Jesus was steadfastly obedient to his Father so that he could be the perfect and sinless sacrifice for sin.

Jesus' Temptation in the Wilderness in Matthew 4:1-11 gives us a peek at Satan's playbook. Satan allures us with the desires of the flesh (I want to FEEL that), the desires of the eyes (I want to HAVE that), and the pride of life (I want to be KNOWN for that). This is how Satan tempted Jesus, and this is how the enemy attacks us. We respond by running to the cross in faith, knowing we belong to Jesus.
Matthew 4:1-11In today's episode we discuss the character of the devil (the satan). We consider the personhood of this creature in distinction from humanity. We then offers some suggestions on practices that can be exercised in connection with this passage. Lastly, we talk about the Camden congregation services that begin this Sunday evening.
“Good Different: The Temptation of Jesus”
Luke 4:1-13 Jesus was tempted in every way that we are, yet without sin. Where humanity failed ... where we fail, He succeeded. To endure temptation, we must look to the One who suffered and endured. We too can endure as we trust Him, learn from Him, and receive His help.
Luke 4:1-13Jesus faces three temptations from the devil, who tries to get him to question God's provision, plans, and protection. Jesus stands firm, quotes scripture, is filled with the Spirit and seeks the Father in prayer.
Step into Matthew 4:1–11 as we explore Jesus' powerful battle in the wilderness. Led by the Holy Spirit, weakened from fasting, and confronted by Satan himself, Jesus shows us what it truly means to stand firm in faith. This message uncovers not only the nature of temptation but also how God equips us to overcome it. In this teaching, we look at each of the three temptations Jesus faced:
Sunday sermons from Chewelah Evangelical Free Church
Jesus is prepared for ministry by victory over the devil.
What if the greatest spiritual battles you face aren't happening around you—but inside your mind? Right after His baptism, Jesus is led into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil—revealing a truth many of us learn the hard way: our deepest valleys often come on the heels of our highest spiritual moments. In Episode 3 of Heaven to Earth, we walk through Matthew 4 and uncover how the enemy works, why temptation doesn't disappear as you grow in Christ, and how Satan's primary strategy has always been the same—attacking your identity with lies. Through Scripture, Jesus shows us how to stand firm, renew our minds, and fight back with truth by declaring, “It is written.” What lies have you been believing—and what would change if you stood on God's truth instead of the whispers?
In Matthew 4:1–11, Jesus stands firm against Satan's temptations by responding with God's Word. This 2 Minute Disciple devotional encourages us to hide Scripture in our hearts so we can stand strong in moments of testing.
In Mark 1:11–13, Jesus is affirmed by God's voice and then led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where He is tempted by Satan for forty days. This 2 Minute Discipledevotional reflects on His victory over temptation and how we can stand firm in ours.
