Fr. Steve asks the why--why was Jesus Baptized in the Jordan...why was He even Baptized to begin with?
Why was Jesus baptized? According to him, it was to fulfill righteousness, but what does that mean? Jesus wasn't a sinner who needed to repent. He was perfect. We'll explain the answer in this message of Matthew 3.
Send us a textJohn the Baptist was baptizing people for repentance of their sins. Jesus shows up and He wants to be baptized by John. But wait! He has no sin, He is sinless. So why this baptism?Jesus is going to enter the ministry and this is His ordination service. It is also the beginning of the spiritual battle He is going to wage with the devil.Listen carefully to really understand the role of John.

Friends, the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord is exceptionally important. All four Gospels talk about it, and John the Baptist is a kind of door we have to go through to understand Jesus properly. What was John the Baptist doing in the desert? Why did the Messiah, the Lord, go to him for a baptism of repentance? And why do we still spend time with this strange, puzzling, and even embarrassing event?

Today's Topics: 1, 2, 3, 4) Gospel - Mk 8:11-13 - The Pharisees came forward and began to argue with Jesus, seeking from Him a sign from heaven to test Him. He sighed from the depth of his spirit and said, "Why does this generation seek a sign? Amen, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation." Then He left them, got into the boat again, and went off to the other shore. Join Julia Jeffress Sadler as she takes us on an incredible adventure in Episode 147. John the Baptist lives a simple life in the wilderness, preaching repentance and baptizing those who seek to turn towards God. When Jesus arrives, John baptizes Him, and the Holy Spirit descends upon Jesus, with God expressing His pride in His Son. Afterward, Jesus, led by the Spirit, spends 40 days fasting in the wilderness, where He is tempted by the Devil. Despite being offered worldly power and challenged to test God's protection, Jesus remains steadfast, rebuking Satan with scripture and devotion to God alone. Angels then come to care for Jesus. The Holy Spirit led Mark to capture and share in vivid detail a remarkable event-the Baptism of Jesus. Now, it makes sense that everyone else was at the Jordan River that day, to repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of their sins. However, as the sinless Son of God, Jesus had no sins to be washed away. So, why did He step down into the water this day? Episode artwork by Jan van't Hoff and licensed to FreeBibleImages.com. Sermon on Genesis 1:1-5 from Sunday, January 7th
The Timing of the Second Passover Dr. Richard Ruhling We've had discussions this year about the “Seven Seals” and things that needed to happen at the time of Passover, etc. Discussion of Haggai 2 and Daniel 9… “As the Days of Noah” and depictions of the “10th day of the 5th month” on the Jewish calendar would equate to August 5th of 2023. And Noah was instructed to get “into the Ark” one week earlier. So we could be looking for a sign the last week of July. Catholic Church was the “little horn” that grew out of the “ram.” Well, help me welcome back to the program, Dr. Richard Ruhling. Dr. Ruhling, it is good to have you back on the program today. Amos 3:7-8 “God will not reveal anything without revealing it first.” Ruhling7@yahoo.com Could this be a repeat of Exodus Chapter Twelve where “Day follows Night” (which goes all the way back to Genesis? What we are seeing now is called “The Night of the Lord.” Which means the “Day of the Lord” must appear next! The “time is fulfilled” from Daniel 9 (70 weeks)… The First Coming was timed exactly up to the point of Jesus Baptized by John in the Jordan River. The Jubilee event in 457 BC and Jesus was Baptized exactly on time, 490 years later. We look at the 50th year as the Year of Jubilee – but the 50th year is actually “year #1” of the next set of 490 year sequence. How does all of this tie into what we are seeing right now in Israel? Daniel 8 refers to the Ram with two horns. The little horn was Iraq and the big horn is coming – which points to Iran. Muslims recognize Ismael as being “sparred” by a sacrifice of a ram (not Isaac). But in Daniel, we see the ram being defeated by Israel. What do you see coming next? Continuing attacks on US facilities in Iraq and Syria When all the Muslim nations surround Jerusalem (celebrating “Allah has no son”) Why did you initially think these would happen in 2023? Numbers 9:10-11 - allows for Passover one month later to allow funeral for loved ones. At the end of the “10 Virgins Parable” – Jesus said you will not know the day or hour… but the Biblical year does not go from January to December, but from Spring to Spring. In addition, this refers to the “2nd Passover” which is allowed if you are “travelling” and not in Jerusalem for the 1stPassover of the year. The “2nd Passover” is then held one month later. The DARK DAY – on May 19, 1780 – occurred and was believed it was a sign of the “Day of the Lord.” It was repeated 200 years later when Mt. St. Helen's erupted on May 19, 1980 and a volcanic ash cloud covered much of the Northwest USA. The 10th Day (that Noah entered the Ark) corresponds to next May 19 – in 2024 - to the DAY. So “SOMETHING” is going to happen on that day! There will be an attack on Jerusalem, a dark day will occur… It could be Iran entering Jerusalem; it could be an EMP attack – but “something” is going to happen on...

Today, we celebrate believers' baptism. We see from scripture that baptism doesn't save us, its purely a symbol of the change that has already happened in the heart of a believer. An outward public declaration that through Jesus' saving work, you know have spiritual life as His follower. But even though it's a symbol, we cannot be indifferent to baptism, we should follow Jesus in this proclamation. We proclaim that we are taking hold of salvation by letting go of our former life. We realize that we are no longer slaves to sin but are free in Jesus. And we are telling the world that our faith in Jesus has changed us. We'd love to answer any questions you've got about Jesus and believers' baptism, so reach out today. You can always take the next step and sign up to partake in believers' baptism by visiting burnthickory.com/baptism.

If you are a Christian, then you probably have been baptized at the beginning of your Christian walk. This being the first step in obedience to Christ, is an important step as it shows not only our loyalty to Jesus, but also symbolizes us being burried with Christ and raised into newness of life with Him. So that brings us to our question today, we see why baptism is important for us, but why was Jesus Baptized? In this week's episode of Real Talk Christian Podcast, Marc Hyde and Chris Fuller take a closer look at these passages from the Gospels, looking also into the culture of the time, and dive into the reasons that Jesus allowed Himself to be baptized and what it means. He was a doctor - a scientist trained to do meticulous research in pursuit of the truth. He was also an educated Gentile who became the only non-Jewish author of the Bible. And in the middle of the first century AD, this man devoted his life to answering one question: Can Christianity be trusted? His name was Luke, and after years of researching the extraordinary claims being made by a small, highly motivated sect called The Way, he became an unlikely disciple of Jesus. How could a reasonable scientist come to believe that a 1st Century Jewish rabbi who was executed by the Romans is the living Son of God? We'll explore this question and more at The Story Church during this 20-week series as we follow Luke's logic from the Christmas manger to Easter's empty tomb. Come find out why Luke, along with countless other intellectuals, have had no problem believing in Jesus without setting their rational minds aside.
