Jacked Ramsays After Dark: Simons Gets 45, Blazers Get Back on Track

Join Danny Marang for a Jacked Ramsays After Dark that saw the Portland Trail Blazers defeat the Utah Jazz, 116-111 on the road and improve to 12-11 on teh season. It was a special night for Anfernee Simons, who finished the night with a new career high of 45 points on 15-25 FG, 7-12 3FG and 8-8 FT - who scored 36 of those points in the 1st half (also a career high for points in a half) but it all started with his 23 points in the 1st quarter (career high for points in a quarter) that got the Blazers the offense they needed to jump start them. After the offensive explosion for Simons in the 1st (40 points for the team) the scoring slowed to a standard pace that saw contributions up and down the board. Jerami Grant took over the 2nd half as Simons was clearly tired and finished with 13 of his 33 points in the 4th quarter. A slow and awkward first half from Jusuf Nurkic turned into one of Nurk's most impactful 2nd halves of the season - where perhaps only his early season performance against Deandre Ayton and the Suns being more important. He was a deterrent at the rim, secured rebounds and traffic and generated multiple 2nd chance opportunities that Portland desparately needed down the stretch. Trendon Watford and Greg Brown III both played big roles tonight with their energy and hustle - 9 points, 14 rebounds and also cleaned up on the offensive glass. While Brown III brought energy when the Blazers needed it, finishing with 6 points and 4 rebounds along with some rather inspired defense. All in all, a great win for the Blazers when they needed it most. Thet got it done by getting into their offense early, trusting the hot hand when it was going and timely defensive stops. Significantly more fun and reminiscent to how the season started. Tap in and enjoy the show! Head Shepherd
Success with sexed semen with Professor Simon de Graaf

Head Shepherd

Play Episode Play 40 sec Highlight Listen Later Dec 4, 2022 39:53

This week on the Head Shepherd podcast we have Professor Simon de Graaf, a fellow podcaster and a world expert in sheep reproduction, sperm sexing and AI.Simon is currently a Professor of Animal Reproduction at The University of Sydney,  where he says 90% of the work he does now is sheep "But my background is such that we've dealt with a lot of different species."Simons work in reproduction began during his PhD where he studied sexed semen. Mark asks for a run through of the process of sexing semen."It's all based on the fact there's a different amount of DNA in a male sperm and a female sperm." explains Simon. "The X chromosome is bigger than the Y chromosome so if you add a special dye to it, you can pick up the higher florescence in the X chromosome." The method for successfully separating sexed semen was a success. "The big challenge, after they initially developed the technology, was keeping the sperm alive though the process." explains Simon. "It's a lot to be shot through a cannon at 80 miles an hour...it's not a recipe for long life. So there was a lot of research that went into keeping them happy and healthy in the process" Fast forward 20 years and the results of sexed semen have pretty good conception rates."There's certainly been some people that have gotten fantastic results in recent times and [they] are going back for second or even third sexed semen programs. You should expect, if everything goes right, around your normal AI, which is around 70%."Mark asks if Simon is involved in anything that might explain the variability of AI success."With in my team, Dr Jessica Rickard and Eloise Spanner, they have just commenced a project on prediction of AI success."Part of this project is to attempt to place a few more numbers or gather more information on what makes for a success or what makes for a failure.Mark and Simon then cover "Reproduction Co", Simons latest venture."I've always been quite interested in the commercial space and I was keen to offer the semen assessment service at a national level. So what I decided to do was set up this business. Amongst other things it's offering standardised semen testing.""We have three labs where everyone is doing the same thing, following the same protocols. They've been trained in the same way and we exchange reference samples to check we're all seeing the same thing and scoring the same thing.""We all talk about how expensive AI programs are...I would argue that you should take a look at the semen that you are going to be using.  Check it for numbers, looks, swimming patterns.... Why not test for those things if they are relatively inexpensive in comparison to a failure?" he asks. Simon delves into the science behind artificial insemination and he and Mark discuss the future of AI. Currently work is going on to facilitate cervical AI in sheep with frozen semen. And finally, Simon discusses his podcast "Repro Radio" which covers all aspects of reproduction. From human fertility to wildlife conservation. If you would like to know more about Simon, The Reproduction Co or his podcast "Repro Radio" you can follow the links below. https://www.thereproductionco.com/https://www.simondegraaf.com/Check out The Hubthehub.nextgenagri.comOur community where our members have the opportunity to keep up to date with everything we are working on.

Wow, check out that new whiz-bang marketing campaign by Montreal-based Simons. The retail chain isn't promoting its line of clothing nor home goods, rather, it's promoting… suicide? What the hell? Sheila Gunn Reid has all the gruesome details… Do you remember the horrific case of Candice Sero, the elderly indigenous woman who was trampled by a police horse in Ottawa back in February? Well this just in: the Special Investigations Unit is no longer investigating her case any longer – apparently, she wasn't maimed enough. Unbelievable. Our Montreal-based reporter, Alexa Lavoie – who was also injured in Ottawa last February thanks to police brutality – has all the scoop. And letters, we get your letters, we get your letters every minute of every day. And you had plenty to say about Justin Trudeau's Royal Canadian Mounted Henchmen looking like the Argos' defensive line by once again physically preventing Prime Minister Blackface McGroper from hearing any insensitive questions from Rebel News. Those are your Rebels, now let's round 'em up!

Support the show: https://krant.nlSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Join Danny Marang for a post game wrap up where the Portland Trail Blazers go into Miami and split the season series on a last second game winner from Josh Hart - locking in a 110-107 win and the 2nd win in 3 games if a 6 game trip! After a muddy first half that saw the Blazers commit 12 turnovers, the Blazers tightened things down a bit in the 3rd quarter - nearly matching Miami 21-20 heading into the fourth. When the Blazers just couldn't get over the hump, Coach Billups went small at the 6:15 mark and that was it - Justise Winslow set the pace attacking and Anfernee Simons followed. The Blazers outscored the Heat 37-26 in the period, repeatedly breaking open the Heat's zone that had worked for 42+ minutes previously. Simons had 12 in the 4th buoyed by two and-1 trips off of aggressive drives - the team shot 13 of 17 in the quarter and gave Hart a chance to seal it by not calling a timeout and pushing the ball of a Heat make - the rest is history! Tap in now and enjoy what's been a tremendous start to the Blazer's season! Join Danny Marang and Brandon Sprague as they answer as many of your Blazers related questions as they can. The Blazers are off to a 6-3 start with 4 games remaining on a 6 game trip. Damian Lillard is getting healthier, Anfernee Simons is struggling with a nagging foot injury, Jusuf Nurkic is up & down, Shaedon Sharpe is showing out, Jerami Grant is hitting game winners and the Blazers have already taken the season series from the Suns. In between, there's a lot of questions to ask! Should Nassir Little be looking at a bigger role sooner than later? In his limited minutes, Little has been one of - if not the most efficient offensive players the Blazers have off the bench. His ability to attack close outs and either pull up at 15 feet or get all the way to the rim gives the Blazers a much needed offensive dimension. However, with Josh Hart's ball handling being in such high demand with injuries, there hasn't been as much room to get Little onto the floor. When either/both Lillard and Simons return - could we be looking at Little taking a few minutes from Hart? In 9 games, has Shaedon Sharpe already become untouchable? What does that even mean? Has Jusuf Nurkic's play been good enough - and if so - is it sustainable? can he continue to be relied upon to knock down 3's? How much faith has he restored (if any) after such a poor start in the preseason? There's a lot going on out there and we've got you covered - so tap in! Learn more about your ad choices. Support the show: https://krant.nlSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Prepare for your most Christ-soaked Advent yet | with Ruth Chou Simons

Gospel Spice

Ruth Chou Simons joins Stephanie today to invite families into an unconventional, life-changing Advent season. How can we prepare for a DIFFERENT kind of Advent - when Jesus is truly the center? How can we cultivate a posture of gratitude, an attitude of receiving goodness from the Lord, and a desire of deeper delight in His glory this Christmas season? How can we live an Advent season that is a true experience of what we do know about the goodness of the Lord? And, how can we carry Advent into all our other seasons of life - from January to November? Why and how is Christmas relevant in March, in July, in September--and every other season? Don't miss Ruth's powerful prayer for you towards the end of their conversation! The Advent season, brimming with glad tidings and great joy, is often followed by disappointment, post-holiday letdown, dashed expectations, and exhaustion. Box up the ornaments and take down the garland; put away the artificial trees and cheery red bows and flannel sheets: Christmas, with all its hustle and bustle, tinsel and twinkle lights, carols and celebrations, is over. But shouldn't post-Christmas feel more like an afterglow and less like an aftershock? Why don't even the best of celebrations feel like enough? After receiving so many gifts—including the birth of Christ, why is unfulfillment still lurking? Bestselling author, speaker and gifted artist behind GraceLaced Co., Ruth Chou Simons once asked those same questions at the end of the Advent season. She found herself wanting, in search of something that outlasted the month of December. In her new devotional, Emmanuel: An Invitation to Prepare Him Room at Christmas and Always, Ruth offers a fresh take on the Advent experience, showing readers that the birth of Jesus—the Christmas story—is only the beginning. And that the resurrection—often overlooked in December—is the most life-changing event. She guides readers on a beautifully-illustrated 25-day journey that changes the way they celebrate the season and live the rest of the year.  “If Jesus is the reason for the season, then the resurrection is really the most life‐changing event we can celebrate. The baby Jesus born to Mary and Joseph in Bethlehem is truly a miracle only because he was the promised Messiah,” she writes. “Without the cross, the baby in the manger is but novel and fascinating, not life‐changing. And what we long for right now, in the midst of the hustle, the mess, and the mundane, is life-changing. We want the Christmas miracle to change our lives and not just our wallets … Perhaps when we struggle to experience that kind of heart change at Christmas it is because we've left the resurrection out of our celebration of the incarnation.” In Emmanuel, Ruth combines her beautiful original artwork with personal insight and practical application. Each day in the book highlights a Bible passage, question to ponder, Christmas carol, and prayer. She helps readers understand they were created to know much more than the bustle, or even the magic, of Christmas; they were made to know Christ—the answer they have been longing for.  “When you see an infant lying in a manger this Christmas—a popular visual image representing the miraculous story in Scripture—don't let your affections remain there,” writes Simons. “Jesus is more than a baby, more than a beautiful miracle in a harsh world. He is more than a familiar figure sung about in festive tunes. Jesus is God with us—Immanuel, just as the angel of the Lord told Joseph.”  “The true miracle of Christmas isn't simply the virgin birth; it's much greater than even such an impossibility. No, the miracle of Christmas is in this: that a holy God made a way for all who believe to come to Him...by first coming to us. Let that sink in. God's promises, fulfilled by God Himself, are more than remarkable; they merit a response—not to get busy, but to fall down in reverence and awe for our great God.” MEET RUTH CHOU SIMONS Ruth Chou Simons is a Wall Street Journal bestselling and award-winning author of several books, including GraceLaced, Beholding and Becoming and When Strivings Cease, as well as the TruthFilled Bible study. She is an artist, entrepreneur, and speaker, using each of these platforms to spiritually sow the word of God into people's hearts. Does this concept strike you as reserved for spiritual contemplatives? What if, instead, it proved the highly practical, deeply foundational perspective you need right now? Why does God's glory even matter in our day and age? How can we learn from Jesus to make His glory our true North and lifelong quest? What keeps us from fully stepping into this God-ordained purpose for our life? How do we kindle delight for God on a daily basis? And, once we have embraced God's glory as our heart's true delight, how can we then come alongside others? Join us to cultivate a sincere delight for God's glory, rooted in an honest, hard look at the depth of our need, and in the much deeper Reality of His grace. Trace the glory of God through Scripture and in your own life. Behold the exact radiance of God's glory, revealed in Jesus. Learn to see yourself as Christ does—through the lens of the Father's love at the cross. Jesus offers to overwhelm our deadly self-centeredness with His resurrection power. Shaedon Sharpe is going to be good. Probably very good. Maybe great. In his first NBA start the Portland Trail Blazers rookie gave fans plenty to be excited about with a few show stopping highlight dunks and a couple smooth-as-butter pull up jumpers. He's 19. He's going to be good. In the second segment I continue my quest to get to know Sharpe better. He's a quiet kid who is a apparently funny and well liked behind the scenes. While his game is loud his demeanor couldn't be more opposed. Which is why I set out to ask Chauncey Billups what it has been like to coach the teenager for last few months. Plus, a couple anecdotes about watching Sharpe learn the NBA game in real time. He's going to be good. The third segment is news and notes. Jusuf Nurkic was really good in this game and dominated a team couldn't match up with his size. That's a good sign. Anfernee Simons was awesome but his weaknesses were on display late against Houston. The difference between good and great is right there for Simons. Plus Josh Hart is in the concussion protocol. 'Simons is in topvorm. Join host Danny Marang for a rapid reaction to Friday night's game between the Portland Trail Blazers and the Houston Rockets that saw the Blazers improve to 5-1 on the season, winning 125-111. The Blazers were lifted by 30 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds from Anfernee Simons, 27 points, 15 rebounds and 3 blocks from Jusuf Nurkic and 14 points, 2 assists and tremendously highlight reel dunks from rookie Shaedon Sharpe in his starting debut slotting in for the injured Damian Lillard. Stellar performances for Simons and Nurkic are not new, both have had better nights in their careers - both on the box score and in impact. Tonight was about a thunderous arrival of Sharpe - felt repeatedly through each ferocious dunk thrown down by the Canadian rookie. The crowd rose to a crescendo in a sequence that saw Sharpe get loose on a fast break and hammer down a right handed tomahawk with Jalen Green trailing him, then immediately after that Keon Johnson forced a turnover and threw a lob into the atmosphere for Sharpe to go get and go get he did. That, plus Ingram is out, whether relegation would ever work between the NBA and G League, the Nets' poor season ticket sales, Westbrook trade possibilities, and more. ⭐️ Join No Dunks NBA Survivor Pool to win prizes! https://play.runyourpool.com/nodunks

Join host Danny Marang for a rapid reaction to the Portland Trail Blazers 135-110 win led by Anfernee Simons' nuclear third quarter 22 points and Damian Lillard's 31 point night against Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray and Aaron Gordon's Denver Nuggets. Segment 1: Turns Out, One of the Best Shooters in the NBA Can Still Shoot the Ball after 3 Poor Outings What? You didn't think EYE was going to victory lap this one? You know me better than that by now, or at least you should. Yes, the guy who's been one of the purest shooters in the league over the last two years found his jumper after a sub-par dare I say bad 3 shooting games? Well Anfernee Simons got hot and didn't cool off for an entire quarter - to the tune of 22 points, 6-7 from distance and 8-9 from the field and half of Portland's 44 points in the period. Segment 2: Is the Defense, for REAL for real? While a sluggish start marred the Blazers for the 4th straight game they again clawed their way back into the game with defensive intensity for more than a couple minutes. Turnovers were forced, fast breaks were had and slowly but surely Portland whittled away at a Nugget lead going into the half. Then in the third quarter the dam broke behind Simons' salve AND the Blazers held Denver to just 25 in the period. We've seen the offensive fireworks before, but not backed by sustained defense. That's 4 games in a row. This might be a thing. Segment 3: The Blazers finally clean up the sloppy stuff! The Blazers have had a real issue heading into tonight's game being loose with the ball - 22 of their 52 total turnovers have came about as a “bad pass.” Lillard being the chief offender with 11 such turnovers. You know the type, lazy and or air-mailed passes that end up igniting an opponent's break or stifling a possession. After a few errant passes in the first half the Blazers tightened things up and even started flexing a bit - with Simons whipping a behind the back pass to Nurkic and rifling two one-handed passes, one to Josh Hart for a dunk the other to Lillard for a wing three. You started to see what the offense COULD be when it fires on all cylinders and then some. Tap in for the post game wrap up show and don't forget to subscribe! Ryan Blackburn recaps the Denver Nuggets 135-110 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. Nikola Jokić attempted just four shots, Jamal Murray missed his final nine shots in a row, and the Nuggets bench once again looked lost offensively. Those issues pale in comparison to Denver's defense though, which has been atrocious for four straight games. Ryan discusses the starters, bench, and takeaways from Denver's ugly defeat on Monday night.
