We explore how God established the ministry of deacons to meet practical needs, support spiritual leadership, and protect the unity of the church. In a moment of tension and growth, the early church responded by calling faithful servants to step forward. The result was a strengthened fellowship and a Gospel that continued to spread with power. As our church ordains and commissions deacons, this sermon reminds us that healthy churches are built on humble service, shared ministry, and a commitment to unity for the glory of God.

We live in a difficult day. The moral decline of our nation is more rapid than ever. The sacred nature of marriage is collapsing. The dignity of man as made in the image of God is under attack. Life is no longer sacred. Truth has eroded into relativism. Our world is filled with self-indulgence and lies, and yet, God has seen fit in His sovereignty to give us the PRIVILEGE of serving Him at this time in this generation. What do Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, Abed-nego, Nehemiah, Esther, Zerubbabel, Mordecai, and Jeremiah all have in common? They were sacrificially loyal and faithful during a time of exile. They were faithful in the midst of a dark, evil and pagan day. Make no mistake, days such as ours are the days when heroes are born. We are the Lord’s sling and spear. No matter how tough the times may get, we will remain faithful holding out the Word of truth and the light of the gospel because we know that Jesus wins. Never underestimate the power of showing up. Each week, as we gather for worship, we make a bold statement to the world. As we clog up the streets, fill the parking lot, and run shuttles, we let our community know that there is still a group of people at the corner of 87th and Lackman who believes that God is good, heaven and hell are real, Jesus saves, and the Bible is true. Make plans to worship with us. This weekend is special. As part of our worship, on Sunday morning, we will ordain five men to the deacon ministry, and on Sunday night at 5 pm, we will ordain two men to pastoral ministry. These moments are mission critical, and I pray that you will join us. — Pastor Chad
