March 24, 2024. Pastor Meagan preaches on Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem, and how he walked a path that he knew inevitably would lead to betrayal, loneliness, suffering, and ultimately death. The question is: why? Why would he make this choice?Readings: Philippians 2:5-11, Mark 11:1-11, John 3:16
The Triumphal entry was not what I thought it was all these years. What the people wanted and what Jesus was doing were two different things. At the moment, the people wanted a King, but Jesus needed to be a Savior. He always knows better what we need than we do. No matter what you think or feel, follow Him. The Bible says that without FAITH we cannot please Him.

A conversation with John Hebenton about Palm Sunday and what it offers us today.
Do you feel necessary to the kingdom of God? You are! Both the younger generation and the older generation are important to Jesus. He wants to use the older generation to teach the younger generation how to carry His presence and bring His kingdom.

Bro Stan Waldon; "Palm Sunday Parades"
We hear Mark 11:1-11 read to us and then two Talks about different aspects of Palm Sunday. The first Talk (from 1:35) helps us to understand the meaning of the Hebrew word "Hosanna." The second Talk (from 6:25) makes us consider "How do we see Jesus?"
Easter is a season we associate with fluffy bunnies, copious amounts of chocolate, neon bright flowers, beautiful dresses, and the joy of new life. Easter week begins with Palm Sunday. We wave bright green palm branches and celebrate that Jesus is our king. Like the people of Jerusalem we say “Hosanna.” Hosanna is one of those church words, that only gets used at church. It is easy to lose its meaning. Hosanna literally means “save us.” On a Sunday morning each spring we celebrate by shouting “Hosanna.” But the children, women, and men that shouted, “Hosanna” as Jesus arrived in Jerusalem didn’t sing it out in celebration, they cried it out in desperation. The people of Jerusalem didn’t want to ask Jesus into their hearts so they could feel better, they’re lives were defined by suffering under an oppressive occupying military and they were desperate to be liberated. They wanted relief from their real suffering. They wanted an end to oppression. They wanted to work meaningful jobs. They wanted their children to grow-up without the threat of violence. They wanted real peace. It’s easy to lose sight of the gritty reality of Jesus’ ministry with the pleasantries of our celebrations. But we need a gritty Jesus. We have dark realities in our own lives and world that need a Jesus who will hear both our celebratory singing of “Hosanna” and our desperate cries of “Hosanna.”
John invites people to enter into the story of Palm Sunday and to hear the invitation to let go of our preconceptions, so that we might engage with the story and God in a new way.
