Post-Gazette Pitt insiders Stephen Thompson and Abby Schnable break down the Panthers' 37-15 loss to Notre Dame on Saturday from Acrisure Stadium. Did Pitt miss a major opportunity to show out on a big stage on national TV and with "College GameDay" in town? What went wrong for the offense? Does Mason Heintschel deserve blame for his poor performance, or was it a case of not having much help from his teammates? What positives can the defense take away, as it actually fared well against the Fighting Irish despite being put in some horrible positions? And Is there any reason to believe Pitt can still win the ACC championship, with big games against Georgia Tech and Miami looming? Our duo answers those questions and more. Host Adam Bittner welcomes Post-Gazette sports columnist Paul Zeise to preview Pitt football's ranked showdown against Notre Dame at Acrisure Stadium. This show is presented by FanDuel. Do the Panthers need a win to generate buzz in the city? More than they need it for their ACC and College Football Playoff chances, as coach Pat Narduzzi alluded to this week? Do Desmond Reid, Rasheem Biles, Kyle Louis and Co. deserve better than double-digit underdog status? Could QB Mason Heintschel become a hot commodity on the transfer market this offseason if he's able to lead an upset? And how do the Pitt linebackers match up with Jeremiyah Love and the Fighting Irish running game? It doesn't sound like Pat Narduzzi is taking this matchup against Notre Dame very seriously, saying he doesn't care if they lose the game by 100 points, as long as they win the final 2 (against Georgia Tech and Miami). Why does it feel like the fans care more than the head coach? Is Narduzzi just doing a bit here in his downplay of the Fighting Irish? The guys wondered how Pitt's season could be rattled if they do get killed by Notre Dame on Saturday. Poni is worried about Desmond Reid being held out if Pat doesn't see it as a big game. How are Pitt fans feeling going into the Notre Dame game? Is this the biggest game Pat Narduzzi has coached in Pittsburgh? Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk joined the show. Mike puts a low percentage on a Mike Tomlin trade because it would require Tomlin's want to do it, but also because the Steelers take such pride in only have 3 coaches in 50+ years. Mike said there will always be a team out there that is interested in having what the Steelers always have – being in playoff contention every year. Mike expects Tomlin to always have options, but doesn't think it would be half of the league bowing down to have his services. Are the Giants an attractive job with Jaxson Dart at QB? Mike doesn't sense any appetite in the Steelers to make a change. Jakobi Meyers is the only WR Mike heard the Steelers were in on at the deadline. Mike was confused by Tomlin saying it wasn't an ‘off night' for Aaron Rodgers, but not being concerned about his long-term performance. The guys caught Mike by surprise when they brought up the New York Post story regarding his wife and how the Steelers' wives/girlfriends have no proof of her existence. Mike said Asante Samuel Jr. was in-demand around the league and credited the Steelers for making a low-risk move.

It’s a Saturday edition of Indiana Sports Talk! Coach Bob Lovell kicks things off with Dr. Len Clark of Irish 101 who is battling both the elements at Notre Dame stadium along with his voice which is just about lost. Either way, his resilience and reliability shine through and the Fighting Irish have shown the same characteristics these last few weeks. How are they faring against the Navy Midshipmen? Then, Brian Jennings of the ISU football radio broadcast gives insight into the Sycamores 52-20 loss vs. Illinois State. While the passing game has been effective, the running game continues to be an issue. Jennings discusses where the Sycamores go from here. After the Indiana Hoosiers’ incredible win at Penn State this afternoon, John Herrick of the IU Radio network joins to recap it all. How did Indiana battle through injuries and, of course, Omar Cooper Jr.’s incredible game-winning catch. Quarterback Fernando Mendoza’s toughness shined on the final drive, and John takes us through what it was like to be in Happy Valley Saturday afternoon. -There are former Steelers asking why the team didn't make any moves at the trade deadline to better the team. One believes if the defense needed help, Mike Tomlin would have made sure an acquisition took place. If the Steelers added somebody like Jakobi Meyers, where would that put them in the AFC? Do we still think it was a mistake that they didn't do anything ahead of the deadline, outside of the Kyle Dugger move from over a week ago? The guys questioned whether or not the Steelers thinking about the draft was a smart move. How much say did Mike have in comparison to the owner and GM? – Pitt QB Mason Heintschel joined the show. Mason said his favorite football jersey is his Patrick Mahomes one from around 2018. He was a 3-sport athlete in high school, so the guys asked him about his HS exploits. Mason told the guys why he is a Tennessee Titans fan. He joked that the Titans upset playoff win over the Ravens a few years back was ‘one of the best days of his life.' Mason said baseball was a little bit too slow of a sport for him to get into. What was Mason's motivation getting into college football? Mason said scoring on the first drive in his first start really raised his confidence level. Mason watches a lot of Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert film. He added Drew Brees to that list. He talked about the role his parents have played in where he's at. Mason talked about the confidence instilled in him, but the fine line you have to walk. He said he's not much of a trash talker on the field, but Pitt has no shortage of that. The guys asked Mason about his chat with Jon Gruden that was published earlier in the week – saying Gruden may be at the Pitt-Notre Dame game next weekend. Mason said he is using the bye week to get a little bit ahead of Notre Dame even with the Panthers winning 5 straight games. Mason talked about the trip to Florida State, playing in front of a hostile crowd, and coming out of it with a win. Mason credited some high school classes for why he has no issue public speaking or doing a full-length interview. Did Mason have any relationship with Bruce Gradkowski, who was a Toledo football legend? – Former Pitt QB Pat Bostick joined the show. Pat talked to the guys about Mason Heintschel and how special of a young man he is. The guys talked about what has transpired at QB with Pitt in the last 12 months. Pat described Mason as a ‘football junkie' and said he was watching film when he was the third QB on the depth chart. What kind of pitch does Pitt have to put forth to make sure Mason is back next season in the NIL/transfer portal era of college football? What led to such love for Notre Dame and the Catholic contingent that roots on the Fighting Irish? The guys said Marcus Freeman is easier to like than just about any coach in ND history. Can Pitt stand up to the Irish next Saturday? What kind of resume is Pitt giving to the College Football Playoff committee?

Bill opened the show by reacting to the Colts trading for Sauce Gardner and explained why he doesn't think the move will ultimately work before discussing the biggest error he believes the College Football Playoff committee made in their initial batch of rankings. Start/Bench/Cut was next as Bill ranked the best dance moves and the greatest current champions in sports. Hour two started with David Samson joining the show to breakdown what the Dodgers repeating as World Series champions means for baseball moving forward. Buy or Sell was next as Bill answered if the Bengals made a mistake in not trading Trey Hendrickson at the trade deadline and if the Big Ten will have more teams in the College Football Playoff than the SEC. The show ended with Bill taking a call on Notre Dame's ranking and explained why the Fighting Irish will never join a conference.

Episode No. 8 of the Irish Illustrated Interviews podcast series features linebacker Jaylon Smith, a high school and collegiate Butkus Award winner, a two-time All-American at Notre Dame, and a 10-year NFL veteran. He played for the Fighting Irish from 2013 to 2015, leading Notre Dame in tackles and havoc plays in his final season as a junior, a campaign that ended with a trip to the Fiesta Bowl against Ohio State. Unfortunately, in the loss to the Buckeyes, Smith also suffered a devastating injury, tearing his ACL and LCL and enduring significant nerve damage. As a result, he fell from a projected top-five pick to an early second-round selection, with several teams unsure if he'd be able to play football again. Nevertheless, Smith preserved. After sitting out his rookie year with the Dallas Cowboys, he returned to the gridiron a season later and eventually became a Pro Bowler in the midst of a decade-long NFL career. Our conversation spans his entire playing career. Plus, we dive into how he overcame his injury and how he's currently investing in the South Bend community by opening JINYA Ramen Bar on Eddy Street, directly across from campus. In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") and intern India Otto are back in studio breaking down USC's 34-24 loss at Notre Dame, where the Fighting Irish pushed the Trojans around to the tune of 306 rushing yards. It was not an unexpected loss, but certainly disappointing following the positive showing against Michigan the week before. After that win, head coach Lincoln Riley said USC had a tough, physical football team, but just a week later in South Bend it looked like the Trojans reverted to the team from last year that just couldn't put anything together on the road. The crew gives their thoughts on what USC needs to do during the bye week to get things right and prepare for another long road trip to Nebraska. They discuss what Riley said after Tuesday's practice, what the players revealed in their media availability and what they think this loss means for the rest of the season. On their weekly Serving Up Pitt volleyball podcast, Post-Gazette Panthers insider Abby Schnable welcomes former standout Cat Flood to react to a busy weekend of action for the squad. What did we learn about coach Dan Fisher's team after it was able to rally from a steep deficit Friday night against Notre Dame? Does the win over No. 4 Louisville later in the weekend prove this team is still a national title contender? How valuable have Marina Pezelj and Mallorie Meyer proven to be as depth? And is Olivia Babcock the frontrunner for player of the year nationally after her big night against the Fighting Irish and Cardinals? Our duo tackles those questions and more. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino are back in a digital room together to break down USC's disappointing showing in a 34-23 loss to No. 13 Notre Dame in South Bend, extending the losing streak since 2011. Spratling spends his 'Two-Minute Drill' on him failing to see the Trojans win in South Bend and resigns to the fact that he may never get to see it. Trevino goes in another direction to discuss running into a Pop-Tarts Bowl rep on the sideline and making a fool out of himself. The Helium Boys dive into Stock Up, Stock Down, including Lincoln Riley's playcalling, the offensive line, the officials, kicker Ryon Sayeri, freshman wideout Tanook Hines and the mysterious "Ja'Kobi Dean." They also get a big update on the Stock Neutral debate. In the second half of the show, they take on some listener questions about offensive tackle Elijah Paige, the way Notre Dame defended Makai Lemon and USC's defensive game plan against the Fighting Irish. On this latest edition of Tunnel Vision USCFootball.com's Ryan Abraham, Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple-Double") intern Riley Sager are back in studio recapping the latest disappointing road game effort for the Trojans, getting pushed around on the line of scrimmage by the Fighting Irish in a 34-24 loss. Notre Dame ran for a ridiculous 306 including a record-setting 228 yards by ND tailback Jeremiyah Love, the most by a Fighting Irish player in the history of this series and the most ever by an ND player in Notre Dame Stadium. USC simply couldn't run the ball, gaining just 68 yards on the ground at a 2.3 yards per carry clip, and turned the ball over three times in the second half, dooming any chances of a comeback against the rival Irish. The crew gives their thoughts on some of the key storylines from the game, including the Notre Dame game plan to play a tight, physical contest all over the field and endure any pass interference calls that came along with it. The Trojans also failed to capitalize following any of the huge plays they generated, allowing the Irish to steal the momentum back almost immediately after the impressive opening touchdown drive, the Makai Lemon 42-yard reception and the Ja'Kobi Lane go ahead touchdown and two point conversion. Following the loss, USC once again fell out of the AP top-25 and once again will go into a bye week looking for answers to why the team played so poorly away from the friendly confines of the Coliseum. On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together talking about the Trojans failing to build off of their victory over Michigan, falling to Notre Dame 34-23 in South Bend. The Fighting Irish absolutely pushed USC around on the lines of scrimmage, rushing for over 300 yards and holding the Trojans to just 68 yards on the ground. In two of the last three games the Trojans lacked the necessary toughness to play Big Ten big boy football, with both failing performances occurring on the road. Coach Hyde talks how this Trojan football team regressed, bouncing back after that disappointing loss at Illinois with a tough, gritty victory over Michigan, only to revert to the finesse team once again Saturday night in South Bend. He goes into what he liked about how USC performed and what the biggest issues were that led to yet another road defeat. Greg Flammang of Irish Sports Daily reacts to last nights 34-24 victory for Marcus Freeman and his Fighting Irish against Lincoln Riley and USC. Notre Dame got huge performances from Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price, and a tremendous 4th quarter from the defense as they move to 5-2 on the season and in a good spot for a college football playoff berth.

They talk about “Curb Your Enthusiasm” celebrating its 25th anniversary, John Tesh being back with the NBA, and they wonder if Dodgers were just messing with us all season before flipping the switch in the postseason. Then Dan & the Danettes arrive in South Bend where Notre Dame HC Marcus Freeman and AD Pete Bavacqua drop the broadcast and talk Fighting Irish football. #CRShowSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this edition of the Peristyle Podcast hosts Ryan Abraham and Connor Morrissette (aka "Triple Double") are back to discuss the massive win over Michigan on Saturday night in the Coliseum and how the Trojans are looking to keep the momentum going in South Bend against Notre Dame. After being labeled as "soft" following the loss at Illinois, head coach Lincoln Riley used the bye week well, circling the wagons and getting his guys ready for a tough test against the Wolverines. By the end of the evening USC was unquestionable the tougher team, winning the battles at the line of scrimmage and resetting the expectations for the remainder of the season. The guys discuss what they liked from the Trojans victory over Michigan and how they were able to bounce back after that disappointing loss in Champaign. They also give an update on the dire injury situation with the top two running backs Waymond Jordan and Eli Sanders out and an offensive line that has been using a different lineup every week. There were also some national recognition for safety Bishop Fitzgerald following his two interception performance and walk-on running back King Miller who carried the load with 158 yards and a touchdown against Michigan. Miller has been special and he will likely get the first start of his career at Notre Dame. Ryan and Connor were both impressed with what USC was able to do Saturday night in the Coliseum against Michigan and both are looking for a similar effort in South Bend against the Fighting Irish. It is one thing to put it together at home, but it would mean a lot more if the Trojans could play well on the road against a ranked opponent. Shotgun Spratling and Chris Trevino return to the podcast medium to break down USC's massive win over then No. 15 Michigan at home in the Coliseum, giving Lincoln Riley his first signature win in the Big Ten era. Shotgun spends his 'Two-Minute Drill' talking about the impressive performance by USC's offensive line, which continues to play well even without two season opening starters. Chris uses his time to talk about the electric atmosphere in the Coliseum and praise Trojan fans for their impact on the game. They then dive into Stock Up, Stock Down, which include the defensive front, Lincoln Riley, kicker Ryon Sayeri and more. The duo also discusses injuries to the running back room and the play of walk-on running back King Miller, who finished with 158 yards and a touchdown, and the dramatic second-half appearance from Bryan Jackson. USC's top running backs Waymond Jordan Jr. and Eli Sanders were both carted off the field in the first half with injuries, leaving USC with zero healthy scholarship tailbacks. Sanders will miss the rest of the season while Jordan Jr. will be out four-to-six weeks with ankle surgery. The Helium Boys dive into the second half of the show to preview USC's big road rivalry matchup with No. 13 Notre Dame. This could be the final game in the rivalry for the near future as the two teams do not have a deal to play in place beyond 2025. USC sent an amended offer late this summer toward a multi-year extension, which is more in line what the Fighting Irish wanted, but there has been no acceptance.
