Luke 4:1-13 Jesus was tempted in every way that we are, yet without sin. Where humanity failed ... where we fail, He succeeded. To endure temptation, we must look to the One who suffered and endured. We too can endure as we trust Him, learn from Him, and receive His help.

Luke 4:1-13Jesus faces three temptations from the devil, who tries to get him to question God's provision, plans, and protection. Jesus stands firm, quotes scripture, is filled with the Spirit and seeks the Father in prayer.

Step into Matthew 4:1–11 as we explore Jesus' powerful battle in the wilderness. Led by the Holy Spirit, weakened from fasting, and confronted by Satan himself, Jesus shows us what it truly means to stand firm in faith. This message uncovers not only the nature of temptation but also how God equips us to overcome it. In this teaching, we look at each of the three temptations Jesus faced:

Ian's teaching this week on Mark 1:9-13, on the beginning of Jesus' ministry. Jesus' baptism was an example for his followers, and how he can relate to us in temptation through his time in the wilderness.

In our exploration of overcoming temptation, we delve into the powerful example set by Jesus during His 40-day trial in the wilderness. This pivotal moment, found in Mark 1:12-13 and expanded in Luke 4, reveals the universal nature of temptation and the divine strategy to conquer it. We learn that temptation can strike anyone, anywhere, and through anything - even good things perverted. The three-pronged attack of the enemy - lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and pride of life - is countered by Jesus' unwavering reliance on Scripture. This teaches us the vital importance of arming ourselves with God's Word, being filled with the Holy Spirit, and maintaining a steadfast focus on our relationship with God. The purpose of the leading of the Spirit – “to be tempted by the devil.” 2. The importance of these temptations.    a. To show Jesus' character as the Son of God, Messianic King, Suffering Servant.    b. To show that Jesus is qualified to be our sinless Substitute. c. To show that Jesus is our sympathetic high priest.   B. CHRIST AS THE NEW ISRAEL. 1. See Mt. 2:15 where the “Son” in Hos. 11:1 refers to Israel (Ex. 4:22) but Matthew applies it as being fulfilled in Jesus. 2.  The Holy Spirit and the cloud that led Israel in the wilderness.  Isa. 63:11; Neh. 9:20; Rom. 8:14. 3.  Israel's wilderness experiences parallels Jesus'.  Deut. 8:2  4.
