The jazz standard "All The Things You Are" has been performed countless times by master jazz vocalists, 30s big bands, bebop small groups, hard-bop combos, modern deconstructionists, and even soon-to-be Kings of Pop. On this episode, Kirk takes listeners through the history of the now-famous tune, from its humble Broadway origins all the way to his recording studio in Portland, where he and some friends recorded an all-new arrangement just for Strong Songs.Music/Lyrics: Jerome Kern & Oscar Hammerstein IIVersions Featured:Broadway Original Cast Recording of "Very Warm for May," - 1939Tommy Dorsey and His Orchestra, feat. 1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol — that our lives had become unmanageable.2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

This is the first of what should be several episodes where I focus on one or a few players from each team as guys who the Magic are, could, and/or should be targeting to acquire this offseason. Let's make our way to Portland. Anfernee Simons. He has to be the #1 most discussed Magic rumored target at the moment. Hometown Orlando guy. He's named after my favorite basketball player of all time (Anfernee Hardaway). He was at the Celtics series at Kia Center. Simons would certainly help resolve our offensive problems. All of that and more! #LetsGoMagic Warning: Adult Language

In this episode of The Cordial Catholic, I'm joined by Jill Simons, author, speaker, and the driving force behind Many Parts Ministries, which helps Catholics discern their spiritual gifting and charisms. We're going to talk, this week, about how we figure out where we fit in the Catholic Church – especially for those who have just become Catholic, will become Catholic shortly, or are thinking about becoming Catholic. We talk about how to discern what you're good at, how the lay person in the Catholic Church can and should get involved, and how the Body of Christ is truly enabled when Catholics figure out where they fit – and get involved there! It's a fantastic and, at times, fiery conversation! Jill loves this topic and is deeply passionate about it – and it shows!
