Are You Being Built Up—or Just Impressed? Discussion Questions for 2 Corinthians 10-11: What are some "earthly weapons" people rely on today, and how do they differ from the spiritual weapons Paul describes? How do we practically "take every thought captive"? What does that look like in a day-to-day mental battle? When have you seen someone use their leadership position to build others up rather than tear them down? Why do we often fall into the trap of comparing ourselves to others in life (or ministry), and what exactly can shift our focus back to God's unique calling for us? What does it mean to be "betrothed to Christ"? How does that shape our daily choices and loyalties? In what ways do "false apostles" or modern spiritual distractions pull believers away from the simplicity of Christ today? How can we discern the difference between charisma that may draw larger crowds and genuine Christ-centered power in teaching today?

Did you know that the concept of spiritual covering originated from the "Shepherding Movement" in the 1970s? Many prideful leaders are pounding ungodly doctrine down the throats of many wounded Christians ... manipulating and trying to gain control over souls, which is a form of witchcraft. This pattern is still being witnessed in various churches and on social media as a worldly recognition; often involving occult impartations and the glorification of self! A spiritual covering is NOT required for accountability. Let's be clear: You're covering and ultimate authority belongs to God, NOT man! Be wary of leaders who twist Scripture and prioritize submission to themselves over God. There are dangers of occult traditions and rituals that glorify self and place humans as divine authority, my friends! Spiritual coverings are a SCAM: You're covering comes from our Creator, not His creation! In early September, worshippers gathering for dawn prayers at several locations across Paris discovered a gruesome and spiteful scene – bloodied pigs' heads discarded on the doorsteps of their mosques. A deeply offensive act, Muslims are forbidden from eating pork and consider pigs to be unclean.Soon after, a farmer in Normandy in northern France, who had seen news reports of the dead animal heads appearing around the city, contacted police to say two people driving a vehicle with Serbian number plates had purchased ten pigs heads from his farm.Further investigations by French authorities found the pigs heads had been placed outside the mosques by foreign nationals with the “clear intention of causing unrest within the nation”.This provocative stunt was just one of a range of bizarre and potentially lethal incidents over recent months that have been linked to a Russian campaign to inflame divisions and spread fear across Europe. Other incidents tracked back to Russian intelligence include the burning of a Warsaw shopping centre and a warehouse in London; exploding parcels in Leipzig and Birmingham and the recent disruption of airports with drones and smuggler balloons in Norway, Denmark and Lithuania.Who is carrying out this wide array of sabotage-style stunts and do the criminals responsible even know they're being hired by Russian officials? What is Russia's long-term goal in fostering instability and discord across Europe? And how is Russia targeting Ireland as part of this strategy?Today, on In The News, how Russia's hybrid war is sowing chaos across Europe.Irish Times Europe correspondent Naomi O'Leary discusses Moscow's campaign of sabotage and espionage, which has steadily intensified since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022.Presented by Sorcha Pollak. You may have read The Game of Our Lives: The Meaning and Making of English Football or The Ball Is Round: A Global History of Football.David is a sociologist, has a part time academic home in the US as well, at Pitzer college in LA, and this one, Injury Time: Football in a State of Emergency, is a book for the moment. The thesis is simple: a lot of the spaces for communicalism have been devolved in neoliberal Great Britain. But football is the dominant cultural form in modern Britain, not only a reflection or mirror, but the “central metaphorical space” in which the country still speaks with itself. It is in the game, he believes, that English people clearly see themselves. The good and the bad. And the potential for the good, and the bad. Part 2 will come out in 2 weeksLINK: Injury Time, book pageNEW: send me a text message! 4. Post-Pandemic Lessons and Policy Interventions Nicholas Eberstadt Book: Men Without Work (Post-Pandemic Edition) Eberstadt addresses the post-pandemic landscape, noting the problem has worsened and shows warning signs of spreading to prime-age women and older cohorts. The China shock (China entering the WTO) previously disrupted US manufacturing. Pandemic-era government transfers were unique in that US disposable income rose, generating over $2.5 trillion in excess savings that facilitated a "delayed return to work." Policy solutions include adopting a "work first" principle for social welfare programs and improving vocational skills training to reduce disincentives. Eberstadt stresses the need to gather statistics on the vast ex-felon population (one in seven adult men has a felony conviction) to enable evidence-based policies for societal reentry. Gaming the disability system often involves claims that are difficult to falsify, such as psychological or musculoskeletal pain. 1939 NYSE

Dolly Parton BioSnap a weekly updated Biography.Dolly Parton has been the center of media and fan attention these past few days as speculation and concern about her health reached fever pitch. This week, after a dramatic late-night social media plea from her younger sister Freida, who publicly asked for prayers and claimed Dolly hadn't been feeling her best, tabloids and fans leaped to grim conclusions, with some social media posts falsely suggesting the legend was on her deathbed. Dolly herself responded swiftly with a video message posted Wednesday, humorously declaring “I'm not dying!” She addressed these rumors head-on, telling fans she was busy filming ads for the Grand Ole Opry and assuring everyone that rumors of her decline were much exaggerated. According to CBS News and AOL, Dolly was in upbeat spirits, noting she appreciated the prayers but wanted everyone to know she's simply taking doctor-recommended rest after a period of putting her husband Carl Dean, who passed away earlier this year, and other commitments ahead of her own health. This mini-family drama revealed deeper friction inside the Parton clan, with niece Danielle Parton going public to criticize Freida's social-media outburst and urge fans to trust only direct updates from Dolly or official spokespeople. According to IBTimes, insiders say the stress from family drama and public speculation has left Dolly “rattled,” but that she's weathering the storm with her trademark toughness and faith.Professionally, Dolly made headlines with her major business announcement: she's launching the SongTeller Hotel in Nashville—a 245-room, music-filled boutique retreat opening spring 2026. This reported first by Parade, will celebrate her music and storytelling legacy throughout its design, entertainment venues, and culinary offerings. Fans and industry watchers quickly hailed it as a significant contribution to Nashville's cultural and hospitality scene.Although she's postponed her highly anticipated Las Vegas residency and missed the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award at this year's Governors Awards due to health reasons, she has assured everyone “God hasn't said anything about stopping yet” and has no plans to retire. This sentiment echoed in a recent interview with Reba McEntire in People magazine—both icons agreed they'd only slow down, not quit, their life's work of entertaining.Meanwhile, her musical Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol is about to embark on a national tour, with stops in over 20 cities through the holiday season. According to regional press releases, the production promises Dolly's signature warmth and songwriting brilliance, reimagining Dickens' classic for a festive American stage. Social media has been abuzz with supportive messages, with fans sharing excitement about new ventures and outpourings of goodwill backing her recovery and ongoing projects. The recurring headlines have been: Dolly Parton launches SongTeller Hotel, Dolly Parton says “I'm not dying” after family prayer post sparks rumors, Smoky Mountain Christmas Carol National Tour announced, and Dolly Parton delays Las Vegas shows due to health. While some celebrity rumor mills continue to churn, the reliable story is that Dolly, though compelled to slow her pace, continues to shape country and pop culture through business, music, and her indomitable spirit.Get the best deals https://amzn.to/3ODvOtaThis content was created in partnership and with the help of Artificial Intelligence AI

Productivity in public services has never been more important. Most services are struggling to return to pre-pandemic performance levels, and the new Labour government has indicated that spending will remain tight. Improvements in performance will likely come from frontline workers finding new, innovative ways of delivering services.   So what can be done to improve productivity? By highlighting outstanding examples of innovation across public services, Productivity Pitches, a series of events hosted by the IfG, aims to share and support ways to improve performance levels. This event was the eighth in the series and focused on innovation across public services. Each speaker had 10 minutes to present their innovation, followed by 10 minutes of audience questions. The chair and a guest from The Productivity Institute – which kindly supported this event series – brought together the common themes from the pitches and discussed the lessons for improving productivity. The speakers for this edition of Productivity Pitches were: Aoife O'Higgins, Director of Evidence at Foundations, the What Works Centre for children and families explained how their work showing the efficacy of Family Group Conferencing (FGC) has led to the government legislating in the Children, Wellbeing and Schools Bill to mandate that councils offer parents a Family Group Decision Making meeting before referring a child to social services. This substantially expanded the use of FGCs. Rhian Gladman and Gary Hughes on LGA's peer challenge programme and transformation support. For its peer challenge programme, the LGA recruits senior local government officers and political leaders to act as peer reviewers. Following a meeting with the council that will be reviewed, a small team of peer reviewers is sent in to speak to people, assess processes and documents, and use their knowledge to provide peer-led feedback. For transformation support, the LGA matches peers with transformation experience with councils that need that specific advice. The event was chaired by Nick Davies, Programme Director at the Institute for Government. Joel Hoskins, Research Assistant at The Productivity Institute joined to the discuss common themes. Productivity Pitches was kindly supported by The Productivity Institute. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

There's growing worries measles is spreading undetected through the country. Three new cases in Manawatu and Nelson were announced yesterday, bringing the total of current infections to four. Health New Zealand hasn't been able to confirm how each became infected - and is warning of a potential national outbreak. Immunisation Advisory Centre medical director, Dr Nikki Turner, says four cases might not sound scary - but measles is highly infectious. "If we don't know it came from travel - then where did it come from? We do not want this bug spreading through our communities." LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

How does verse 12 make this crystal clear? Read verse 15. How do you see “grace spreading to more and more people” in your circles today? Why is gratitude always the result of genuine ministry?
