In today's message, Pastor Marc Sharp continues the new series that is an epic journey through the New Testament Gospel of Mark, verse by verse. The book of Mark was most likely the first one written, and is generally attibuted to John Mark, a close associate of Peter, and also of Paul and Barnabas. The Gospel of Mark is all about Jesus and starts at the beginning of his ministry with his baptism by John the Baptist, a somewhat controversial act for Jewish people. Disciples of Jesus must follow the example of Jesus.
God is our Father in heaven and he loves us so dearly. It is a love so deep that we can not fully grasp how much is His love for His creation. God gave His only Son for our salvation from sin. God is love and He is actually pleased with us, and especially those of us who believe that Jesus Christ is His Son. We will get to live in heaven with God after we leave this world. God does test us from time to time. A good father discplines his children from time to time as they need it. But even in times of testing, God takes care of us. He sends his angels to watch over us and care for us.

When we keep in step with the Holy Spirit it will show up in how we speak, how we treat others and the choices we make. We see that walking with the Spirit is a dynamic practice. We have also seen that regular repentance and confession is necessary to keep in step with the Spirit.

Some people seem compelled to stand up for the Gospel and are driven to make changes in the world. Many such characters are described in the Biblical narrative and some we can identify throughout history. Interestingly, it is us who are called to be driven this same way in bringing forth God's Kingdom here on earth.

We can overcome temptation by removing our focus from the temptation that promises but does not deliver and focus rather on God and His superior promises that provide a better future and a deeper satisfaction.
