In this message from 2 Timothy 2:14–26, “Stand Up and Stay Focused,” we are reminded that courage isn’t just about bold moments but about keeping our eyes fixed on what matters most. Paul warns against wasting energy in pointless quarrels, false teaching, and youthful passions, and instead calls believers to build their lives on God’s firm foundation, pursue righteousness with His people, and serve others with gentleness and grace. This sermon challenges us to stand up with courage by staying focused on God’s Word and God’s mission.
This week we continue our journey through the Letter of Colossians unpacking Paul's warning to beware of false teachings.

Our Scripture study this week comes from Titus 1:10-16. The Apostle Paul sent young Titus to shape up or ship out the nonsense going on in Crete. False teachers were twisting God's Word for personal gain. Paul calls for such voices to be silenced. These false teachers may claim to know God, but their actions show otherwise. They are corrupt and unfit for doing good. As the church, we are called to remain grounded in the pure gospel.Series Summary: Titus is Paul's no-nonsense blueprint for planting gospel-centered churches in hard places—starting with strong leadership and sound doctrine. Written to a young pastor on the wild island of Crete, this letter shows how truth and character shape a church's credibility in a corrupt culture. In this series, we'll dive into why healthy doctrine isn't just for theologians, and why godly leaders are essential for a church that wants to make a lasting impact. How can we pray for you? tinyurl.com/stmarcusprayersFill out our online connection card: tinyurl.com/stmarcusconnectcardIf you'd like to leave an offering or monetary donation to our ministry please click here: https://tinyurl.com/stmarcusgive
Jesus didn't just warn us about persecution or chaos in the last days—He warned us about deception. False teaching. Slick voices with subtle lies. Not every “Christian” voice speaks for Christ. And in this generation of information overload, discernment isn't optional—it's survival. Our springboard for today's discussion is:“For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.” — Matthew 24:24 (ESV)This verse should shake us. Not with fear—but with urgency.Jesus said even the elect could be led astray. That means this isn't about how smart you are or how long you've been saved. It's about how anchored you are in truth.False teaching doesn't come with a warning label. It comes with charisma, good lighting, and sometimes a massive following. It sounds almost right. But “almost” won't cut it.The enemy doesn't attack with obvious lies. He twists Scripture, distorts grace, minimizes sin, and packages everything in feel-good motivation. Here's the danger: If you don't know the Word, you'll fall for a version of it that isn't real. You'll follow a voice that sounds like Jesus but leads you away from Him.This is why we must stay awake. Test every spirit. Measure every teaching. And don't be afraid to walk away from a popular message if it doesn't line up with the full counsel of God's Word.Don't chase signs and wonders. Chase truth. Discernment isn't being suspicious—it's being Spirit-led.Question of the Day:What's one recent message or teaching you've heard that you now feel led to reexamine through Scripture?Mini Call to Action:Take 10 minutes today to read Acts 17:11. Let it remind you to be a Berean—to search the Scriptures for yourself and test every message you hear.Let's Pray:Father, keep me awake. Teach me to recognize truth from error. Let Your Word be my foundation, and Your Spirit my guide. In Jesus' name, amen.Let's Get To Work! This generation doesn't just need loud voices—it needs clear ones. Let yours be grounded in truth, unwavering in faith, and alert to every counterfeit. My Reasons To Believe is a reader-supported publication. Next Level Soul with Alex Ferrari: A Spirituality & Personal Growth Podcast
On today's episode, we dive deep into the spiritual journey of Aaron Abke, a returning guest who has continually challenged and expanded our understanding of the divine, the scriptures, and the very fabric of our spiritual beliefs. Raised as a third-generation pastor's kid, Aaron's upbringing was steeped in evangelical Christianity, but his quest for truth led him down a path that diverged dramatically from his roots. This divergence was not born out of rebellion, but from a deep and sincere desire to understand the teachings of Jesus, which he felt had been obscured by centuries of dogma and distortion.Aaron's story is one of profound awakening. He began to question the very foundations of his faith during his time at Oral Roberts University, where he studied biblical hermeneutics, exegesis, and early church history.Through rigorous study, Aaron began to see contradictions between the teachings of Paul and the words of Jesus himself. This realization sparked a journey that would take him far beyond the confines of traditional Christianity, into the rich and diverse spiritual traditions of the East. “What if this is true, right? If you're a Christian listening to this, what if this is true, that your Master Jesus had his gospel distorted and changed over time and lost to time, and you've been following mostly a false gospel of his?” Aaron asks, challenging us to consider the possibility that the Jesus we know today may not be the true reflection of the historical figure who walked the earth.Aaron's exploration of Eastern philosophies, particularly Hinduism and Buddhism, opened his eyes to the universal truths that transcend religious boundaries. He found striking similarities between the teachings of Jesus and those of other spiritual masters, leading him to a deeper understanding of Jesus as an enlightened being, rather than merely the figurehead of a specific religion. “Jesus was an enlightened avatar, like so many of the other ones that have graced our planet,” Aaron explains. This realization led him to see the common threads that run through all major spiritual traditions—a truth that is universal and unchanging, despite the cultural and historical differences that shape how it is expressed. In this episode, Aaron delves into the concept of hell, a topic that has been used for centuries as a means of control and fear within religious institutions. He explains how the original Hebrew and Greek texts have been mistranslated, leading to the widespread belief in a literal hell as a place of eternal torment. “The word that Jesus used in every single reference was the word Gehenna, which was like the city garbage dump of the day,” Aaron clarifies. He challenges us to reconsider what we've been taught and to explore the true meanings behind these ancient texts. Aaron's insights reveal a Jesus who was more concerned with spiritual enlightenment and liberation than with enforcing rigid doctrines or instilling fear.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/next-level-soul-podcast-with-alex-ferrari--4858435/support.
Colossians 2:6-14, 16a, 18-19 - Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him the whole fullness of Deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in Him, who is the Head of all rule and authority. In Him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, having been buried with Him in Baptism, in which you were also raised with Him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised Him from the dead. And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This He set aside, nailing it to the cross. … Therefore … Let no one disqualify you, insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, going on in detail about visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind, and not holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body … grows with a growth that is from God.

In a world full of shifting opinions and false teachings, how do we stay grounded? In 2 Peter 1:12-21, Peter reminds us of the unshakeable foundation of God’s word and the power of firsthand testimony. This message calls us to stand firm in the truth of Scripture and hold fast to the light that shines in the darkness. Don’t miss this encouraging and timely reminder of the reliability of God’s promises and the hope we have in Christ.
The Internet is full of different teachers and various doctrines. So, how do we discern false teachers from true, and good doctrine from bad?

As long as we sincerely love God, does it really matter if we have wrong doctrine? Pastor John shows what's at stake in our knowledge of God and his ways.

Many of us have heard of New Age, but not as many Christians have heard about New Thought. This is a FALSE TEACHING running rampant in the global church, and it's about time we bring this spiritual deception to light. My friend Melissa is joining me in this 2 Part episode to speak on this issue truthfully and lovingly. I pray you don't feel condemned by this, but that you feel called into deeper love and intimacy with God through proper theology!
