McKell Sanderson is a Risk Management and Loss Control Professional in the insurance industry and is currently working on publishing articles in pursuit of his PhD. McKell talks with Dr. Martin about his well-researched thoughts on existing risk management and safety theories. Having worked together previously as PhD student (McKell) and PhD Chairperson (Linda), the conversation centers around pointing out what is broken in many of the past and current safety management system concepts/theories. Are you looking for some ideas about safety and risk that may cause you to take a step back and re-evaluate foundational "principles" and the farcical nature of theories made out to be "silver bullet" solutions? Mary and Erin respond to the new documentary film “15 Minutes of Shame” from Executive Producer Monica Lewinsky and Director Max Joseph. We watched this excellent new 90-minute film (now streaming on HBO Max) and discuss some of the issues brought to light including public shaming, how shame affects people, call-out vs calling-in with love, and how to heal shame through... forgiveness. Here's the poem Mary shares: “He drew a circle that shut me out - Heretic, rebel, a thing to flout. But love and I had the wit to win: We drew a circle and took him in!” ― Edwin Markham, "Outwitted" Mary Hayes Grieco is a forgiveness coach and the author of Unconditional Forgiveness, A Simple and Proven Method to Forgive Everyone and Everything, published by Simon and Schuster. THE WEEK OF TRINITY XVII - THURSDAYLESSON: 1 PETER 4:7‒10“Which of you, having an ass or an ox that has fallen into a well, will not immediately pull him out on a Sabbath day?” Luke 14:5He means to say here, “You fools! Are you not quite mad and foolish? You do this for an ox or an ass, worth perhaps a few florins; much more should you be prepared to do it for your neighbor when he has need of your help, regardless of whether it happens to be a Sabbath day.” For the Sabbath, as He points out elsewhere, was made for man and not man for the Sabbath. Hence, the Son of Man is lord also of the Sabbath (Mark 2:27‒28).Laws like the Sabbath laws received great emphasis among the Jews; their kings also laid great stress on them. They had to be strictly kept. When the prophets appeared and tried to interpret the Law in accordance with love, insisting that this is also how Moses meant the Law to be understood, there were false prophets at the royal courts who stuck fast to the text, claiming, “There it stands written; it is God's Word, and it dare not be interpreted otherwise.” No matter how loudly the prophets insisted on the correct understanding, they encountered nothing but deafened ears. Not only this, but the kings, poor blind men that they were, started up and killed one prophet after the other.Ecclesiastical authorities follow much the same procedure even today. If one tells such people that we are not obliged to obey all their laws but only those slanted towards love, they immediately cry out, “Heretic, heretic!” And if they can do so, they put such a heretic to death, as they have already done quite extensively.SL 11:1680 (15‒16)AE 79:154‒161PRAYER: Lord God, heavenly Father, You have shown us extensively in Your Word, but more especially in Your Gospel of salvation, that with You love is always everything. Implant Your love in our hearts that we may live by it in our lives, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

In this podcast, Arshia Malik talks about Heretic Traditions in Islam — Why they are vital for dissent today. With the rise of the Taliban in Afghanistan and Islamism in general it is very important that the world starts to pay attention to heretic traditions in Islam, practiced in the early centuries of the faith, and how people are trying to rekindle those traditions in the Islamic discourse. In this episode, I have the honor of interviewing the Reverend Mark Townsend. He is the author of several books including “Jesus through Pagan Eyes,” and “Diary of a Heretic.” Mark was ordained in The Church of England in 1996. However, in July 2010 he decided to resign his Anglican orders and move over to an Independent Sacramental Church. It was a huge decision for Mark, but he feels more able to be a good friend of the Church of England on the outside than an unhappy Cleric within. Mark has been an Independent Priest since June 2011. His ‘Parish' has no geographical boundaries, leaving him free to offer his services and ceremonies to all. As an Independent Priest and member of the Progressive Christian Alliance (PCA), Mark is able to express his open vision of Christian Priesthood in a fully sacramental way. Mark is also a professional Celebrant and a member of the Association of Independent Celebrants. One of the greatest blessings of the last few years is Mark's discovery of the earth-based path of Druidry, which he sees as totally compatible with Christianity. Most modern Druids see their path not so much as a religion but more as a philosophy, which means that there are many who follow the Druid ways and yet remain Christian, Jewish, Buddhist or even Atheist. As a Christian member of The Order of Bards, Ovates and Druids (OBOD) he weaves many of the beautiful customs and rituals of this essentially British nature tradition into his ceremonies and services. In doing so he walks in the footsteps of saints like Francis of Assisi who was a deeply earth based pilgrim and who sang canticles to brother sun, sister moon and mother earth. Today's episode is coming at you all the way from POLAND! Jan joins us to talk about his conversion story and starting his YouTube channel, Mormonolog. Jan is a theologian, becoming passionate about religion when he was quite young. While he learned about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a teen, he didn't begin his true relationship with the religion until his second year of his theology studies. You HAVE to hear his story, it's fascinating and not one you want to miss! Jan says, "...If our faith is identical for each person (each Church member), it is no longer faith, it is no longer authentic – it has nothing to do with religion. It becomes an empty ideology. A religion that requires its followers to think and behave and feel about things in the very same way – is not a religion, but a totalitarian regime. The 'God' of such religion is not a Parent but an egotistic dictator, who is unable to care for those he called his children. And for me the Lord's Church is different in this respect. It appreciates its members for what they already are. In the Church we are not a commodity – we are an asset. The Lord wants us to know it!"

After 665 episodes, we are here - The Big One! To celebrate we got "the band back together" and tapped former co hort Roch to co host. We cracked open some bevies and reminisced about some of our fave memories. We go over some unique interview locales and the times we got the rock star treatment. This week, the Nobodies kick off a celebratory summer of sequels or RANTquels. The first film in this new LIMITED series is The Exorcist III. When the Exorcist 2: The Heretic was a monumental disappointment, the studio went back to the well and created a direct sequel to the first film, that ignored entirely the existence of the follow up. In The Exorcist III, Pazuzu is back, but this time may have bonded with the soul of a serial killer, and then possessed father Karras, but is in a mental ward at a hospital, but can also possess other people to do his killing??? It's worth it for Brad Dourif, alone, but this sequel boasts a lot more than that, including one of the greatest jump scares of all time. Find out why this film has such a large cult following, as your hosts break it down, and explain why sometimes sequels are great. Horror Hornshoe, Rants Recommends, and next week's title revealed.

Typically on Snarky Faith, I'm interviewing different authors, advocates, and voices doing great work in the sphere of Christianity and beyond. Today, we're going to flip the script and the interviewer becomes the interviewee as I pass the reigns to my good friend Dr. Justin Meier. Justin has known me for years and doesn't pull punches, so I thought he'd be an excellent candidate to skewer me and ask the hard questions. In this episode of Snarky Faith, Justin will ask me anything he wants. He has not given me the questions ahead of time and I've given him full latitude with nothing off-limits. What will he ask? What will I say? Who is Stuart Delony? What makes him tick? Why is he so snarky? Does he know people think he's an asshole? So many questions and more will be answered on Snarky Faith this week. It's bound to be a fun and entertaining dialogue about faith, growth, deconstruction, hope, and a whole lot more. If you've ever wanted to know more about your Snarky Faith host, this should be a fun conversation. Enjoy! *If there are still lingering questions after the interview, just email: email@example.com with your questions, and I'll answer them on the air soon. Come along for the ride as we skewer through life, culture, and spirituality in the face of a changing world. www.SnarkyFaith.com
