About Dafna PlebanDafna Pleban is a veteran comic book editor and narrative developer whose career spans over 15 years across original and licensed publishing. Best known for her work at BOOM! Studios, Dafna has overseen hundreds of issues, helping launch award-winning titles like Lumberjanes, Fence, Seven Secrets, and Goldie Vance. She's worked with major creators including Tom Taylor, Mark Waid, and Kieron Gillen, and has shepherded beloved franchises such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dune, Planet of the Apes, Star Trek, and Power Rangers.Dafna's creative journey began at UCLA, where she majored in English after pivoting from microbiology and discovering her strengths lay in storytelling, not science labs. A lifelong comics fan, she broke into the industry through sheer hustle—running a podcast to score a press pass to Comic-Con, then turning that passion project into a marketing job at BOOM! and eventually into an editorial career. In this episode, Dafna reveals what it really means to be an editor in comics—from juggling creators and licensors to surviving the relentless pace of monthly publishing. We talk about the role of stress in the creative process, the economics behind launching a successful comic, and how great editors build trust, teams, and stories that resonate. Whether you're looking to pitch your first comic or just want a glimpse behind the curtain of franchise storytelling, Dafna's journey offers a masterclass in making creativity sustainable.Find Some of the Comic's Dafna's Worked on Here. Khelan and Brent deep dive into this character-driven conversation with Kieron Gillen, writer of Immortal X-Men, The Power Fantasy, DIE, and Wicked + Divine. Kieron gives insights into how he shaped his iconic Krakoan Quiet Council, what he wants people to get from his new ongoing series, The Power Fantasy, and he destroys Brent's game mentally and Khelan's playlist musically.
We did it big for a book that deserves it! We talk about a history of writing messy family group chats, justifying your own evil and writing the most powerful Black mind in comics.
Once again he returns... the one and only Kieron Gillen is back on the spaceship, after his last legendary interview (LISTEN HERE) we had to bring back Mr. Gillen to discuss everything around his new hit comic, The Power Fantasy!! You already know we dive deep into the woods on this one, breaking down everything from ethics vs morality, to which of the cast of the comic is most full of sh*t? Hint: It's all of them to Benhameen... Plus much more including Kieron giving his long awaited reaction to Jimi Hendrix: Purple Haze!!! On today's episode, I talk to artist Jamie McKelvie. Born in London, Jamie came to prominence in the world of comics through his collaborations with Kieron Gillen. In 2003, the two started a comic strip in PlayStation Magazine that lasted for three years. This led to their book Phonogram in 2006, and its subsequent sequels, as well as Young Avengers and The Wicked + The Divine. He's also illustrated stories and designed characters for Marvel on books like Cable, The Defenders, X-Men, Captain Marvel and Ms Marvel among others and created art for bands such as CHVRCHES, Art Brut and Tegan & Sara. Most recently, Jamie has been writing and drawing his own series One for Sorrow, which is being published by DSTLRY!
