We start off talking about preservation of television video from the late 90's and 2000's - and why it looks a lot worse today than we remember when it first aired. PEGI has reclassified Balatro and Luck Be A Landlord down to a PEGI-12 rating from a PEGI-18, which was given because it had elements of gambling. PEGI's statement described how it was modifying its rating rules to account for "fantastical elements" in games like Balatro. EA has released the source code for many of their Command & Conquer titles, which are fun to go through and will help the modding community greatly, but won't really teach you how to make a game in 2025. Warner Bros is closing Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and WB Games San Diego, and cancelling their projects, including a Wonder Woman game. Monolith Productions had patented the "Nemesis" system from Shadow of Mordor, and now Warner Bros holds on to the patent until 2036, while most likely not using it in any more games - but will stop other games from incorporating the same mechanic. Then we talk about how March is gonna have a lot of great game releases.

Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we start a new series on Heroes of Might and Magic. We set the game a little in its time, talk about the way the game creates a divergent path from other tactical turn-based combat games. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Sections played: Some tutorial, some standard, some campaign Issues covered: the multiverse/divergent evolution, a game that wasn't copied, long games, setting the game in its time, moving more to real-time combat, finite audiences, action became important for larger audiences, the experimentation in the space, the unexpected battle map, an automated complicated board game, tabletop wargaming, wondering how you get from the main series to this, SSI's path, playing the tutorial, the early game, resources and time and other elements, the city view, generating armies and garrisoning, other things that buildings provide, the hero doesn't fight, choosing your heroes and what units you get, retreating and surrendering, leveling your heroes, not being expected to win the first game, the world map, exploring and watching the world map progress, considering multiplayer, metaphors for humanity (computing, industry, alignments, attributes), grinding, wanting cinematography controls in in-game cutscenes, deleting the chip bag, giving the cheats, #PecsAndGlutesForLyfe. Games, people, and influences mentioned or discussed: Ubisoft, New World Computing, Jon Van Caneghem, Final Fantasy Tactics, X-COM, Populous, Black & White, Marvel Midnight Suns, Freedom Force, Wildermyth, Civilization, Richard Garriott, Kaeon, NES/SNES, Chrono Trigger, Dark Forces, Full Throttle, Jagged Alliance, Dragon Quest VI, Rayman, Hexen, Suikoden, PlayStation, Warcraft 2, The Dig, Twisted Metal, Kings Field 2, Command & Conquer, Total Annihilation, World of Warcraft, Fallout, Firaxis, Final Fantasy (series), Baldur's Gate, Diablo, David Brevik, Archon, Gary Gygax, Dave Arneson, Chivalry, Dungeons & Dragons, Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel, Commandos, SSI, Ultima (series), Eye of the Beholder, Cinemaware, Defender of the Crown, Taylor, The Sims, Majora's Mask, GURPS, Baron, Shadow Tactics, Tacoma, Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, Metal Gear Solid (series), Halo, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, Braid, Quake, Daron Stinnett, Celeste, Jeffool, Final Fantasy VI, Kirk Hamilton, Aaron Evers, Mark Garcia. The Command & Conquer (C&C) real-time strategy series, first developed by Westwood Studios, has been a genre-defining and commercially successful franchise ever since its introduction in the mid-nineties. Any kid from that era who grew up with a PC capable of playing games has likely played at least one title from the long running series. This podcast episode relives what it was like going through the installation, building an army, and talks about the strategies used way back when to help either the Global Defense Initiative or the Brotherhood of Nod to victory.
Take your armies out of your sleevies because we're back (a little later than usual!) and we're looking at 3 Real Time Strategy games... kind of.This week we put Command and Conquer (80), UFO: Enemy Unknown (65) and Lemmings (46) under the microscope to see how the RTS genre evolved. We ponder questions such as; why did this originally get made for consoles, why did this get ported to consoles and... why god why would this get ported to N64... amongst other things.Jay also reminisces about nightmare-inducing character costumes, and tests Eddie on his Command and Conquer knowledge!Yuri really going to regret it if you miss this one!Note to Ric Flair: Please don't sue us, we love you really! Back into the 90s PC project and this week is our first dip into the RTS genre, that's the one we called the definitive PC gaming genre. We've had a number of strategy games we've wanted to play over the course of the show, and the first proper RTS on our list is Command & Conquer. In many ways, it was a major leap forward, but it is trapped in a genre that did a lot of evolving beyond it. Can we ever forgive it for being old?
It's time to return to what we do best, pitching N64 games against each other to see who will win. What do they win? No idea... but it's fun doing it. This weeks Battle for Jinjos is against the N64's 2x RTS games, StarCraft 64 and Command & Conquer. Will this be a battle for the ages or will we have to wait as the podcast will not comply, as building is in progress.Twitter/Instagram: www.twitter.com/n64lifepodcast / https://www.instagram.com/n64lifepodcast/Discord: discord.gg/5ZRmTRJSAgemail: n64lifepodcast@gmail.comTwitch: www.twitch.tv/n64lifepodcastGraphics Credit: PitchNiormusic credit: www.twitter.com/JerdenCookePresenter/Producer: Cliff FosterTwitter: www.twitter.com/theamazingcliff Hosted on Acast. Show Topic Topic: 2022, the year of tactics. Advance Wars: Re-Boot Camp Triangle Strategy Mario VS Rabbids: Sparks of Hope Metal Slug Tactics Front Mission 1st Dune Spice Wars twodollarhero — My love for the criminally underrated Codename STEAM is well documented at this point, but I'm constantly thinking about how good Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle was. Every time it comes up in conversation, it's like a fever dream. That concept had no business being that good of a strategy game. the Well-Red Mage — FF Tactics, somedays my all-time favorite Final Fantasy ❤️ Fight Crab Fanatic — Jeanne D'Arc for the PSP was really good (and unforgiving) Mystaria Realms of Lore for the Sega Saturn oops — Tactics ogre and final fantasy tactics (my favorite game of all time)are the goats but a very underrated game I really enjoyed was arc the lad twilight of spirits on ps2. ElPeeDee (Liam D) — the Fire Emblem and Advance Wars GBA games are favorites of mine since I played them on my SP in the back of my college Economics classes (woops). in the broader strategy sense, i spent a lot of time playing the Command & Conquer series over the years and just started playing through Warcraft 2 again. I love base building and planning out offensives Flightsy — Does Pikmin count? I don't really play tactics games, but they've always seemed interesting. Actually, this leads into a CCQ of my own! What are some good Strategy and Tactics games I could try out? solo_something — FE 3 houses. Love how it's tactics and some drops of rpg running around the grounds as I complete quest, reunite missing items, and take time for a cup of tea; sometimes from what I planted. Also, helping a girl realize she doesn't have to stay locked up in her room. SpiderShan — I have the most experience with Fire Emblem games which I first picked up on a whim on GameCube (Path of Radiance). Since then I've played nearly all the English released games in the series. I don't mind the newer games like Three Houses, but I miss the older ones without the dating/marrying/kids stuff. My favorite strategy game is probably the original FF:Tactics. The GBA sequel was okay but I wasn't crazy about the Law mechanics which bogged down the battles. I really want to get into Triangle Strategy one of these days! Community Couch Questions Flightsy — CCQ: How do you find good retro stores near you? I've tried looking it up and only stuff like Game stop and Disc Replay seems to come up. Fight Crab Fanatic — If you had to collect a niche of retro games what would you pick? (example: WWII games, Wrestling games, The DS Imagine Babysitters series) oops — 03/19/2022 What's a game you missed when it was new then revisited later and you could not believe how good it was? In this episode, Tim & Ramsay discuss: - The brief history of Command & Conquer - Our our history with the games - Gatekeeping in gaming - The possible future of the franchise
I got a present for ya, and it's not C4 from Command & Conquer's GDI commando. It's the saladcast one day early! Rejoice! Rob checks out…
It's that time of the year when everyone starts talking about lots, hammer prices and buyers premiums — yep, Auction season. Many of the major houses all hold significant auctions in Geneva, along with some more special events. One such, being the Pink Dial Project, a charity auction put together by Revolution and supported by other media platforms and held on Eric Ku's Loupe This platform. We chat about the $500k plus result and the surprising watch that pulled in $172K. We also catch up on the results of the star-studded Only Watch, another charity auction of unique pieces that saw five lots hammer in for more than one million francs, with the whole auction raising $32.1 USD. Then there are the less charitable lots, like a significant Dufour, and an early Omega that achieved an eye-watering record price. All this and more (G-Shock, sailcloth straps and GPHG analysis) in this week's episode. This episode is brought to you by G-Shock Australia. Tune in to Andy chatting up the vivid red GM2100B-4A, and why it reminds him of that classic RTS game, Command & Conquer.

Habt einfach e bissi Spass!
This week, Ad and Tom are talking about Command and Conquer. The game that threw RTS into the mainstream and popularised the genre for many in the 90's. Certainly one of our favourite memories and a great look back at this seminal game. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we conclude our series on Populous with a special guest interview with Glenn Corpes, the original programmer who came up with a little generator for height maps that ended up launching a whole genre; we'll talk about that and tons of other topics. ¡Felicidades a PS! Hello! So good to be back. My guest on today's episode is the amazing Mike Cook Mike is an AI researcher, the founder of #procjam (this year's even has just started so you should check it out.) and the creator of ANGELINA an AI system that makes video games. As you can imagine, this is a mind blowing and fascinating talk. It honestly completely reshaped the way I think about and understand AI. There's also a ton of great video game stories like the surprise LAN party he had for his 10th birthday, how Command & Conquer cracked open his mind, his mum keeping the secrets of Monkey Island to herself, his 1000s of hours with DOTA 2 and how the AI he created to create games reflects the games he creates himself. – A qué estamos jugando: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. – Despedida.

A little late, but here I am with episode 14! This time around we chat about the great paranormal mystery adventure game series, Gabriel Knight. As usual though, the news: Project Eternity is a kickstarter RPG made in the vein of late 90's PC RPG's like Icewind Dale and Planetscape: Torment. If you like that style of game, check it out! Sword of Fargoal 2 is an attempt (again on kickstarter) to bring back the Sword of Fargoal roguelike dungeon crawler from the Commodore 64. Again, if this type of game is your bag, give it a look! Finally, in Steam news, the demo for the new X-COM: Enemy Unknown game is available for download. The full game is due to release on October 9th, 2012. We then have two great listener emails where we go back and chat a bit about Command & Conquer. Now, on to our main topic for the week, Sierra's Gabriel Knight series. I go into great detail about the first game, Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers. We talk story, gameplay, tech focus and the rest. In dev story I go into the rest of the games in the series as well. I end off with a live performance of some soundtrack music from the first game. You can get all three GK games on GoG.com: Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery Gabriel Knight 3: Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned Next time, we check out an interesting 1993 tactical strategy series, Syndicate. Hope to see you then!
