To celebrate the tenth anniversary of Gamecity I recorded a special edition of the show live from the festival. This is different to the usual show where I have one guest and talk about the games that shaped them. In this episode, the checkpoint is a single year, and my panel of guests talk about their life and the games they played at that exact point. Since this was the tenth anniversary of Gamecity, we decided on the year 2005. Myself, creator of Killbox Malath Abbas, host of One Life Left and creator of Chime Ste Curran, and the founder of Gamecity, Iain Simons, ruminate on the impact of that year. This show was recorded live from the National Videogame Arcade at Gamecity on the 29th of October. I was thrilled to do this, I hope you enjoy the show. Josh who was running the desk at the event did an incredible job with the recording, so huge thanks to him, to everyone at Gamecity, to my brilliant guests, and of course, to you.

Episode 24 of the Sheffield Digital Podcast features an interview with Iain Simons, director of the National Videogame Museum (NVM) (https://www.thenvm.org/) which has just opened in our fair city. We spoke to Iain from the NVM itself on the day of the launch. It’s a fascinating insight into the process of opening such a brilliant new addition to Sheffield’s tech and cultural landscape. Iain covers a range of topics, including his previous work at the National Videogame Arcade in Nottingham, young people and gaming, and of course, why and how the NVM came to Sheffield. Listen up – you’ll love it! As always, in part two of the show you can hear Mel and Chris talk about what they’ve been up to on behalf of Sheffield’s digital community. We also run through all the upcoming events and meetups in the city. Don’t forget you can subscribe to the show if you haven’t already. It's been a while since we were last on Resonance FM, but you will have no doubt been keeping up to date with our adventures by listening to our GDC podcasts. But there are few things that we held back as we needed time to reflect on them. What was Simon offered to bump people up the Marioke queue? Why have we not been added to the list of E3 attendees? What was David Braben watching on the flight back? Only one of these questions will be slightly answered. We're just not a match for the journalistic integrity of the 3am girls. Our Super-Special Guest was someone who demanded we did improve our integrity as our regular contributor Gameunder came into the studio. He demanded to be able to disseminate how games could be made better, which game has caused all these problems in the industry and why Kieron Gillen is ultimately to blame. We also had a mini-report about the National Videogame Arcade and learnt how to play Virtua Tennis without looking at the screen. Doctor Avatar and Sega Badawi provided recorded contributions to join in with Gameunder's live one. We've not got a show next week due to Egg Day, but there is a Marioke on the 16th and we'll be having one at Develop. Possibly on the Tuesday but it'll be confirmed on our next episode. Cheerio!
