Valve has provided the strongest indication yet that the Steam Machine price will be set with similar performance PCs in mind, and confirmed it has no plans to subsidize the hardware like console manufacturers do by eating a big loss on each unit sold. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild", "Super Mario Odyssey", "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe", "Super Mario Bros. Wonder", "Super Smash Bros. It's Halloween, so we decided to do a "scary" one! Podcaster, author, and emissary from the City of Brotherly Love Trevor Strunk joins to discuss Robert Rodriguez's 1998 Breakfast-Club-Meets-Body-Snatchers riff The Faculty. Boasting a memorable cast of young up-and-comers and a script written by Scream-scribe Kevin Williamson, the film is both playfully self-aware and slyly subversive in its explorations of social hierarchies and the omnipresent 90s fixation with conformity to the monoculture. We begin by exploring how the film updates the Body Snatcher narrative, borrowing (and explicitly citing) the literary works of Robert A. Heinlen and Jack Finney, as well as both previous Body Snatchers film adaptations by Don Siegel and Philip Kaufman. Then, we contend with some of the movie's most intriguing premises - its assertions about capitalist hierarchies and how they maintain the oppression of marginalized out-groups as well as how American society impedes gratifying sexual expression (especially for women). Finally, we examine the deceptively cynical ending and what it suggests about the stickiness of the neoliberal order, its structural hold on the horizons of our sociopolitical imagination. Welcome to episode 143 of Nintendo Therapy — the show where we dive into the latest Nintendo news, rumors, and retro memories, all while celebrating the games that keep us coming back. This week we deep dive into Luigi's Mansion — just in time for spooky season. What does Shane want in the PlayStation 6 and next Xbox? Will frame generation make future consoles cheap enough for us plebes? Getting into the Halloween spirit!
This week on The Gaming Duo, we're asking the big question — are we witnessing the end of traditional gaming consoles? I give my early impressions of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles after revisiting it for the first time in decades. Microsoft has stated that they are still committed to making traditional consoles. Nintendo has sued a moderator of a Switch piracy subreddit. Then we talk to Rob about Tron: Ares and the upcoming final episode of Orange Lounge Radio.
This Week: Halo’s Art Director drops a cryptic message as he leaves the studio after 17 years, and are major retailers slowly pulling Xbox hardware from their stores? We catch up on the formation of a brand-new studio, Sackbird Studios, made up of a group of former ZeniMax developers, and news on Ubisoft’s canceled and controversial Assassin’s Creed game. This week, I chat with tech guru Vikrant Mathur, co-founder of Future Today, who is about to blow the lid off playing games on your Smart TV without using a console. It’s This Week in Gaming!
Next-gen console rumors are certainly simmering, as both PlayStation and Xbox have had news emerge regarding their potential console or console-like device, potentially releasing as early as 2027. This may mean we get more compelling real news even in 2026. But is it too early for next-gen? Or does it just seem that way? Do we even need Next-Gen as soon as 2027? Sean and Marc discuss this and more. Compound this with news from Circana about the number of games the majority of gamers buy, and it is yet another telling story about why things may be the way they are for AAA gaming. Does this concern the duo? Or is it just kind of how it's always been, and we just didn't have all these datapoints before? Plus, Marc has more thoughts on Hades 2, Sean's been playing Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, and Little Nightmares 3. Is Xbox done at Target and Walmart too? Ubisoft's canceled Assassin's Creed Civil War game, Nintendo Switch 2 keeps selling, and much more!
