This is the second lesson in Dr. Camden Bucey's Reformed Academy course, Defending Our Hope: An Introduction to Christian Apologetics. How do we perceive reality accurately amidst competing perspectives? This lesson examines worldviews and explores how everyone—whether consciously or not—interprets life through fundamental beliefs. You will learn how Scripture, illuminated by the Holy Spirit, serves as a lens bringing spiritual clarity to metaphysics, epistemology, and ethics. Based on Colossians and the Reformed tradition, we compare the Christ-centered worldview with philosophical approaches grounded solely in human reasoning. This lesson enhances your understanding of worldviews, strengthens your ability to identify inconsistencies in contrary perspectives, and empowers you to articulate a gospel-centered understanding of reality with confidence. 01:30 Viewing the World through the Lens of Faith 03:04 Metaphysics, Epistemology, and Ethics 11:01 Worldviews in Contrast 21:25 The Pre-Eminence of Christ in Colossians 34:04 Seeing Clearly with Biblical Spectacles 37:12 Examples of Worldly Vision 39:48 Summary and Conclusion. In this week's episode of The Perceptive Photographer, I take some time to reflect on the people who shape us, the dual nature of photography, and the internal compass that guides our creative work. Episode 537 feels especially personal as I honor my mentor, Seth Thompson, and revisit the big questions that keep me engaged behind the camera. Seth isn't just someone who taught me how to see color—he teaches me how to think about it, how to push beyond the surface of an image, how to chase deeper meaning. Even now, his influence runs through everything I do. Mentorship, I realize, isn't just about gaining skills—it's about learning how to see and how to be as an artist. And at some point, it becomes our turn to pay it forward. I also talk about the duality of photography—how every image straddles the line between nonfiction and fiction. Yes, we capture real moments, but we also make choices that shape those moments: framing, color, tonality, sequencing. Black and white often abstracts; color anchors. What matters is recognizing what story we're telling—and why. This episode also circles around clarity—specifically, getting clear on the core themes in your work. I share a simple exercise I use to uncover those recurring threads—words or ideas that quietly (or loudly) show up again and again in the images I make. Knowing what drives you creatively doesn't limit you—it gives you direction when you need it most. There are a few exciting things on the horizon too. The Unseen Mystery Show opens July 8 at Image City Photography Gallery in Rochester, NY, featuring work from my meaningful image workshop group. I'm currently teaching a workshop in the Palouse, and 2026 dates are now set. Plus, I'm kicking off a new In Conversation series—bonus podcast episodes with fellow photographers about process, practice, and perspective. At the end of the episode, I touch on something I'll explore more soon: the question of audience. Who do we make our work for, and how does that shape what we create? It's not a simple answer, but it's one worth wrestling with. As always, thanks for listening—and for being part of this community. I hope this episode gives you something to think about as you continue making, reflecting, and growing in your own work. —Daniel

In John 9, Jesus heals a man born blind—and the ripple effect reveals much more than a miracle. This week's message explores how belief often begins with simple understanding, but always comes at a cost. As crowds doubt, leaders resist, and fear silences, one man boldly chooses to believe—and worship. What's keeping you from fully seeing Jesus for who He is?

In this powerful sermon, Pastor Roscoe shows how having a pure heart helps us see God more clearly in our everyday lives. Using Jesus' teachings from the Sermon on the Mount, he points out that real happiness and connection with God don't come from just following rules or looking good on the outside — it starts with what's going on inside our hearts. When our hearts are pure, we're able to recognize God working around us and experience a deeper sense of peace and joy.

Matthew 7:1–6 contains a well known teaching about hypocritical judging. Jesus presents us with a warning about harbouring an overly critical spirit towards others and challenges us to see the hypocrisy of doing so. Rather, we are to learn to see clearly so that we may be a help to our brothers and sisters in Christ. Only once we have learnt to see ourselves clearly will we be able to clearly discern between good and evil. We unpack this section in four steps: A warning (vv. 1–2) A challenge (vv. 3–4) Learning to see clearly (v. 5) Clearly discerning (v. 6)

As we go deeper on the spiritual path—whether through yoga, meditation, or self-inquiry—we often discover a paradox: We feel more peace… but we also feel more pain. The highs become transcendent. The lows, unbearable. We start to feel everything more intensely. This intensity is not a mistake. It is the heart of the path. The Buddha says: you have felt more grief than the ocean holds water. This isn't just poetry. It's a spiritual earthquake. This is not to depress us, but to awaken us—to stir our hearts. This stirring is known in Buddhism as saṁvega. This feeling—though unsettling—is a sacred catalyst. It's what Prince Siddhartha felt when he saw old age, sickness, and death. It's what every sincere practitioner eventually encounters: not just the suffering of the world, but the raw truth of our entanglement in it. You begin to see the pain in pleasure—how even joy is tinged with impermanence. You see the subtle violence of craving, the ache beneath distraction. Your old ways of coping no longer work. This is grace, not failure. Because only when we see duḥkha clearly, can we begin to walk a path beyond it. These are cracks in the illusion. And through those cracks, truth pours in. The practice is not to patch them up, but to stay open. Yoga gives us a container: Asana: to ground the body as emotion rises Prāṇāyāma: to stabilize the nervous system as old energy releases Meditation: to witness pain without collapsing into it Bhakti: to open the heart in devotion rather than despair And ultimately, viveka—discernment—so that we can feel the pain of the world without losing our place in it. John's managed to pick himself up after last Friday's show. Well to a certain degree at least - thank the lord. But the collective vibe scale is nudged handsomely towards ‘winning' as Elis has had one of his all time great days. Cycling? Check. Wales? Check. All time hero who laughs at every single one of his jokes? Check. So it's all the fun of the fair today. The topics of ‘banning pranks', ‘the greatest accents of the world' and ‘how to pad out an autobiography” float around the apple bobbing content tub, ready for the boys to sink their teeth into. And while you're here, check out the Bureau de Change of the Mind bonus episodes in the feed. Vipassana, also known as insight meditation, is training in bringing a clear, mindful attention to our moment-to-moment experience. We begin by relaxing through the body and then resting attention with the breath – or some other sensory anchor – and allowing the mind to settle. Then we open to whatever is predominant or calling our attention – sensations, emotions, sounds – meeting each arising experience with a clear, kind attention. The gift of this process is discovering balance in the midst of the changing flow, and gaining deep insight into the nature of reality.
I'm finding that right now, practice can be challenging. It's hard to get up an hour early in the dark. But that's often the case. The bigger challenge right now is not the early dark mornings. It's the lack of clarity that arises when anger, impatience, and fear take over my sit, or my day. That's why right now, I'm understanding a little bit betterthe wisdom of all the great teachers, who counsel us to befriend these difficult states of mind.I'm noticing that befriending anger helps me to occasionally, see the pain underneath;that making friends with impatience helps me tosometimes, remember to take a breath;and that letting fear be a beloved companion points to one day, possibly, with plenty of practice, letting it go.

The correlation between the function of the gallbladder and liver and its effect on eyesight is explored in this podcast episode. The liver and gallbladder play a crucial role in the production of bile, which helps with fat metabolism and the transportation of estrogens. The eyes are heavily dependent on porphyrins, which are produced in the liver and bone marrow. Poor eyesight can be caused by staying up too late, having excess infections in the liver and gallbladder, and not consuming the proper nutrients for eye health. Structural issues in the upper neck can also affect eyesight. Emotional factors such as resentment, anger, and frustration can impact the liver and gallbladder and subsequently affect eyesight. The podcast provides recommendations for improving eyesight, including taking specific nutrients, cleansing the liver and gallbladder, and addressing emotional traumas.
