Recently, as I scroll through TikTok I come across a rapper's profile that caught my attention. His name is Robert AKA "Castor Pollux". A true lyricist to the fullest degree. As someone who aspires to own the experience of performing a hip hop song on stage at somepoint, I am thoroughly intrigued. His appearance as a performer not exactly reflecting your standard Hip Hop representative, led me to believe he may have something to offer with his vocalized talent. HE DOES NOT DISAPPOINT. Specifically, I'm fed videos of him behind a desk in a office cubicle. Wearing a cheesy polo apparently, lipsyincing to his own recorded songs. His chin draped in this ZZ top like beard narrowly avoiding a dip in his cup of Joe. I love the contrasting nature of his style. Reminiscent of a popular Hip Hop duo in the 90's titled "The High and Mighty", the sound of his unique voice and catchy cadence hypnotize the little chubby Hip Hop fan that resides within. Naturally, we hit it off as we journey into the past where it is revealed that our substitution for lack of a digital landscape fulfilling our need for adventure becomes the streets and it's inhabitants surrounding our broken family homes. A sacrifice of safety for a taste of the poetic yet dangerous side of reality. What better way than to transform the trauma into poetry. Spotify TikTok YouTube
Hip-Hop Artist Seven J - Betrayed by ChristianityDIVORCED: ChristianityTW: Discussion of suicidal ideationRaised in the heart of Jacksonville, FL, amidst the grit and hustle of the city's most notorious zip code, Seven J emerged as a powerhouse in the world of hip-hop. His music is a testament to his roots, blending raw, lyrical prowess with harmonious melodies that captivate listeners and transport them to another world. With a resume that boasts performances in iconic venues from Los Angeles to New York, Seven J has left his mark on stages worldwide. From the legendary Apollo Theater to the vibrant streets of Jamaica, his electrifying presence has enraptured audiences and earned him acclaim at every turn. Seven was a deeply trusting child, making him vulnerable to the promises of Christianity. His musical talent and compassion for others set him apart as a believer– but the racism he experienced INSIDE the Church as an employee was the spark needed to truly examine the faith he'd devoted his entire life to.While Divorcing Christianity has been disorienting for Seven, making music has been a powerful part of his recovery. He holds nothing back on his album, Sunday Mourning, with songs like If Your God is So Good, BulletZ, and I Lost Everything. His latest album “I Am Seven J” has songs like The Truman Show, Never Been There, and 5 Percent. If, like Seven, you've lost your once-cherished faith, he has words of truth you will relate to.FIND SEVEN J on all streaming platforms. https://sevenjsjm.bandcamp.com/track/sundaymourninghttps://music.apple.com/us/album/sunday-mourning/1563007215Janice Selbie's Best-selling book Divorcing Religion: A Memoir and Survival Handbook is now available in the USA https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DP78TZZF and CANADA https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0DP78TZZFTickets are now available for the Shameless Sexuality: Life After Purity Culture conference, happening LIVE in Seattle May 23-25, 2025! Heads up! There won't be a new episode next week because Joyhdae is busy with “adulting” duties, but don't worry—we've packed this episode with enough laughs and drama to hold you over! This week on Virgo Season, we're addressing the elephant in the room—Joyhdae's unexpected cold sore and her hilarious plea to Mother Nature. After a quick update on the woes of getting older, Ryan shares his latest discovery about Tesla's futuristic reveals, including robo-taxis and humanoid robots, which have tech lovers buzzing. But there's drama—Elon Musk is facing plagiarism accusations, and Tesla's stock tanked right after the event. Is Musk a tech genius, or is this all hype?Next, we recap the 2024 BET Hip-Hop Awards, where Kendrick Lamar stole the show with 8 wins, including Hip-Hop Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for "Not Like Us." Glorilla and Big Boogie rocked the stage with their performance of "Bop!"—easily the best of the night. And then there's Nicki Minaj, whose Pink Friday 2 took home Hip-Hop Album of the Year. But should Megan Thee Stallion's viral hit, as Joyhdae calls it "Watashi Wastar" have taken the crown instead? We dive into the debate.Speaking of hip-hop, J. Cole surprised everyone by dropping "Port Antonio," a response track amid the Kendrick Lamar vs. Drake tension. We discuss whether Cole should have stayed out of it or if his bars are a necessary addition to the conversation. Then we shift gears to some podcast drama: ShxtsNGigs came under fire after failing to defend Black women during a controversial appearance on another show. The backlash has been real, but is their apology enough to regain trust?Things also got heated when TI, Young Dro, and K-Dubb appeared on The Breakfast Club. K-Dubb's laughter during Dro's serious story about addiction led to a tense moment where Dro almost threw hands. We break down why this moment hit hard and the importance of respecting vulnerability. And finally, we talk about the viral story of 8-year-old Zoe, who drove her mom's car to Target for a $400 shopping spree. With the family dog in tow, Zoe's adventure has everyone laughing, but there's also a lesson here—maybe. We're talking pure Black excellence! Plus, Kamala Harris' new opportunity agenda for Black men is stirring conversations, but why are some still leaning toward Trump? We unpack the confusion and debate what's really behind these political divides.----Make sure to like, comment, and subscribe for more hilarious and thought-provoking episodes. Yangsta is a hip-hop artist and radio/podcast personality from Dartmouth Nova Scotia. He is an avid supporter of the local NS hip-hop scene and has been releasing music for over a decade. Yangsta's musical style is inspired by the likes of Will Smith, 2Pac, Jay-Z, Notorious BIG and other notable figures of old school 90s rap era. A lyrical perfectionist, Yangsta prefers to write bars on a pen and a pad vs. freestyling songs. The polished and to-the-point song structure in all of his music serves as a testament to his effort towards creating the best music. Yangsta co-hosted a popular radio show on 88.1fm CKDU called “Pyrate Radio”, a one-hour-long local hip hop show alongside Vadell Gabriel. Over the eight years of the show being active, the duo brought on countless guests from the local music community to showcase their content and talents, including the Blackout Podcast's host. Yangsta & Vadell also performed and DJ'd at various venues across the city such as the Gottingen 250 festival, “Family Over Fame” day, The Coast's “Food Truck party” and “Multi-cultural night” at MSVU. Yangsta's latest project “Tales From the Dark Side” #TFDS is a testament to his lyricism and life experiences as a resident of Dartmouth. The gritty yet energetic sounds of the project is an accurate reflection of life in the Dark Side and the unique vibe the city has. A must listen. Check him out @theyangsta7

Eventually, the two women also became business partners, their dreams and passions converging into the creation of Sip & Sonder. Established in 2017 in Inglewood, CA, Sip & Sonder is a global Black women-owned coffee brand with a portfolio of coffeehouses, a coffee roastery, and digital content spaces. Their journey began in an unlikely place, hidden, with no visibility and minimal foot traffic, but they managed to stay afloat. ' Today they occupy a larger space with a full kitchen and an off site roasting operation providing world class hospitality and service to their beautifully diverse neighborhood in Boyle Heights. Their coffee is truly some of the best in the city and I am thrilled to get to sit down with Leo and Elisa to talk about their journey. https://www.barrapicaresca.com/ Related episodes: 337: Founder Friday w/ Diana Martinez of Cafe Calle, Los Angeles 423 : Founder Friday! w/ Danny and Michelle Quiroz of Reserva Coffee Roasters | McAllen, TX 236 : Founder Friday! w/ Meil Castagna-Herrera & Curtis Herrera of Cafe Corazon! 348: Founder Friday! w/ Benito Burmudez of Cafe Unido, Panama City, Panama! 352: Music, Culture, and Coffee w/ Hip Hop Artist, Propaganda

Coffee is from Africa, yet the way we think of and enjoy coffee today is largely separated from the roots that produced that original fruit. The disparity we see in the value stream today, where those growing coffee do not receive the fruit of their labor, is the consequence. Today we get to talk with someone who has been laboring hard to honor coffee's root in an effort to create a better future for both those who grow coffee as well as for under served communities whose own cultures are tied closely to coffee's history. Bartholomew Jones is an emcee, cxffee nerd, and multi-hyphenate creative. Alongside his wife, Renata Henderson, he is the co-founder of Cxffeeblack and co-owner of the Anti-Gentrification Cxffee Club, a coffee educational center and cultural hub located in Memphis, TN. Founded in 2018, Cxffeeblack is a community-oriented, multi-disciplinary, education-based coffee company that became a trailblazer in the coffee industry by creating an entirely all Black coffee supply chain from Ethiopia to Memphis, TN, the first of its kind. Cxffeeblack is on a mission to return coffee to its African roots and in the process create an equitable Black future. Bart is a Sprudge 20 honoree, an annual list of the Top 20 coffee influencers cultivated by Sprudge Media Network, a renowned international authority on coffee and its culture; Cxffeeblack was one of the Coffee Coalition for Racial Equity's 2024 Innovator of the Year awardees.
