Many people dream of becoming a star, but most can barely perform without losing their breath after one song, let alone get through a proper soundcheck. For those folks, Muhammad Mvstermind Austin created Mvstercamp — a six-day bootcamp to teach up and coming artists the lessons he learned the hard way.

In this episode, Dr. William Ross joins our co-hosts in a timely conversation about reparations in St. Louis. In March 2023, the City of St. Louis announced the formation of a nine-member Reparations Commission, naming Dr. Ross as Vice Chair and Kayla Reed as Chair. This announcement stemmed from 50 local organizations unified grassroots advocacy that began in December 2021.  Dr. Ross, the Associate Dean for Diversity of Washington University School of Medicine, and a social justice trailblazer in the field of public health, views the group's charge through a lens of history, justice, and action. Rapper/producer Mvstermind was a very young father and husband during the writing processes for the song that would become “his fight song”. “SQUARE UP” was released on the first of the three-EP-series BEGREATFOOL. “BE” came out in November of 2020. Part 2 “GREAT” is due out any week now. I talked with Mvstermind and co-producer Owen Ragland about making the song and they supplied me with 12 stems and a bunch of rehearsal recordings and early concept demos.
