I've known Natasha for ages and it's no exaggeration to say she's changed the landscape of gin consumption in her native Missouri, and indeed in the wider USA as well. Much as Julio Bermejo built a dedicated band of fanatics drinking 100% Blue Agave tequila at Tommy's, a suburb of San Francisco, Natasha did the same with gin, in her family's restaurant in St. Louis. Today, the Gin Room is a must-stop for every serious gin distiller in the USA, and her Gin World festivals have entranced people around the US and as far afield as Mexico. Teaching the why behind the how is crucial in our business. Anyone can learn to break a window. We need our people to know why we break windows so they'll know when to do it. More importantly, they'll know when not to. The same goes for search. We HAVE to occupy the interior to conduct searches. When we understand the fire ground and why we do things; we can operate safely in unsafe environments to affect positive outcomes. When we do not understand, we equate safety with complete risk aversion... a mindset our victims can't afford for us to have. Tyler Prater is a member of ST. louis Fire department. He is assigned to their Rescue 2. He is also a handler of USAR canines and a public safety diver.
