Do your words reflect your relationship with Jesus? In Week 5 of Jesus + Nothing, Pastor Rich closes the series by teaching from Colossians 4 and reminding us that everything is spiritual, including the words we speak, text, post, pray, and use in difficult conversations. This message explores four ways our words can point people to Jesus: pray with your words because they connect you to God, engage with your words because they build bridges to outsiders, encourage with your words because they strengthen others, and honor with your words because they deepen relationships. Many of us are carrying burdens God never intended us to carry. We carry worry, fear, anxiety, guilt, and more. Prayer is God's invitation to transfer those burdens from our shoulders to His. The Bible says “Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you” (1 Peter 5:7 NLT). Prayer is not informing God of something He doesn't know. Prayer is inviting God into something we can't handle. Notes: Luke 18 As God’s child, you don’t need a badge to reach Him. Hebrews 10:19 (NLT)And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven's Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. Prayer is the Christian’s secret weapon. There is a right and a wrong way to pray. Prayer is God’s invitation to transfer those burdens He never intended for us to carry from our shoulders to His. God cares about your problem. 1Peter 5:7 (NKJV)Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Jehosaphat called the people together for prayer.2 Chronicles 20:12 God is bigger than your problem. 2 Chronicles 20:6 (NLT)“O LORD, God of our ancestors, you alone are the God who is in heaven. You are ruler of all the kingdoms of the earth. You are powerful and mighty; no one can stand against you!” Prayer is inviting God into something we can’t handle. God has His perfect timing. Read Luke 18:1–8 We need to be persistent in our prayer.Luke 18:1We all have a choice as to what we will do and to whom we will turn when a crisis hits. We can lose heart or we can pray. We should pray simply because Jesus told us to. We should pray because prayer is God’s appointed way for obtaining things. James 4:2You have not because you ask not. Luke 11:9Ask and it shall be given, seek and you shall find, knock and it will be opened to you. Prayer is the way God helps us to overcome our anxiety and worry. Philippians 4:6 (NLT)Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Philippians 4:7 (NLT)Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Worry is not a virtue but can actually be a sin. Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow; it empties today of its strength. The judge was the powerful one; the widow was the weaker one. Our loving Father in Heaven is the very opposite of this judge.Luke 18:7 The widowed woman had persistence and a just cause, and that was enough. We have something far greater, a Heavenly Father who already wants to help us. Every prayer is answered:Yes,No,Wait. Read Luke 18:9–14 We look on the outside, God looks on the inside.1 Samuel 16:7 The most religious man in the room went home empty, and the man nobody wanted to sit next to went home justified before God.Some will use prayer as an opportunity to:Brag.Gossip.Impress. Attitude is so very important in prayer. If we pray selfishly, it can hinder our prayers.James 4:2–3 An unforgiving attitude toward another can hinder our prayers.Matthew 6:15 We must confess our sin to God. How do we approach God?Like the widow, with persistence.Like the tax collector, with humility.Like little children. Read Luke 18:15–17 Luke 18:16Let the little children come to me The objective of every parent is to bring their children to Christ. God sees things differently than we do.The weak widow is strong because she prays with persistence. The sinful man’s prayer is heard because he admits his sin.The child is an example for us to follow in approaching God. To be childlike means we come with complete honesty to God. Children come with complete helplessness. We must come in complete dependence on God to be saved and forgiven. Children know how to receive a gift. Come like a child to Jesus right now. Worry is strangling you, guilt is crushing you, and fear won’t let you sleep. Jesus said, “Come unto me all who are burdened with life.” Come to Jesus as you are, a sinner, and become His child. What does it look like to honor Jesus in marriage, parenting, & work? In Week 4 of Jesus + Nothing, Pastor Rich teaches from Colossians 3:18-4:1, a passage that can feel uncomfortable in our culture. Rather than fast forwarding through difficult Scripture, this message invites us to ask what faithful obedience looks like in the roles God has given us. Rich walks through biblical submission, sacrificial love, parenting with a shepherd's heart, work as unto the Lord, and authority as stewardship under Christ. The message also makes an important pastoral distinction: Scripture is never permission for abuse, manipulation, or cruelty. In this message from Matthew 15:29–16:4, Pastor Karl examines two very different groups of people who come to Jesus — and what their approach reveals about how we receive grace. The first group comes from the Decapolis, a Gentile region with no religious standing or covenant claim. They bring broken bodies, unspoken needs, and nothing to offer — and Jesus meets them with compassion, healing, and even provision they didn't know to ask for. The second group, the Pharisees and Sadducees, arrives with suspicion and a demand for proof — and Jesus refuses to perform for them. The contrast surfaces a powerful truth: Jesus has endless compassion for those who come to him needy, but no obligation to satisfy those who come feeling entitled. Unworthiness isn't a disqualification for grace — it's the prerequisite for it.Pastor Karl unpacks why the disciples hesitated to feed the 4,000 (it wasn't that they forgot what Jesus could do — it was that they questioned who he'd do it for), what it really means to "fall from grace," and why the cross is the only reliable lens through which to interpret God's love. When we bring our "not enough" to Jesus, we find that inadequacy is exactly the raw material he's looking for.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 8:00am, 9:30am & 11:00am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

But what about the place we'll all go if we trust in Jesus—what do we bring on our trip to Heaven? Tune in now to see how we should be preparing for Heaven. The ten lepers were healed of the worst disease they ever could’ve contracted. All ten lepers were healed, but only one returned to Jesus to thank Him. When God answers our prayers, we need to come back and say, “Thank you, Lord, for what you did!” Gratitude is a spiritual discipline that keeps you oriented toward God, rather than toward what God gives you. 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18 (NLT)Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is the will of God. DescriptionWhat if purpose is not something waiting for you at the end of the journey, but something God wants you to discover in the middle of it?In this message, Pastor Johny wraps up the Ecclesiastes portion of our Chasing Purpose series by looking at what Solomon teaches us about life, mortality, wisdom, difficulty, and fulfillment.Ecclesiastes reminds us that life is temporary, that more will never truly satisfy, and that the things we chase apart from God will always leave us empty. But even in a world that feels uncertain, unfair, and difficult to understand, God is still present. He is with us in joy and in grief, in prosperity and in adversity, in the questions we can answer and the mysteries we cannot.Pastor Johny reminds us that difficulty can shape us, that we can trust God when life feels unfair, and that we do not need to fully understand the future in order to faithfully walk with God into it.Purpose is not just found at the finish line. Purpose is found in the midst. If this message encouraged you, share it with someone who needs a reminder that God sees them, loves them, and has purpose for their life right where they are.Make sure to like and subscribe to stay up to date with weekly messages from Venture Church.

How do you make Jesus your priority when life is full of competing voices, habits, desires, and distractions? Rich Greene continues the Jesus + Nothing series with a message from Colossians 3. Paul moves from belief to behavior: since we have been raised to new life with Christ, we set our hearts on things above, put to death what belongs to the old life, and put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, and love. This message will help you examine what your life is communicating. If someone looked at your calendar, finances, phone, family, friendships, and daily choices, would they see Jesus as your priority or something else? Notes: Luke 17 God gives us biblical principles to free us from our three enemies: the world, the flesh, and the devil. The freedom that the world offers is slavery. Read Luke 17:1–2 (NKJV) Your Influence Is Never Neutral. Matthew 12:30 (NKJV)"He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters abroad.”You cannot impress people and bless people at the same time. Parents, your greatest mission field is inside your own home. Deuteronomy 6:6–7 (NKJV)"And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. "You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.” Luke 17:2 (NLT)It would be better to be thrown into the sea with a millstone hung around your neck than to cause one of these little ones to fall into sin. 1 Corinthians 10:31–32 (NLT)So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. Don't give offense to Jews or Gentiles or the church of God. 1 Corinthians 10:33 (NLT)I, too, try to please everyone in everything I do. I don't just do what is best for me; I do what is best for others so that many may be saved. 1 Corinthians 11:1 (NLT)And you should imitate me, just as I imitate Christ. Repent!Turn from the shortcomings and follow God’s will. Ask God to forgive you and to strengthen you so you won't fail. Luke 17:3 (NKJV)Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him. Luke 17:4 (NKJV)And if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times in a day returns to you, saying, 'I repent,' you shall forgive him. Forgive As You’ve Been Forgiven. Proverbs 27:5–6 (NKJV)Open rebuke is betterThan love carefully concealed.Faithful are the wounds of a friend,But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful. Luke 6:37 (NKJV)Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. To forgive means to release someone from a debt. Luke 17:5 (NKJV)And the apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith." Luke 17:6 (NKJV)So the Lord said, "If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,' and it would obey you. The Right Faith We don’t need more faith; we need a deeper understanding of what faith in God can accomplish. Read Luke 17:7–10 (NKJV) It’s Not Always About You. Jesus is the central figure in all human history, in all of creation. Acts 20:22–23 (NLT)And now I am bound by the Spirit to go to Jerusalem. I don't know what awaits me, except that the Holy Spirit tells me in city after city that jail and suffering lie ahead. Acts 20:24 (NLT)But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God. How do you trust God when you are suffering and cannot make sense of what is happening? Pastor Rich continues the Jesus + Nothing series with a message from Colossians 1-2 on the mystery of Christ in us, the hope of glory. Paul writes about suffering while he himself is in prison, reminding us that struggle is not evidence that God has forgotten us. In Christ, suffering can become a place where we experience His presence, depend on His strength, reject counterfeits, and focus again on what is real. This message names the ways we often reach for substitutes when we are hurting: control, blame, escape, positive thinking, busyness, and trying harder. But Jesus is not a supplement to add to our lives. He is everything. “What happens one minute after you die?” Jesus answered it plainly in Luke 16. Listen in to today's message from Pastor Greg Laurie. Notes: Luke 16 Everyone will die and enter the afterlife.Ecclesiastes 3:1–2 Hebrews 9:27 (NKJV)And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment. What happens one minute after you die?If you are a Christian, you go to heaven. 2 Corinthians 5:8To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Philippians 1:23“I have a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.” What happens to the nonbeliever when they die? Most people do not think they will go to hell. Matthew 7:13 (NKJV)Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad [is] the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Matthew 7:14 (NKJV)Because narrow is the gate and difficult [is] the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. If we believe the Bible, most people today are not headed to heaven. The very word “hell” is so misused that people do not even understand its meaning. Jesus spent more time talking about hell than any other preacher. Jesus gives us three things we need to know about what hell is actually like. Read Luke 16:19–22 Jesus tells a true story about two men:one owning everything, yet possessing nothing, the other owning nothing and inheriting everything. We get a behind-the-scenes look at the eternal future of the nonbeliever. Read Luke 16:22–31 The sin of the rich man in Hell was not his wealth, but his heart. He was possessed by his possessions.Luke 16:19 Sin is pleasurable for a season, but then it brings death. The rich man was living the good life with no concern for anything or anyone but himself. The rich man was not ushered into Heaven like Lazarus. The rich man’s sin was disregard for the spiritual, revealed in his prideful flaunting of resources and his neglect of a starving, disabled man at his door. You can build an empire, fill every room with every award, and still arrive at eternity completely unprepared. People in Hell suffer. Nonbelievers don’t go to purgatory, soul sleep, or reincarnation. Nonbelievers go to Hell and eventually to the Lake of Fire. God invented Hell because He is a God of love and justice. Once you enter the afterlife, you cannot change your location. We decide in this life where we will spend the afterlife. There are no chances after death, but millions before. You cannot communicate from the other side. In the afterlife, you are conscious and fully aware of where you are. Just as there is memory in Heaven, there is also memory in hell.Luke 16:28 If you are born once, you will die twice. If you are born twice, you will die once. Often, Christians are reluctant to mention Hell out of fear that they might offend someone. To promise heaven and not warn of hell,to offer forgiveness without repentance,to preach the gospel without the cross, this is a false message giving false hope. If we really love people, we need to tell the truth about eternity. Jude 1:22Show mercy to those whose faith is wavering. Jude 1:23aRescue others by snatching them from the flames of judgment. Read Luke 19:29–31 Jesus did many miracles, and many did not believe. The gospel is a universal declaration that Hell is not God’s desire for anyone. The road to Hell is paved with excuses. God has a much better plan for you. It’s called Heaven! What happens one minute after you die?If you are a believer in Jesus, you go to Heaven. If you reject His offer, you send yourself to Hell. Pastor Jonathan Laurie breaks down the story of the prodigal son by spotlighting the older brother—the one who stayed, obeyed, and still missed the father’s heart. Notes Luke 15:11–32 (NKJV) Luke 15:11–24 The younger brother rejected the father, rebelled, and pursued pleasure. The son’s request would be unheard of in the first century. The father honors the son’s request. Jesus is painting a picture of a father who maintains his love and endures the agony despite being rejected. We can be like that, too. We want the gift but not the Giver of the gift. The prodigal son hit rock bottom. That’s when he came to himself. The father ran to the son and kissed him. The RobeThe Father tells his servants to bring out the best robe. The father covered the son with his own honor. We don’t clean our lives up and then come to God.He cleans our lives up when we come to Him. The RingThe son had the righteousness of the father, and a full restoration of identity and authority to make decisions and give directives. The SandalsThe father restored the son, saying you belong here, and you’re equipped for the road ahead. The FeastThis was the father’s way of publicly and directly addressing any rumors or questions about his son. Luke 15:23 (NKJV)“And bring the fatted calf here and kill it, and let us eat and be merry; Luke 15:24 (NKJV)“For this my son was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.” And they began to be merry. Read Luke 15:25–32 The father again demonstrates his love. He pursues both sons because both sons are lost. The Religious BrotherLuke 15:25–32 Jesus was holding up a mirror. Read Luke 15:1–2 (NKJV) The religious leaders that Jesus was speaking to looked down on the people Jesus came to redeem. Luke 19:10 (NLT)For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost. The two brothers are a picture of the two types of people in the audience, rebellious versus religious. The Redemptive BrotherRomans 8:29 (NKJV) Jesus is the third brother. He is the one who left heaven and came to earth to seek and to save the lost. Jesus took our rebellion; He took our religion and everything that stood between the Father and us and absorbed it on the cross. That’s the gospel. That’s what Jesus did for you.
