Subaru Rally Team USA's head honcho Bill Stokes gives the inside story of how Travis Pastrana's "Family Huckster" Subaru GL with active aero came to be and why it made an appearance at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed (where it placed 5th overall). Bill Stokes has a cool job. In fact, as the Motorsports Manager for Subaru of America, he may have one of the slickest gigs in the automotive industry. A few weeks ago, both Bill, and Ryan Douthit (our guest co-host on this episode), attended the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed and on this episode of the Hemmings Hot Rod BBQ podcast we talk to both about their experience. We also learn what it was like to turn a 1983 Subaru GL wagon into an 860-hp, 5th place overall finisher, with Travis Pastrana behind the wheel. Following a devastating setback, the Subaru Rally Team USA attempts a massive comeback at the Susquehannock Trail Pro Rally. Plus, the Subaru Puma Rallycross Team heads to Germany for more X Games Global Rallycross action.

In this episode, David Higgins and Subaru Rally Team USA are on the west coast for the Oregon Trail Rally, while Bucky Lasek, Dave Mirra, Sverre Isachsen and the Subaru PUMA Rallycross Team are hard at work in Connecticut testing the new cars in preparation for the first overseas event.

David Higgins and Craig Drew of Subaru Rally Team USA may be back-to-back champions, but at the Rally in the 100 Acre Wood, Ken Block has been king. A win here at round two for Higgins would rock the boat and shake things up for the rest of the series. But, an overnight storm in Missouri has dumped snow on the high-speed stages, placing the whole outcome into question. Can the teams keep it on the road in the treacherous conditions? Can Higgins and Drew get their first career win at this event?

Subaru PUMA Rallycross Team driver, Bucky Lasek, visits Vermont to get sideways with Formula D driver Ryan Tuerck on the snow covered forest roads, and drops in at Vermont SportsCar to check out his new rallycross car and show the team his gratitude. Meanwhile the Subaru Rally Team USA is in Missouri testing for the highspeed Rally in the 100 Acre Wood, where Mother Nature throws competitors a curve ball.
