There is a deeply unhealthy, unbiblical view of God that treats Him like a cosmic vending machine. It tells us that if we follow the rules, God is obligated to bless us, but if we slip up, He’s waiting to zap us. The truth is, God cannot be manipulated, and His blessings can't be bought with our good behavior."
Jesus heals a blind man starting him on a journey of discovery that will last for eternity. The Pharisees show themselves to be the blind ones, as they were well-versed in their scriptures and their laws but they were far from knowing the God of creation whose heart is full of love and light. As Christ followers we must cling to Jesus rather than become like the Pharisees who valued knowing about God more than walking with God.

Balancing Thought: You will never see everything perfectly. You will always grow in your ability to see. You will always walk by faith and not by sight. Statement: Sometimes sincere people can limit you and block you from experiencing what they have never experienced.
Pastor Greg continues our sermon series, "Follow: The Gospel of John," and with the story of the blind man receiving sight in John 9, he encourages us to humble ourselves before Jesus so that we can also see; to both receive and live out the truth.

In this message, Pastor Derek Holmes looks at Jesus' miraculous healing of the Blind Man at the Pool of Siloam. This man was healed by his faith to obey Christ's commands, and his view of Christ clarified from thinking Jesus was just a man to being the Son of God worthy of His worship. The Pharisees, however, chose to remain blind even though all the evidence of Christ was right in front of them.

Can our sin be the cause of an affliction we can't seem to get freed from? That's a question Jesus answers in John 9. Many people, just like in Jesus' day, saw sickness, affliction, and such trouble as being caused by sin, and the disciples asked Jesus about this with the man born blind. Jesus gives a clear answer for the question, and we also see the tremendous growth and change in a man who went from not knowing much about Jesus, to becoming timid and afraid to stand up for him but finishing with boldness in the face of adversity and a great receiver of the truth Jesus spoke.

Jesus claims that He is the light of the world, but what does that mean? How does that relate to a man who was born without ever being able to see light in the first place? Jesus gives light to both our physical and spiritual realities; if you have ever found yourself asking why things happen, God's Word has an answer for you. Come check out Week 3 of Jesus' Greatest Hits as we take a look at John 9 and Jesus' claims that He is God and that He is the light of the world. As always we'll see you next week, Thursday at 7pm!

We live in a world that seems divided on almost every issue including the Gospel. So how do you speak about Jesus to a divided world. Let's take a look at the account of a man who encounters Jesus and decides to share of his experience in a similarly divided culture. Join us as we continue in our Believe Series on the book of John
Jesus heals the man born blind. The Pharisees reject Jesus because he violates their religious traditions. In so doing, they judge themselves. The man born blind is transformed not just physically, but emotionally as well. He is a new man and comes to belief in Jesus as the Christ. Jesus did not come to bring His judgment upon us but to force us to make a judgment of our own, as to who he is. We judge ourselves by our judgment of Him.

Just as Jesus gave physical sight to the blind man, He offers spiritual sight to us all if we will trust Him as our Savior. Jesus is the light of the world and following Him gives us the light of life. Music by Gold City.
In John's account of the healing of a blind man by Jesus we see how the text proclaims that Jesus is Lord (while Caesar is not) and that Jesus is the revelation of God (YHWH) in the world. The text calls us to a journey of penitence as we approach Easter week.
