There are more cell phones in the world than cars, toilets, or people. What if each of those phones could be turned into a Bible? Using their backgrounds in electrical engineering and software development, David and Josiah Palusky have developed technology tools to help Christian workers spread the gospel in places where people are unreached and there is often Christian persecution. David is the founder and president of Renew Outreach. He will share how the ministry began and tools they've developed to help provide unreached people in remote places with access God's Word. Josiah, Director of Strategic Initiatives at Renew, explains efforts to help persecuted Christians around the world share the gospel using emerging technology. They will share stories of camels preaching the gospel using LightStream devices, leading an entire family to meet Christ, how AI disguised a Christian brother's voice, and how Christians in restricted nations and hostile areas can revolutionize communities for Jesus. David also recounts the story of he and his sister hearing Pastor Richard Wurmbrand, the founder of The Voice of the Martyrs, share Richard's story of persecution in Romania at a remote Christian camp in Minnesota. That one sermon deeply impacted the lives of both David and his sister—an impact they still feel almost 40 years later. Today, the Lord has put on their hearts to further the Great Commission among the deaf community, one of the least-reached groups in the world. Using Visual Vernacular to tell the Bible story from creation to Christ, Renew is hearing of new believers and baptisms among the deaf community weekly! The VOM App for your smartphone or tablet will help you pray daily for persecuted Christians in nations like North Korea, Nigeria and Bangladesh, as well as provide free access to e-books, audiobooks, video content and feature films. Are you just going through the motions? Following others without testing the spirit? Don't let unhealed people, even social media gurus and high-level Christian entrepreneurs, sway you from the path God has laid out specifically for you. Discernment is key. The narrow path isn't easy peasy to follow, but always rewarding. Trust the Holy Spirit's guidance above everyone else's clamor. Others mean well, but your journey is NOT their journey ... I've learned this the hard way, my friends. A genuine relationship with Jesus is a continuous healing journey of repentance, persistence, perseverance, and resisting the enemy's attacks. A weak relationship with Jesus will cause everything else to crumble in your life. Many start relying on performance and man-made religions instead of a fruitful relationship with Jesus Christ. Learn the difference and strengthen your walk with Christ! And explore our website, M2D4Podcast.com for all our episodes and authors. The rules for law and order create the boundaries for civil co-existence and, ideally, the backdrops for individuals, families, and companies to grow and thrive. Breaking these rules puts civil order at risk. And while murder is the Big Daddy of crimes, codified ordinances across municipal divisions, counties, states, and countries show the nearly endless ways there are to create mayhem. This season, we put our detective skills to the test. This is Season 8, Anything but Murder. This is Episode 19, cyberbulling is the featured crime. This is Toxic by Robert J. BinneyABOUT CyberbullyingThe first known use of the term “cyberbully” was in 1998 according to Merriam Webster. The formal definition is “the electronic posting of mean spirited messages about a person (such as a student) often done anonymously.” Research and stories are often focused on children and teens, but also happens to adults, just as it did to Hope and Henri. From Very Well Mind comes this list of cyberbully types:• Flaming or roasting – using language including insults, to solicit an emotional response – common in politics• Outing – sharing personal / embarrassing information• Trolling – content including comments with the goal of creating division and chaos• Name calling – says it all• Spreading false rumors• Sending explicit images or messages – without the consent of the victim• Cyber stalking / harassing / physical threats – repeatedly target the same person / peopleCyberbullying causes real injury to victims. From mental health incidents to PTSD to suicidal thoughts, cyberbullies can completely disrupt victims lives. Sadly, there are too many examples of cyberbullying being linked to victim's suicides including Megan Meier (13), Tyrone Unsworth (13) Amanda Todd (15), Choi Jin-Ri aka Sulli (15), Phoebe prince (16), Rehtaeh Parsons (17), Tyler Clementi (19), Hana Kimura (22), Kelly Fraser (26).The US Department of Health and Human Services maintains the website stopbullying.gov with resources and support for victims, kids, parents, and teachers. All states require schools to intercede when cyberbullying is reported. Check out stopbullying.gov to recognize signs of the abuse in children and teens. Support for adults can be found from the Cyberbullying research Center at cyberbullying.orgWhile more attention is given to children and teens, adults are just as vulnerable. The Cyberbullying Research Centers offers resources, references to laws, research, and advice including the importance of documenting everything, utilizing the terms of use for the social media – most prohibit harassment – to intervene, and, importantly (and probably most difficult) do not retaliate. While it might feel good, it could work against you as you pursue legal and other remedies. Legal coverage may come from other laws, such as menacing which was the subject of our Halloween episode, Audubon's Ghost.https://www.stopbullying.gov/cyberbullying/what-is-it

The Assistant Professor of Football: Soccer, Culture, History.
In the US, the big soccer boom is always supposedly around the corner. The most recent example: right now, in the lead-up to next year's World Cup. But that waiting until the beautiful game is the "number 1 sport in the U.S." clouds our view of the game's history in this country. Today, it's that history, in its own right, that we focus on. Brian Bunk focusses on it, especially, in his new book Beyond the Field: How Soccer Built Community in the United States. Brian is a Historian at the University of Massachussetts, Amherst, and has already written THE history of the early game in the US, From Football to Soccer. This is a sequel, a collection of local stories. And there are lot of stories around immigrant identity in there. So I'm reminded of what Oscar Handlin, the dean of American Immigration History, said a few decades ago: “Once I thought to write a history of the immigrants in America. Then I discovered that the immigrants were American history.” Well for today, we could say: Brian Bunk wrote a book about the history of soccer and community in the US. And we find out: soccer and community ARE American history. CONTINUED 2/4 During Emperor Trajan's campaign against the Parthian Empire, a widespread and coordinated "diaspora revolt" erupted in 115–117 AD, beginning in Libya and spreading to Egypt, Cyprus, and Mesopotamia. This was a major challenge, forcing Trajan to divert a legion, as Egypt was the empire's strategic breadbasket. The revolt was spurred by the insulting Jewish tax, the fiscus Judaicus, paid to Jupiter, and the frustrated expectation that the Temple would be rebuilt within 70 years. The Jewish community in Alexandria, possibly the largest Jewish city in the ancient world, was wiped out during the suppression, a disaster for diaspora Judaism. 1614 SACK OF TROY

Show SummaryNatalie Elliott Handy, a caregiver for her husband and mother and co-host of the Confessions of a Reluctant Caregiver Podcast. During our conversation, we share the commitment that she and her sister have to highlighting and supporting military connected caregivers. Provide FeedbackAs a dedicated member of the audience, we would like to hear from you about the show. Please take a few minutes to share your thoughts about the show in this short feedback survey. By doing so, you will be entered to receive a signed copy of one of our host's three books on military and veteran mental health. About Today's GuestNatalie is someone who genuinely loves people. She has a natural passion for meeting new faces, staying closely connected with family, friends, and colleagues, and, most of all, helping others. Anyone who knows her will readily say, “Natalie doesn't know a stranger.” It's simply who she has always been.Raised in her family's hardware store, Natalie learned early how to engage customers — and how to count change — by talking to everyone who walked through the door. At church, she was the first to volunteer to sing, recite Bible verses in “big church,” and attend every youth activity, especially lock-ins. In school, her teachers often placed her in the front row to help minimize “distractions,” because she was, without a doubt, a social butterfly. Those gifts — her ability to connect, her quick wit, and her desire to support others — naturally led her into leadership roles throughout her career in the mental health field. She married young at 21 and, many years later, again at 39. She often describes her first marriage as a light-hearted “practice run” with someone kind, but not Jason, the partner she shares her life with today. From the outside, Natalie's life looked picture-perfect: a fulfilling job, a loving husband, a close-knit support system, and of course, her beloved dogs. But behind the scenes, she was burning the candle at both ends — working 12-hour days, six days a week, answering every request with, “No problem. Happy to help.”Everything shifted when Jason was diagnosed with cancer in March 2022. In the midst of that crisis, Natalie confronted the truth that she couldn't keep living at that pace. During those darkest moments, she reconnected with her faith and, through that, rediscovered her true self. She learned to acknowledge her imperfections and, more importantly, to love herself fully — flaws and all.Today, Natalie has reordered her life with clear priorities: God, herself, Jason, family and friends, and then work. She says “no” far more often, seeks silver linings in difficult moments, and is grateful for the journey that led her to live God's plan instead of her own. She embraces the mantra of being “perfectly imperfect.”Her mission is simple: to share stories and experiences that inspire, uplift, and — whenever possible — spark a little laughter. She strives to encourage others to be true to themselves while supporting the people they love. And along the way, she fully intends to keep making new friends.Links Mentioned During the EpisodeConfessions of a Reluctant Caregiver Website2024 Heroes Caring for Heroes series2023 Heroes Caring for Heroes seriesPsychArmor Resource of the WeekThis week's PsychArmor Resource of the Week is the PsychArmor course course Understanding the VA for Caregivers. It's the BMJ's annual climate issue - and in this episode, we'll be hearing about more ways in which climate mitigation is good for health. Firstly, climate change is fuelling conflict, and exacerbating the impact it has on fragile healthcare systems. Andy Haines, from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and Barbora Sedova, from Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, discuss how climate and conflict intersect, and what they think needs to be done to combat it. “Car spreading”, the recent tendency for cars to become bigger and heavier is not only harming the climate, but it's also harming pedestrians. Anthony Laverty, associate professor of public health at Imperial College London, and trauma surgeon Cleo Kenington explain why SUVs are more lethal in accidents, and why France is bucking the trend in sales. Finally, Jocalyn Clark, the BMJ's international editor joins us to talk about women's health innovation and why tech bros aren't the people to be leading it. I keep thinking about the interaction I had with a guy who angrily told me that "AI minds are actually minds" and relationships with them "can absolutely be real relationships," saying that I "need to start accepting that this is a new class of being and they are intelligent and do have thoughts of their own." Banter ends at 13:40 Social media was supposed to advance freedom of speech by increasing access to the marketplace of ideas. Instead, the government and Big Tech teamed up to suppress and even punish pro-life speech as "dangerous" or "disinformation." Has censorship of pro-life messaging improved under the Trump administration? It's complicated. On this episode of The 40 Days for Life Podcast, we take a look at the social media platforms silencing pro-life voices--and how they're doing it.

Changing course is never easy, especially if the change requires a complete overhaul at the most basic, fundamental level. Dr. Robin "Buz" Kloot of the University of South Carolina's Arnold School of Public Health and Soil Health Labs talks with Eric, Mary, and Jeff about this paradigm shift among farmers and within the soil science community.Buz explains how the shift in thinking and paradigms occurred. In many cases, people were focused more on the symptoms rather than the cause, for instance, soil loss through erosion or poor water infiltration. Understanding the underlying cause required a whole-system approach. For Buz, an open mind to farmers' stories and experiences, and a beginner's mindset as a scientist were required to truly grasp the dynamic nature of soil. If you are beginning your journey with soil health and cover cropping systems, the featured length Under Cover Farms video, Buz and his team produced, provides a good introduction and uplifts the initial experiences of farmers in South and North Carolina. As always, we encourage you to cooperate with other farmers, graziers, and gardeners for peer-to-peer learning and to follow the four core soil health principles: 1) Keep the soil covered -- Cover crops are our friends and allies; avoid bare fallows;2) Minimize soil disturbance -- Practice no-till or gentle tillage as much as possible in your field or garden;3) Maximize living roots year-round -- to improve biodiversity, soil structure, and life in the soil; and4) Energize with diversity -- through crop rotation, high-quality food, farm enterprises, and livestock integration. The 4 The Soil team recently commissioned a new set of art posters to help people remember the four principles of soil health and celebrate that “We Are 4 the Soil!”. This is PART 2 of a two-part episode. The 1st part aired two weeks ago, and is the most recent on on the Assistant Professor of Football. Please add a like, a comment, a star rating or spread the word by mouth!I was a little starstruck when David Goldblatt showed up on my screen today. His books have done very well for very good reason. You may have read The Game of Our Lives: The Meaning and Making of English Football or The Ball Is Round: A Global History of Football.David is a sociologist, has a part time academic home in the US as well, at Pitzer college in LA, and this one, Injury Time: Football in a State of Emergency, is a book for the moment. The thesis is simple: a lot of the spaces for communicalism have been devolved in neoliberal Great Britain. But football is the dominant cultural form in modern Britain, not only a reflection or mirror, but the “central metaphorical space” in which the country still speaks with itself. It is in the game, he believes, that English people clearly see themselves. The good and the bad. And the potential for the good, and the bad. What if God's Power Shines Most When You Stop Pretending? Discussion Questions for 2 Corinthians 11-13: Why does Paul spend so much time "boasting" about his sufferings and weaknesses in chapter 11? What point is he making? In 2 Corinthians 12:2–4, Paul mentions being "caught up to the third heaven." What does this mean, and what might Paul have experienced or seen there? Why do you think Paul refers to himself in the third person when describing this heavenly vision? What does this tell us about Paul and his purpose in sharing it? What do you think Paul's "thorn in the flesh" might have been? Why do you think God allowed it to remain? Read verse 9. What does it mean for God's grace to be sufficient for you? How can you practically "boast in weakness" so that Christ's power may rest on you? Read verse 10. Reflect on this paradox: "When I am weak, then I am strong." What does this look like in real life? Can you think of a time when God's strength showed most clearly through your weakness? Read 13:5. What is the true test of salvation according to this passage? How does that differ from assessing our works or inspecting our fruit?
