Chapter 6 of the Gospel of Mark. Preached by Dave at Ngaruawahia on 29/06/25.
The Chosen has become an international sensation. It's available in more than 50 different languages, in countries all around the world. And whether you know what it's about or not, doesn't the title alone pique your interest? I mean, don't we all want to be chosen? Humans are wired for belonging. We're designed for community. We all want to be desired, known, and loved... to be chosen. We are about a quarter of the way through our summer study, Upside Down Kingdom: The Gospel According to Mark. This week, we find Jesus picking teammates to be part of His inner circle. Except, He doesn't exactly pick the cream of the crop. Instead, it seems more like He's scraping the bottom of the barrel! Jesus chooses the rejected, the outcast, the traitor, and the skeptic. He surrounds Himself with those who have been passed over or left out - the ones who didn't quite measure up. And He invites them to belong. In doing so, He establishes a new kind of family - one where the misfits and marginalized can find a home. And so can you. I invite you to join us this Sunday at 11 AM. You'll find us online by clicking the "Join Us Sunday" button on our website or connect with us via our YouTube channel. Or, better yet, come worship with us in person! Enjoy coffee, cookies and conversation with friends, old or new, in the Lobby before the service. We would love to get to know you. We do know that 11 AM on Sunday doesn't work for everyone. If that's you, the service will be available on-demand, so you can watch at a time that works better for your schedule. Come... join our Dayspring family. We look forward to seeing you this Sunday! ----------------------------------- TAKE YOUR NEXT STEP ----------------------------------- Let us know that you were watching with us and you will be entered to receive a free prize by completing our Connection Card: http://dsf.church/ecard Give Online: https://www.simplechurchgiving.net/App/Giving/dsf Message Notes: https://www.dayspringfellowship.com/messages Like, comment & subscribe to stay updated! Do you remember life before cell phones? Or email or the internet? Did you ever use traveler's checks or money orders? How about cameras? Kodak Brownie? Instamatic? Polaroid? 35mm? Change is inevitable. And often, it's beneficial! Yet many, if not most of us resist change, even when what's new is better than the old. Change is uncomfortable. In fact, if doing something new or trying a new way doesn't feel awkward at first, you're probably not doing it right! Often, change feels like a loss. We like what we know, even if it's not working very well. As we pick up our study in Mark's gospel this week, we find Jesus continuing to ruffle the feathers of the religious leaders. Jesus' way of doing things breaks all the rules of their religious game. And they are not happy about it. The old ways are just fine, thank you very much. There's no need to change things... or is there? ----------------------------------- TAKE YOUR NEXT STEP ----------------------------------- Let us know that you were watching with us and you will be entered to receive a free prize by completing our Connection Card: http://dsf.church/ecard Give Online: https://www.simplechurchgiving.net/App/Giving/dsf Message Notes: https://www.dayspringfellowship.com/messages Like, comment & subscribe to stay updated! Everyone knows... Humpty Dumpty had a problem. He was broken beyond repair. Scrambled beyond saving. Not even the most capable of men could put the pieces back together and restore him to wholeness. As we come to our study in Mark's gospel this week, we find Jesus engaging with the broken in His world. And the good news for them, and for us, is that He is more than capable of bringing healing and restoring wholeness to the sick, broken, and wounded places of our lives. Nothing is beyond His ability to unscramble. Summertime is made for adventure. And adventure comes in a myriad of flavors. Perhaps you like your adventures Disney-flavored. Or maybe you prefer outdoorsy adventures... camping, water skiing, or hiking in the mountains. Perhaps beach vibes are more your style. The feel of sand between your toes, playing tag with the ocean, and the salty breeze on your skin. As the school year comes to a close, we're standing on the cusp of a new season and there are adventures to be had! As a church family, we begin a new adventure through the Gospel of Mark this Sunday. This summer series which we've entitled Upside Down Kingdom, will take us on an exploration of Jesus' ministry through Mark's gospel. Mark uses the word "immediately" more than 40 times in this shortest of the four gospels. His writing is fast-paced and action-packed. So strap in and hold on! I invite you to join us this Sunday at 11 AM. You'll find us online by clicking the "Join Us Sunday" button on our website or connect with us via our YouTube channel.
