Sunday, January 9, 2022 – The title of the message today is “False Prophets – False gods” and we’re in Matthew 7:15-20. The danger of false prophets is an age-old concern, and today it's even more exacerbated by all the falsehoods that we are all aware of. Biblically speaking, false prophets are either speaking falsely of God and His Holy Word or they are speaking messages of “false-gods”. In the day that Jesus was speaking this, the false prophets and the false gods were very well known. Today, we may be aware of false prophets but not thinking too much about “false-gods”. And that’s what we’re focusing on today. If we don’t have an appreciation of what the “false-gods” are of our society and possibly even in our own lives, then the discussion of false prophets isn’t nearly as meaningful. As you listen to this, you may wonder why some things that are good and morally neutral are put on the list of a “false-god”, but I encourage you to stay focused on this. Anything that takes the place of God in our life, anything that we trust in other than God is considered a “false-god”. Be blessed as you worship and study along with us…

"Turn your attention to making decisions about whether people offering God's perspective are telling the truth." Jesus' longest recorded sermon, and most influential, is traditionally called The Sermon the Mount. The sermon is full of famous proclamations, phrases that are often memorized or hung on walls. But why are these words important 2,000 years later? This series of sermons is about The Sermon on the Mount and why it still matters. Impacted? A good tree cannot bear bad fruits, nor can a bad tree bear good fruits.
A good tree cannot bear bad fruits, nor can a bad tree bear good fruits.
Jesus’ message in our text is straightforward. A tree is known by its fruit. If we see an apple on the tree, we know that we are looking at an apple tree. The apple tree does not have to announce that it is an apple tree, the fact that it produces apples says all that we need to hear. People walk around, proclaiming that they are various things, but when we look at their life, we see something different. Some people say that they are nice, but their life does not display nice. Other people say that they are compassionate, but we cannot see that when we look at what they produce. Many claim to have the fruit of the spirit in their life, but the fruit they produce is anything but the Spirit of God. Our life should be a testament to what we claim to be. If we claim to be a child of God, observers should be able to see that in our life. The apple tree does not have to tell us that it is an apple tree. The fruit speaks for itself. What is our fruit saying about us?

Together we are going to discover how Jesus flipped teachings of the Old Testament upside down. He reimagines and reinterprets these teachings in order to introduce people to what He called the “New Kingdom,” the “Kingdom of Heaven.” This one sermon summarizes all the ways Jesus wants us to live out kingdom values right here on earth. Believers in Jesus are put here on this earth to do what He would do if He were physically here. Let’s all buckle up and get ready to have our lives turned upside down!

Jesus tells us to “Beware” of false teachers and their false teaching. The word “beware” tells us to sit up and pay attention to what Jesus is saying because it’s important. The word “beware” indicates there is danger present which will bring much harm to us if we aren’t careful. What's the danger and what's the harm of false teachers? Jesus explains.

In this second illustration at the close of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus speaks of two trees that produce fruit. Are there those that claim to be on the narrow path? You will know by the fruit of their lives. You will know them by their fruit!
Jesus said to "Beware of false prophets." Do you know how to spot a false teacher? Do you know what to be wary of?
As Christians, we need to make sure that what people hear from us is really from God’s word and not our own thoughts, feelings or opinions. How did Jesus deal with others when confronted about what God’s will is?

Jesus warns believers to watch out for false prophets. He calls them wolves in sheep's clothing. He said you can recognize them by their fruits. Here are some ways to recognize false teaching and prophets.
