LZ introduces his podcast “You Are Beautiful,” born from pandemic isolation, weight gain, and his Achilles rupture, and welcomes Melissa Etheridge. Etheridge says she learned “mirror work” during chemotherapy for breast cancer 22 years ago, training herself to say “Hello, gorgeous” and define beauty from within. They discuss oneness, choosing one's feelings, and course-correcting negativity through gratitude and staying general rather than focused on life's details. Etheridge describes a major awakening after over-consuming cannabis edibles, later followed by her breast cancer diagnosis, which propelled study of spirituality and plant medicine. She speaks about son Beckett's opioid addiction and death in May 2020, emphasizing, “I cannot get sick enough to make a sick person well.” Etheridge recounts her musical beginnings in Kansas, coming out, early women's-bar circuit, discovery at Pasadena's Vermie's, the “Bring Me Some Water” breakthrough, her bald 2005 Grammy performance during chemo, and writing her new album “Rise,” including “Call You.” They discuss advice for LGBTQ people and parents, and she advises LZ for his upcoming duet with Kelly Clarkson, then sings a snippet of “I Wanna Come Over.”Timestamp Menu: 00:00 Welcome You Are Beautiful01:07 Why This Podcast Exists03:03 Melissa Mirror Work05:01 Oneness Gratitude Reset09:16 Advice For Angry Mornings13:44 Awakening Cancer And Cannabis18:15 Loss And Loving Through Addiction24:51 Leavenworth Roots First Guitar27:10 Coming Out And Early Career29:51 Finding Work in LA30:12 Underground Women's Scene30:48 Label Pressure and Coming Out32:36 Breakthrough Single Origins36:07 Chemo and Grammy Comeback39:38 Awards and Artistic Purpose40:57 Songwriting Process and Inspiration43:18 Rise Album and Personal Loss46:13 Strength, Identity, and Community48:29 Advice for LGBTQ People and Parents52:16 Duet Prep and Stage Confidence55:06 Romance, Stalker Song, and Farewell

Following the release of her latest album, Rise, the Grammy and Oscar-winning rock alum joins Madden for a hopeful, wide-ranging conversation. Sitting across from each other, they traverse how a cancer diagnosis two decades ago completely rewired the way she eats, thinks, and moves through the world — and why 22 years later, she's never felt better. Travel to Historic Locations with History or Drive. The episode revisits July 2, 1863 at Gettysburg's Peach Orchard—one of the battle's deadliest spots—and highlights Anna Etheridge (“Gentle Annie”), a rare woman on the front lines in skirts, armed with pistols, riding a horse with medical supplies, and tending the wounded under fire.Scott and Jenn explain how Etheridge began serving with her husband in the 2nd Michigan as a laundress, shifted into nursing as combat intensified, and stayed with Michigan units even after her husband deserted, remaining with soldiers from early battles through Appomattox. They discuss testimony describing her as “cool and self-possessed,” her injury (shot in the hand) while continuing to aid others, and her recognition with the Kearny Cross (one of only two women to receive it).The episode notes her later Congressional pension, work in Washington, DC, and burial with full military honors at Arlington, and suggests she deserves a Gettysburg monument.00:00 Chaos at Peach Orchard01:28 Show Updates and Reviews02:42 Why Anna Matters05:36 Early Life and Enlistment08:14 Kearny Takes Notice09:54 Anna's role and why Jenn Flew Helicopters in the Navy14:37 Gettysburg Angle Explained16:33 Arlington Legacy18:51 Vivadieres and Soldierhood21:02 Final Reflection

In 1971, 19-year-old Myrtle Anne Etheridge vanished from her Plano apartment complex while doing laundry; barefoot, in the cold, and gone within minutes. Days later, her body was found in a remote drainage area, bound and stabbed, left in a place meant to hide her. Her killer has never been identified.Four years later and a thousand miles away, her cousin, Paula Diane Etheridge, disappeared under eerily similar circumstances. Also last seen doing laundry, Paula was abducted in broad daylight in Okeechobee, Florida. Witnesses later described seeing a violent struggle inside a moving car.Unlike Anne's, Paula's case didn't stay unsolved.Investigators quickly focused on David Ross Delap, a local man with a violent past who moved in the same circles as Paula. After hours of questioning and mounting evidence, Delap led authorities to Paula's body. He was convicted of her murder and sentenced to death not once, but twice. Two women from the same family and the same generation. Both taken while doing something routine. One case solved and one case forgotten by the public. If you have any information about the murder of Myrtle Anne Etheridge, please contact the Plano Police Department Crimes Against Persons Unit at (972) 941-2148.You can support gone cold and listen to the show ad-free at https://patreon.com/gonecoldpodcastFind us at https://www.gonecold.comFor Gone Cold merch, visit https://gonecold.dashery.comFollow gone cold on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, YouTube, and X. One of the great questions we face as Christians in today's world is this: how do we lead young people to embrace biblical truth when the world they live in is obsessed with the "sovereignty of self"? They're swimming in a culture of self-made truth, governed by the unholy trinity of me, myself, and I. Recently, I read a book for teens and young adults that pushes back against these false narratives—and does it with incredible kindness and grace. It's called God-Breathed: Connecting Through Scripture to God, Others, the Natural World, and Yourself. Today, I'm chatting with the author, Rut Etheridge, to talk all about it on this episode of Youth Culture Matters.
A high calcium score, a stack of prescriptions, and the nagging sense that “healthy eating” wasn't working—David Etheridge's story captures what millions feel but rarely decode. When he shifted from chasing calories to controlling insulin, everything changed: he moved from a 12:12 rhythm to a 16:8 fasting window, led meals with protein and natural fats, saved carbs for later on the plate, and watched both cravings and brain fog fade. The scale moved, but the labs told the real story—A1C from 5.8 to 5.1, triglycerides from 285 to 72, and a dramatically improved lipid ratio. We dig into why this works. Intermittent fasting gives insulin time to fall, reigniting fat mobilization and cellular repair. Sequential eating blunts glucose spikes and steadies appetite. And building plates around eggs, meat, dairy, and vegetables respects how satiety actually functions. Along the way we confront the legacy of “low fat” guidance that pushed sugar and seed oils into everyday foods, trained us to graze, and stretched ingredient lists while shrinking satiety. David argues for flipping the pyramid: prioritize protein and real fats, add non-starchy vegetables for fiber and micronutrients, treat sugar as an occasional indulgence, and skip the ultra-processed traps. This isn't anti-medicine; it's pro-data. With medical oversight, David watched his markers improve and discussed next steps with a supportive clinician focused on outcomes, not dogma. Even with a high coronary calcium score, the goal becomes halting progression by lowering inflammation and improving insulin sensitivity. We also touch on how AI can translate cryptic test reports into plain English so patients ask better questions and make calmer choices. If you've tried to white-knuckle your way through snack culture, this conversation offers a clear, humane alternative: fewer eating windows, protein-first plates, simpler ingredients, and measurable wins. If this resonated, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs hope, and leave a review to help more people find the path back to metabolic health.Continue this conversation on SubStack: https://robertlufkinmd.substack.com Get 120 Biomarkers for $99 and CT Calcium scans anywhere in the US. https://www.vitalsvault.com/ Lies I Taught In Medical School : Free sample chapter- https://www.robertlufkinmd.com/lies/ Web: https://robertlufkinmd.com/X: https://x.com/robertlufkinmdYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/robertLufkinmd Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/robertlufkinmd/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/robertlufkinmd/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@robertlufkinThreads: https://www.threads.net/@robertlufkinmdFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/robertlufkinmd Bluesky: ...

Last week, the Baltimore Sun's Jean Marbella reported on a lawsuit filed on behalf of youth in the state's foster care system who had been left in hospital wards with no plan for a return to the community. While the lawsuit focuses on events in the past two years, this has been a problem for far longer than that in Maryland. In 2022, we were joined by Erin Dorrien and Carrie Etheridge to discuss this exact issue of kids getting stuck in the hospital well after anyone thinks they need to be there.Dorrien and Etheridge explained exactly how and why this had become such a challenge in Maryland's child welfare system, and what they were hoping the legislature could do to improve the situation. Today we are re-releasing that interview. Erin Dorrien is an associate principal at Health Management Associates. At the time this interview was recorded, she was vice president of policy for the Maryland Hospital Association.
