people with tangible tools that encourage measurable change will encourage profitability.Sarah uses OneNote to create virtual notebooks and clearly organize your information, as well as Google Calendar. Today's Episode with Jay Bacrania:Jay Bacrania is the CEO and co-founder of Signet Education: a tutoring, test-prep, admissions consulting, and academic coaching company based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Jay has realized over the years that certain pathways lead to more pain for the student and the family. In the more successful pathways, the commonality is having a deliberate approach for each student that takes into consideration a student's background.Jay works in a very competitive market. However, creating a company focused on quality customer service and hiring the best people to work there has set them apart. In the early days of Signet Education, there were few qualifications for someone to work there. As time went on, they have explored many options for hiring such as recruiting on college campuses, word of mouth, and advertising on job sites. Some key points to hire quality people are providing competitive pay, and establishing a workplace culture that pushes people to perform their best and grow both professionally and personally.Signet Education has a multi-part interview process where they use a structured interview format. They ask questions that assess the interviewee's skills, whether the person fits the company's values, how they speak about their values, their past experiences, and expectations.Jay recommends Gusto as a payroll and HR program for companies. Gusto is designed with the end user in mind and has benefits, like 401k, that is great to have for employees.Finding clarity on what you want to pursue in life is not easy or perfect. Jay describes it as a zig-zag line where you pivot at some points and, over time, these pivots become smaller and you gain more clarity.Find out more about Jay and Signet Education at www.signeteducation.com Hot seat answers! Today's Episode with Josh Horwatt:Josh Horwatt is an Educational Therapist and founder of Beyond Bored, which provides educational therapy and tutoring.Josh became a certified Educational Therapist while working a full-time job and being a full-time Dad of 3 kids. Josh discusses male educational therapists and how masculine energy is brought into educational therapy. Josh shares a memory of one of his first clients who would cope with anger by spraying a garden hose at his parents and in their home. Josh is still in touch with this client today and the client now runs a successful gardening business. Josh has learned a lot about when to set boundaries with clients and when not to. It is important to evaluate, with each client, if they need boundaries. Each client has different needs. Holding kids to a higher standard shows them that they are capable, confident people. So, most kid clients respond well to their tutor or therapist confirming that what needs to be completed, is completed. Josh strongly values receiving feedback from clients and adjusting accordingly. This value comes from Josh's own experience of someone telling him a hard truth that has stuck with him to this day. There came a point when Josh had to decide if he wanted to be an Educational Therapist or start a business. He had a mentor who pushed him to use what he's good at and start a business from it. Since then, Josh has put his heart into his business, enjoying each moment. Josh noticed that, with his male clients, they needed academic help but mostly needed help being a boy. His next big project is an unbreakable boys program to help boys navigate life more confidently. No one can run a successful business by themselves; having a team by your side is life-changing.You can find Josh at beyondbored.orgEnjoy the show? Today’s Episode with Dr. Zoee Bartholomew:Dr. Zoee Bartholomew started out as a support staff at an autism unit. She then moved back to California where she became a special education teacher and was selected to be trained to become a behavior specialist at the Solano County Office of Education. While working at the office of education, a family asked to pay her to watch their child at home and this is where Zoe entered the private practice. Zoee began getting so many clients that she had to hire other staff and her business grew and grew. Now she does trainings, expert consultations, and works with families on how to navigate the IEP process as an educational consultant. Zoee is also a professor at Dominican University of California as well as the SPED program director. From a very young age, Zoee knew she wanted to work with kids. Starting in middle school, Zoee was a recreational leader for the city of Berkeley and did this job every summer until she graduated from college.People she worked with saw her natural talent for working with kids, especially those with special needs, and pushed her to pursue it further. One day Zoee wrote down a list of every single thing someone has asked her to do regarding her business and she looked at it with a friend and one of the things that stood out the most was a need for consultation training. Zoee realized she had built a massive network and started calling people and letting them know the business she was launching and one of her friends told her she needed this service. On the marketing level, the most business Zoee gets is still from word of mouth and she truly believes your reputation precedes you and it is important to be active and make yourself visible.Zoee is constantly evolving her business to best fit the current needs of her clients and she is even currently pivoting to build more online platforms.Sean and Zoee discuss the pay inequities teachers face and even the differences between educators in the public v.s. private sectors.Zoee says one of the biggest challenges she has faced for years is people don’t want to invest in this work because investors are looking for a rate of return and this work isn’t always for the profit. He then soon started Teach For America.Sean and Desmond talk about the profound effect teachers have on their students self-image and the impact small comments can make which is why self reflection is so important for teachers.Desmond leverages his social media platform as a tool to get honest feedback and views the comments and criticism not as hate, but ways he can grow and improve.Desmond gives advice on how to deal with criticism and hate but stresses the importance of just putting yourself out there on social media and being authentic.Having rates that reflect what Desmond is worth allows him to put that money back into his students' education as well as serve all audiences, those who can and cannot afford his services. Sean and Desmond talk about the deep seeded script of job stereotypes and which jobs should make a lot of money and that teaching is not one of them. Teachers are always told that it is their job to be selfless and not make a lot of money. You can find Desmond on TikTok and Instagram @desmondfambrini Enjoy the show? Today’s Episode with Jodi Klugman-Rabb:Jodi is a licensed marriage and family therapist, a licensed professional counselor, a doctoral student earning her Psy D, and an adjunct faculty on Dominican University of California, and co-hosts a podcast called “Sex, Lies & The Truth”. Jodi does a lot of psychological work surrounding trauma and has been pioneering a specialty called Parental Identity Discovery writing a curriculum to work specifically with DNA surprises. When Jodi was going through graduate school, she knew she would end up in a private practice because she was entrepreneurial and wanted control over her schedule. However, she wasn’t sure what she wanted to develop at the time. Jodi discovered her own DNA surprise which caused her to discover the vacuum in the psychology market for something like this. She became the first one in the country (and maybe the world) to create a curriculum for mental health specialists to help people discover DNA surprises because it triggers enormous identity crises and trauma. Jodi started the podcast with the genealogist that helped her find her biological family. In 2014, Jodi decided to take a 23andme test for fun as a way to get to know her dad’s side of the family who she was not especially close to. Her test came back as 50% Scottish which she said was never a part of the folklore of the family. She connected the dots and discovered that her dad was not her biological dad.Her dad passed away in 1996 and she always felt like an outsider with his side of the family and learning this helped her understand it all.An investigative genealogist helped Jodi find her biological father and a few months later she knocked on his door and learned that he knew she was her daughter and she also has a half brother and a whole new family to discover.Jodi says she has had a super positive experience because her new biological family has been extremely receptive and she has forged some really close bonds. This phenomenon brings on an identity crisis and so a big part of Jodi’s curriculum is helping people rebuild and explore their identity. Jodi coaches her clients on family systems and how to communicate with both sides of the family.Sometimes you don’t know what it is you are looking for. One of Jodi’s pieces of advice is to be receptor to the universe and listen to what people around you are saying. You can find Jodi on her website www.jkrabb.com or on her podcast Sex, Lies, And The Truth. She also trains other people to become professional ADHD coaches Cindy has a background as a mental health provider and when she wanted to start supporting kids with ADHD, she went and got years of coach training in ADHD and executive function. It is more time efficient, she makes more money, and it is cheaper for her clients. It has also given Cindy the opportunity to do so much more with a sliding scale and offer her services to those who cannot afford it.It is important to let go of what a group means when getting into group coaching rather than individual. Cindy says her groups were not the size she hoped they were at the beginning but it grows over time through marketing and word of mouth. One of Cindy’s big pieces of advice is to take every opportunity you get because you never know what will come of it.In terms of marketing, every time Cindy speaks in front of people she makes sure to collect email addresses and she writes articles for lots of magazines which led to her being asked to write a book.Cindy expects to be paid if the organization has a budget for it. Instead of having a set rate, she asks clients what their budget is and assesses what a proper fee is and they want to pay her what she is worth Cindy had many participants in her practice who were therapists and educators and wanted to become a parent coach themselves. So eight years ago, Cindy started a program of training professionals and lay people to become parent coaches.Enjoy the show?
