Two candidates are running to represent the city of Seattle in one of our two city-wide Council seats. And 2026 will be a big year for the council – we’ve got a looming budget deficit, potential federal funding cuts, and, of course, the continuous threat of federal troops being sent to our fair city. The first candidate is a familiar name – incumbent Sara Nelson was elected to the position 9 seat in 2021. She is the city council president, and a co-founder of Fremont Brewing. Her opponent is Dionne Foster - former executive director of the nonprofit Washington Progress Alliance, which advocated for a statewide capital gains tax. Foster is also a former policy advisor for the city. Thank you to the supporters of KUOW, you help make this show possible! Two candidates are running to represent Southeast Seattle, including Beacon Hill, the Chinatown-International District, Columbia City, and Rainier Beach. The District 2 seat was left vacant earlier this year when former City Councilmember Tammy Morales left the role. It’s being temporarily filled by Interim Councilmember Mark Solomon, but he’s going to step aside once voters decide which candidate they want to represent their community. The current candidates for District 2 are campaigning on platforms that prioritize key issues, like gun violence, housing and homelessness. We'll dig into the ways they differ so you can make an informed decision when you reach for your ballots. We’re talking about the future of a big job today: King County Executive.Whichever candidate is elected to this position will oversee the sheriff’s department, manage public health, transportation, public housing, and jails… according to the King County website, they’ll lead one of the largest regional governments in the United States. The last time we had an open race for King County Executive, Barack Obama was about to become President. And everyone was talking about some new Washington-based movie called “Twilight.” Today, two county leaders are vying for the job. Guests: Claudia Balducci is a member of the King County Council. She represents District 6, which includes Bellevue, Mercer Island, and Redmond. She is an attorney who previously served as Mayor of Bellevue, she was a Bellevue city council member, and Director of the Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention for King County. Girmay Zahilay is chair of the King County Council, representing District 2, which includes Skyway, Allentown, and the University District. He’s also an attorney and founded the non-profit Rising Leaders, which offers mentorship and leadership training for middle school students. Last week, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth shared an interview with Doug Wilson and his fellow pastors in which they claimed the 19th Amendment should be repealed becasue women are God-ordained to be absorbed into the households of men who are the "heads" and should do the voting for them. Normally, we might dismiss this as some fringe Christian Nationalism content that should be ignorned because of it's lack of consequence to our own lives. However, this was an interview with CNN and Doug Wilson's unhinged beliefs about women and minorities are gaining popularity with some of the people sitting in the seats of the highest offices in America. We can't afford to ignore these ideas because ideas turn into policies and policies determine the trajectory of our lives and world. Today's episode focuses on Doug Wilson, his beliefs about gender and race, and why it's important that we fight back these ideologies with every bit of strength we have within us.

On this week's Political Breakfast: Campaign fundraising is ramping-up. Strategists Tharon Johnson and Brian Robinson and host Lisa Rayam tackle the latest numbers in the 2026 Georgia Governor's race. On the Democratic side, Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, and state Senator Jason Esteves have surpassed the 1 million mark over roughly 2 months since both entered the race. For the GOP: Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones has loaned himself 10 million dollars while Republican Attorney General Chris Carr has raised more than 3-point-5 million since annoucing his bid in November. Do these numbers translate into the most competitive candidates? Plus, low voter turnout in the Democratic runoff for the Georgia Public Service Commission race. Brian and Tharon share why YOU should care.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Guest Speaker Pastor John Davis brings a message about the spiritual warfare believers face and how to overcome it with awareness and divine truth. The schemes of the enemy—distraction, drifting, and disturbance—seek to hinder God's purpose by attacking not possessions, but purpose itself. Believers are urged to confront misinformation, embrace spiritual renewal, and lean on God's grace for strength, discernment, and transformation through what he calls a “holy exchange.” If you would like to support WOCC financially you can give by clicking here: https://www.worldovercomers.church/give/ Scripture References: 2 Corinthians 2 Ephesians 6 Hosea 4 2 Timothy 1 2 Timothy 2 John 4 2 Kings 1 Ecclesiastes 3 2 Corinthians 10 Philippians 1 Isaiah 61
