Trey Morrison has been on quite the journey.  After a high school injury ended his sports aspirations, he found himself in a deep dark hole fueled by drugs, alcohol, and self hatred.  And then, after losing his brother a few years ago, he hit rock bottom, and decided he only had 2 options.  Suicide, or faith.  Luckily for us, he chose faith and in December of 2022 his new path led him to his first 50K, followed by his first 100 miler a year later at the crazy tough Beast of The East 100 here in North Carolina.  He has since launched his Run With Christ mission where he plans to run a 100 miler in all 50 states, taking on the Massanutten Mountain Trails 100 in May to check off the state of VA.  Join us while we chat with this coach and strength training gym owner about how he got here, what will keep him going, and how he plans to tackle fifty 100 milers to carry forward his mission.  Enjoy the episode! On May 18, 2019 The Virginia Happy Trails Running Club hosted the 25th Massanutten Mountain Trails 100 mile race (MMT 100). Five of this year's entrants were from the JMTC who set out to tackle the demanding, rocky trail set in the Massanutten Mountains of Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. The list included Kevin Mullen (going for his 5th consecutive finish), Brian Tjersland, John Correiro, Giles Gregory, and Mark Gauthier. Each of these runners had their own reason for attempting this race, with it being the first 100 mile race attempt for Mark Gauthier. The runners were well supported by many other members of the JMTC heading down to both Crew and Pace the runners. In the end, all five JMTC runners completed the race in what was described as a brutally hot and challenging course. Huge CONGRATS to these amazing competitors on their accomplishments. This podcast was an attempt to get the runners / pacers / crews involved in that race to recap this event for those of us who could not be there. I also discovered the upper limits of recording a podcast from a mobile device platform during this recording. Thanks to all those that called in and dealt with the technical difficulties. Lessons learned, experienced gained! Don't forget about Brian & Josh's 500 Miles to End Veteran Suicide Run in November. Help spread the word to raise money for MIssion 22. Through his story, Joshua explains how the trials of arriving to a race with a cocky attitude, destroying your nutrition and pacing plan, and wearing the wrong footwear can all contribute to one amazing DNF story. Our second story comes from Jamie Reichler of Parker, CO who takes the time to tell us about his ultra mentor, and hero, Sheryl Wheeler.
