Law Enforcement Life Coach / Sometimes Heroes Need Help Podcast
I absolutely loved the conversation I had this week with Psychologist, and CEO and creator of the Tactical Longevity Training Program, Jenny Prohaska, PhD. Jenny has been helping individuals and agencies to do the hard work that it takes to change, shift, and improve culture. Asking tough questions, getting to the cause and not the symptom is what she does best. I thought the message she left us with was one of empowerment and hope and it starts with asking "why". http://tacticallongevity.com/https://www.linkedin.com/in/jenny-prohaska-phd-tacticallongevity/I work with the people everyone else turns to in a crisis. That means law enforcement, fire service, emergency medicine, trauma teams, and high-stakes leaders. And I help them stay durable under pressure. After years on the clinical front-lines treating trauma, brain injury, helping people adapt to life altering physical injury in both an academic hospital setting and in private practice, I saw firsthand what breaks people. I also saw what makes them come back stronger. That became the foundation of Tactical Longevity.Tactical Longevity is not therapy. It's applied psychological science engineered for high-stress, high-stakes environments. It's designed to build anti-fragile professionals who lead better, think clearer, and recover faster when the pressure is on. My background includes:- Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, University of Kansas- Former Assistant Clinical Professor, University of Kansas Hospital Systems- Fellowship-trained in neuro-rehabilitation, brain injury, and forensic assessment- National presenter for International Association of Chief's of Police, FBI National Academy Associates, National Tactical Officers Association, and others- Developer of over 24 peer support teams across the nation, with consultation on nearly 50- Force Science Certified with specialization in Officer-Involved Shootings, Critical Incidents, and high-impact occupational injuries- Culture and organizational psychology for tactical teamsToday, I train leaders and teams across public safety, trauma medicine, and high-risk industries, delivering performance systems that reduce failure, shorten recovery, and prevent long-term psychological degradation. If your role doesn't allow for failure, burnout, or extended breaks, we should talk.Thank you for taking the time to give this podcast a listen. Summary: In this episode of Trainers Bullpen, host Chris Butler speaks with Dr. Jennifer Prohaska from Tactical Longevity. Dr. Prohaska is a clinical psychologist specializing in law enforcement mental health. They discuss the concept of anti-fragility, the importance of resilience, and the six elements that contribute to developing an anti-fragile mindset. Dr. Prohaska emphasizes the need for proactive mental health strategies in law enforcement, focusing on self-awareness, self-regulation, mental flexibility, accurate thinking, values, and connection. The conversation also highlights the importance of ongoing training and support for officers and their families to foster a culture of wellness within agencies. This interview ought to get trainers and agency leaders thinking deeply about how to take officer wellness beyond well-meaning words and intentions into strategies that equip officers and supervisors with helpful and effective tools to build anti-fragility.Takeaways:• Anti-fragility is about thriving through adversity.• Resilience is bouncing back; anti-fragility is growing stronger.• Self-awareness is crucial for making better choices.• Mental flexibility allows for adaptability in stressful situations.• Curiosity over judgment fosters a better learning environment.• Connection with others significantly reduces PTSD risk.• Training should be ongoing, not a one-time event.• Values guide decision-making in challenging situations.• Proactive mental health strategies are essential in law enforcement.• Involving families in mental wellness is vital for overall support.
Maddie Prohaska was initially drawn to soccer to spend time with her friends but fell in love with the goalie position because it was, “weird, different, unique.” It also produced special moments where it was all on her. As her career evolved, so did her mindset from “nothing else matters, I will give up everything” to” I will strive to strike what's important for my physical and mental performance.” Not surprisingly, by thinking about things differently, she started to train differently using visualization, journaling, meditation and reframing her approach on the field. The results were record breaking. At University of Auburn, Maddie played over 96 matches with 36 shutouts! She was a 2022 Golden Glove Winner and 2023 Team Captain. In March 2025, she signed with Seattle Reign FC and in June 2025, she was selected to the Team USA U23 team. She shares that she didn't always believe she was capable but started to once she realized others did. By focusing on her feelings and identifying her values off the field, she is able to be where her feet are typically stopping a soccer ball and giving her team a chance to win! @m.proha

When avid outdoor adventurers Jaime Hackett and Erin Prohaska couldn't find a bug spray that actually worked and felt good on their skin, they decided to create their own. That's how Bite was born — a Toronto-based brand on a mission to make bug protection clean, non-toxic, and enjoyable to use.In this episode, the co-founders share the full story behind Bite's creation, from the personal frustrations that sparked their idea to the uphill climb of bringing a new kind of wellness product to market. We talk about what it takes to build a purpose-led brand in a highly regulated category, the red tape of Health Canada approvals, navigating a tough retail environment, and the steep learning curve of entrepreneurship in a product-based business. Jaime and Erin open up about the unexpected roadblocks, the grind of building something from the ground up, and the relentless belief that a better solution was possible. This is a conversation about the ups and downs of brand-building, and changing the way we think about the products we use every day — even bug spray. This season of our podcast is brought to you by TD Canada Women in Enterprise. Keep the Truth Tellers Around You with Dr. Jennifer Prohaska This isn't your typical feel-good chat about mental health. In this brutally honest and refreshingly grounded episode, Dr. Jennifer Prohaska cuts through the fluff with a clear message: we're focusing on the wrong end of the problem when it comes to wellness in public safety. Dr. Jen explains why organizational dysfunction, not trauma alone, is what's pushing people out the door—and why even the best therapy can't fix a toxic culture. If you're a tired patrol cop at 2 a.m. with earbuds in or a fire chief trying to get your people to stay, this one's for you. ABOUT DR. What a Story! At only 5 years old, as bullets rained down upon his childhood home, Big Steve Prohaska was forced to make a choice. Stay, and die at the hands of the Cali Cartel, or run, leave his fallen family behind, and survive. Steve chose survival. So marked the beginning of a journey that would take him from the dilapidated halls of a Colombian orphanage to the whitebred suburbs of Connecticut and, eventually, to the realization of the American dream.Told with remarkable honesty, From Orphan to Millionaire is the compelling autobiographical account of the many ups, downs, twists and turns that made Big Steve Prohaska into the successful businessman, entrepreneur, father and entertainment mogul he is today. Join Steve as he recounts the struggles he faced as a Colombian immigrant assimilating into American life. Experience first-hand his thrilling, dangerous lifestyle as he tells the story of his transition from strip club manager to nightclub owner, and the federal investigation that nearly cost him everything. And become inspired as he explains his changes in mindset over the years - from survivor, to hustler, to boss, to monster - that allowed him to traverse that difficult and unique path: From Orphan to Millionaire.
There's been (roughly) 100 episodes of the podcast. So when you hit on topics you haven't talked with anybody about before (IRAs, 401(k)s, faith-based organizations), you know you are in for something special. But I knew that already from his trenchant social media posts. In this episode, I talk with filmmaker Kyle Prohaska about perseverance, resilience, and becoming a jack of all trades in the filmmaking business. We talk about his start as a filmmaker and working in the faith-based sector; the problems with expensive short films that just have to make festivals; the lack of QC in indie filmmaking; and where you should expect to see Kyle in a couple of years. In the wake of the latest mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine and the typical media-fueled blame game that regularly follows, we are joined by our good friend and regular contributor, certified clinical psychologist, Dr. Jennifer Prohaska, to provide some line-level perspective on this topic. We attempt to dissect some of the reasons for the perceived repeated failures of the well-intended, yet often counterproductive and outdated legal, medical and political responses provided by many of the current constructs that exist to help prevent these types of on-going threats. Scott and Shaun talk with Clinical Psychologist and University of Kansas Jayhawk, Dr. Jennifer Prohaska (Ph.D) about a police officer resiliency program that she developed to better treat the high number of police officers that experience mental health related issues throughout their careers. The program, known as Tactical Longevity, is unique in that it helps to address the omnipresent mental health related issues facing law enforcement through the incorporation and training of important stakeholders in every police department. It's an ingenious concept that relies heavily on a program very familiar to most police officers, the field training process. The program is reflective of Dr. Prohaska's realism, humor and passion to help police officers and ultimately the communities that they serve. YouTube Video:https://youtu.be/mpfW-VL1C6g
