For this week's Edition, William Moore is joined by the Spectator's political editor Tim Shipman, the drinks writer Henry Jeffreys and the founder and chair of iNHouse Communications – and former director of communications for Theresa May – Katie Perrior. This week: another year, another prime ministerial resignation – it's all becoming a little too common in British politics. The guests give their views on Starmer's downfall and look ahead to the inevitable Andy Burnham premiership, from his policy agenda to who's in – and who's out – when it comes to the Cabinet and all-important role of Chancellor. Facing criticism that he lacks a mandate, not to mention how recently he was elected to Parliament, should he call for a general election? Burnham may be influenced from Gordon Brown's failure to call one in 2007 but, as Katie warns, snap elections don't always go your way – just ask Theresa May. And do you agree with Tim characterising Burnham as Labour's first female leader. Also: from Burnham's black t-shirt to Theresa May's kitten heels, does it matter how politicians dress? Henry makes his argument that people should always strive to dress well and why – from charity shops to the app Vinted – it's never been easier to do so.Plus: as the country bakes, what's the best booze to drink to cool off?Produced by Patrick Gibbons. We're back with a completely reworked and expanded 2026 version of one of our most requested redo episodes: Alexandra Feodorovna, the last empress of Russia. Originally covered way back in 2018, we realized there was so much more to unpack about the woman who would become the tragic final tsarina of Imperial Russia. So this time, we're slowing down, diving deeper, and fully embracing the gaudy, dramatic chaos of the Romanov court. In part one, we explore Alexandra's early life as Princess Alix of Hesse, Queen Victoria's favorite granddaughter, whose happy childhood was shattered by tragedy, illness, and loss. We talk about the spread of hemophilia through Europe's royal families, Alexandra's intense religious beliefs, and the deeply romantic (and deeply codependent) love story between Alix and the future Tsar Nicholas II. From doomed romance to catastrophic public relations disasters, this is the beginning of the end for the Romanovs. Timestamps: 00:00 Return to Imperial Russia & Alexandra Feodorovna Redo02:39 The Revised “Rasputin” Cocktail Recipe03:40 Alexandra Feodorovna's Birth, Family & Triple Gemini Chaos05:24 Queen Victoria, Royal Upbringing & Life in Hesse10:12 Hemophilia in Europe's Royal Families Explained16:22 Alexandra's Religion & the Divine Right of Kings21:42 Alexandra Feodorovna's First Trip to Russia22:22 Young Nicholas II Meets Alexandra for the First Time27:14 Nicholas and Alexandra's Romantic Letters & Courtship34:26 Nicholas II Proposes & Alexandra's Religion Crisis38:03 Alexandra Arrives in Russia as the Tsar Dies45:40 Alexandra Feodorovna's First Impressions at Court47:35 Nicholas II's Coronation & the Khodynka Field Disaster53:06 “She Came to Russia Behind a Coffin” — Bad Omens Begin Sources: Queens of Misfortune The History Chicks Ambivalent Offenders Check out our Dagmar of Denmark series Queens podcast is part of Airwave Media podcast network. Along with celebrating the baptisms of Oscar and Lucy, we will celebrate the Feast of the Ascension of Our Lord. In the creed, we confess that Jesus ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. What does it mean that Jesus “ascended into heaven”? Where and what is heaven? Where did he go? And what does it mean that he “sat down at the right hand of the Father?” Was he tired? Does God the Father even have hands? The answers to these child-like but excellent questions turn out to have huge ramifications for our faith and life in Jesus. Come and see!
The sermon presents the ascension of Jesus Christ not as a departure but as his coronation as the triumphant, conquering King who has defeated Satan through his incarnation, life, death, and resurrection. Centered on Scripture from Hebrews, 1 Peter, and Revelation, it portrays Christ as the divine warrior—Joshua—fulfilling God's redemptive mission by reclaiming humanity from the enemy's dominion, defeating sin and death through his sacrifice, and ascending to sit at the right hand of God with all spiritual powers subject to him. The ascension is depicted as the climax of Christ's victory, where he triumphs over evil, disarms demonic authorities, and establishes his eternal reign, empowering believers through the Holy Spirit to live as citizens of heaven, engaged in spiritual warfare against fear, anxiety, and temptation. The message calls Christians to live in the reality of Christ's present victory, setting their minds on heavenly things, bearing witness to his lordship, and anticipating his glorious return as the King who will ultimately restore all things.

A complete Sunday Rosary experience — the Glorious Mysteries with both a beautiful Morning Prayer and a closing Evening Prayer, both drawn from today's Gospel. This special daily rosary is spoken in a calm male voice with no background ambient music. Whether you pray it in the morning or listen along in the evening, it's designed to carry you through the entire day in peace and faith. Morning Prayer – Remain in Christ "O Jesus, true vine and our life, as this morning dawns and I prepare to pray the Rosary, I seek to follow Your gospel. You tell us You are the vine and we are the branches. Remain in me as I remain in You. Help me stay united with You throughout the day. Cut away any branches of sin of selfishness that stop me from producing fruit. Because of Your word I am already pruned. Let me bear much fruit in kindness, patience, and good works today. As Mary leads me in the Rosary mysteries, draw me closer to Your heart. May I ask for what pleases You and glorify the Father as Your disciple. Amen." Evening Prayer – Bear Much Fruit "O Jesus, true vine and our life, as evening comes and I have prayed the Rosary, I thank You for guiding me today. You remind us we must remain in You to bear fruit and without You we can do nothing. Looking back, I see where I stayed connected as a branch to the vine and where I did not. For the fruit produced in my words and deeds, I give You praise. Prune any part of me that failed. Let Your words remain in my heart tonight. As Your disciple, I ask that my rest renew me. With the help of Mary, strengthen my resolve to abide in You always and glorify Your Father. Amen." The Glorious Mysteries celebrate the Resurrection and its power — Christ's Ascension, Pentecost, the Assumption of Mary, and her Coronation as Queen of Heaven. Praying them today helps us grow in faith, hope, and trust in God's promises. Join the Communion of Saints as we pray together in spiritual solidarity with the universal Church and the saints throughout history.
