Pastor Greg continues our sermon series, "Follow: The Gospel of John," and with the story of the blind man receiving sight in John 9, he encourages us to humble ourselves before Jesus so that we can also see; to both receive and live out the truth.

In this message, Pastor Derek Holmes looks at Jesus' miraculous healing of the Blind Man at the Pool of Siloam. This man was healed by his faith to obey Christ's commands, and his view of Christ clarified from thinking Jesus was just a man to being the Son of God worthy of His worship. The Pharisees, however, chose to remain blind even though all the evidence of Christ was right in front of them.

Can our sin be the cause of an affliction we can't seem to get freed from? That's a question Jesus answers in John 9. Many people, just like in Jesus' day, saw sickness, affliction, and such trouble as being caused by sin, and the disciples asked Jesus about this with the man born blind. Jesus gives a clear answer for the question, and we also see the tremendous growth and change in a man who went from not knowing much about Jesus, to becoming timid and afraid to stand up for him but finishing with boldness in the face of adversity and a great receiver of the truth Jesus spoke.

Jesus claims that He is the light of the world, but what does that mean? How does that relate to a man who was born without ever being able to see light in the first place? Jesus gives light to both our physical and spiritual realities; if you have ever found yourself asking why things happen, God's Word has an answer for you. Come check out Week 3 of Jesus' Greatest Hits as we take a look at John 9 and Jesus' claims that He is God and that He is the light of the world. As always we'll see you next week, Thursday at 7pm!

Assumptions are the enemy of understanding and the enemy works them into our thinking better than we may have thought. As long as I hold onto assumptions that are false, I will be prevented from understanding the truth. We look at assumptions that were part of the disciples' questions and see how quickly Jesus dispels them.

At Community Church of Greenwood our mission is to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and live in full devotion to Him. We exist to make disciples who make other disciples by following Jesus, being changed by Jesus & being on mission for Jesus!
Who is Jesus? This is one of the most important questions that every person in the world must answer. Our eternity rests on our earthly response to Him. This Sunday we will look at a fascinating event in history from John 9 that clearly presents the identity of Jesus.

"As Jesus passed by, he saw a man blind from birth.... he spit on the ground and made mud with the saliva. Then he anointed the man's eyes with the mud and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means Sent). So he went and washed and came back seeing." John 9 v1, 6&7

Just as Jesus gave physical sight to the blind man, He offers spiritual sight to us all if we will trust Him as our Savior. Jesus is the light of the world and following Him gives us the light of life. Music by Gold City.
Everyone loves a good underdog story. From Cinderella to bobsled teams from Jamaica, we love to watch the "little-guy" make it big. Maybe it's not surprising that Jesus seemed to love a good underdog story too.
