Coach McGraw spent 33 years as the head coach of the Notre Dame women's basketball team, and by the time she retired last Spring McGraw finished her career with a 936-292 record, nine Final Four appearances, seven championship game appearances, two NCAA championships, and three National Coach of the Year awards. McGraw's impressive coaching tree includes a Women's Basketball Hall of Famer, multiple Olympians, and many more who went on to hit the main stage in the WNBA. Now that she's retired, McGraw is using her platform to uplift women up in the sports world and beyond. Muffet McGraw is the head coach of the Notre Dame women's basketball team. Her teams have won two national championships and competed in nine final fours. Coach McGraw was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame and is widely recognized as one of the all-time great college basketball coaches. In this episode of SGG, we discussed: 1. Going into a bubble on gamedays. 2. Being grateful and supporting others during difficult times. 3. Learning from former St. Joseph's Coach Jim Foster. 4. Muffet McGraw, Head Coach for Notre Dame Women's Basketball, shared the story behind her title with us on October 13, 2019.
Madison Cable was a member of the Notre Dame Women's Basketball team from 2012-2016, won 4 straight conference tournament championships, and went to 3 Final Fours. Madison chats about how she got into basketball, winning 3 State Championships at Mount Lebanon High School, and her recruiting process to college. She discusses how hard it was having to redshirt her Freshman year due to stress fractures in both feet, the unique first game she played for Notre Dame, being a role player her first 2 seasons, and her huge game at Tennessee in 2014. Madison also describes being 6th man in 2015 and the importance of that role, and the biggest shot she's ever hit- the game winner in the Final Four against South Carolina. She explains her decision to return for a 5th year, the incredible year she had as a starter in 2016, becoming a Grad Assistant at Wisconsin for 2 years after her time at ND, and her strong bond with her teammates that still exists today.
Kristina Nelson played for the Notre Dame Women's Basketball team from 2014-2018 and was a member of the 2018 National Championship team. Kristina chats about growing up in Buford, Georgia, and playing with and against good friend Kaela Davis, transferring high schools, and why she chose Notre Dame. Kristina also opens up about a family tragedy, and how her Buford community and Notre Dame community were there for her during a difficult time. She also discusses the transition from high school to college basketball, having to redshirt due to a shoulder injury, choosing to use her 5th year of eligibility to come back to Notre Dame and ultimately win the National Championship, and her new job position with the University of Minnesota Football Team.
Lindsay Allen played for the Notre Dame Women's Basketball team from 2014-2017, starting every single game in her career, leading the Irish to 4 consecutive ACC Regular Season Championships and 4 consecutive ACC Tournament Championships, and breaking the ACC record for career assists. Lindsay was drafted 14th overall in the 2017 WNBA draft, playing for the New York Liberty and Las Vegas Aces. She's also played overseas in Russia and Australia. Lindsay chats with Bridget B. about her decision to go to Notre Dame, replacing Skylar Diggins at the point guard position, making multiple Final Fours, her mindset as a point guard, playing for legendary coach, Muffet McGraw, her crazy journey from Russia to Columbus to see Notre Dame win the 2018 title, and much more!
